They are professional, and clean up very well. I like that they are always punctual and listen to my needs. They may be a little pricey, but they do good work. Also, all of their employess are extremely polite. Their communication is good, and everything has worked out well.

They are very well qualified, get the work done on time and do a nice job. We were very happy with the work. They do a very nice job. I like them because they sent someone out for an estimate, they gave me a contract, they more than fulfilled their end of the bargain and did a wonderful job. They were very neat, cleaned up and when they left everything was immaculate which I like. It was beautifully done, it looked like something that could be an advertising photo, it was very professionally done.

They seemed to disappear after coming and looking at our property. We called once and was promised a design and estimate, but that never materialized.
Description of Work: We wanted to totally relandscape our front yard, getting rid of the lawn and very overgrown bushes. A person came to look at it, and then we waited. We finally got an estimate for removing the bushes, but never got a landscaping plan or price estimate for the rest.

When we were contacted in February 2011, it was my understanding the member was getting bids from other firms and wanted two seperate estimates. The first was the estimate to remove the existing landscape to give them a clean slate. The second would be the planting estimate. The company whose first bid was accepted by the member would get to do the design and the second bid. The first estimate was mailed March 3, 2011 and we never heard from the member after that. I thought the member chose another firm. I'm sorry if there was some confusion on my part or a miscommunication.

They were a little bit more expensive, but I felt that the price was worth the quality of the work. They were very particular in how I handle the plants. They had knowledge of plants and how to replant them. The guys were very nice.

This Angies list member had lots of questions that needed answering before we got the job. I spent the time explaning the job and answering the questions. Unfortunatly the tree company that was supposed to grind out the stump missed a large part of the stump. We had to stop the job for a few days so the tree company could finish the removal. There was no additional charge from our company for the change in plans.

Called for an estimate. Had his cell number and he seemed p***** that I called him on that. Found his number in the phone book...called that number and he returned my call and we set up an appointment for him to look at the job. He came out, and gave me an exorbitant price ($1600) to reseed me lawn!!! The lawn is size of a small city yard) It must of been too small of a job for him to bother with. Didn't use them.
Description of Work: We needed our backyard reseeded with grass.

Response from Kimicata Brothers Inc
When the member called on March 8, 2010, the contact was with our business phone number listed in the phone book, I do not list my cell phone number in the phone book. My answering service, not me, took the call. I will bring this to my answering service attention. There is no reason to be anything but professional and polite on the phone. I returned the call the next day and the member requested a price for spring clean up and lawn seeding. The member did not say anything about the first contact being unsatisfactory. February 2010 had 48" of snow fall, so when the member called the ground was covered with snow. At the first opportunity I stopped at the property, surveyed the damage from the snow to the shrubs, inspected the lawn that was mostly weeds and moss also noting the overall poor condition of the landscape. On March 18th the bid for the spring clean up of the property, seeding fertilizing and liming of the lawn (2,115 square feet) for $1,540 was mailed. Just as the member was not accurate with the price of the estimate and my work phone number not my cell, I feel the member was not accurate with the grading of the company nor the comment of my answering service being p***** that she called. It may sound sexist, but my answering service is staffed by females and I often have customers that call tell me they were talking to my wife. When I tell them it is my answering service, they are surprised. I was responsive to the member. I was punctual with my return call and the estimate. I was and still am professional with all of my contacts. If the member was not happy with the price I feel it was because the member didn't know that getting a nice lawn is more than throwing down some seed. I gave an estimate based on the work I felt that needed to be done to get good results. As far as punctual, the member received the bid March 19th or 20th of 2010 and did not post a comment until February 18th, 2011. I think after 11 months some of the details may be blurred by time. I keep written details of every call, response time, bid, conditions and measurements of properties. I feel this member was shooting from the hip posting a report this far removed from the actual call. Before responding to this report I went by the property to refresh my memory and the landscape is still in poor condition.

The monthly bills were quite high, the result was poor and I told them that I would do my own planting and asked for help with the lawn. I also reported that the workers seemed to spend a lot of time picking us sticks in non-grassy areas and it seem to me that they were spending expensive but useless time. I reported this to Mr. Kimikata and a short time later, he discharged us as customers. This was in late September or early October, just before the leaves fell. Later I learned that the soil was too degraded to support flowers.
Description of Work: Mr. Kimikata's people did landscape work for us over many years (greater than 10). The quality of the work slowly got worse until flowers didn't thrive at all and pruned lilacs and forsythia became ugly. The lilacs had been pruned to death. The lawn also was cared for by fertilizing and mowing but also was in poor shape. When the patio needed repair, this was done well.

Response from Kimicata Brothers Inc
I worked for this member for years. With the members increasing age it became increasingly difficult to work at the property. We used to service her property for trimming the shrubs three times a year. In July 2006 the member called complaining that the men showed up to trim the shrubs unannounced, so the member didn't want any more trimming unless requested . So I tried to explain the importance of trimming shrubs at the correct time, that is why we trim multiple time a year. Different shrubs bloom at different times, so they require to be trimmed at different times. So the rest of 2006 and untill August of 2007 nothing was trimmed. The member called for trimming. I went with the crew and of course after a year the place was completely overgrown. We trimmed everything and billed $221.50. The member complained about the bill and the work. The last work was lawn fertilization July 2008. We left a note about how dry the lawn was and the need for regular watering. The member called and told me to stop all lawn applications. I explained that my minimum service level is grass cutting and lawn treatments. With the members increasing displeasure with our company and not meeting my minimum service requirements, I informed the member they would have to find another company and I continued the grass cutting till the end of the month. The grass cutting price is a fixed price, so the men picking up sticks on the property is part of my service to keep the property neat looking. I feel the report is not accurate because the last work was done in July of 2008 with the member posting a report in February 2011. So the details of the text are not accurate.

They were excellent. They were very responsive. We would recommend them. They did a perfect job and the price was great. The whole house looked great. The young person was quick and wonderful to do the research but he didn't have the experience to do the garden. He was friendly and willing to do the research. We knew a lot more than he did about perennials. I was impressed with his ability to do research and he drew up a plan. We haven't signed that contract because we are reevaluating our costs for things. There are a lot of things that we could do on our own so we are not sure we want to spend the money for things we can do ourselves. We would recommend them highly for basic landscaping and cleanup but probably not for sophisticated landscaping. They are more for trees and basic landscaping. They are willing to try and they are growing that part of their business.
Description of Work: We used Kimicata Brothers to clean our yard with the leaves and everything. They also gave us a quote for putting a garden in on the side of our house.

We have just hired a recent graduate in landscape architecture in the fall of 2010. This was his first contact. The member wanted specific perennials, so this was a great opportunity for him to research and learn more about perennials. I am sorry the member feels not to reccomend us for sophisticated landscaping. I feel this bid was a learning experience for our architect and only helped make us a better company.

I spent a lot of money, but was generally pleased with the outcome. In addition to showing up punctually in April as prearranged, Kimicata responds quickly whenever I call with another task, so anything I want done gets done with minimal effort on my part. With landscapers, that's a rare benefit. They did a particularly good job pruning damaged or previously neglected (and thus misshapen and/or overgrown) trees, and their reseeding jobs always seem to take. They're also a particularly good rhododendron source; I don't know where they get them, but the ones they put in have thrived far better than rhododendrons put in by others.
Description of Work: This reviews covers a season's worth of landscaping, from spring clean-up to fall clean-up. In between, they pruned snow-damaged serviceberry trees and removed some dead hemlocks, pruned other trees and bushes, planted additional ground cover, removed some privet hedges and replaced them with rhododendrons, mulched, aerated and reseeded my (small) lawn after it burned, and sprayed for weeds and fungus as needed.

I would like to thank the customer for the good report. When we perform planting or seeding in hot dry weather it is less costly to our company to help the homeowner with some additional watering than wait for the seed or plants to die, then try to remedy the situation. Although we received a B for price, there was no additional charges for the time we spent over the two week period for the grass seed to come up.

The company was extremely responsive and professional. The estimator came out and took a look at my project within a week of my initial call and I had a price the same day. Used Kimicata last year and this year for large landscaping effort - arborvitae border, perennials, fruit shrubs, etc. Some of the plants and grass were looking pretty bad after the hot dry summer. Did not realize that watering was essential to plant life (yes, I'm that dumb); but after discussing with Paul Kimicata and researching watering options on line, we decided that an in-ground pop-up sprinkler head system would suit our lifestyle best (little work on our part). Kimicata's crews arrived promptly on the day scheduled, worked consistently for 4 days (except for one rainy day...see, the sprinkler system works!) until job was completed. Work included trenching, pulling pipe and installing heads, inside plumbing work, hang controller and wire valves, hang and wire rain sensor, clean up and will return to assist with draining of system prior to winter. Use of system demonstrated by Kimicata staff and follow up call to ensure system working as configured. Workmanship carries a 5 year warranty. Other than research on internet, did not get estimates from other companies because of our satisfaction with past work and our continued relationship with Kimicata.
Description of Work: installed a residential irrigation system (in ground sprinkler with pop up spray heads, Hunter Pro C controller & Module (timer), Hunter electirc Valve, valve box, back flo device, rain sensor) for yard (9200 sq ft). Clean up of yard included re-seeding most of yard.

Please don't think that a sprinkler system is a big cost. It is actually a small investment for the proper maintenance of your landscape. Plants are mostly water. Plants kept in a good growing condition thru timely watering are healthier, need less fertilizer and pesticides. So we strive to install a quality system that carries a 5 year warranty, because we want you to enjoy years of trouble free watering. The member mentioned the rain sensor that goes with the system. This helps prevent wasting water! Thank you for the good report.

Very professional and knowledgeable, both Mr. Kimicata and his crew. Took a while to get on his busy schedule, but he predicted that and eventually did call to follow up. Every meeting was punctual, and the work was done as efficiently as could have imagined. When I noticed that deer appeared to be going after the new plants, he sent someone over - twice so far - to spray deer repellent, no extra charge. Just a pleasure to deal with that company, I intend to involve them in future landscaping projects down the road.
Description of Work: * Installed 4' x 30' walkway with travertine pavers (supplied by us) * Prepared an oblong, ca 50' x 20' flower/shrub bed, previously lawn area; covered with landscaping tarp and mulch; planted shrubs and grasses according to selection and drawing we provided. * Prepared an oval, ca 25' x 15' flower/shrub bed, transplanted some pampas grasses from elsewhere in the yard; covered with mulch as per our specs. * Prepared a ca 70' x 50' groundcover bed under two large trees where grass wouldn't grow anymore; tilled and spread mushroom manure, planted over 40 flats of myrtle

As I have stated we are not the cheapest landscape company, but we are professional, prompt and thorough. Other companies probably would have charged for the additional deer repellent applications. The Kimicata crew was fantastic. They did everything as contracted, and they finished the job extremely quickly. In addition, they neatly trimmed some existing spreading yews and bushes - that was a nice bonus. They left the yard, sidewalk, and driveway clean and they cleared all the trimmings, woodchips, and other debris from the property. My yard looks better than it ever has! Better still, they offered a very fair price for the work. I would definitely hire these guys again.
Description of Work: The crew removed several beds of wood chips and seeded the areas with grass (a few hundred square feet, by my estimate). They also cleared a fallow flowerbed and planted some mums and a spreading yew.

The job was not performed by the owner but by two workers, one of which had no idea what he was doing. They removed all of my creeping Jenny, planted bushes that will eventualy obstruct my view of the pond, brought in way too many plants for the small courtyard and the fence was not intalled correctly allowing my two small dogs to crawl right under. It was decided not to modify or move the fountain. I had to ask them to replant one of the climbing bushes closer to the wall because it would not have been able to clilmb. I was constantly telling them what to do and what not to do. I didn't feel that I should have to supervise the job-that's why you hire a professional company. The front landscape was unbelievable, they literally planted the flowers and holly bush in broken pieces of concrete and gravel and installed the small fence with two sides of it sticking out onto the sidewalk. We received the adjusted bill and it was not correct. We called Paul and told him how dissatisfied we were with the job and that we weren't credited properly for the plants that we didn't use. He stopped by and looked everything over and said that he would make it right. Brought back the same crew plus one, removed the awful Holly and replaced it with a different bush, brought in top soil and mulch and had cement and gravel removed from the front landscape. The fence is worse that the first time, installed in a weird oval shape on one side instead of the rectangular shape of the area. The one Black eyed Susan has already died from dogs urinating on it because it's right up against the oval part of the fence. It looks horrible. This is the front of my home, where everyone walks by-the rest of the home looks beautiful because my husband and I did it. We could have done a better job with that small area. We are having the fence removed and replaced by someone else. The two mop cypress plants have died and close to a quarter of the myrtle has died. The man that services my pond discovered 4 myrtle plants that were not even planted, just laying on the ground! The only job that we were satisfied with was the pea gravel along side of the house. As far as the landscaping, my husband and I could have done a better job and saved over $2,0000!!! The second adjusted bill was nothing short of being robbed, we paid it and we are done with Kimicata. The plants carry a one year guarantee, we will replace the already dying ones on our own. I will tell anyone I know not to use this company.
Description of Work: I hired Kimicata to do landscaping in my small courtyard, lay plastic and pea gravel along the side of my house and landscape a small area in front of my house. I asked that he not plant anything high that would obstruct the view of my pond from my seating area. I also wanted a small fence installed around the perimeter of the landscaped area to keep out my two small dogs and move and modify a small fountain and incorporate it into the pond area.

Response from Kimicata Brothers Inc
The member called our company March 23, 2010 for work to be done on the backyard. I looked at a small but very nice patio on the south side with a small pond (7’x 3’) at the far side. I asked what the member didn’t like. Three things came up. One, most of the plants (creeping jenny, bishop weed, Hosta) are not evergreen so, there is bare ground all winter and early spring. Two, the pond isn’t very visible from the seating areas. Three, don’t like mulch. The member had a free standing fountain, I suggested be incorporated with the pond to add the sound of water and height to the pond. We discussed a fence to keep the two dogs and cat out of the garden. I suggested chicken wire but the member wanted something more decorative. We also looked at planting a small bed (6’x3.5’) in front and a narrow bed (96’x 1’) along the house that separated it from the parking lot. Turns out, there is a water problem with the foundation, so we switched to plastic and gravel. The bed in front turned out to be the old foundation from the house that was torn down. Before the bid was accepted, we discussed plants and the fence, where I gave options to pick the fence from the internet, or local stores and it was left to me. The bid was signed as is. There were only two workers because it was a small yard. The landscape foreman graduated from a prominent Pennsylvania college in landscape contracting and has completed many projects professionally and dealt with customers changing aspects of a job before. After removing the plants the member decided not to move the fountain, didn’t like the perennial I picked to grow thru the fence to create the barrier, and basically threw out the plan. So the foreman did his best to accommodate the member’s changes. I met with the member and addressed the complaints. The front bed was lifted, the old bricks removed, new soil installed and the plants replanted at no charge. However, the foundation to her steps extended into the bed by one foot so the fence was not symmetrical in the bed. I can’t help dogs peeing thru the fence onto the plants. We lowered the fence to help keep out the dogs at no charge. I offered to replace the perennials we removed or plant more of the evergreen ground cover. The choice was more evergreen ground cover at no charge. I can’t help the pets are getting into the garden since the boarder plants were rejected and there was no interest in the member picking the fence. Another complaint was it didn’t look finished, as when you put fabric and soil down. I explained it is fabric and mulch. So I installed the fabric and mulch at no cost. Finally I credited $220 of the $2,450, or almost 10% of the job. I don’t know why I was hired. For a few hundred dollars the existing planting could have been left, a few plants added and a fence installed on their own. I am sorry I did not hit the member’s expectations, but it is difficult to hit a moving target. You can read positive member comments for work the same foreman completed on Angie’s list.

The member called on a Wednesday, I explained to the member that I have a business meeting on the South Side every Thursday. So that is the day I go see properties on that side of town. After I saw the property I would call if I had any questions, if not I would mail a bid for the work we discussed. Unfortunatly I had other places that had called before her to see. I ran out of time the first Thursday, but I did see the property the second Thursday. So I worked up a bid, but was never mailed, because on Sunday I was notified of the report. So it would have been about two weeks between the first call and receiving the bid. I'm sorry I was unaware of the urgency she was expecting.

I would like to thank the Member for the good report. I know cost is important to members and we don't always get an A for price, but we stand behind our work. Plants carry a one year warranty excluding accident, negligence, or abuse. Even though the plants we replaced under warranty were damaged by snow falling off of the roof we did not charge for the work. We updated the existing sprinkler system and there were no other issues because the sprinkler kept everything alive and healthy. So I didn't have any problem replacing them at no cost to the member because that was the only loss. There was one other item we took care of at no charge. With seeding and watering the lawn, the nut grass that was already present in the soil flourished. We went back to touch up the seeding and pulled the nut grass. Then on final inspection we pulled the remaining nut grass from the lawn,

After the initial consultation and estimate meeting, I was impressed with Mr. Kimicata's knowledge. However, the actual lawn cutting, done by a staff member, hacked the lawn on my front hillside in a way I never experienced with my former gardener. I politely mentioned this to Mr. Kimicata and he assured better service. The beginning of the current season, no one came to cut the lawn so I called. No response from him and after the third call I got the message and switched to another provider. The pricing estimates were uneven. The estimates for trimming shrubs on a difficult hillside was much higher than other gardeners, but the weekly lawn cutting price was surprisingly low. However, given the lapse of quality in the cutting, the low cost lost its appeal.

He is right, I did not return his calls. At the initial consultation he showed me the property lines, as I measured up the job, and asked for the trimming trees on the hillside. I gave him quotes for the work. After the first cut he did voice his displeasure at the quality of the job. Also that we were to cut the neighbors front grass. This was not discussed at the original meeting nor was it part of the price. Upon trimming the trees the member's wife OK the work before we left. The member called and asked for additional trimming on one very high tree. So we returned with the equipment and did the additional trimming. When the member received the bill he told me he would not pay the additional charge. So I will not work for the member

It was excellent. They were very prompt, professional and they helped me make decisions to come up with a nice uniformed landscape.
Description of Work: They took out some damaged bushes and replaced them. They added additional bushes. They put in some river stones, stepping stones and inlayed pots.

I have been using them for many years and I will continue to use them. They are reliable and their prices are reasonable. It's not only the landscaping that they do, but they also do the cleaning, spraying and everything to keep the lawn in a good shape. They are very responsive. They don't have any schedules to come out. I usually don't call them for the appointments. They come once a month or when it needs to be sprayed or when ever required.
Description of Work: I use Kimicata Brothers Inc for landscaping and their last visit was a month ago.

Thank you for the good report. After some construction the back was covered in weeds. Instead of trying to remove the weeds alive we used a herbicide to kill all the weed growth. This made the job more managable and allowed us to to price it competitively.

The experience went incredibly well. The crew was friendly and answered all of our questions without complaint. We have received comments and compliments from everybody who witnessed the work being done. In fact, our neighbor asked for a quote to replace their wall after watching the crew work. We couldn't be happier with our decision to choose Kimikata. Their crew was professional, and their work was superior quality. We liked them so much that we have asked them for a quote to replace our front walkway with pavers to match the new retaining wall.
Description of Work: Kimikata Brothers replaced a retaining wall beside our driveway. The process by which the wall was built was exactly what was proposed by Kimikata. The crew dug out the existing wall and efficiently removed the waste. They built the wall with a crushed limestone base and laid the versa-lock blocks flush against the cement driveway. The blocks incorporated the mesh between the blocks and pegs held the blocks together. A drainage pipe was added, and the wall was backfilled with gravel. The did an incredible job cleaning up after themselves and surprised us by powerwashing the wall and driveway!

Thank you for the good report. We do stress to our crews to leave the job clean. In talking with customers and reading Angie's List comments, that is often a common complaint for a broad range of service companies. So when the foreman came back and said to clean up he need to take the pressure washer, it was put on their trailer for the next day. Even though it was not part of the bid, I was glad the foreman took the extra effort to do it right.

Excellent job. A little on the pricey side, but worth it. They came in on time, did the evaluation and left the place clean of weeds. They also treated the place with a herbicide. Very happy with them.
Description of Work: They cleaned up all the weeds in my backyard and removed a tree which was worthless.

Very professional, but way over-priced. I was thinking the cost would be re: $100 and gave me a $500 estimate. Another contractor came out and gave me an estimate for $75 and completed the work in less than 2 hours (hauling included). Granted, the second contractor gave me more than my money's worth, but $500 seems way over-priced.
Description of Work: I needed to have a rose of sharon and lilac bush trimmed.

Response from Kimicata Brothers Inc
It was a row of Rose a Sharon the length of her garage and a Lilac bush that were completely overgrown. The homeowner was correct. Who ever she got to do the work had the job under bid because there was $75 worth of hauling. I did not go back to look at the job but to be trimmed properly the cuts should be varied and the largest branches cut close to the ground.
