I've used them for 30 years. They're not cheap, but they're reliable. They always come when they say they will. I like them.
Description of Work: Don's Appliances fixed our garbage disposal. They removed marble from the disposal because I was afraid to put my hand down.

The scheduler called, as promised, the day before to give me the two-hour window during which to expect the repairman. He arrived within that window. He was competent, though somewhat whiny ("I hoped this would be an easy job," "why make it harder than it is"). He fixed the problem and made sure the unit was working as best it could. (Viking appliances are unreliable and they aren't well-designed, according to several different repairmen I've used. Be forewarned!) He did a good job, but I got tired of his attitude. It's a toss-up as to whether or not I'll ask Don's not to send him the next time -- maybe I can arrange to be out of the house when he comes, so that my repair gets done but I don't have to deal with him!

I contacted Dons Appliances and a sales person came out to our house to look at the built in trash compactor and Sub-Zero refrigerator. We had remodelled our kitchen several years earlier and expressed the need for a good and seemless installation of these appliances.He took measurements and told me that a replacement Sub-Zero refrigerator would fit perfectly with no additional trim. I was assured that he had a great deal of experience with replacing Sub-Zero refrigerators. We were told that 18 inch trash compactors were no longer available and that 15 inch models with the addition of stainless steel trim panels to fill in the gap would look good so we took his advice for this appliance. They requested $5,000 in advance and final payment once the appliances were delivered and installed. The appliances were delivered and installed approximately three weeks later. Unfortunately the trim panels for the trash compactor did not arrive and were not installed. In addition, the new refrigerator did not fit as the prior refrigerator did leaving a rough unfinished mitered edge on the paneling surrounding the refrigerator. I discussed with the sales person the incomplete and inadequate intallation of the appliances and was told that the trim for the trash compactor would be arriving in two weeks and that additional trim would be placed arround the refrigerator when they returned to provide a clean and neat appearance to the intallation. After not hearing from him for two weeks I called back and was told it could be several more weeks before they might be able to complete the installation. What is most irritating is that He charged the final payment for the appliances, including an installation fee with out any verbal or written approval on my part, and knowing full well that the parts order and final installation was incomplete and inadequate.
Description of Work: Removed built-in trash compactor and Sub-Zero refrigerator and replaced with JennAir and Sub-Zero refrigerator.

They delivered earlier than they had promised. The delivery and the installation were done without any problems at all. They were very professional. They took the time afterwards to go through each appliance with us. They showed us as to how operate and how to maintain them. I would recommend them and I would use their services again.

I went to Don's intending to purchase a washer and dryer. There weren't many visible on the display floor. I was leaning toward Whirlpool brand items, and there were only two on the floor. There was no price posted. The sales person left for a moment to get a booklet/catalog of some sort, and could not find the price in the catalog. She left again , presumably to look for the price and after my partner and I waited a minute or two for her, we left. I didn't get the impression they wanted to make a sale. We were leaning toward Whirlpool brand items but there was no initiative to show us any other models.
Description of Work: Washer/Dryer purchase.

Researched online and looked at several types of dishwashers. We found the Miele expensive, but expect it to last 15 - 20 years. Our last one lasted 12 years and was too expensive to repair. Don's was professional and installed the new dishwasher without a hitch.

I was very pleased. The salesman was knowledgeable. The stove was delivered promptly in good condition. They solved some installations problems with intelligence and creativity. My gas line was poorly located from a previous install, and they found a way to correct the problem so the stove sat back to the wall. They also took measurements for stainless steel backsplash, ordered it, returned in a few days and installed that. I was happy with the plumber and the other people I came in contact with during this process.

We purchased a new Dacor 36" range from Don's appliance at the home show. They patiently waited for us to get our kitchen prepared for the new large appliance. When asked to deliver our new range, they were able to schedule deliver in the same week. The range was perfect, dispite being a home show model. It was completely clean and all of the manuals and accessories were included. There was one small problem with one burner which they came out and fixed the next day that we were available.
Description of Work: 1. We purchased a new 36" range from Don's Appliance at the home show. 2. They had to come out to fix one small problem with one of the burners.

Dustin and Robert delivered the new freezer, helped me unload my food from the broken freezer, installed the new freezer, helped me load the food into the new freezer, then removed the old freezer. That, from sales to install, is an example of real service.
Description of Work: Our freezer stopped working and we were desperate for an immediate replacement. The "big" stores could only promise delivery in 4-5 days; which was unacceptable. One even suggested I rent a truck and install it myself. At Don's Appliances, Judy Galon said that they could deliver the next day and possibly the same day. 30-minutes after I left Don's, Judy called to say they would deliver; TODAY. Three hours later the new freezer was installed!

Don's was very professional and skilled. The service was prompt and reliable. I felt the pricing was about average; however, their removal and delivery fee was pretty steep therefore I probably would not use them again. Everything was done quickly though and there were no problems at all.
Description of Work: Don's sold me and installed a new wall oven and stove in my 3000 square foot home.

The guys who did the installation were wonderful and didn't cause any damage. The job required that they alter the space a bit to make the refrigerator fit, and they were wonderful.

THIS WAS AN UNSATISFACTORY EXPERIENCE FROM BEGINNING TO END.
Description of Work: MADE APPOINTMENT FOR 8/22/05 REPAIR OF SUB-ZERO ICE MAKER BASED ON POSITIVE REPORTS FROM YOUR MEMBERS. INEXPERIENCED SERVICE MAN WAS SENT TO WRONG ADDRESS AND ENTERED HOUSE WITH A NEW ICE MAKER IN HAND. I HAD ADVISED THEM THAT THE ICE MAKER WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, BUT HE INSTALLED THE NEW ONE WITHOUT ASKING ME. HE SAID HE WASN'T ADVISED THAT IT WAS NEW, AND THEN REINSTALLED THE OLD ONE. HE THEN CALLED HIS SHOP AND WAS TOLD TO REINSTALL THE NEW ONE AND IF IT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, REMOVE IT. HE TESTED THE NEW ONE, NOT THE PROBLEM, REMOVED IT AGAIN. HE THEN SAID IT WOULD TAKE TWO MEN TO REPLACE A SOLENOID. HE WOULD RETURN WITH AN EXPERIENCED REFRIGERATION MAN, AND HIS BOSS WOULD CALL TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT. WE NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN AND NEVER RECEIVED A BILL FOR THIS MESS.

THE REPAIRMAN WAS PROMPT AND STUCK TO IT UNTIL HE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM, WHICH WASN'T EVIDENT AT FIRST. HE WAS PLEASANT AND DIDN'T TRY TO SELL ME AN EXPENSIVE NEW PUMP. MY ONLY SURPRISE WAS THAT THE COMPANY TURNS OUT TO BE IN CANONSBURG, NOT PITTSBURGH, DESPITE THE ADDRESS THAT'S LISTED, SO TRAVEL COSTS TO MY SQUIRREL HILL ADDRESS MADE THE BILL QUITE A BIT HIGHER THAN I EXPECTED. FOR THIS REASON,I WOULDN'T HIRE THEM AGAIN.

SERVICE STAFF NOT PARTICULARLY KNOWLEDGEABLE -- HAD TO COME OUT MULTIPLE TIMES TO COMPLETE THE INSTALL. SEEMED TO HAVE TROUBLE FIGURING OUT WHAT PARTS THEY NEEDED FOR SIMPLE ISSUES: IT TOOK OVER 2 WEEKS TO FIND A LONGER DISCHARGE HOSE FOR MY MIELE DISHWASHER (ONE CALL TO THE MIELE SERVICE CENTER SHOULD HAVE RESOLVED THIS), AND 3 DIFFERENT TECHS CAME OUT WITH THE WRONG BRACKET TO INSTALL A CUSTOM PANEL ON THE DISHWASHER. THE THIRD TECH WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY THOUGHT TO CHECK THE MODEL NUMBER OF THE DISHWASHER.
