Although my house isn't particularly large, there are quite a few dormers and angles on the roof. A majority of the main roof and garage roof had 90+ year old slate. A porch roof had an old asphalt roof (it was determined later to have two layers on top of a copper roof. (they even found parts of an old screen door that was used for patching the roof!). The house had box gutters that were leaking and not proper depth causing a lot of water to run over the roof. The eaves and fascia in particular in the back and side of the house was in poor condition and sagging. We had to have the fascia cut back part of the way which actually improved the look of the house. The old roof was removed in stages. They set up a very nice slide in front and my wife hardly noticed them dumping slate into the chute. They spent a lot of time doing carpentry where in places they had to replace/repair parts of the eaves and fascia. Basically they rebuilt good parts of the this and spent a lot of time doing it right. The job lasted about 2 1/2 weeks. The crew led by Todd the foreman were amazing. They were skilled, and in all that time, minimized the downtime. We commented that they rarely took breaks and there wasn't a lot of standing around and joking. Each and every day they cleaned up better then they arrived. They were friendly and accommodating to with my dog. You could tell they cared about their work and they communicated ideas that improved the project. They were perfectionist, truly. We couldn't be happier with the company. I had bid this with three companies and awarded it to them even if they were slightly higher because they articulated well and were upfront and the execution in the end proved this. This was an expensive job, and they put their heart and soul into their work. You never think of roofers doing this but this crew and in partiular the foreman have worked together a long time. When you have a guy working for you well north of a decade in this business - that's a good thing. We got the "A" team for sure. Payment was made in thirds given the high price of the project. Anticipate your roofing needs in advance of needing it down ASAP so you have time to talk to contractors and get on the schedule of those most in demand due to their good work. A lot of roofers tried to bid low but the detail wasn't there and it would be a "slap" job.

It took about 6 days with 4 - 6 workers. Paul let me know about problems once old roof was removed, which did add to the cost. However, I was warned ahead of time that this might be the case. Started when they said that they would. Very professionally done.

The work was done in a timely manner and as far as I can tell, done correctly. My house is tall with a complicated roof, so I can not really see all of it, but what I see looks good. I did have several questions for Paul and was seeking his advice on some additional issues beyond the gutters and loose shingles. It is a time of year when it is difficult to get Paul on the phone, because if the weather is good, he's on a roof somewhere! I left several detailed voicemail messages with my questions, both before and after the work was completed. I requested followup and was hopeful that some information could have been gathered while the workers were on the roof. I have never received any followup to my questions or direction about what needs to be done to fix the additional problems. I am left wondering if this is beyond the scope of this business, or if they just did not have time to assess the problem. I have used Paul before for roof repair, and anticipate using him again. But I am disappointed that I have not received assistance with my additional questions. 5.23.2014 UPDATE: upon receiving my Angie's List review, Paul called me and we were able to clarify/discuss my questions when we connected today.

Paul Hoolahan from Hoolahan Roofing & Remodeling Co. Inc. came to my home first to give me an estimate on an entire new main roof and lower roofs on front, back, right side and small area above garage door. The work was done during the week of May 12, 2014. His crew arrived promptly and began working on removing all existing asphalt singles, felt paper, chimney flashings, wall flashings, vent pipe flashings, and roof vent from main roof. Todd and his men closed off holes where old roof vents were removed during the process, and cut opening along ridge for ridge vents. They checked wood sheathing and re-nailed were it was found as needed. Installed one row of GAF Weather Watch leak barrier along bottom row of main roof and lower roofs. Covered remainder of roof vents with GAF Tiger Paw shingle underlayment. Installed new GAF Timberline HD lifetime dimensional asphalt-fiberglass shingles. Installed GAF Snow Country vinyl ridge vents. Installed Timbertex hip and ridge shingles over top of ridge vents. Crew cleaned out all gutters on house. They were also very efficient in cleaning up all debris from the roofing job and hauled away. They answered any questions that I had during the process. I did have Hoolahan Roofing come to my home in the past just for on-going gutter cleaning for maintenance, but have not had them for total care of my home. I would recommend Hoolahan Roofing to any individual as a reference for roofing. They are a company that follows the work thru until completion and have a high degree of professionalism. We were very pleased with our experience with Hoolahan. Paul came out himself to evaluate the project and came back within a few days with a bid. He was honest when he was here about where we were in the schedule (about 10 weeks out, near Thanksgiving time), and said that we would probably be one of the last jobs of the year. He was professional, courteous, and didn't talk down to me as some of the other bidders did. The weather turned bad early and so we did not get the job started until spring. Our only even remotely negative comment would be that we didn't hear from them to let us know that we were still on their calendar, but when we called to inquire, we received very kind & positive assurances that as soon as the weather permitted, they would get started. Overall they did respond very quickly to phone calls and voice mails. We received about a week's notice that they would begin. Paul came out on the first day to introduce me to his crew chief (his nephew) and for the three of us to review the project so that we were all on the same page. The crew was terrific, they kept the job site clean, didn't play loud music, and cleaned up the yard & driveway entirely, and removed all materials. All the work was completed within two days. It was nice that they came out and did the entire job from start to finish (and that the weather cooperated). Paul came out to evaluate the completed work, and after we discussed one question, did a small additional component himself that was not part of the original agreement at no additional charge. We couldn't be happier and would recommend having Hoolahan bid on your project.

Heavy storm caused gutters on back of house to fall off. He was understandably backlogged, but both the office manager and Paul were open about scheduling estimates and didn't give me the run around or continually slipping dates. The estimate process was incredibly easy, absolutely no pressure for upgrades or upsell. It wasn't a huge job, so I gave them an open invitation to come whenever they found the time, no notice required. When they did the work, I actually didn't even realize until the next day - there was no debris, trampled plants, ladder holes, or any other sign that they had been there.

It was great. Mr Hoolahan was professional, punctual and coordinated the roof work with our necessary chimney repairs. It could not have been a better experience. I am sure we will be calling him again.

They did a good job. I thought they were a little expensive, but I am happy with their work. We had to wait because they were pretty booked up, but they were completely up-front about it, which I appreciated. I would use them again.

Paul Hoolahan and his crew were outstanding. The crew was punctual, amazingly quiet for roof work, did a beautiful job, and left the work area looking like nothing was going on, tidy and cleaner than before they started. No problems or issues whatsoever. Pleasure to work with. The roofs are very nice looking.

Absolutely first rate job. Very conscientious and professional. Paul and his team even re-built the wooden frame for our basketball hoop backboard and re-attached the backboard to the garage roof.

Paul Hoolihan and his crew were fabulous throughout the process. Paul met with me in the spring to review the scope of work and prepare an estimate. He was upfront about the timeframe for scheduling the job, contacted me as we got close and did the work when he said it was going to be done. His 5 member crew were at my house when they said they were going to be. They were friendly and professional. Roofing is messy work and they cleaned up every day before they left. The job took a week (as Paul told me it would) and you wouldn't know that they had been all through my yard getting access to the roof. They worked around my plants and shrubbery and everything was in the same condition as when they began - except for a huge bees nest by my outside faucet which they kindly took care of for me!!! The crew brought their own water and beverages. They just needed access to outdoor electricity and water. They answered all my questions but worked very well autonomously. If it weren't for the noise of the work beind done, I wouldn't have known they were here. They checked in with me everyday and were kind to my dog who barked at them non-stop for 6 days.

In one day Paul and his crew arrived and completed the removal of the old deteriorated flat rubber roof, insulation and membrane covering the den area that extends out from the house. They installed a new rubber roof with insulation. They removed the old gutters and downspout and replaced them with new ones. They removed the old wrap around the chimney and replaced it with new rubber, sealing the corners and fastening the top of the rubber to the chimney with a metal termination bar. They installed a connection from the drain spot to a new rain barrel we purchased. We thought the whole process would take a couple days to complete, but they finished the job by 6:00 pm in just one day. The roof looks fantastic. The operation was very professional and well done. We were very pleased and highly recommend Hoolahan to anyone.

So far, so good - no leaks, and that is what counts. We've had several large storms recently and the flashing has not leaked, which was the reason for the service in the first place. The flashing was replaced in 3 days spread out over about 1.5 weeks. It was replaced in such a way that it wouldn't leak if it rained between service days. Although I was apprehensive about this, it rained hard during the installation and the original leaks stayed dry, which is all that mattered. I had two chimneys step and counter-flashed, and a saddle/cricket (connects the roof to the chimney) replaced. I believe the original mortar cuts were kept, and the entire thing was re-caulked. I'm fairly handy, but I didn't want to risk working on the roof because we're high up, over concrete, and it has a steep pitch. However, I did get out there to inspect the work and it looked very good. The estimate was fairly detailed b/c during the original appointment Mr. Hoolahan got out on the roof and actually looked at the problem areas, took photos, etc. This may seem normal, but another local company paid a visit and the person responsible for making the estimate never went on the roof, never visually inspected the problem areas, and came back with an estimate 3x the price, recommending expensive finishes that were unnecessary. That person was also unwilling to detail any of the work that would be performed, and "couldn't" give me a breakdown on the price. It was an easy decision to choose Hoolahan Roofing. My initial estimate from Hoolahan Roofing contained some additional work, but they were accommodating in adjusting the scope of the work so that I could get the critical piece done.

They are a busy firm, so it took me some time to be able to get an appointment. Once we got it going they fixed things in one day and under the original estimated price. They had worked for me in the past and done a very good job. Again, they are busy and they do not get back immediately for the initial query.

They came out pretty quickly to give us an estimate - very professional. He provided pictures on his phone to show the broken tiles. I thought we needed new flashing around the chimney, but he said it would just need a little sealing. It took 3 months to get the work done, but they were very upfront about the time wait. I was informed it would probably be a 3 mon. wait and it was alittle less than that.

Again, the experience was positive but the estimate was just too high.

Can't say enough about this company, Ihad a leak in my tile roof which caused damage to both the ceilings in my bedroom and garage. Part of the bedroom ceiling fell in and the next day we were going to have rain. There is no way you can protect or cover a tile roof, So after inspecting the roof and consulting with the insurance agent, matching tile was found and the roof was repaired before the rain came.8

Paul and his crew replaced our entire roof within 3 days. They used Owen's Corning Duration Lifetime shingles, which are highly ranked and guaranteed for life, and are also very beautiful. Most importantly, Paul was extremely professional. He promptly replied to our request for an estimate and provided us with a detailed written estimate and brochures within days. We were able to schedule the roof replacement in a timely manner. Paul's crew was here on time every day. They worked efficiently and cleaned up everything at the end of each day. During the work, they found that our chimney needed some minor work and Paul was able to subcontract the work on the same day. They even went above and beyond by doing some repair on a downspout and our water storage container and nailing in some nails on our deck that had popped up at no extra charge. When they were done, there was absolutely no sign that they had ever been here with the exception of our beautiful roof. Everyone was friendly and respectful at all times. We will definitely use them again if needed.

Excellent ! I got an estimate from many roofing companies. Hoolahan Roofing gave the best estimate for the work that really needed to be done. Other companies wanted to do unnecessary work in addition to what needed to be done. The crew was great! They were able to finish in one day ! They cleaned everything up, was pleasant and professional. I would definately call them again for any roofing or gutter needs ! They are a great bunch of guys !!

Paul and his crew were great start to finish. We had a significant roof leak, and Hoolahan was the only company of the 4 we had called for estimates that actually found the cause. His guys did nice work, were respectful, and were here when they said they would be. The leak is fixed, and everything else they were to repair was completed and is correct. They found several minor problems during the job and fixed those as well. Would hire again for sure.

The Hoolahan team was great! They were on time, courteous, friendly and went above and beyond in completing the job they proposed. Will definitely be calling them in the future for roofing/gutter needs.

They did an excellent job; told me things about the roof no one else mentioned. They did not rush the job and did it right, using quality material and quality craftsmanship. John's crew was professional and polite. Highly recommend them.
