MIKE CAME THE DAY I CALLED (ONE OF THE HOTTEST DAYS OF THE SUMMER). HE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM QUICKLY, REPLACED THE FAULTY PART, AND DISCUSSED THE COMPANY'S CHECK-UP AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT. HE ALSO HAD INFORMATION ON NEW UNITS SO WE COULD BE INFORMED ABOUT ALTERNATIVES WHEN THE CURRENT 17-YEAR-OLD UNIT FINALLY QUITS.

I RECEIVED 5 BIDS FOR THIS FURNACE INSTALLATION. WHILE PHILLIPS WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE, THEY WERE ALSO THE MOST TRUSTWORTHY, AS FAR AS I COULD TELL. (I ESPECIALLY LIKED THEIR PORTFOLIO WITH PHOTOS OF THEIR WORK AND LONG LIST OF REFERENCES ORGANIZED BY ZIP CODE.) THEY GAVE ME ESTIMATES FOR TWO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF PRODUCTS AND PROMISED THERE WOULD BE NO HIDDEN OR ADDED CHARGES. WHEN THE WORK TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED, THEY RETURNED THE NEXT MORNING FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND THEIR CONDUCT IN THE HOUSE AND THEY WERE RESPONSIVE AND APPARENTLY THOROUGH. (DUE TO IT BEING SUMMER NOW, OF COURSE, I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO SEE HOW THE FURNACE ACTUALLY WORKS!)

I WAS EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE WORK AND THE TIME JIM TOOK TO REVIEW MY PARTICULAR SITUATION. THEY WERE PROMPT, COURTEOUS AND VERY PROFESSIONAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. THE PRICE WAS COMPETITIVE.
Description of Work: JIM PHILLIPS SPENT ABOUT AN HOUR DIAGNOSING WHY MY 6 YEAR OLD COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED. HE DID A THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. JIM DETERMINED THAT THE CURRENT COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED BECAUSE OF THE LENGTH OF THE PLUMBING TO THE AIR COIL. HE RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION OF A SOLENOID VALVE TO PROTECT THE NEW COMPRESSOR. THE WORK WAS SCHEDULED AND THE CREW ARRIVED ON TIME AND DRAINED THE FREON FROM THE SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PRETTY COLD. THE OLD COMPRESSOR WAS REMOVED AND THE NEW COMPRESSOR WAS INSTALLED. INSTEAD OF INSTALLING THE SOLENOID, A DEVICE CALLED AN ACCUMULATOR WAS INSTALLED AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE COMPRESSOR. JIM SAID THIS WAS A MORE EXPENSIVE SOLUTION BUT DID NOT CHARGE FOR IT. PHILLIPS HAD TO COME BACK ON A WARMER DAY TO CHARGE THE SYSTEM. THEY ALSO OFFERED FINANCING.

AFTER SPEAKING TO SEVERAL HEATING COMPANIES FOR BOILER REPLACEMENT I SETTLED ON PHILLIPS AND I WASN'T DISAPPOINTED. BOB CALCULATED THE HEAT LOAD FOR MY HOUSE AND GAVE A STRAIGHTFORWARD RECOMMENDATION AND ESTIMATE- NOT A SALES PITCH. THEIR OFFER WAS REASONABLE AND THE WORK WAS DONE WELL AND EFFICIENTLY. THERE WAS A FOLLOW UP VISIT TO TAKE CARE OF A VERY MINOR LEAK AND THAT WAS DONE WELL. THIS WAS A VERY BUSY TIME FOR FURNACE REPLACEMENT, AND I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE PROMPTNESS AND LEVEL OF SERVICE I GOT FROM PHILLIPS.

I GAVE PHILLIPS A 'B' FOR QUALITY BECAUSE I AM REALLY NOT QUALIFIED TO JUDGE THEIR WORK, BUT I WAS PLEASED WITH WHAT THEY DID. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY REPAIR WORK DONE, JUST A YEARLY CHECKUP OF BOTH THE BOILER AND A/C. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE NEEDING TO HAVE THEIR BOILER & A/C CHECKED UP.
Description of Work: PHILLIPS CAME AND CHECKED BOILER AND MY A/C. THEIR PRICE WAS REASONABLE ($60 EACH FOR THE BOILER AND A/C) AND I THEN ENROLLED IN A SPECIAL $100 PLAN FOR THE BOILER, SO THEY COULD COME IN EMERGENCIES AND FIX MY BOILER, WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY TO HAVE THEM MAKE A HOUSE VISIT. DON'T KNOW IF THIS PLAN WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE FUTURE, BUT I FIGURED IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR OUR FIRST YEAR IN OUR NEW HOUSE. ANYWAY, THE GUY SEEMED KNOWLEDGEABLE. I HAVE AN OLDER BOILER (PROBABLY ABOUT 40 YEARS OLD), AND THE SERVICEMAN WAS NICE IN ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.
