Services we offer
Home energy efficiency & comfort evaluations. Home energy audits that include infrared analysis and blower door air infiltration testing. Insulation AND air sealing measures for attics, exterior walls, garage ceilings, basement rim joists, and crawl spaces. The primary insulation that we use is cellulose insulation. We are fans of cellulose insulation because it is incredibly effective, less expensive than spray foam or fiberglass, sustainably sourced from recycled newspaper fibers, and completely non-toxic.
Services we don't offer
We do not do whole home / new construction spray foam insulation.
From Andy down to all his workers they acted very professional and courteous. Very knowledgeable. Results were exactly what i wanted, my older two story house now stays 1-2 degrees from 1st to 2nd story. Much more even temperature, even when 85 degrees!

It was a real pleasure working with Insulwise. I met the owner and several employees. All were first class people. The estimator had a glitch in the estimate, but the owner straightened it out, gave great advice and provided excellent service.
Description of Work: We had repeated freezing of pipes in an interior bathroom. They came and used energy auditing (IR camera and blow door) and general construction knowledge to figure out the problem - knee walls were not properly insulated including the joists, so cold air went along the floor and froze the pipes. They showed me a couple of other areas that needed improvement. We're very professional, no hard sales. Had a mild winter, but I could tell it worked on the coldest days this year. 100% satisfied!!!

I did quite a bit of research and investigation prior to contacting Insulwise. After a bit of Q&A about scope, techniques, etc., they scheduled and completed a job that included improvements in my attic and basement. I was pleased with the company and team throughout the project. The sales person was extremely professional and above-board during the entire job. I was most pleased with the entire team's availability and responsiveness to emails and phone calls. As others have mentioned, it's not cheap but Insulwise offers great value for the expertise and service that they provide. From the start you could tell that they know the science behind their work, which is different from lots of other contractors offering basic insulation services. Since they performed the work I've noticed improvements in my home performance, with reductions in energy bills. The aeroseal seems like a gimmick and if you read much online you'll read every opinion under the sun, from great to hate. I can speak from experience, however, and Aeroseal did a great job and made a VERY noticable difference in the air delivery throughout my home. It was a very pleasant surprise. Everyone from Brady to Andy and the rest of their team went above and beyond to make sure that I was satisfied - i highly recommend Insulwise.

The job was done in a two part install. Both times the technicians were neat, professional and provided answers to any of my questions. I have two dogs and they were mindful of their safety and comfort as well as mine. I would highly recommend Insulwise to any one that is thinking about improving comfort and energy in their home. I can't wait to see the benefits reflected in my energy bills.
Description of Work: My home was built in 1978 and the A/C was added later. It needed several things to make it more efficient for heating and cooling. After an audit by Insulwise's energy specialist, it was determined that my ductwork needed sealing, the exposed ductwork in the garage needed insulation and the entire attic and garage ceiling needed to be sealed and additional insulation added for efficiency. Brady, the sales/energy specialist spent a great deal of time with me running tests, checking leaks, and explaining everything that was in need of correction. I felt that this entire process was very informative and provided me with excellent facts to make an intelligent decision regarding my insulation needs.

These guys won't be your lowest bid, but they stand up to their word and do quality work. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. That really held true when we choose to go with Insulwise. Prior to performing the work, we had lots of questions and it definitely took some patience on their part to put up with me. Andy (the owner) and I had multiple phone calls prior to performing the work, and they didn't always tell me what I wanted to hear, or reduce the price below their margin (They dont work for free FYI), but I always left the conversation feeling that they were honest with me. I really appreciated that. Once scheduled, Andy and team arrived on time, worked diligently throughout the day completing the job at roughly 8pm on a Friday. This was a long day for them. After finishing, the crew stayed for an additional 30-45m to answer all the questions we had and just talk about the work they performed and what we could expect. Each of the crew were great guys, very nice and respectful of my house, my family, and our pets. Specifically, they were great with our dog, who will forever be grateful for having a cool house during those 90 degree days. In regards to the work performed, we have no complaints whatsoever. The work they performed exceeded our expectations. The crew went above and beyond, fixing items that were not factored into their scope of work and pricing. Looking back we are very glad we choose Insulwise. If you're still reading this, give them a call. You won't be disappointed. Highly Recommended!

Insulwise uses the Dr. Energy Saver model for their work. We had another company, Bolster-DeHart, give an estimate a few days earlier. Bolster-DeHart used Dr. Energy Saver, too, but they charged a lot more because they were going to remove our old insulation first, which added not only removal costs but also material costs, because they'd have to blow in more cellulose to fill in the spots where the batts were. We figured, as long as Insulwise was still going to seal air leaks, why bother removing the old insulation, stirring up all kinds of dirt and creating extra waste? So we went with Insulwise since it was basically the same service but cheaper. Going with Bolster-DeHart probably would have been less hassle, but we're happy with Insulwise anyway. Here are more details about why it was a hassle and why we're happy anyway. The salesman, Brady, performed a blower door test before giving an estimate. He spent a lot of time on it, and it was interesting to see the results. Brady was nice, but he was also kind of pushy. We didn't decide immediately whether to move forward, and we had a lot of questions. On a follow up phone call, he got frustrated and angry with us, but he called back to apologize. Insulwise/Andy requested to change our scheduled date a couple of times, making it difficult to take time off of work to be home for when the work was performed, but they did give advance notice of the changes and they arrived on time. Insulwise/Andy used a subcontractor to install the bathroom fan (which occurred a week or so before Insulwise came to do the actual insulation work). The subcontractor left a gap between the wall and switchplate and made a huge mess of debris in our bathroom that he didn't clean up, but the fan works well, and Andy apologized and gave a discount for the trouble. The Insulwise team themselves left everything clean, and they were courteous and professional. They even took some gunk out of our gutters while they were on the roof finishing off the bathroom fan vent. Immediately we could tell that the heat from the attic was no longer leaking to the main living floor. It's been a great, worthwhile improvement so far. Note that we have a 1950s brick ranch with no insulation in the walls. Insulwise recommended sealing basement joists, and we declined that. The attic insulation seems to have done the trick all by itself. In sum, Andy, the owner at Insulwise, is great. His installation team is great. His salespeople and subcontractors are not very professional. Insulwise definitely improved our home, and the price was definitely right. Just don't let the salesguy push you around, and don't let them offer to do work (like install a bathroom fan) that they'll have to subcontract out to someone else.
Description of Work: We wanted attic sealing and insulation (blown in cellulose), which also involved installation of an insulated attic hatch cover. We also wanted a bath fan installed in our bathroom and vented outside through the roof.

It went very well. I could not be home for the installation but felt at ease with Andy and his crew being in my house by themselves. Work completed in two days, they cleaned up very well. Don't make the mistake I did; have this done before painting! The plugs they took out of the plaster walls were well repaired, need sanding and painting, but that's it. Overall very satisfied for the price paid. The house seems quieter already thanks to the cellulose insulation. Aeroseal and the attic insulation should allow the a/c to finally cool second floor of my Cape Cod, meaning no more window a/c unit and uncomfortable temperature differences.

Outstanding crew!!! Highly recommended to anyone in need of any insulation work, but specifically anybody with mold issues in the attic space. David and his crew actually took the time to work with our family to find the root cause of moisture issues we've been having in the attic. after many other phone calls and wasted time, insulwise was the answer. they air sealed my entire attic floor so no air from the house could enter, as well as increased my r value to 49. now my temperature inside the house and the second floor is much more consistent, saving $ on heating and cooling, but most importantly no moisture is able to enter the attic space. they were courteous, professional, well priced, and without a doubt i would recommend then to anyone in need of moisture issues in the attic, or any other insulation work.

From the energy audit to the workmanship afterwards it was great. The employees who ended up coming to our house throughout the process were very professional, respectful and kind. We asked to have the free energy audit done which I would recommend - Xavier comes out and uses a blower door test to see where all you have air loss. While the test is running he takes you all around the house to explain what is happening - very knowledgeable and informative. We ended up not having the sidewalls done because of the mess it would make to our plaster walls. Dave and his crew were right on time, very professional and explained what would be taking place and what it would accomplish. It took them 2 days to complete the work. The evening after they were done my husband noticed that there was some insulation in the air vent in one of the bedrooms so I called Andy the owner and the next day Dave came out and checked and it was fine, just some extra insulation came through a small area around the vent itself. He vacuumed it up and actually fixed the vent area so it would work better than previously. The price was very affordable and Andy honored the discounted percentage they originally gave us when we were were going to get everything done. For the size of our house - almost 3800 sq ft. the price was very reasonable. I would definitely use them again if we needed anything.

Everything went great! The crew was on time, polite, and professional. Andy answered any questions I had. They had no issues with me checking in throughout the day. Everything was complete in 9 hours. I would definitely hire again for any insulation related service.
Description of Work: Our home is a cape cod built in 1939. We purchased it this summer and even though it was well taken care of, we knew there were some energy efficiency improvements that needed to be made. In October, I could feel cool air coming in on the second floor and the entire second floor just seemed cold, even though winter had not even started yet! I had read about cape cods being under-insulated, so I figured I would have them come down and do an energy audit. During the energy audit, Xavier opened the hatch to the knee-walls and there was barely any insulation! So we had the knee-walls insulated, floor joist gaps sealed, cellulose blown in, and the hatch insulated and sealed. The attic had about 6 inches of rock wool /glass insulation and there was a one foot gap around the chimney. So we had the attic air leaks sealed, chimney gap sealed, cellulose blown in 18"-20", and the attic hatch insulated and sealed. Since the upstairs did not seem to get much airflow from the furnace, we had the duct-work cleaned and Aeroseal Duct Sealing performed on the original duct-work.

Insulwise was came very highly recommended by our neighbor. I called Andy Haak who scheduled an appointment at a convenient time. Xavier their salesman came and took the measurements and explained the options and the cost. He also provided brochures explaining how their system worked and patiently answered all my questions. The work was scheduled for a week later. A two member crew showed up as promised, did the insulation work and cleaned up very professionally after the job was done. I would definitely hire insulwise again.

Extremely Satisfied Customer! I'm writing this review 7 years after we had our home retro-fitted with insulation by Andrew Haak and Insulwise Energy Comfort Solutions. This was, and continues to be,one of the best investments my wife and I have ever made! We purchased a 1500 square ft brick home that needed a little TLC in the spring of 2005. My wife and I immediately took on some projects to increase the efficiency of our home (new windows, fiberglass insulation in the attic, new weather-stripping on the doors etc); however, after our first winter, it was painfully evident that we had to upgrade the energy efficiency of our home as monthly gas bills for our small house hit the mid $300's for January and February. It seemed as if our furnace was constantly running, walls were always cold and the house felt very drafty. Insulwise to the rescue! We chose Insulwise because of their professionalism and expertise. The other companies we vetted were "nice guys" but I got the feeling their methods were very outdated compared Insulwise. Andrew and his team took the time to educate my wife and I on why our house was so inefficient, and what he and his team were going to do to fix the problem. Insulwise retro-fitted our home with insulation in our attic, and the walls on the first and second floor. They also buttoned up other areas that are notorious for energy leakage such as our rim joist, attic access and cold air returns. The crew was friendly, clean and worked hard to make sure we were inconvenienced as little as possible during the installation. The result of Insulwise's work has been amazing! Our walls no longer feel like they are frozen in the winter and our furnace went from constantly running to running at what I would say is normal for a house our size, in fact, we usually don't even turn on our furnace until November whereas before my wife would turn it on mid September. Our house is cooler in the summertime and as an added bonus, our house seems like its quieter (maybe a result of the sound deadening quality from the insulation). Last but not least, our energy savings was incredible. After doing a retrospective review of my gas bills I estimate that Insulwise has cut our energy costs by 35% on an annual basis. The investment paid for itself within two years! If you are someone that believes your home is one of your greatest investments then using these guys is a no-brainer!

Very well. The team knew I was looking to get the service done asap so they came out while in the area within a week. The crew worked well past 5pm to finish. Knowing I was going to turn the space into a functional storage space. They turned the door into a functional vent with hinges. They did this all because they saw the material I purchased to do it myself. Very happy with the finished product!

The team did a great job. The main job was to seal the duct work throughout the house via their machine, and they also insulated a duct exposed in the garage. The team was very thorough, and using the computer we watched as the amount of leakage went down significantly. Along the way, they found that a duct was completely disconnected in the ceiling of our basement. They reattached that and continued the sealing process. There was a very noticeable difference in the amount of air reaching the second floor, now that air isn't seeping out all the seams in the duct work. Highly recommended! Two years later... the difference is incredible! I can't imagine how much money we were wasting before.

Andy Haak (President) and Xavier visited our house (free of charge) to check things out to determine if Aeroseal was the solution for our problem. They actually spent a few hours measuring air flow, doing visual inspection, etc. It was measuring an extremely high leakage, but Andy was confident that Aeroseal could solve the problem. He advised that the abnormally high leakage usually indicates a disconnect, and that any extra duct work has an hourly charge. The next day, Andy sent a quote via email, and we scheduled the service. Andy and crew showed up promptly that morning and began the work. After sealing all the ducts and wrapping the garage duct with insulation , they started the Aeroseal equipment to seal the ducts. The equipment measures leakage as it works, so you could actually see the improvement. At some point, the leakage was no longer decreasing. It had improved a lot, but Andy said it was not to the level that it should be. After looking around, Andy suspected there was a disconnect in our basement's ceiling, which ending up being true. They fixed the connection, and started up the Aeroseal equipment again. The air leakage went down quickly and dramatically. Andy's team provided a printout of the whole process, showing the original leakage and final leakage. The real surprise was when we went upstairs after they left. Cold air was BLOWING out of the vents. In fact, the second floor got too cold, because we hadn't reopened our first floow registers. All in all, it was an amazing difference. I can't believe we lived as we did for so long. Andy and his team were kind and professional, and I feel the service was a good value. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: We live in a two story home with the furnace in the basement. There was extremely little airflow coming out of the upstairs registers (about the force of breathing) , even with the downstairs registers closed. I had seen Aeroseal on the Internet some time ago as a way to seal existing duct work. A search of Angie's List turned up Insulwise. We also needed the supply duct in the garage to be wrapped with insulation.

The communications and service were friendly and professional. During the initial house visit, Insulwise generated a number of options for insulating subsystems such as the walls and the roof. We opted for insulating a specific portion of the house as a phase I of potentially insulating the whole house at a later date. The crew arrived on time and didn't waste time; everything was done within half a day, and the debris was well cleaned up. It was a very positive experience.
Description of Work: Insulwise were recommended to us by an energy audit company. The main selling point was that they installed a quality product (high-density blown-in insulation) that stood out from competition.

I contacted Insulwise on advice from a friend. Xavier came out and performed an energy audit on my home free of cost. They did a test called a blower door where he was able to show me where outside air was leaking into my home and vice versa and explained why that was a problem. This was something the other guys didn't do. He was also able to test my walls and confirm that there was almost no insulation in them in addition to showing me that my attic only had about half as much insulation as was currently recommended. Lastly he looked at my ductwork and had me feel where the air was leaking out of the seams, the extent of which surprised me. When he was done with the audit he showed me the results and printed out options for doing the work right then and there. I was happy he didn't try and pressure me at all and was happy to answer every question I could come up with. I ended up deciding to have my walls and attic insulated and get my ductwork cleaned and sealed. On the day of the install the team showed up on time and laid drop clothes on my floors to keep from getting them dirty. The first day they sealed the holes in my attic floor that Xavier had pointed out, built a sturdy raised storage platform around my attic access, and then blew in much more cellulose insulation. The second day they did the exterior walls. They placed drop clothes all around the walls (and plastic ones over all of furniture), drilled the holes, used a long tube to inject the insulation, filled the holes with some kind of spackling or plaster, and then did a great job vacuuming up before they left. Xavier told me how big an impact doing the work would make, but I was honestly surprised how big a difference I could feel that first night. One of my neighbors has a dog that never stops barking, and after the work was I could barely hear him! Yay! The last day they came to clean and seal the ducts. This was done with their aeroseal product which was quite interesting. After cleaning the ducts they set up the aeroseal equipment which injected a mist into the ductwork. It took about an hour to seal everything, but they printed me a form at the end showing that 92% of the leakage in my ductwork had been sealed. The proof was in the pudding and I could feel much stronger air flow coming from registers in my house that had previously pushed out very little air. My master bedroom was immediately cooler than it ever had been before! On the whole the Insulwise team did a great job. They'd come highly recommended and did not disappoint. They even did a follow up blower test showing that the air sealing work they'd done had lowered the air leakage rate by 32%. We had a bit of a heat wave toward the end of the summer and I simply couldn't believe how much less my air conditioner had to run to keep the house cool. If you want the best option for insulating your house, don't hesitate to call Insulwise!
Description of Work: I moved into a 1960 ranch during 2015. During that first summer I noticed that the AC ran constantly on hot days, and didn't do a good job of cooling the house at that. Then during the winter it was the same with the furnace, and there were also some melt spots on the roof which told me something wasn't right. The attic had some pink stuff between the rafters, but it didn't seem to be doing the job. I honestly wasn't sure what needed done, but suspected the insulation could be better.

They were great. The most expensive part was the raised platform but it provides so much storage space in the attic! Worth every penny!
Description of Work: Attic insulation and building of a raised plywood storage platform in the attic, spray foam in the joists in the basement ceiling where the cement block meets the joists, ceiling areas of leakage in the ductwork.

So glad we hired Andy and his crew! From the first consultation and energy audit to the final installation, Insulwise was top notch. They were a bit more expensive than some of the other quotes we got, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for and Insulwise certainly did not disappoint. The fact that the owner of the company personally came out to help with the job says a lot in my book. It's been a couple of weeks since the work was done and we couldn't be happier! The A/C isn't running non-stop like it used to be and the house is much more comfortable now. Thanks Andy and the whole Insulwise crew!
Description of Work: - Air sealing and blown insulation in Attic - Building of storage platform over insulation - Venting of bathroom fans to outside - Removal of old whole-house fan
