Mike did a fantastic job and was a perfectionist. He was one of the best if not the best contractor that we ever had in terms of in both quality and professionalism. Great personality too which made him easy to work with.
Description of Work: We needed a kitchen backsplash with an intricately designed insert. We provided the tile and Mike did the installation.

Some people splurge on gourmet kitchens with built-in coffeemakers, wine refrigerators, industrial-grade stoves, etc. What we splurged on in our small, windowless kitchen was handmade tiles from Earth Song Tiles by John and Shannon Gresham (www.earthsongtiles.com/), to go between the upper and lower cabinets on three walls. We sent them the measurements, color choices and glazes, and chose the background, border and figured tiles we wanted from their website. As a Celtic harper, I was especially eager to see the Celtic harp tile, the center of our sink backsplash, that Shannon was hand-painting for me—and it is exactly what I hoped for! Despite some delays due to holidays, John sent us seven carefully-packed boxes of tiles (not one was cracked or broken, despite going through the mail across the continent from British Columbia to Pittsburgh!). After interviewing several tile-setters, we chose Mike Roznowski of MJR Tile and Marble to install them. Mike worked carefully and patiently, dealing expertly with prepping the walls and installing the tiles. We told him we valued quality over speed, and he delivered, because we cannot find a single error! This is the focal point of our kitchen, and we are delighted with their expertise. We will definitely be using the Greshams and Mike in future projects in our home.

Based on his rating on Angie's List, I called to get some work done. Of course, he would have had to come and check out the job and give me an estimate, but that can only happen if he ever returned the call. Which he did not! I don't care if he doesn't want the work, just call me back and tell me not to wait for his call.
Description of Work: Never did any work. He never returned my call.

Via research on Angie's list, I called Mike at MJR tile and scheduled an appointment for him to come to our home and give us an estimate on replacing bathtub fixtures, drain, and some tile work. He cancelled twice by calling shortly after the time he was supposed to show up and we rescheduled twice. At this point I felt it was Ok because he said he ran over time limits on other jobs. I didn't have a problem with that and I was being very patient and congenial. Mike sounded like an upstanding guy who was working hard to finish jobs he had begun. He finally did show up, on time, looked at the job,and we had a pleasant conversation during the hour he was at my place. He said he would send me an estimate in a few days. I didn't hear from him after a week and a half so I called him and he said to send him my email address and he would then email me the estimate. I complied the same day asking for him to respond with the estimate. I never heard from him again. Over the period of the next 4 weeks I called him at least 3x, never got a response. I emailed him twice more, never got a response. This project timeline for me was to have it completed before Dec 15. This all started in mid October. At first conversation with Mike he said he could complete the job in one day once we had an agreement. I have now lost the opportunity to have the project completed due to my suspended search for a qualified, responsible professional because of the original discussion I had with Mike. I trusted his professionalism and thought he was my guy to do the job. Due to his procrastination and unresponsiveness to me simply asking him for the estimate he promised , the problems in this tub area continue unresolved. All he had to do was tell me he wasn't interested, for whatever reason. I even offered my apologies in the event his lack of response was due to an emergency or extenuating circumstance which he had no control over. And still absolutely no response. How do people in business claim to be professionals by behaving in this manner? I don't have the answer. But One thing I will not tolerate is being ignored, especially to the point that when promised something as simple as an estimate and the contractor simply chooses not to respond. This is not how a professional acts. I was first impressed with Mike and his knowledge and ideas when I met him. Now, I am completely discouraged and would not hire this company to even clear a clog.
Description of Work: II wanted an estimate on bathroom fixture replacement, tile work etc.

Michael did an AMAZING job with our kitchen backsplash. We wanted to use a style of tile that is particularly challenging to install (old-fashioned rectified subway tile with super thin grout) in an old house where all is not perfectly level and square. I chose Michael to do the work in large part because other Angie's List reviewers commended his attention to detail and the level of care he brings to his work. Michael was courteous, responsive, and professional at all times. The job ended up taking a fair amount longer than he had originally estimated, but I was so grateful that he never seemed frustrated or started to rush the work. He knew that we were not in a hurry, and that the precision and quality was more important to us than timing. He was very thoughtful and deliberate in planning out the pattern of the tile. I can't say enough about how happy we are with the end result. I'm a very detail-oriented person, and throughout our recent kitchen renovation, Michael is the one contractor that I felt absolutely no hesitation that he wouldn't take shortcuts, and that his standards were as ridiculously high as mine can be. ;) I knew that when he faced a challenge, he wouldn't just throw something together to get by...he would carefully think through all the possible solutions, then choose the one that he felt best suited the needs. When I got home, he talked to me about any difficult areas (rather than leaving things for me to discover later—although with his solutions, I doubt I would have ever noticed anything) and showed me his work to make sure I agreed with his approach. He cleaned up after himself each day, and at the end of the job made sure he was not leaving any mess behind. The final price was at the high end of what he'd estimated the job might cost, but given the amount of time he put in to the job—and to making sure every tile was placed and quot;just soand quot;—I felt that the cost was fair and completely reasonable. Highly, highly recommend Michael for any tiling job, and can't wait to see what he can do on our bathroom renovation when we get around to it! Thanks, Michael!

We called him, and told him what we wanted done. He came to our house and gave a free estimate. I had scheduled another company to come and give an estimate, but my husband liked Mike so much we canceled it. We found the tile at a smaller tile store (I think he recommended it). Mike purchased it for us at price that was lower than retail. It took a few weeks for the order to come in. As soon as it did, Mike picked it up. I think he started our job the next day. It was a two day project, and he cut some special pieces to cover the wood supports that held up the mantle. He cleaned up after he did the job. I'd give him an A+.
Description of Work: Mike covered our family room floor to ceiling brick firepace and mantle with beutiful large dark gray porcelen tiles. He was meticulous about his work. We had already replaced the wood paneling with drywall and painted it a medium gray with white trim. It looked good, but after Mike covered the fireplace it looked GREAT!

He was the nicest young man starting out in business. He is a perfectionist. If it takes him a little longer to do the job he will apologize but he will make sure he has it perfect. He has the most reasonable price of anybody around. He cleans up all his mess when his is done with the work. I would highly recommend him and use him again. He is very punctual and he will get back to you very quickly. I have never been more impressed with a young business man.
