I had a guy lined up to do the drywall for my interior renovation project- he had done work for a friend- but he flaked on me at the last moment. In a panic to make a deadline, I called a dozen or so plaster and drywall guys from Angie's List. A plaster guy named DelAquilla told me that he did not do drywall, but he knew some good drywall guys and would call around for me. An hour later Mark Collichie called me and we arranged a meeting that Sunday for him to bid the job. On Sunday he came to my home as scheduled. His manner was no-nonsense and direct. He gave me a price and a time frame, and also pointed out some framing and flooring issues that I needed to resolve before he could begin. His bid of $4800 was $2200 less than another guy I had bid the job earlier that weekend. After consulting with my fiancee, I called Mark and told him that if he could bring me a contract to sign (we were feeling very chapped from the 1st guy who disappeared on us leaving us behind schedule) the job was his. On Monday Mark brought me a contract to sign as scheduled. On Tuesday Mark schlepped 40 sheets of drywall up my stairs and into my house. By the end of the week he had 80 sheets in the house along with tools and scaffolding, and was hanging the walls and ceiling on the 2nd floor. Over the following 10 days Mark and his partner did a beautiful job of hanging and finishing the drywall. He took special care to make the uneven walls in my 100+ year-old house look straight and perfect, using shims and glue to bridge low studs and joists. He worked fast, worked smart, and kept the place neat. It was very clear by the quality and speed of his work that he is very good at finishing drywall. He finished the job ahead of schedule and with absolutely no complaints or drama. Mark Collichie really came through for us after we got burned by our original drywall guy.
