Contacted him about removing a load bearing wall. He came out a few days later to check the job out. I was told he would give me an estimate in a few days. Two weeks later I received the estimate. There were a couple messages sent back and forth after this. I finally agreed to the project and was told he would come out again to check it out again because I wanted to adjust some aspects of the job. This was on Jan 2nd. I responded back and still haven't heard back from him so I decided to message him again on Jan 11. He responds back on Jan 17th saying that he can come over anytime this weekend or next week. I tell him any day is fine. Jan 29th he finally responds. I tell him I already have another company coming tomorrow to start the job. His reply " When in demand you're in demand". Okay? I never once asked him to start the job immediately. All I would of liked is a response back in a reasonable amount of time. I would not recommend this company.

I wish I had before and after pictures instead of just finished product. He took a dark basement in an old house and created a wonderful living space. He used quality products and did things that were unexpected, like polishing the existing concrete floors to make them contemporary and beautiful. He soundproofed the ceiling to the point that I have yet to hear a noise coming from the basement. He relocated the laundry room and made it compact and more functional. He helped me locate a display kitchen to use instead of purchasing a new one which saved me thousands. My poor photography does not do the space justice. He selected colors and came up with the idea of a knee wall in the existing glazed tile shower. He put in egress windows both for safety and for light. He moved so many wires and pipes from the ceiling, leaving only what pipers were necessary. He thought of every detail and did a stellar job. I cannot recommend him enough. Reading his reviews, I understand that he can sometimes be difficult to reach but once the project began he was dedicated to it. And as for the sometimes slow pace, I am completely willing to wait for this level of work.

Looking at the date during which this review is in regards to, I had been on vacation when the single attempt to contact me was made. I only take one, to week, vacation a year and unfortunately it happened to be when this call was made. August is typically a very busy time during which we get many of calls from potential clients for Wingard Contracting. Many people hold off calling till near summers end. Upon returning from vacation I was trust directly back into a project on hold and a back log of calls and contacts. I try very hard to return all calls I receive however as a small business owner who must wear many hats, unfortunately sometimes one gets missed. As someone who deals with many contractors all the time, both subcontracting for others and also hiring subcontractors to preform the more specific aspects of any given job, I know that I never know fully what is going on on the other end of the call. If I don't immediately hear back from someone I will call again. Unfortunately this call came at a time that my/our work load was very steep having just returned from vacation, back into the real world at a time that was very busy. I apologize for having missed the call. Any number of things could have happened to include having miss dialed. I always have and will continue make every effort to return all calls.

Eric showed up on time as scheduled to provide estimate. He seemed interested in the job. Replace patio roof, and pour stamped concrete patio approx 16' x 25'. He said he would get back to me in three to four days with an estimate. I have never heard back from him. I followed up with a text to let him know I have not received and estimate via e-mail as promised. No response. Don't waste your time with Eric!

Unfortunately this review is a response of a simple misspelled email address. We did eventually catch the mistake before becoming aware of this unfortunate review, however our timing in correcting the typo and resending was not soon enough to avoid such a negative remark. As someone who both sends many emails and who also waits for many emails in my line of work, I am aware that there are many reasons for a tarty email simple of which a typo. It is not an infrequent thing for a supplier, a subcontractor, or a potential client to misspell my email address or to have the email fully authored but sitting in their drafts box waiting to be sent. I am typically one to give the the benefit of the doubt and to call the person who's email I am awaiting just in case of a simple mistake such as this before judging. Once we had realized our mistake we did correct our spelling and send a full response, albeit two days too late. I apologize for the confusion and will make every effort to avoid such mistakes in the future.

The steps are exactly what I wanted in terms of function and the design/materials create a wonderful statement. Erik is an artist and he's a great person to work with.

Overall, the whole project went very well. Erik's estimate and proposal was the best of the 4 I collected. Previously, I had the walls drywalled & insulated and radiator heat installed. The house was built in 1929 and we did have the "Pittsburgh toilet" tucked in a corner. I wanted a full bath installed around the toilet, a finished ceiling with recessed lighting, new floor (we had concrete), creation of a laundry area and a new paint job. Erik did a wonderful job designing the bathroom to fit in the space we had allotted to it. He and Braxton did all the demo on the bathroom area, breaking concrete, hauling out the old toilet, stationary tube, washer & dryer and removing old (original) pipes. After that, Erik acted as a general contractor and had a plumber, electrician, drywaller, painter and floor installer come at various times to do their respective jobs. I could not be more pleased with the result. A dark, damp and unattractive space is bright ,warm and welcoming. All of the independent contractors who came and worked were talented and expert. They showed up when they said they were going to and the work performed was extremely high quality, they cleaned up after themselves and left the area ready for the next person. Then, Erik & Braxton came in at the end to do the finish work - hanging doors, installing a new thermostat, installing baseboard , hooking up the new washer and dryer & installing a new hand rail. This is an old house and there were the old house problems - uneven floor, walls not plumb, old pipes. Erik worked with us on design issues, changing things when necessary. They also fixed my outside water faucet (which I had wanted to do for years) and that was an added bonus. My furnace was enclosed& Erik fixed those doors which had been broken for years. He had many good ideas about small design areas which added up to big impact & increased value to the space. 'The only issue was - in the contract we signed the work was supposed to take a month - actually the job stretched out over the entire summer . They started the beginning of June and didn't finish until the beginning of October. I believe much of the delay was because the plumber, who did a really good job, was very busy and a lot of the work was done around his schedule. Bottom line, Erik was affordable, talented, and even though the job took longer, we were very satisfied & pleased with the result, I would definitely recommend him & would use again.

The project went very well. Erik helped me choose the right fencing material, both privacy and decorative. He was very innovative in coming up with a gating solution around the patio. It is an awkward angle, but he made it work perfectly. He tied the privacy fence into some existing fence and made repairs to that fence. The removal of the old fence and the digging of the new posts was difficult, I think, in that the soil was very rocky. He suggested a stone wall since the grade was a bit steep between the privacy fence and the flagstone. As you can see from the photo, it is beautiful and matches the patio quite well. Erik has done many projects at my house and they have all turned out beautifully. He is also very busy so be patient in waiting for a call back, a proposal or to get on his schedule. It is well worth it.
Description of Work: Erik built a stone wall and a privacy fence. He also installed a decorative fence around my patio and did some other minor fence work. In the photos, the decorative fence is the black shorter black metal fence.

He removed the existing concrete and it ended up being was much thicker than expected. This proved to be no problem to him and his crew. It was excavated neatly and considerately, and the area was left in good condition at the end of each day. He framed the walk and was careful to blend the concretely asethetically into an adjoing brick walkway and other stairs that lead to the driveway. He even removed more bricks than was necessary on the sidewalk so that the transition was seamless. The next concrete matches the existing walls and stairs wonderfully. I am very pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: The past winter made my front walk and stairs absolutely disintegrate. Erik replaced the concrete. It's beautiful and perfect.

Wow I can't believe how rude this guy is. He came to my home to give me an estimate on converting hardwood stairs to carpet. I told him this was a job I needed done relatively soon and he said he would have a bid to me in a few days. After a week if not hearing anything I followed up with him- he asked me to take more measurements and said I would have a bid in the next 3 days. I should have known when I didn't hear from him that he wasn't reliable but he had great reviews and I was hoping he was just really busy. Once again I reach out and he's apologetic and tells me he's on vacation but will absolutely have a bid by the next day. A week later I have nothing. Have some consideration of other people's time. If he didn't want the job/it was too small/ out of his realm of expertise, he should have just said that instead of stringing me along for over 3 weeks and holding up the job. Totally unprofessional.

Amazing. With Erik's help, we got everything done beautifully. He is not my go-to guy for everything -- could not recommend enough
Description of Work: We decided to do a large renovation on our house, and while we wanted to do a lot of the work ourselves, we knew we would need a professional for the things like electricity and plumbing. Over the course of the project, Erik went above and beyond to not only do the big things we talked about beforehand, but also provide guidance on the other issues that invariably came up during the project.

He was professional, thorough, and I was happy with him. The only thing is I was not at home when he worked there. I don’t have much comment on his pricing but from what I talked with other people at work they say that they found it reasonable. I would use him again based on his service. But I don’t think it was the best price that I could have gotten I feel it was not good enough that I would not look around.

We called many contractors, and after taking a short look, the message was always the same: the whole bathroom floor would need to torn out to get to the pipe, and it'll cost many thousands of dollars. Erik, on the other hand, actually took a good hard look at the piping and determined that it could be fixed just through the access panel. He and his helper came and replaced all the drain piping in a day, and it worked! Erik was extremely thoughtful and creative throughout everything, and I plan to use him for many jobs this summer!

Overall experience was again wonderful. This is the second time I have used this contractor, although I am tardy in writing this review (third project prompted me to write it). Erik and his helper removed really ugly railroad ties and replaced them with poured concrete retaining walls. In association with the walls project, he installed a lamp post. He also did some other smaller concrete work that needed to be done. His work is meticulous and matched exactly the other wall I was trying to match. He stayed within budget and was responsive to any of my requests. I have an old house and all of the work he did matched the existing work very well. He is easy to work with and leaves the work area neat and clean every day. His prices are competitive and I felt I got more than my money's worth. I would be happy to be a reference for his work.

When I moved into my current home, I had all of the master bathroom replaced except the shower because it seemed to be fine. Well, it started leaking into the living room ceiling. Erik replaced it with an amazing new shower. The pictures tell the story. He had me work with Emerald Art Glass for a perfect shower door and did really creative things with the mosaic tile. I have a bench and a beautiful new shower that matches my existing bathroom. The plaster repair he did in the living room is flawless. Read my previous reviews on his work. He knows what he is doing, charges a fair prices, and the work is superior.

Our basement stairs were in very poor condition, there was inadequate lighting, and overall we felt they were dangerous. The stairs and supports were actually worse than we originally thought. We contacted Erik to replace them and add desperately needed lighting. He gave us an estimate and started working within a weeks time. Our stairs are now structurally safe with new support, safe treads, and great lighting. We were very pleased with the entire process. Erik gave us an estimate and got the entire job done in a week. He and his crew left our basement very clean and organized -- it is better than when he started work. The stairs are sturdy, safe, and well lit. Overall, we are very pleased with Erik and his work. We will definitely use him again.

When I initially contacted Erik, I had only a vague idea of what was needed to accomplish my remodeling goals. Erik spent a great deal of time answering questions, helping me decide exactly what I wanted, and how I could get the most for my money. His patience was endless. He had excellent, innovative design ideas for the space and a good grasp of working within a budget. Once work actually got under way, it became obvious that Erik makes an effort to keep himself current and was highly skilled in his field. He takes pride in his work and genuinely wants to please his clients. Definitely not an absentee contractor, Erik was on-site every day work was being performed and arranged for everything with no disruption to our household. He kept us informed with progress reports at the beginning and/or conclusion of each day. Whenever unexpected problems turned up (including a huge hornets nest behind the bedroom wall) he was able to deal with them quickly and effectively. He kept his work area clean, was on time and finished the job ahead of schedule. His work is meticulous. Equally as important to me ? Erik is an extremely nice person. He is soft-spoken, well-mannered and pleasant, as are his employees. He was respectful of our property and of our privacy, and left the house a lot cleaner than he found it. I felt no uneasiness in leaving home unattended while work was being performed. My project turned out even better than I thought it could be, and I hope to be utilizing Eric's expertise for all future contracting needs.
Description of Work: Remodeled a bedroom originally built as an addition to the house years ago, but was in very bad shape now. Work included demolition of everything down to the studs, installation of spray foam insulation in walls and ceiling, installation of drywall on both walls and ceiling, all finishing and painting, replacement of some flooring, electrical work, trim on baseboards and windows, including new windowsills.

We set up a date for an estimate with Erik, for a hearth area where a woodstove would be placed. He did not show up at our scheduled time, but was responsive after I called him. He ended up coming out that evening (Oct.31) to check out the space, just later than we had scheduled. He said he hadn't written it in his calendar because we had determined the date/time by text, not over the phone (in our initial conversation he suggested that I call back or text him with dates/times that could work, so I took him up on the text suggestion - to have a written record of our conversation). He was very thorough - stayed over an hour - and expected to have an estimate to us "in a week or so." He also asked for information on the woodstove we intend to purchase and design ideas for the hearth, which I sent him that night via email. When a week came and went, my husband called multiple times to see if we could expect an estimate soon. Eventually Erik returned a call and apologized. He said he was busy with other jobs and we would have it by that weekend (the 15th-16th of Nov.). This weekend (and another) have also come and gone and at this point he has been completely unresponsive to our phone calls, texts, and emails. We have been friendly, respectful, and brief in our communications, asking simply for him to let us know if and when we can expect an estimate. At this point we have given up hope of hearing back and are frustrated that we have lost a month of time for an obviously time-sensitive project. We liked Erik's ideas and had hoped to work with him but his professionalism and responsiveness are severely lacking. We have read many positive reviews of his work and would love to be able to report a similar experience. However, as the situation stands, we cannot advise working with him.

Response from Erik Wingard Contracting
Over the past few weeks we have been taking longer than typical to respond to potential works. We have been very busy putting all our resources into finishing a rather large project before the holidays for a client that has been very patient and a pleasure to work for. We have just come off of the busiest season of the past eight years and I have had a bit of tunnel vision in wanting to wrap up any/all ongoing projects, at times to the detriment of pursuing potential works. Ultimately an estimate was sent to the homeowner, as were estimates sent to all other potential clients/works I have been fortunate enough to meet with/go over the past few weeks, albeit not in as timely a fashion as would be expected. I apologize for the belated estimate, there is no excuse of it. I very much appreciate the any opportunity to be considered for a potential project. It is/was never my intention to squander a potential project with a tardy response.

It took him a while to give me the quote but he notified it to me during the process that it would take him longer than he had expected due to other things which he had going on. I thought it was a very professional and thorough quote. His quote was however significantly more expensive than the company I eventually chose. I however chose not to use him since I had received a better quote from another company.

I thought that Eric was very professional. Measured the entire floor and even brought in a craftsman to make the railing I wanted However, he was my third opinion as I do for all of my large home projects Personally, I think that he did not want to do the project. If this was the case then I would have prefer that he be honest. He sent a proposal to install the floor and railing for nearing 18,000 dollars. This number does include the railing so it would be 12,320 for labor alone. Then I would have to buy the flooring. This was the most expensive estimate I received by 3 times. I found two other contractors on Angies list to do the same job for under 4,200. 12,320 is too much for labor for flooring and railing installation for around 400 square feet.
Description of Work: - Contacted for Demo and dispose of existing handrail - remove existing stain glass - drywall over existing glass opening - install hardwood over hallway, into closets, and one bedroom. Approx 400 sq feet - install new stair tread - install new handrail which would need stained ( this was estimated to cost= 4980) for the hand rail materials

After seeing this review on Angie's List I went back and reviewed the informal emailed estimate I had sent (deleted member name). Unfortunately after taking another look I found that there was a typing error on the estimated cost. I try to be thorough and spell/grammar and content check all my emails however I do make errors on occasion. This is one of the reasons I urge most potential clients I meet to get second and third estimates. That and different contractors will have different efficiencies and therefore prices on particular tasks. It was not a question of whether or not I wanted the job, I would try to be clear upfront if the job is something I both have time for and would be able to do efficiently. Around the time I had met with (deleted member name) I was incredibly busy meeting with and providing estimates for many potential clients. In February alone I had provided over eighty estimates. Its easy to see how a typing error could occur. Had the high number been brought to my attention I would gladly have reviewed it and likely saw the error immediately. Truth is after sending the initial email proposal/estimate I have heard nothing else back from (deleted member name) until finding this review on Angie's List.

The job went very well. The flooring was installed well in an existing 100 year old home which made for many challenges during the install since nothing in older homes is ever square. When completely the flooring looks great and fits well around the existing fixtures for radiators and doors and staircases.

The final product of this work is great. Erik custom made two polished concrete hearths for my home based on dimensions of existing hearths. The previous hearths were hidden in existing flooring. Erik perfectly cut holes and removed the existing hearths from the floors then measured and created two polished concrete hearths to replace them. There were two new hearths were for two fireplaces on the first floor of my home. One was a raised hearth that sits above the floor and matches perfectly with a raised fireplace that existed there. The other was a hearth was installed flush with the existing flooring and fireplace. Both of these hearths look amazing and are installed well. They contrast well with the flooring Erik previously installed and they are an amazing complement to my home! After installing the hearths Erik also helped assemble a previously purchased slate mantle on top of the flush hearth going above and beyond what was expected for the job.

A home such as mine requires special care and expertize. He was more than up to the task. We worked side by side for a year and a half till all the work was complete. The project won not one, but two, awards from the American Institute of Architects, the first for its design and construction, and the second for its "green" qualities. This was the first time a house has EVER been thus rewarded here in the 'Burgh. It wouldn't have happened without Erik. Concrete counters and floors: Erik built all the formwork for the counters of the house himself, poured and polished the concrete, and then coordinated the install himself. To this day they look as good as the day he put them in. As well, he added a coloring agent to our first floor concrete slab as it was poured, and then hand-polished the rough finish till it reflected like glass. The concrete floors look great with area rugs, and the surface is waterproof, spill-resistant, relatively inexpensive, and only requires an occasional mopping to maintain its look. We owe the look of the floors to Erik's patience and attention to detail.

Erik and his crew have proven to me to have the the experience and knowledge to handle a complicated addition that involved a series of steps that are above those in a typical two story addition. My addition consisted of a great room with cathedral ceiling with multiple beam cuts and construction details, a basement/garage with a steel beam and cement driveway. While I am somewhat knowledgeable about construction techniques, may assessment of Erik's ability was reinforced by others who have many more years of experience in the construction field. In talking with the subcontractor who handled the foundation excavation, he remarked that with over 30 years in the business he was so impressed with Erik's knowledge that he asked Erik for advice about a problem that he was having with his own home. When the various building inspectors, foundation/electrical etc., toured the construction site there was one constant remark from all, about how well the project was being done Erik and his crew also went the extra step to make sure that not only was the contracted portion of the job done right but that they also handled other problems that arose which were not part of the original contract. I was impressed with Erik's ability to assess a situation and then come up with a solution the quickly and effectively solved the problem. His depth of knowledge is far beyond his young age. Erik, Brax, and Pat had to operate under some of the most severe weather conditions this winter. They were working in winter temperatures with rain/snow and wind chill factors below zero. i thought they were crazy but they showed up every day and did quality work in extreme circumstances. On top of doing the construction work they made every effort to keep the construction area clean and the impact of the dirt and dust to a minimum. As you might expect in the winter there was a lot of mud!! I am planning on having other work done this summer and the first person I will be contacting is Erik Wingard.

Contractor promised a bid within 3-4 days, and we never heard from him again - not even to let us know he wasn't able to take the job. Very unprofessional. UPDATE: Eric called and apololgized.
Description of Work: There were several small-to-midsize carpentry jobs, involving repair and remodeling.
