It went great! We went with them over a previous quote we received from another provider for a similar system and work. The Big Deal offer was a HUGE help. They arrived on time and were very polite. They had to drill a new hole in our wall for an updated furnace system, so they were here for several hours working on it. However, they weren't a bother. They were even nice enough to bring up my boxes the mail man dropped off at the mailbox. They came, did what they had to do and were out and I was enjoying my toasty new furnace.
Description of Work: Installed a new furnace after purchase of an Angie's List Big Deal ($2,100 for 70K BTU, 93% Efficiency Gas Furnace Installed).

They came at 7:30, a little early but my wife and I were glad they came when they did because we had movers, contractors and a cable guy coming on the same day. They were perfect, cleaned up after themselves, told me what they were doing and why. To top it off they pulled out a humidifier that was rusted and had been installed in the 1970s. We had priced out getting this done by a small neighborhood heating and air conditioning company who has a reputation of being cheap but a little rough. His price was $600 more and was not going to do the ductwork.
Description of Work: They were great!I got a humidifier (once you have one, you will understand) and a Aprilaire air filter. But here is the very good news: they inspected the 1941 ductwork and redid 6 feet of it and included it in the quote!

I purchased a deal for furnace cleaning and tune up through Angie's List. I was surprised the company contacted me within 10 minutes of paying online to set up the appointment! The technician came on the scheduled day on time, he was very personable and explained everything in detail and also notated everything on the receipt. He explained a component wasn't testing properly and I chose to have it replaced now rather than wait for it to break. It was an additional fee within reason. I was very happy with everything about this deal from the initial contact to the prompt, courteous technician and detailed info of what was done. I would recommend this company first to anyone looking for furnace repair and/or service.

While getting ready to install an AC unit on my furnace, it was discovered than BOTH furnaces had cracked heat exchanges (missed on an inspection on May 21 by a different HVAC company - the cracks were visible to the eye). A simple AC installation suddenly became a very big job. I obtained 4 estimates - Climatech was the cheapest, but was also the most responsive to the need to obtain a waiver from the next door neighbor and to the need for proper permits. Climatech also bid Lennox system with April Air cleaners. It took about 2 weeks to get all necessary equipment and permits before work started. Total installation only took 4 days. Each day, the technicians cleaned up the mess in the basement so that we could walk around with tripping over tools and ductwork. Absolutely fabulous work done. Will continue to use them for my annual maintenance.
Description of Work: Removal of old furnaces (2) and AC (1); installation of new furnaces (2), ACs (2), ducting, air cleaners (2), AC pads (2), and new 2nd floor return (1); permits and waiver letter from neighbor.

Great. Larry was my serviceperson and I would recommend him to anyone. He was knowledgeable and efficient. In addition, the company originally said he would arrive between 8 and 9 am. When they realized he would not be here by that time, they called me and let me know he was on another emergency job and would arrive by 11:00. He arrived and completed all his work by 1:00. I have been looking for a company to use for my HVAC...and I found it. My prior company that I used for years was not good and I quit them...so having Climatech to work with feels very good!!
Description of Work: My AC died the previous day. I called them at 4:00pm on Thursday and they were able to send some one out the next morning. Larry came to my home, diagnosed the problem, went and got the parts, and returned and repaired it!!

I contacted Climatech after they installed a $10,000+ Mitsubishi unit at my parents home and were recommended to me. We needed a wall unit replaced on the 3rd floor of our home. The representative came and did an estimate - $2800 for procuring the heater/cooler unit, placing a wireless thermostat, and labor. He worked with me and brought it down to $2500 after a got another estimate which was lower. I asked about the cost after doing some research and finding out the cost of the unit was only $800 and the thermostat $150. I asked where the extra charges were coming from. I was told it would be an all day job with one or two people because they didn't think the unit would fit perfectly in the wall after the old unit was taken out (it is a brick wall). I said fine. Two guys came on the day of installation. I asked again, how long it would take, they said 1/2 to a full day. No problem. They came at 7:30. At 8:00 I went up to see how they were doing, and they were reading the instruction manual for installation. At 8:30 they took a break to smoke. At 9:00 they took another break to smoke. By 9:15 they were done. I asked why I was being charged so much for labor when they really only worked for over an hour (a portion of which they read how to install it). They suggested I contact the salesman I was working with. When I brought up my concerns, I was told they do not negotiate after the fact. I never got a clear cut answer as to why I was charged so much for labor, when the actual labor was so little. I would not do business with them again, and would not recommend them. The unit works fine, they were professional and clean when installing. But I feel like I was taken for a ride, and nothing was done to address my concerns by the time they had my money in their pocket.

Response from CLIMATECH INC
At Climatech, we strive to provide superior service at a fair price. The through the wall heating and cooling unit similar to those found in hotel rooms that we installed in home typically has an installed value of approximately $3000.00. When showed concern with an investment of $2800 and informed us that he had received a competitive bid that was less than ours, we did negotiate a price of $2500 to match the price of the other contractor without having ever seen the competitor's quote. This price was agreed upon prior to installation and we received verbal approval to proceed with the installation at that price. We believe that has been misinformed as to the cost of the equipment. The equipment that we installed costs far greater than $950.00 that is noted. In addition, our labor charges allowed for a partial day for two installers to allow for proper handling and installation of the equipment, not a full day as noted. When contacted us with concerns about the ease of installation after the installation took place requesting further discounts we informed him that after reviewing our costs on the project we couldn't provide any type of refund. However, in good faith, we offered the customer a one year maintenance agreement on his new equipment which allowed for two visits to clean the system and keep it running a manufacturers recommendations. This is a nearly $200 value that we offered to this customer which he declined to accept.

I now have a three-year contract with them on preventative maintenance for my heating and air conditioning system. They also installed the system we presently have about three years ago. I'm very happy with them. The price is reasonable. They are reliable, effective, and large enough to be able to provide service when needed. They have good coverage compared to smaller HVAC businesses.
Description of Work: For HVAC, I've been using Climatech. They were here within the last two months. It was all covered in the preventative maintenance contract except for I had to pay for some refrigerant, which was about $105. They changed the filer, which I already had. They checked everything over.

Well, the employee (Bob) was good. He spent time looking for the problem and at the end of the service, he felt that he had found it. The problem was that when I initially called to schedule an appointment, I asked what the price would be and I was told that it would be $95.00 to diagnose the problem. Bob spent approx. 2.5 hrs here and thought that he knew what part was bad. He didn't have the part and would have to come back another time to install a new part but he charged me $335.00 for this visit. Then, when he gets the part in, he would come back out, charging me again for the part plus labor to install and $60.00 to come back out ???? I will not recommend this company to anyone!!

I had my annual furnace inspection done on 12/5/13 were the technician found that I had four stress cracks in my heat exchanger. By law, the technician had to turn off my furnace. I immediately went onto Angie's List and contacted 5 vendors in order to get pricing. I had two vendors come out on the 12/5/13 and three on 12/6/13. At no time did I share any pricing details with the vendors. I wanted them to come in and give me their best price right from the start. Climatech was the last vendor I consulted with and was awarded the job based on the price and the level of equipment they were providing. They also shifted their install team's calendars so I could get the install done immediatley due to my circumstances. On 12/10/13 the install team came in and replaced the furnace and on 12/11/13 they replaced the AC unit (it was cheaper to replace them both at the same time and my AC unit was the same age as my furnace). The estimator, the installers, and the front office were all professional, courteous, and extremely helpful. They made an extremely urgent situation into one that had a happy ending. I will be contracting with Climatech on an annual service agreement for both inspection and repairs to my new furnace and AC unit.
Description of Work: Climatech provided an initial consultation and price quote and once accpeted had their service team come out and install both a furnace and AC unit.

Estimator arrived on time for his scheduled appointment, gave me his estimate. Installers arrived on time for their appointment on a Friday, but found a defective part in the unit, and left without finishing. They were unable to provide a timeframe for rescheduling, which was frustrating for me. They kept telling me that this kind of thing "never happens", although of course in my experience, it happened 100 percent of the time! They did return the following Tuesday and complete the installation, cleaning up beautifully behind themselves.

We had four different companies give estimates and Climatech was mid-range. We started the process in December because our sales rep told us that we could get a rebate from the gas company if we moved quickly. When the sales rep and the installation rep came to measure, the sales rep handed me the paperwork for Equitable Gas. We have Columbia Gas, therefore, we did not qualify for the rebate. Wouldn't this be one of the first question you would ask a customer when offering a rebate, who provides your gas? So here we are in the dead of winter getting our heat replaced because we thought we could get a rebate which now we don't qualify for. With vacations scheduled so that we could be at home while the work was being done, we decided to go ahead. The installers were to start at 8:00 am., they arrived at 9:00 am. The guys who did the installation were not outside contractors they were Climatech employees and were very nice and would answer any of my questions. With some of their comments I could tell that there was some internal squabbling between the service guys and the sales reps. The guys finished up around 3:00 which included an hour for lunch. I thought that to be a little early considering they did not get to our home till 9:00 am. They did do a good job installing the furnace and adding new duct work to a couple of rooms that did not have any. I was originally told it would take four days for the installation, but they required an additional day. My MIL and FIL had toe come contractor-sit for the additional day, which was the day they hooked up the outside a/c unit. They said that they could not test it because it was too cold outside but they would come back in the spring and it should only take an hour or so to test. The furnace worked great but we did notice that it was drying out the house, so we called them back and asked them to install the whole-house humidifier. When the guys got here to install the humidifier, they did not know what they were here to do. They got the humidifier hooked up at an additional cost but well worth it in the end. We called them in the spring to set up a time to test the a/c unit. My wife came home planning on taking a long lunch hour so they could complete the testing. When the service man walked in, the first thing he said was, "I heard you had trouble with your unit when it was installed." This was news to us! We didn't know there had been any problems. After some testing, we were told that the BRAND NEW unit was freezing up and he would have been better off bringing a brand new unit. He did find the issues with the unit and after several runs for parts, etc., he got it fixed but it cost my wife a half day of unplanned vacation. In all, the unit works. We have a cape cod so the upstairs is still a bit warm, but we expected that even with the central air. As for Climatech, our biggest complaint would be that they are bad with communication not only with what we as the client wanted but internally as well; as evidenced by the service guys not knowing why they were here when they installed the whole house humidifier. We also feel that they could have been a little more thorough in there initial inspection of the house. Our house had existing duct work, but it was not until I went to clean the upstairs registers that I noticed the return grills were open to the space in our front porch. I realize the on older homes they did use the space between studs and floors joists for return air flow. The problem I had was that the air being returned was not only the air from the upstairs but from outside as well. I called Climatech again to come out so that they could pan those returns in so that is was capturing the inside air and not the hot air from outside. I feel that for the most part Climatech was an average company and did very average work. I'm not sure if we would use them again or not.

I liked the gentleman that came in, the technician. He was very informative. The first one that came to look at the furnace, our furnace had stopped; he gave us some valued information. But my main problem is I had a gentleman come back who told us that he found that we needed a thermostat. We got a new thermostat and we also got our furnace cleaned out, and they were having a special. Well my problem is that the technician did not tell me that they were offering $79.95 to clean out the furnace. Then he put on the thermostat, which cost me another I think like $140-150. But what they did was, because I had just $30 coupon they said the special for the furnace is null and void if you are going to use the coupon. I was not told this ahead of time. So what I did was when I paid the bill I called to talk to the owner. It was ridiculous, he got off the phone four times, now we are talking about I think $20-25 difference and he got off of the phone four times before he decided, okay well since the technician did not totally explain that to you I will give you the $20. It was like I was pulling to get it out of them and that was ridiculous. I told him that I got you from Angie's List. I mean I understand when people have promotion but I was not told that the $79.95 was a promotion, I was just thought that that was what they were charging to clean out your furnace. Secondly I had a thermostat put on also. So, I was not pleased. I did not like his attitude, I mean three or four times, it was not like I was asking for a $100 discount. So, the time I got done I paid him well over $300. He really turned me off; it was almost I felt like I was having to beg him to get this $20 back, and it was ridiculous. The gentleman, the technician, did do a decent job in cleaning out the furnace. So basically I cannot fault the technician, I fault the owner. Secondly, what they need to do in the future is if they are having special prices and you have got a coupon from Angie's List they need to let you know, well look whatever service you are getting done if you have got a coupon then if there is a promotion that promotion is null and void. I told the owner that that was not explained to me, I said no one told me that the $79.95 was a promotion. Regarding the thermostat even though we have a new thermostat, it is a brand new thermostat, it is still not cutting off like it should be. The thermostat is still not cutting off like it should be and it is a brand new thermostat. The owner seemed uncaring. He was very uncaring as to whether I would get my $20 back or not. He kept putting me on hold and putting me on hold.

I hired ClimaTech to check and service the air conditioning unit mounted in my office with the external part on the roof. They arrived on time and looked at the interior unit. The service essentially declined to look at the exterior unit since it was on the roof and difficult to access. My main complaint is the items for which they bill: labor starts from whenever they finish the previous job no matter where they happen to be, a vehicle charge, and a miscellaneous consumables (gas?) charge. The extra charges plus the overcharge on the labor easily added 40-50% to what the cost should have been. I will avoid hiring them again and will try to find an independent HVAC repair person instead.
