Furko Construction

Mr. Furko promptly responded to my inquiry for an estimate, and promptly provided an estimate. Sadly I found this to be uncommon, as several contractors did not return my calls or respond to my emails. Once I agreed to the estimate that was provided, my job was placed in a queue and I was told that the he would get to as the weather permits before the end of the summer. I remember receiving a call on a Tuesday morning confirming that he could send someone to do my job the next day a Wednesday. I was not thrilled with the short notice, but I agreed and was able to pull some strings to get a day off on short notice. I remember calling Mr. Furko and leaving a voicemail for him that Tuesday evening confirming that I would home the next morning (Wednesday) for his crew to perform the job. Unfortunately, no one showed up at the specified time which prompted me to call Mr. Furko and ask for an explanation. I received a prompt return call advising that his crew member who was supposed to perform the work I requested did not show up for work. He did pull two others off another job after I did communicate my displeasure about taking a day off of work on short notice only to have no one show up. Two men arrived roughly 20 minutes after my phone conversation with Mr. Furko. They were not briefed on what I wanted, so I explained what I wanted done and communicated what was on the estimate I received. After the two men surveyed what needed to be done and what tools, equipment, and supplies that they would need, Mr. Furko came and offered an apology in person. I did also overhear a conversation he had on his cell phone where he became agitated and told the person on the other end that if he can arrive but cannot do the job, then he had no need for him. I made an assumption that this was the person who was originally supposed to perform the work I requested. I do not enjoy getting people in trouble at their jobs, but at the same time I took a day off of work and I expected someone to arrive as agreed since I am paying for the work to be done. After the rough start, the two men got to work and performed all of the work I requested. These men were what I expected of a general contractor, they were a jack of all trades. They performed the carpentry, placed the sheet metal over the woodwork on the front door (which I believe is called flashing) and painted it. The sheet metal was the key piece that I wanted done, so that it would protect the wood from rotting. Once they were done painting, the area looked as if it had been there for years, which was the effect I wanted, so that I would match the front of the house. They also performed a side job. They climbed up on a ladder two and a half stories and placed some sheet metal over top of a piece of siding that was no longer as tight against the side brick wall the roof. Once the sheet metal was painted, and caulking was placed around the sheet metal, the area was sealed as I requested. This area also matches the rest of the house and appears as though it has always been there. One would have to perform a close inspection to see where the recent work was done when compared with the rest of the house that is over 50 years old. I admit I was not happy with the rough start, but I appreciated his responsiveness. The men he sent to perform the work did a good job even though they were expecting to be on another job that day and were not prepared for my job. I will contact Furko Construction again in the future as I imagine that I will be in need of his services next summer.

It was such a nice experience! I hired Furko to upgrade my kitchen and I am so happy with the results. I had them do various things such as electrical work, tile work, painting, flooring, and some backsplash work. He had a great team of workers and they were very polite and cleaned up behind themselves. I appreciated that he gave me a free and fair estimate for the work and the price that I paid for everything was reasonable. He was very accommodating to any changes that I made and was very patient with me. I would definitely use them again.

My husband said he first wants to see them put in a skylight to see how they work before we offer the job to them. We gave them the OK. Th guys are hard working an they are polite. They do great work and clean up after themselves.

The owner was out a few times because we first thought the problem was something other than what it was (we thought the gutter needed to be resealed but it really was not level and leaning slightly away from the downspout). I thought the amount we paid was a little bit on the high side for what was done, but on the same time we had a hard time getting anyone to even come out to look at such a small job so I understand that aspect. It took 2 guys one hour to complete. We thought someone was coming closer to 8 am but because it had snowed (at the end of March!!) just assumed they couldn't do the work that day. The workers showed up around 10 am as we were heading to the grocery store. Rather than stay there while we were out, they came back about an hour later and were waiting for us when we got back. They fixed it right away. I appreciated that the crew worked on a Sunday as well as we had preferred to have someone home to explain the issue in detail. My husband did a lot of the contacting but he said he was impressed with the service in that aspect of it as well. All in all, so far so good! Let's just hope that it finally, finally stops the gutter from leaking!

Be very careful with this contractor

Doug answered my call promptly. His estimate was very reasonable and his price was good (including material) hence we decided to let him do the job without consulting others for an estimate. We had a 2 story entryway and decided we wanted to close it off in order to add extra living space upstairs. After day 2 they said the job was finished but we noticed a few minor flaws in the drywall and flooring and informed Doug. He addressed the issues immediately and came right back with his crew and fixed everything to our satisfaction. Crew cleaned up after every job and were all very polite and professional. They came and finished everything in 3 days. Men were very responsive and we are very pleased with the overall experience.

I was very pleased with Furko Construction. Doug returned my calls promptly and came out to give me an estimate a couple days after we spoke. He had good ideas as to how to handle the project that other contractors I spoke with did not have. His price estimate was reasonable, and the actual price was no higher than the estimate. His crew worked very quickly and efficiently and completed the job quicker than I expected. They were on time and polite. I would certainly use Furko Construction again. I purchased the materials, and the $1000 price was just for labor, which I thought was fair for the amount of work they did.

They were great. They did interior painting and water damage. They also did some roofing for us too. I liked the owner and the staff they had. They did a great job. They were here for about a week and they showed up on time every day. They also had very good cleanup every day after they left. We heard about them from Angie’s List.

Prompt, professional, careful, responsible, responsive. Demolition was completed as described and on schedule. Doug's employees were friendly and easy to communicate with.

Mr. Furko's Construction team started work each day at 7:00 am every morning. They were never late. Starting date was Wednesday, October 9th to Friday, October 11th. His team worked very hard removing the 2 layers of shingles. They showed great professionalism and cleaned up all around my home and driveway. Mr. Furko's Construction team were very pleasant to talk to, they answered all my questions I asked, very nice guys. One problem did arise, I had ordered my roof to be replaced with dimensional shingles, but the standard shingles were delivered in error. My roof was 3/4 completed before we realized it. Mr. Furko deducted monies from the original total. All in all, they did a great job on my new roof and I was completely satisfied.

The owner was professional and provided a good price. He followed through with the suggested schedule. However, the work as a neighbor suggested is not good except for the painting of my shudders. A neighbor rang my bell asking how did I like the work? I told him and his wife look around the door frame. They were suppose to scrape before painting - the worker did not do that. I asked him about it he said he did. My neighbor called it shoty work. From a distance it looks good close up it looks poor. The power wash did not clean the bricks. I am not sure why perhaps they just could not remove it all. I don't know. The hillside right after a heavy rain washed down. I called Doug he told me that was from the heavy rain we just had. Well that was the purpose to build the ground up so that it would not wash down. He was working on another job at the time Friday and said that he would call Saturday. He called Monday night. I have not returned the call. I have hired someone else to take care of the driveway for me. I cannot afford not to have it repaired correctly. After his workers finished the job he never followed through with me to see how things went. I suspect because I am a single female alone that my job did not really matter. I did not and will recommend this company to anyone.

It didn't go. After three attempts to get them to come look and quote the job I gave up on them and went with someone not listed on Angie's List. So far your service has not been worth the expense.

Very productive two workers covered a lot of territory in eight hours. Impressed with how hard they worked to get everything done. I really appreciated them staining the floor of my house. Although it is like painting it probably was not a standard request and they did not hesitate and did an excellent job.

He said it was tilted improperly. He replaced it. We also had a piece of siding that came loose and it was rotting. He replaced that. He also told us that our shingles were too long over the gutters. He does not recommend cutting them back but he gave us information on a product that will help. He was prompt in his work. After the estimate he came back soon to do the work. We were satisfied.

They came right away and completed the repair right away. I would highly recommend them.

The quality of his work was very good and I would rate him highly. He was very professional and did things in a very timely fashion. It was all very fair and everything he did was well. The porch had become more involved and he should me how the problem was underlined which I did not know about. I would use him again in the future.

The project took longer than anticipated because of problems with the material order. Doug was responsive to our calls and kept us informed of the progress of the order. Certain things had to be changed during the process of the work however, Doug has a skillful work team and was able to work out the difficult problems. We were 85% pleased with the outcome.

I have all the confidence in the world in him and I think I'm going to be very pleased with the finished product... I have an old house and I intend to use him for other stuff too. As of now 6/11/13 were still here. The roof took more than either one of us expected. Everywhere they tried to go they had to replace wood or something else. Plus I had a broken breather pipe on the one side and the poor guy had to come clear up to the third floor, then crawl into a small cubby hole to get to it. And of course you know he was the tallest one of the bunch. I like these guys. They are neat and clean up after every day. They are doing things that weren't on the list and I am really impressed. The one man is painting the windows on the third floor, these are those small square windows. I didn't expect that, I thought I would have to hire someone after they were done. Unless you would have seen the house before they came and now you would never know how different it is turning out. These guys are really good and anyone would be extremely pleased with their work.... I know that this is their busy season, but it was worth the wait to have them here... ...

Time was of the essence because the house has been sold and the work needed doing was in response to an inspection. The whole crew was professional and worked hard and fast. Couldn't ask for better people.

The work completed was not always completed to par and had to be redone in several areas, especially the exterior painting. I had to leave work and check up on the work to ensure the work was done appropriately. I felt the work was rushed and they wished to move onto their next job. I think they underestimated the time requirements for this job.

I asked several roofers for bids and Furko Construction was among the lower priced bids to replace the entire roof including tearing off the old roof. Our roof is steeply pitched. Thru the bid process, I was educated on the various roofing features that added quality within my budget. Things using 30 lb felt instead of 15 lb felt, ice/water shield on all eves & in all valleys and around chimneys, drip edge on every rake and eave of the roof, etc. Mr. Furko was very flexible on providing what I wanted and we wrote down our agreement, both signed it and Mr. Furko scheduled the work. As the start day approached, he called me ahead of time, arrived when he said he would and finished the job as he said he would. It was all professional and easy (for me). We feel that we received good value, Mr. Furko used Owens Corning lifetime shingles and gave a generous labor warrantee. Mr. Furko sent me the Owens Corning paperwork so that I could register for the shingle warrantee. All-in-all good price, good installation as far as I can tell - I would recommend Furko Construction and I will use them again for the other services that they provide. Update 10 months after initial installation. A few singles blew off of a roof peak, which Furko Construction replaced soon after I informed Mr. Furko. My gutters at the back of the house were overflowing so I called someone to clean them (the roof is 40+ ft high). The clog was nails and pieces of broken shingles. I was disappointed that this material was not sufficiently cleaned up during the initial installation

Douglas Furko came on time to give an estimate. Explained everything that needed to be done and how he was going to do the job. He left emailed me a written estimate. He explained on the estimate exactly what he was going to do. I called him to ask questions in regards of supplies that I did not know the names. He was patient and explained what they were and why he needed them. I called him two weeks later to schedule for the work to be done. He came on time with two additional men to help do the work. The job was completed in 4 1/2 hrs. Doug explained what he had done and let me know that it would pass housing inspection. The job area was cleaned and free of debris. I would have Furko Construction do work for me again.

There were a few challenges but Mr. Furko was willing to review options and accommodated the directions provided by a structural engineer. The staff cleaned up after themselves and respected the property and furnishings. Mr. Furko was very professional in letting one know if he was on the way or would be late and why. Mr. Furko would also call me get back in a timely fashion whenever I left a message on his phone. He is very conscientious, pleasant and respectful.

They were professional and accommodating. They were on time. Drop clothes were put down. It did make a difference. I got my money's worth.
