The people working at CW are very knowledgable and are happy to answer questions. They didn't make us feel like idiots and were patient in explaining how the electrical system in our new house worked and what work they were performing. I'd use them again, hands down.

Description of Work: Dave came to my house at the exact time. First of all I called a couple of people and the never returned my call. They did return my call the same day and gave me he service the next day. He explained everything to me and showed me a lot of respect and really listened to me. He could NOT have been More helpful I will recommed him as one of the best service people I ever dealt with. I had a problem with my plug outlets. I blew a fuse with sparks and it affected my outlets upstairs. I was affraid I might have a fire in one of the outlets. He checked all my outlets and said everything is fine. Then I ask him if he could give me an estimate on putting in a new panel and he did. He was very accommodating to my needs. Carol Shanholtz Pittsburgh

Wonderful response and great service. Chris came out to do the estimate. It was the best one we received. They showed up a couple of days later to do the work. The crew was very polite and professional. I made a mistake in installing a fan after they left. Chris came back a couple of days later and fixed that as well as installed a second fan for us. They came back fairly quickly to help me out the second time. I would definitely use these guys again. We were very happy with price and quality of work.
Description of Work: Older house. There were no ceiling lights, everything was lamps. Most of the outlets were on a switch. They came out, put up two ceiling junction boxes, made all the outlets permanently hot and put dual switches on the walls for light/fan fixtures in both rooms. An additional outlet was also added in the hallway. They also installed a ceiling fan and light for us.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal $49 coupon for $600 off a 200 amp electrical panel installation. I contacted CW Electrical Services via e-mail and Dave called me within a few minutes to arrange a walk through. He arrived on time and spent a lot of time inspecting the house and taking notes. He provided a complete and detailed explanation of what would be done and we arranged for a date to perform the work. The electricians, Tony & Rock, arrived on time on the day scheduled and completed the work quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up the work area completely. A coincidental snafu with the furnace which turned out to have nothing to do with the electrical panel was handled professionally by CW. Dave, Tony & Rock were excellent to deal with and I would definately hire them again for any electrical work in my house.

Was looking into "Big Deal" for Pittsburgh. https://my.angieslist.com/thebigdeal/default.aspx?itemid=dFfKKchVCJo%3d Could not believe that a panel upgrade was going to cost $49 for 6 hours of work and materials. Contacted company CW listed on phone number. Spoke with gentleman on the phone named Dave and inquired about cost being only $49. Reassured me that only price increase would be if long runs were needed or if they ran into situations beyond normal that would cause an increase in time or materials. I verified again "so the only cost is $49 for this and that's it?" -- I was again reassured that it was only $49. Service was performed today 2/14/2012. When invoice was presented price was listed as $1395.00 -- I was outraged, as well as destroyed that I was being forced to pay $1400. The installer (Tony and Rock) called Dave back and passed me the phone. I spoke with him again asking what the price increase was for and why was I being charged almost $1400. I was met with how they make very little money off these deals with Angies list and how they are just trying to get their names out there and its a better deal than their 100amp panel upgrade. I was furious. I asked again, "Why was I not told this previously when I called in, specifically to ask if it would be more than $49? TWO TIMES I asked "IS THIS ALL I AM GOING TO BE CHARGED?" and was told both times that it was $49 (aside from prior mentioned circumstances). Again, I was told "it was on the site, nothing I can do" I asked if I could have payment broken into 2 payments since this is nearly $1400 more than I had agreed to pay, to which I was told no. I did not even go out and get different quotes from other companies due to the fact that this SEEMED to be worded on the site as if it was only $49. I even went so far as to ask the first time to define overhead electrical service, because on the page it said "standard overhead electrical service standard cost is $1995.00" He said as long as it came off the pole and into my house and it was not underground that i was in the clear, and it would be $49. There was NUMEROUS chances for this gentleman to step up and clearly state that although the deal is $49 there will still be an additional $1395 cost to be picked up by the customer. This is so awkwardly worded on the site, as to confuse the end user. This is why I called to MAKE SURE that there were no hidden costs. I was blatantly lied to, and then forced to pay the $1400 cash with no explanation given as to why when I asked earlier that they did not come clean and explain extra costs associated with this whole procedure. I am outraged, annoyed, disappointed, and most of all broke, now because of this company that took advantage of a poorly worded ad, to hide costs and bill them on the back end.I was not provided a quote ahead of time, even though on their forms there is clearly an area listed to provide a quote BEFORE work is performed. To be fair, the installers (tony and rock) and the work completed were great. I just wish that Dave would have come clean about the price when I CALLED, OR, provided a quote ahead of time since on the website the wording is a bit misleading. Again, I gave them fair chance to let me know that it was a $600 CREDIT, not a $600 Voucher for the upgrade, as it is stated on the website. Very misleading. It is sad, because i have a whole basement I am finishing, and I was going to stick with this company to do all the wiring in the basement, but based on this experience, I may just go out and find someone else to do it now. RE: Company Response While this situation was an obvious miscommunication, I feel the response was handled very poorly. Chris, I understand that you need to protect your company and your company name. I stated in the above email that the installers did a great job on their part. What I don't understand is why you would blatantly lie on a response. You state several times in your response that i was swearing and cursing, when in fact there was not a single swear word. I was angry, yes, but I calmly asked the installers what the charges were for, and when they couldn't answer, the volunteered to called Dave. After speaking to Dave, my actual comment was "I guess I'm not seeing where the disconnect is here, I thought it was $49, but now am being charged $1395" -- Dave explained it to me, I stated "well, I guess then there is nothing I can really do", and we hung up. The installers then asked "Did you get everything sorted out?" my EXACT response was "It is what it is, I guess I just have to bend over ". My 7 year old daughter as well as my wife were both in the room, talking and laughing and discussing our new puppy with your other tech (rock). So for you to claim that several times i was swearing and cursing is an outright lie. Whoever provided you that information (since you were not at the actual install) must have told you the wrong information. After showing me the panel, and how everything works, the techs gave me a copy of my receipt, and apologized for the misunderstanding. I said "Hey don't worry about it, you guys did your job, it's not your fault". I was very reasonable with them, and in no way was my 5'5 frame intimidating, so please do not try and win business by slandering an unhappy customer. Again, this was more or less a big misunderstanding. You have your money, and I have my work completed. So for you to come out stating misleading and false accusations, just validates even more why it is better for me to leave this response up, as opposed to taking it down as you had requested. I am a very reasonable person, and an apology along with an explanation of costs would have probably been all it would have taken for me to step back and retract any comments. As a customer I have no idea what your costs are, and when asked I was presented with "we don't make any money on this". A further explanation (such as the one you presented, but in a slightly less derogatory tone) would have gone a long way. But being handled with such dishonesty and blatant smear tactics is just not something that I feel is appropriate.

Response from CW Electrical Services INC
I would like to start by saying, he NEVER called and asked if the total cost was only $49.00. He did call the office to ask if their would be any additional costs associated to this service. Dave asked him a few basic questions (if he had an overhead service and approximate linial feet) and determined quickly, this customer would have no additional cost. He NEVER asked if he would only be paying $49.00 (to Angieslist), his only concern was the additional costs. There is no need to "quote" a job when running an ad like this, because the price is written on the site, twice! And when running a promotion like this one, Dave can only assume that a customer would know what they purchased. Angieslist sold 8 of these coupons for us and not 1 other person was under the impression they were getting 2k worth of electrical work for only $49.00, but all others understood they were paying $49.00 for $600.00 off, which is a great deal. Bottom line is, We would never try to bait a customer and just hope he has the money to pay us once finished, because that would mean we take a chance that he wouldnt be able to pay, and for a small business, that just doesnt make sense. As far as his claim we purposely ran an ad to confuse the customer. We DO NOT have anything to do with the ad whatsoever. Angieslist "Big Deal"creates the ad, publishes and distrubutes through their website to their members. Angieslist informs us of potential ads they would like us to be apart of and we agree to THEIR terms. This particular ad, Our account manager asked us if we would take $600.00 off our normal service package for Angieslist members only. We felt like this would be a good chance to gain more customers that could possibly lead to a few refferals, obviously we wouldnt be making as much money as our normal price, so we ordered materials in bulk to cut down our overhead. Again, we did not profit from the sale of these coupons/vouchers and did not word the ad or create the ad in any way. I personally do not feel the ad is misleading. The ad states 2 times what our normal/standard price is for this service ($1,995.00) and the customer would be purchasing a $600.00 OFF coupon for $49.00. (if you are an angieslist member, check the ad for yourself and see what you think Deal ID# 57112). So as promised, his price did not increase, and was billed at time of completion $1,395.00,. It took 2 electricians 6 hours to complete his task, and panel and breakers come with a lifetime warranty and our own 5 year warranty on all other parts. How can anyone expect a company to install an electric service, normally costing roughly 2k for only $49.00? Of which, the $49.00 went to Angieslist, so that means he would like us to come to his home, purchase all associated materials, supply 2 electricians for 6 hours ( 6 on site and 1 hour travel time), gas a company vehicle and provide our warranties all for free? He had no problem with our work, quality or timing of job. He was scheduled with in a week of his phone call and had more than enough time to really read his ad/coupon or call us to explain what the $49.00 paid for if he was unable to understand what he had purchased, we dont know a customer doesnt understand something if they never ask. Also he explains we did not have him sign our forms? We have an invoice from him, signed and dated. He signed our "Authorization to proceed" area on our form. When we were finished, He through a HUGE fit, cursing and swearing at our techs. They were unable to appropriatly describe the install and walk him through how everything works. They were in a situation with an unruly customer, and were unable to follow our protocal. So they gave him a phone and he again called Dave. After more cursing, he asked if he could pay 2 payments, which Dave responded no, because we are not in the position to finance our customers. And in the past, we always come out on the short end when deaing with financing. We are never happy when a customer is upset or has an issue, but in this case I feel he is trying to take exploit our business through an ad he claims is deceptive, in an attempt to recieve a service for free. I feel he is using public forums such as BBB and Angieslist to unjustly recieve a refund. He also filed a complaint with the BBB against my business, which the two complaints are bit different. CWE did nothing wrong in this case whatsoever. If he wants to cast blame, He should start with himself and his own negligence.

We used CW Electric before and were very pleased with them, so called them again. The worker was on time and performed the work quickly. It was basically taking out an old ceiling fixture and replacing with a newer one. We will call them again as we have more little projects to do.

I contacted Dave at CW Electric after purchasing an Angie's list big deal. It a little while for Dave to finally install the cable, however, this was due to the volume of work that came in with Angie's deal. Dave is a great guy to work with. He is very professional, e.g., he eplained what was necessary, why there was an added cost, and completed the work timely (once he was able to start) and very neatly. He and his co-worker faced some tough obstacles with my home, i.e., extreme pitched roofs. and working on a slanting driveway. Once the work was completed he reviewed what he did and discussed the use of the outside electrical outlets. I would definitely use Dave again for future electrical work.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience using CW Electrical Services. When I initially called them and left a message that I wanted to set up a time for them to come out and give me an estimate, they called back within the same day. After discussing with Dave what I wanted to have done, he said that an on-site estimate would not be needed because my job was fairly standard and they do their pricing by the job not by the hour. Within 20 minutes, the estimate was emailed to me. After reviewing the estimate and calling back the next day with a few questions, I decided to move forward with CW. Other companies I called either didn't call me back or were so large that I went into the dreaded customer service queue to speak to a representative that couldn't answer my questions or schedule an estimate for over a week. On the day of my job, Chris and Dave called about an hour prior to the scheduled arrival time to let me know they had gotten unexpectedly held up and would be about an hour late. They arrived about an hour late just as they had called to notify me, I showed them the bedrooms, walked them through what I wanted done again, and they began working. Since no overhead lights were in any of the bedrooms, they needed access to my crawl-space/attic which I had already prepared for. They re-did the outlet wiring so the wall switches no longer controlled them, ran new wiring for each overhead light, installed junction boxes for each room in the ceiling, and then installed the lights I had provided. As they were working on re-wiring the outlets, they discovered that two of them were in poor shape and should not be reused, so they replaced them with new ones that they had on their truck and didn't charge me extra for it. In about two hours, the entire job was done. They cleaned up after themselves so you wouldn't have known they were there, and they even walked me through how to change the bulbs on the light fixtures (there's a spring-loaded mechanism that keeps the glass cover on that I probably would've broken if they had not gone over it with me). On top of everything, these were some of the most courteous contractors I've ever dealt with. I had a very good experience using CW Electrical Services, I would recommend them to anyone else, and I would definitely use them again myself.
Description of Work: All three of my bedrooms had wall switches that only operated outlets. No overhead lighting was in any bedroom. I had CW Electrical Services re-wire the outlets so that they would always be hot and not need the switches, and I had them wire the switches to overhead lights that I purchased and they installed. They also replaced two of the outlets at no additional cost because the existing ones were in poor condition.

I found them on Angie's List. It was a two weeks job. We live in about a hundred and ten year old house which had knob and tube electrical. They basically rewired the whole house, provided new boards, outlets, a new transformer box and new light fixtures. I bought the light fixtures and they hung them. They just completely did everything. They gave me an estimate and they sure did stick to the estimate. They were awesome.

Overall my experience was positive. The good parts were that the work was eventually completed to my satisfaction, and they were on time the three times they came to work. One down side is that it took three visits to do simple work. The first time, they only had 2 GFCI outlets with them, though I needed more (this is minor, though I did explain what I needed on the phone so a little surprised they did not come more prepared). The second time they did not set the outlet properly in the garage, so it kept tripping, which mad it impossible to use the garage door opener. When I called to ask for someone to address this, the gentleman was very nice but was not able to have someone come for a few days. When I explained that I needed someone sooner for a problem that was caused by them, they were nice enough to accommodate us earlier. Again they were absolutely on time (very impressed that someone is on time three times in row). They did admit their mistake and fixed the problem.

Made the appointment on a Tuesday for the following Monday. Chris was here on time and finished his work quickly. We also asked for a quote on another project, and he explained everything it would take, how it would work, and how much it would cost.
Description of Work: We had a home inspector find a number of items that needed to be addressed. Chris came and fixed an improperly wired GFCI, added a junction box, and sealed a potentially unsafe gap. There was a switch that the inspector noted was not setup correctly, but Chris and I both agreed that it was safe and working as it should.

They were highly rated on Angie's List but I wasn't happy with the service. The person who came here the first time put his truck in gear and it slipped down and damaged my neighbor's house. They took care of it but it is just not something you would expect from someone who has come to do repairs. It took about a month to do the repair. They came back the second day and did my work. They put in one outlet which wasn't in the original agreement and I don't think that it needed to be done. They replaced it and added it to their bill, and I wasn’t happy about that. They also damaged the wall while working on the outlet. I have done electrical work and know that you should use a template while cutting into plaster so that it doesn't get damaged. They did not do that and my plaster is still damaged. They replaced one outlet plate and the corner curls up about four inches above the wall and the countertop. The persons who did the electric work had shaved the plastic plate so that it could fit in there. It could probably be considered a safety violation because somebody could actually get a wire or fork back in there. They came out reasonably quickly. They did clean up a bit but they left a razor blade in the front and my daughter cut her foot on it.

Response from CW Electrical Services INC
As consequential as it may be to my business, I do not disagree with this customers comments. A rating of all F's would be more appropriate. As one of my employees discussed the job with the customer, our unoccupied company van, parked in the driveway with the engine off, suddenly slipped out of gear, coasted across the street and slammed into the neighbors front porch (enough said, right?). Thankfully no one was physically injured during this accident. We are fully insured and our insurance company acted swiftly (the neighbor was issued a check for the damages and repairs, We were not involved in the process whatsoever). It was an unfortunate and embarrassing accident. I cant apologize to this customer and his neighbor enough. When all the dust settled, we had set a new appointment for this customer for the next time he was available. We performed all the tasks he requested and was satisfied at the time of completion. He was called into the kitchen by our technician, to point out a cover plate that could not sit flush to his wall. We had changed the devices and it required a differently configured cover plate than his existing. The existing was handmade to allow for his backsplash tile that ended in the middle of receptacle box. The bottom of the cover was flush to the tile and the top was a 1/4" off of the wall where the tile had ended. Besides crafting another handmade cover from wood, our only option was to install our standard cover plate. At the time the customer understood why the cover could not sit flush. I was very upset with all the circumstances surrounding this particular job and understand any resentments this customer has towards my company. This event was highly out of character of my employees and my business. On every job, we do our best to satisfy a customer, leave them happy and possibly gain a referral. Sometimes nothing goes right and we have to deal with the situation as best we can. I feel we handled this incident as professional and as prompt as the circumstances permitted.

Work not performed due to bid being triple what other area electricians charge. But they are a very professional, responsive, and polite company.

While I was having difficulty even having other electricians return my multiple calls, they got in touch with me immediately and quickly came out to provide a comprehensive quote. I am doing half of the work now and will complete the other half down the road. They have been professional and helpful throughout the process.
Description of Work: They did some trouble shooting that solved some several lighting issues that I was having and replaced 2 fixtures.

I initially contacted this company mid-July based on the excellent reviews in Angies' List. I had spoken with 2 other companies who complicated the process by wanting to come out to see the chandeliers because they were heavy. They also wanted to see the height involved. I had given both of these pieces of information over the phone and felt that this should have been sufficient. . When I provided the same information to CW Electric, they were able to give me an estimate over the phone and assure me that they had the proper equipment to perform the job. I arranged the appointment and the worker arrived on time and was very professional and complimentary of the lighting fixtures I had purchased. He involved me in the process by making sure the chandeliers were being hung at the desired height. He finished the job promptly, cleaned up and made recommendations for the old chandeliers. The lightling replacements look wonderful and they work from an electrical standpoint. This was one very important advantage to using an electrician vs. a handyman for this job. The price was consistent with the estimate as well. I loved working with this company from beginning to end. I would definitely work with them again. They were great!
Description of Work: I replaced 2 chandeliers and one ceiling fixture. The job involved removing the original fixtures and installing the new ones., Both of the chandeliers were relatively high and required the proper laddering. The ceiling fixture was pretty standard.
