 + 0 moreVery quickly, considering the amount of work that was done. He removed all debris, did the Versa-lok tiered walls, laid the Omni-stone patio pavers, then laid the concrete slab. It is gorgeous &; totally functional. We have an average sized (they are small) Shadyside back yard. It asked for a price, but wouldn't accept the real price, so I just said $5000. I am attempting to add a picture. Anyone is welcome to see the work for yourself. It is beautiful
Description of Work: Our old multi-tiered landscape timbers were rotted, & the old patio was crumbling. David Allen completely replaced the back yard area with Omni-stone pavers & Versa-lok tiered walls. This resulted in multiple planting areas, & a lovely patio. He also replaced a cement pad close to the house

 + -1 moreI called and made an appointment for an estimate for a new retaining wall. He called that day, about 15-30 minutes before the appointment, to say he was stuck in traffic over an hour away. We set another date and time and he never even bothered to show up for that one.
Description of Work: Nothing -- never showed.

 + 0 moreI've been happy with his work and would recommend him to others. The only suggestion I have for improvement is that he gets an email address so it's easier to get in touch. However, when I call and leave a message he is good about returning calls.
Description of Work: I asked David Allen to return and do some more landscaping in my yard, digging out a lot of "weed trees and bushes", tilling areas of soil and adding mushroom manure so I could plant new beds, and putting in a rhododendron, four hydrangeas, and three more burning bushes. He came on time, did the job, and cleaned up afterward.

 + 0 moreDavid gave us an estimate and put us on his calendar once we agreed to the services. We needed some tree removal and David arranged for Jungle Jim to come in (and they did a great job too). Once the trees were gone, David started the work (earlier than expected) and finished within two weeks. He was very communicative and ran ideas by us throughout the job. David has good ideas, which was nice for us. We felt comfortable with him ironing out the details of the retaining wall and he built exactly what we needed. From start to finish, the job was top notch and professional.
Description of Work: Our backyard had not been landscaped ever and we needed an area for our kids to play. David cleared the yard and installed a versa-lok retaining wall in order to level the yard. He filled the area to decrease the grade. Once the wall was done, he cleared the area of rocks, leaves, roots, weeds, etc, laid top soil, and grass seed. He went out of his way to find the privacy bushes that we wanted and planted them. We went from not having a backyard at all to having a wonderful large space. All of our neighbors have commented on the wonderful job. We couldn't be more thrilled! Incidentally, when I first started pricing estimates, I had landscapers tell me that the job wasn't feasible. David was optimistic about the job from the start and gave us exactly what we wanted for our yard. We would strongly recommend him.

 + -1 moreDave did an excellent job on the retaining wall within the promised time, and I was happy to have my yard back after a year of hassles. I wish I'd dealt with him in the first place. With the bush removal and replanting, again he did a nice job. He actually finished earlier that the date he estimated when providing the quote. I'm surprised he wasn't already on Angie's List. The only area for improvement would be for him to get online with email and a website. I was able to reach him by phone without any problems, though. If I left a message, he always called back.
Description of Work: I first hired Dave Allen last September to take over a job that another contractor (David Patterson, Terrascape) had abandoned after ripping up my yard. That job involved the removal of a lot of junk left by the previous contractor and the installation of a retaining wall. In the spring I asked Dave to do a major landscaping job on the rest of the yard. He and his crew dug up a lot of old bushes (~20) and ground up the roots, then prepared the soil, and planted new bushes (33), 1 tree, and some ivy on a sloping bank.
