They were supposed to come today at 10am, but then when I called them at 10am he said that he meant 10 or after. He then proceeded to tell me that I was 4th on the list when he had previously told me I was 2nd on the list. I decided to cancel the appointment. I just wish he would have called before 10am and let me know that he would not be here at 10, rather he would be a little bit after. I have used them before and not had any problems, but I know they are busy I just need to get this taken care of.
Description of Work: They were going to put in a spiget and knobs in the shower today (5/9/12).

We had a leak that went down through the garage wall and ceiling. My car looked like it was going through the car wash. We called Pawlak Plumbing and they came that day. I was concerned about any water getting into electrical units. Justin recommended that we turn off the power to the garage and section of the basement to let the wet areas get dry. They had to make a hole in the garage ceiling and upstairs where the leaky pipe originated. There was a tiny hole in the pipe. They repaired it. We were so grateful that they came out almost immediately to solve the problem.
Description of Work: Leaking pipe was repaired.

They are one of the most economical plumbers in the area and they have the best quality of work. I have used them numerous times for stack piping, removing old pipes, installing new toilets, garbage disposal and other plumbing things. They charge about $100 an hour for 2 people and $65 an hour for one.
Description of Work: They didn't end up finding the root cause of the problem this time.

Received a call back within two hours of my initial inquiry on a Friday. Set an appointment for the following Monday. Mr. Pawlak asked all the right questions and offered advice on the phone, at which point we decided on exactly what was needed. An employee, Justin, arrived on time, worked quickly, was very professional, and addressed the problem as described. All-around good experience.

Everything went very well overall. Don and Justin arrived exactly on time, and worked for six hours. They had to work in a terribly outdated and poorly maintained house with imperfect conditions. They worked swiftly and efficiently, and were very kind. Mr. Pawlak made sure anything that I needed for the updates were on the truck and ready to go. I appreciated that he was low pressure and didn't try to talk me into extras that I didn't really need, like a kitchen sink garbage disposal. I was attempting to fix lingering/problematic issues with a very neglected house, not do any fancy remodeling. So I feel VERY satisfied with Don and Justin's work, and thankful that Mr. Pawlak is reliable and "no nonsense" in his relations with customers. Thank you Pawlak Plumbling for bringing our plumbing into the 21st century !!!
Description of Work: Eight (probably) pretty routine repair/replacements. Replaced continually leaking hose behind basement washing machine. Installed a standpipe for washing machine drainage. Busted up crumbling stationary tubs (from the 1950s) and replaced with a new fiberglass one with a new faucet as well. Installed new basement bathroom sink faucet that I had purchased. Installed a new basement bathroom toilet. Replaced leaking pipes in basement, that connected to outside porch faucet. Properly vented clothes dryer to comply with Columbia Gas' "Red Tag" citing. Installed new kitchen sink faucet and sprayer, and replaced plumbing underneath.

Things went w/o a hitch. Called up on the 20th, made an appointment for the 23rd. Two guys showed up on time, worked efficiently & completed work in about 2 hrs. They had to drill the dryer vent into an exterior wall. They had to go through the ceiling in my basement. They also hooked up the washer & dryer & made sure they were level & working properly before leaving. Only complaint would be that they talked about their busy day, & it felt like they were rushing to get my job done to move on to the next. Just made me wonder if they would rush a job (sacrificing quality for quantity). That being said, it wasn't a big deal because they did the job that was expected, & they cleaned up after they were done. I'd have no hesitation in calling them again for any general plumbing fixes.
Description of Work: Installed dryer vent (including drilling in wall), install gas dryer & washing machine w/ hoses.

Response from PAWLAK PLUMBING INC
Thank You for your positive report! The plumbers may have been a bit rushed due to the Christmas holiday so near. We generally have an increase of customers with emergencies before all holidays. So glad you are satisfied. Thank You for your business. Tim Pawlak
The two plumbers from Pawlak diagnosed the problem quickly and accurately. Initially, they did not think they could make the repair same day but upon calling their boss (Tim Pawlak) - he did tell them to stay and complete the repair as the next several weeks were so booked up it would be tough to get it done quickly otherwise. I was so pleased that they were able to stay and make the repair. They completely took apart the original, totally improper installation (and they showed it to me - I'm no expert - but know enough to see that the original installation was completely wrong.) They replaced the broken pipe and correctly tied it into the main drainage line (that runs underneath our yard and out to the street.) This required a good amount of muddy digging. They installed a new clean-out so that any future repairs or clogs (the gutters and downspouts are tied into this same underground drainage line) can be more easily dealt with. They made sure the storm water line was clear all the way to the street - and also diagnosed possible root intrusion in the line mid-way down the yard. Right now the line is clear - but they did say a partial blockage, probably a maple root, could cause a problem in the future but is NOT a problem now. They marked the spot in my yard where they encountered the partial blockage so that it can be easily found in the future if need be. They also dug out mud that had run down due to the leak and lodged underneath my dryer vent (that points down) - this was a big help and something my husband would have needed to do if they hadn't taken care of it - I really appreciated this extra step that they took! I feel the price was fair for all of the work that they did - I really appreciated the same day repair - and the fact that they came so quickly (I left a message Saturday, got a call back Monday, and they came out on Tuesday.) Good job Pawlak Plumbing - we'll definitely call you again!
Description of Work: Two plumbers came out to assess a water leak that had sprung up directly adjacent to our home - the cause turned out to be a hole in our sump pump discharge pipe; and shoddy installation of the sump pump discharge pipe by the water proofing company that installed it 7 years ago. Was basically "rigged" but never tied into the main storm water drainage line properly - so was a leak waiting to happen (and finally it did - with water literally fountaining out of the ground and cascading down our front steps. Our sump pump discharges frequently even when it's not raining - so this was a BIG problem.)

Tim came out and gave me an estimate which was very reasonable. It was a good price, and much lower than one of the other estimates I got (which seemed very unreasonably high, and Tim said so). I scheduled the work for about 1.5 weeks after the estimate, and Tim called the day before to re-confirm. They showed up on the scheduled day, did the work quickly and well, and were very courteous and professional. A great experience.

Pawlak was called as a result of the analyses of plumbers on Angie's List. Pawlak arrived at our house to conduct the estimate on time. They needed approximately 30 minutes to examine the issues we wanted resolved. Their honesty and prefessionalism was very much appreciated. For two unrelated items, Pawlak convinced us to make no changes because the risk (of unknown challenges) and cost of the repairs would have out-weighed the benefits. For the other items (replacing the drain and overflow in a bathroom bathtub, replacing the spigot and valves for the same tub, replacing tiles in the bathtub area to accomodate the new valve, repair the ceiling in the kitchen that occured when the bathtub leak occured, and installing an exerior clothes dryer vent in the basement wall), they offered a reasonable and expected estimate. They described the work involved and the amount of time needed (less than one day). They departed with an estimate and repair date, and stated they would call us to confirm the date and time within 48 hours of the estimated repair date. As promised, Pawlak called 2 days before the estimated repair date to confirm the date and time. For the repair, again, they arrived on time (remarkable for the Pittsburgh area). Before entering the house, the plumbers donned disposable booties to avoid soiling our floors or rugs. They laid out a work tarp and began working on the bathtub repair and basement dryer simultaneously. Within 2-2.5 hours, the plumbers were finished with the bathtub and dryer work. Befoer they were finished though, the tiler arrived to begin the tile replaement and ceiling repairs. At their departure, the plumbers stated they needed to finish the installation of the spigot, valves, and shower head on the next day in order to allow drying time of the caulking and tiles. The tiler needed about 2 hours to complete his work. On the next day, both the plumbers and tiler returned at their estimated times to finish their respective work. The tiler needed to grout and seal the bathtub tiles and perform additional finishing on the kitchen ceiling. In our opinion, the outstanding qulatities of both plumbers and tiler were the following: they arrived on time when they stated, they treated our house as if it was their own, and they accomplished their work in one day. The later was very important to us since the lost use of a bathroom (in a family of 3 women) was an important concern.
Description of Work: A leak appeared in the kitchen, below the upstairs bathtub, about 3 years ago. It resolved when I replaced and repaired the tiles and regrouted. Recently, a fresh leak occured. The backing to the bathtub was wet from the bathtub valves and I noticed a leak from the bathtub overflow. We decided to call a plumber to perform the following: replacement of the drain and overflow in the bathtub, replacement of the out-dated spigot and valves for the same tub, replacement of the tiles in the bathtub area to accomodate the new valve, repairing the ceiling in the kitchen that resulted from the bathtub leaks, and installing an exterior clothes dryer vent in the basement wall.

I contacted Pawlek on Friday and requested help! If it were an emergency, they could have arranged for a week end visit, but I said Monday would be fine! I arranged for a visit Monday and true to the company's word was notified that some one would be out! Unfortunately I did not get the technicians name, but he was professional in every way and even wore covers on his shoes to keep our carpet from soil! The diagnosis was very quick that the wax ring had crushed and allowed the toilet leaked! After diagnosing this problem, the work was quickly accomplished and instead of one wax ring installed two and reinstalled the bolts holding the toilet down! Because of the laminated floor now having water under it, he suggested I use our dehumidifier to stop further damage and dry the moisture that collected under the floor! Again a great job and a great suggestion!!!
Description of Work: Discovered in the week before a leak of some kind coming from the toilet! I tried to find the solution myself, but realizing that whatever the problem was it was above me! My wife of course decided the I should call and the best plumber I know and that is Pawlak Plumbing and Heating!!

In general, Pawlak Plumbing (PP) performed the work as promised and within reasonable time frame. What I especially valued was their help in choosing and obtaining major elements, such as bath tubs, fixtures and water closets. The problems first started with poor quality of work done by a subcontractor. It was a general contractor in charge of framing, dry wall installation, tiling and painting. In the first bathroom, wall tiles around vanity were badly crooked, so we had to buy another batch of tiles and have them installed again. There were issues with wall painting as well, since paint started bubbling and peeling off around the window area short time after the job completion. Another issue was rather poor water flow on the newly installed water closet. PP's plumber could not resolve that after two visits, so another plumber came in and found that the drain was almost completely clogged with drain seal material - reinstalling the water closet took care of that problem. Ultimately, we were able to negotiate with the company a satisfactory resolution to these issues. Resolving these was rather arduous process, in which Mr.Pawlak, company owner, was consistently telling us to take our disputes to his subcontractor (i.e. “not my problem…” type of response). His unwillingness to take full responsibility for the work contracted to his company was rather offensive and unprofessional. Unfortunately, that was not the end of our problems. About six months after the work completion, we noticed a water leak in the hallway right below the second bathroom. We called PP, and their plumber came out to inspect, ripped open the ceiling, and after two visits, still could not come up with the source of the leak. Apparently, every time when the shower was in use, after a 2-3 min period, a steady stream of water would be coming from a corner of the subfloor. We actually saw about 2in high watermark around the joists in the ceiling space. In the third visit from a PP plumber, he concluded that cracked grout in shower was the culprit. Subsequently, Mr.Pawlak offered a remedy: re-grouting the tiles in the shower tub. We were rather suspicious about that finding – it’s impossible that hair-thin grout cracks could allow for that much water to come through. Besides, wasn’t the rubber liner supposed to collect that? To confirm, we asked no less than THREE other reputable local plumbing companies to perform diagnostic work and supply the findings in writing. The consensus was that there is a problem with the shower tub liner which was not catching all the drain water. The only possible repair option was to rebuild the shower tub, which meant taking all the tiles, and cement floor out, remove about a foot high of wall tiles, and reinstall shower tub liner, and set the tiles again. In a rather unpleasant phone conversation that followed, Mr.Pawlak flatly rejected that there’s a need to reinstall the tub liner. In his opinion, re-grouting should be sufficient remedy. Important clarification: The very purpose of a rubber liner in a tiled shower tub is to collect the water seeping through the grout. Any respectable plumber and tile setter knows that there is no such thing as water-tight grout. Otherwise, why bother installing rubber liner? We had no choice, but to collect estimates, select and hire another company to make the repairs needed. The work was completed early this year, with labor and material costs amounting to $2,600 in total. We contacted PP, provided all supporting documentation, and asked for restitution of the costs, but that fell on deaf ears. Subsequently we filed a complaint with local Better Business Bureau, asking for restitution. Again, in its response PP dismissed any responsibility.
Description of Work: Pawlak Plumbing was hired to remodel two bathrooms in our house: In first bathroom, they did complete removal of all wall and floor tiles, water closets, bath tubs and vanities. They installed new sub-floors, tiles on the floor and in bath tub area. New bath tub, water closet, two sinks and all fixtures were installed. Finally, wall painting was done. In the second bathroom, the work was more extensive - all the tiles, floors and drywall was removed, down to the bare studs. The bathroom was then completely rebuilt: new drywall, floor tiling, custom built shower tub & tiling, new sink and vanity, and wall painting.

Response from PAWLAK PLUMBING INC
Pawlak Plumbing Inc. has been in business since April 1983 and we believe that we do not do shoddy work as the member stated or we would not be in the business today in good standing with the BBB and Angie's List. In response to his complaint I dispatched two of my employees, one a licensed plumber and helper to his house in search of a water leak in the bathroom. During 4 hours of investigation, we plugged the drain and filled the whole shower base full of water and found no leak coming from the shower pan itself. The one thing that we did find was a crack in the grout where it was leaking under the shower door. I offered to the member to send my tile contractor, (who has been in business for 30 years) to fix this problem, but he denied this offer stating that he did not want him back in his house to fix the crack in the grout. He never mentioned to me that he was going to hire another firm. I believe that we should have been given the opportunity to re-grout the tile before he hired another firm. I also believe that if the shower pan liner had a hole in it, this would have been leaking the first day, not six months later. The next I heard from him is that he had the whole shower base replaced and that I owe him $2,592.81. I am not admitting to any wrongdoing but I am offering to pay him one half $1,296.41 of his invoice to get this situation resolved.
