CMAC CONSTRUCTION

Working with Scott has been a horrible experience. From the beginning, there were communication issues with him. We wanted a versa lok wall built in our backyard, but Scott brought up the idea of building one out of treated wood, touting its cheaper cost and durability. My husband asked for two separate quotes for him at that point, explaining that we'd prefer the versa lok but were open to other options depending on cost. Scott only provided us one quote, and a mistake on our part, we assumed it was for the versa lok since that's what we'd repeatedly said we wanted. My husband told Scott we'd accept his bid and they agreed on a start date. Unfortunately for us, Scott did not provide a written contract for our project. A bad business move on his part, and a horrible mistake on ours for not requesting one. When Scott brought in the materials for the job, he unloaded the treated wood and I knew we had a problem. He said that we'd agreed on a wood wall. When we said we were expecting two quotes from him, he said he'd never agreed to that. At that point, we couldn't do anything because we didn't have a contract detailing the specifics. Scott and his two assistants finished the project over the course of two weekends. During this time, he never let me know when he arrived to start working or when he was finished. We saw his men urinating in the backyard during this time - not exactly professional behavior. When the work was finished (July 29), Scott left our backyard a mess. He wanted to charge an additional fee to repair the damage to the lawn. As a result, I started reaching out to landscapers to fix our lawn. Just about every one of the landscapers who came out commented on the poor quality of the wall. One landscaper, without my asking, inspected the wall and told me that it was already pushing out from the hillside. This was less than a month after the installation. He looked further and told me that the drainage pipes that were installed were in fact dummy pipes that did not lead to any drainage system. I was furious because Scott had said that he'd installed a French drain. I called Scott about this issue and asked him to come out and look at the wall. With no drainage and evidence of the hill already pushing out the wall, I was concerned that the wall wouldn't last. Scott came out on August 31 and admitted that the wall was indeed pushing out. He denied saying that he'd put in a drain and talked circles when I called him out on it. He also lied about previous interactions with my husband. Scott did offer to repair the wall, but at this point I no longer trusted his quality of work. Instead, I asked for a refund on the work. We agreed on the amount and he said he would send a check. Two weeks after that conversation, I had still not received our refund. I called him again to ask about the check and he said he'd have it to us by the end of the month. It's now October 1 and I still have not received my refund. To make matters worse, he is now avoiding my calls and will not return any messages that I've left. I highly recommend that anyone steer clear from Scott McNamara and his company. He is dishonest, does not honor his agreements, and does shoddy craftsmanship. Even after admitting to a poorly constructed wall, he still won't uphold his word.
