D & G Chimney Sweeps

Called the company to have my already working fireplace cleaned and checked for the season. Says should not be used. Explained a few things in the system that needed to be changed for fireplace to be safe. Did not return to original state it was in originally. Says will send me an estimate of work to be done. Have not heard from him since.

Don arrived on time for an 8:00am Sat appointment and went straight to work. When he was finished he reviewed the results and answered some questions I had. The cost was a bit higher than others offering the same service, but I had used D &G in the past and thought he did good work.

This company is extraordinary. Mr. Matthews personally answered my call and was able to quote me a price for the cleaning (only) over the phone. We scheduled an appointment for later in the same week. Mr. Matthews and his team of two other gentlemen arrived promptly when they said they would. They took great care to protect the areas from dirt and grime...and there was a lot of it! They worked bottom up and top down seamlessly and left the area around the fireplace perfectly clean. Most impressive were the men themselves; knowledgeable, professional and unfailingly polite. When they discovered loose bricks inside the chimney, Mr. Matthews explained the necessary repairs and quoted a most reasonable additional cost. We would recommend this company to anyone, anytime, anyplace. They were THAT GOOD!!!!! The improvement to the fireplace was impressive...truly a job masterfully done.

He arrived promptly and worked very hard to ensure the job was done well. Our fireplace and the chimney have never been in better condition since before we bought our house 11 years ago.

The chimney was cracked and Don expertly cleaned it, filling a bucket with the residue. He cleaned up, leaving not a trace. This was very much worth it.

The provider arrived on time and performed the services to my satisfaction. They also gave a detailed assessment of the repairs needed along with an estimate of the costs.

I had a problem with water coming down my chimney during heavy rain and snow. I call D & G and Don Matthews came and diagnosed my problem - rusted chase cover and flue section needing to be extended. He gave me a quote which I felt was reasonable and I agreed to have all services performed at quoted prices. He explained in detail the work that needed to be performed. Mr. Matthews removed the rusted chase cover and flue section and placed a tarp on my chimney for protection until the new chase cover, cap and flue sections that he ordered arrived While I was out of town visiting family, he returned to install the new stainless steel chase cover - while awaiting new flue sections to arrive. He and his crew returned two more times to install the new flue sections and reinstall the wash collar and chimney cap and make sure everything was properly secured.. He then checked to make sure my gas fireplace worked properly and had not been damaged by the water coming in. I am very satisfied with the professionalism and quality of work and pricing. He and his crew worked very hard to see that everything was done properly and they cleaned up after the job was done. I would do business with him again without hesitation.

The two fellows from D & G did a good job - neat and efficient - of cleaning our chimney. Because we were pleased with their service, we also accepted their offer to put a cap on the chimney. They said they would call before they came to install the cap. Unfortunately, we have not heard from them since; and we do want a cap placed on the chimney. We haven't paid for the cap, but are willing to do so if one can be installed.

We thought we had an animal in our chimney, as we were getting a foul odor. I called D& G Chimney Sweep and they informed me they could come out that day!! They were prompt and extremely friendly. They took great care in keeping our living room clean and covered. He even taught me how to relight our gas fireplace and cleaned our gas logs. He installed a cap on the chimney to prevent any animals from getting in. (There wasn't an animal, it was just a collection of rotting leaves-thank goodness). I would use them again for any chimney issue. Very friendly and courteous!

They were about an hour late for the appointment, with no apology. One person did the cleaning and checking while the other was running errands to get different things. I was told that the chimney cap on the flue was ok, but I know that it needed caulking. They said they went on the roof, but I don't think they did. For the job that was performed I felt the price was a bit high. At least they didn't try selling me anything I didn't need. I was not impressed.

I had seen the ad for D&G Chimney services in the Angie's List magazine, and decided to call them. I wanted my chimney inspected and cleaned for the coming winter season. They did not arrive for the first appointment we scheduled, but Don did call me and let me know that they would be about an hour and a half late. We decided to reschedule instead. On the new appointment date, Don and Larry arrived about half an hour early. They inspected the chimney in question, inside and outside, and determined that the chimney was in good repair and that the flue was clean and safe for fires this season. I discussed with Don various options for the other fireplaces in my home, as I want to get away from burning wood and go with gas inserts, perhaps. I found him to be very knowledgeable, and he gave me websites to look at for inserts. His advice on starting a wood fire and keeping it burning was right on. I have followed his recommendations and have found the fireplace to be much more enjoyable.

It had been 20 years since the last chimney sweeping, and we had a problem with moisture in the wall above the fireplace that appeared to be coming from the chimney. Called D&G, and Don Matthews came out and gave us quotes for the work described above. The quotes were very reasonable and we agreed to have all of the services performed at the quoted prices. Don returned on the date we agreed on and performed the chimney sweep service. He did a very thorough job and explained every step, including recommendations for some things we might do to improve the safety of our fireplace (e.g. seal a small gap between the hearth stone and the fireplace). Don returned on another date that we agreed on with a small crew and repaired the roof flashing around the chimney, completely replaced the cement crown on the chimney, and installed a nice-looking, sturdy, stainless steel chimney cap. Again, he and the crew worked hard and quickly, and he explained everything that was done in detail. I have waited for several rains to verify that the water problem in the wall above the chimney has been resolved, and it appears to be gone. I am very happy with the professionalism, punctuality, quality of work, and fair pricing offered by Don Matthews and his company. I would do business with him again unhesitatingly.

The gentlemen arrived on the day promised -- even a half hour early! They were very careful and placed tarps down to protect the hearth and the floor. They also inspected the fireplace and chimney and recommended some repairs that will need to be made next spring. Very pleased with their service.

When calling D&G, the man I spoke to was very difficult to communicate with. I just moved into the house for which I was requesting service, so I did not know the ins and outs of my chimney. I just knew it needed cleaned and that it needed some service. The man I spoke with was very short and it seemed as if he was irritated by my lack of knowledge on the matter. That in turn irritated me, because the reason I was calling him was to have my chimney inspected. Also, I did note that past reviews commented that this company had a tendency for not having customer courtesy in terms of showing up for appointments. Regardless, I thought I would have him come out and take a look. Surprisingly, he offered (without me asking) to come out the next day (a Sunday). I have a very complex work schedule, so I had to take time off for the technician to get in the house. After 2.5 hours of no one showing up, and numerous calls, I finally get a call back with the man saying "we had a mishap and forgot to call you to let you know that we need to reschedule." I had about enough of these people, decided to heed the red flags and look elsewhere. I understand that things happen, but if you check this companies reviews, you can see that this is a common occurrence. Have some courtesy!

Very well I would use them for the repair estimated.

This company came recommended from friends, so we called them and scheduled them out to inspect / give quote on chimney. The following went down: 1) Serviceman calls at the time he's supposed to be at my house, says he needs to reschedule for another day. 2) When serviceman arrives on next scheduled appt, he spends an hour inspecting my fireplace, takes brick with him to find availability of replacement. Says he will return in a few days with pricing for me. 3) No calls for a week... then he calls to say he found a supply of my brick, and that he's working on my quote. 4) 2 weeks later and he calls me to get my address so that he can MAIL me the quote he was supposed to hand deliver to me weeks previous 5) It's now 3 months later... no invoice ever arrives, no calls from him, no returning of my brick, no nothing. I'm completely unimpressed - they absolutely wasted my time.

It turned out really well. They were very through and very clean. They were quick. They did not price gouge. They were very honest.

Don was very friendly. I had scheduled our appointment on a day when my husband was going to be home from work anyway. A few hours before arrival time, Don called and informed me that they were stuck on another job and would have to reschedule. This might be the kicker for some people, however, I completely understand that with service companies, this sort of thing happens time to time. And if I put myself in the other customer's shoes, I would want them to stay and finish the job rather than leave halfway through. So this was no big deal to me, I tend to schedule on convenient days for me just in case something like this happens, plus, I appreciated him calling as soon as he was aware of the possibility of being held up. So we rescheduled right away for a Saturday afternoon. When Don's crew showed up, it was somewhat muddy outside, but they took great care in laying down tarps and mats to protect our floors. They got started by looking over the fireplace. When it came time to clean it out, they took caution to warn us it would be loud and might not be pleasant for our 6 month old to hear. I appreciated the conisderation. It took about half an hour with a big vacuum machine and afterwards, they explained to us that it was in good shape, wasn't overly dirty, and even showed us how to best use it. He even made some simple suggestions such as changing the blower switch to a "dimmer" type switch made specifically for fireplaces that would allow us to change the speed of the blower fan. Afterwards, one of his workers made a detailed drawing of the fireplace with dimensions and checked to make sure everything was up to par. I asked him about different types of wood to burn and he gave me a very detailed explanation of the best types to use and the different benefits/negatives to each as well as typical prices. On our phone call, I had originally asked for an inspection price and cleaning price. Don said that cleaning was $310 and included the price of inspection ($100-If I recall correctly). He said that if they got there and it wasn't in need of cleaning, then they would just do an inspection. I also printed a coupon from Angie's List for a chimney sweep in case we needed one. The quote was right on, we ended up needing it cleaned and my total came to $285 with the coupon, just as he had said. Don's crew was very friendly and took great care to keep everything clean. I will definately be using him for our yearly inspection/cleaning. One other little mention.....A few days later, I received a very detailed list of different types of wood and BTU content from Don. I thought it was extra nice of him to take the time to send that to me since I had so many questions pertaining to the info. Most people would have told me to "google it" or something but he took the time to mail me a cheat sheet! Thanks Don! See you next year!

After we scheduled an appointment, I had to leave my work and my husband had to leave his job to be home , and D&G sweeps guy didn't come, didn't call in advance, and when I called didn't pick up the phone.
