He mis-diagnosed the problem, failed to fix it, and charged me more than the Hyandai dealer did. He also illegally transported dirty tires in the trunk of my vehicle and got oily fingerprints and mudprints all over the vehicle. Had I not JUST DETAILED the car, I may not have noticed this. When confronted, he admitted to transporting the tires. He has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau. This guy is awful. Stay away.
Description of Work: He broke off my bug shield and didn't tell me until I confronted him. He estimated that a $200 tune-up will fix the problem" then charged me $724.90. He took my insurance and registration card and wouldn't give them back until I called 911 and the police confronted him in his shop.

as a knowledgeable auto repair person on a non-professional level... i do all my auto repairs. burts is the very opposite of going to a chain store auto parts shop. rather small and a throw back to the way auto parts stores were in days past. that is EXACTLY why i went there. the counter lady is not what you would expect but is equally as knowledgeable as any person in a chain store auto parts store. Burt on the other hand seems to know alot about parts and is not afraid to offer suggestions, ideas and advice. the parts do seem like a step up from what you would get at the local chains. i find the prices to be competitive as well. they dont always have everything you may need being a small store but so far im happy with Burt's.
Description of Work: auto parts -- im reviewing this as an auto parts store - keep in mind i dont give A ratings easily.

ing for I contacted two dealers in the area and one other mechanic. Burt's quote was $200-$500 less than these other service providers. If you are looking for ornate waiting rooms and stete-of-the-art computerized billing procedures, go elsewhere. But if ypu want reliable repairs at reasonable prices, Burt is your guy.
Description of Work: I needed suggested maintenance 105,000 mileservice for my 2006 Subaru, and he did his usual excellent work. If you are looking , replacement of the timing belt, water pump and assocoated parts.

Their prices are very reasonable. I never feel like they've overcharged. They're also local, and I like that. He has also gone above and beyond what other mechanics might do.

I got a call a few hours later with a laundry list of picky little things they said I needed to do for my car to pass inspection. The window motor needed to be replaced, which would cost $350 in addition to replacing one of the supplementary headlights, the rear wiper blade, and cleaning the battery contacts, together totaling $90. I told them that I would take the car to see about the window motor. When I picked it up the door panel was just laying in my trunk. Very unprofessional. At the second shop I was told that none of these issues were actually required to be fixed to pass inspection. I was also offered a significantly better price ($200) on the motor at the second shop should I choose to replace it. These guys are crooks and liars.
Description of Work: I came in because my driver's side window wasn't working. The clerk noticed that I needed an inspection so I asked them to do that as well. I was also concerned about losing oil so I asked them to take a look at my head gaskets, which is a known issue with this make/model/year. The mechanic checked out all of these issues and performed an inspection.

They promised they would repair my lawnmower in 2 weeks, but since I had a referral from a long-time customer of theirs, said they would try to get to it faster, like within the week. I paid a $25 deposit. I called to check on the lawnmower in a week--I got laughed at, and told to call back at the two week point. I called back at the two week mark and they said it wasn't ready, and I should call back in a few days. I did, they said a few days more. At this point they offered to let me come in and pick up the lawnmower and take it somewhere else, but since I don't have a car, I said this would be difficult, and asked when I could expect them to actually be done with it. They said a few more days. I called back today, over three weeks since I dropped it off, and they had still not even looked at the lawnmower. They offered to "put me ahead" in the list, and *maybe* they'd be done with my lawnmower by next weekend (i.e., about a month from drop-off). I asked, "ahead of whom, people who have been waiting for months?" The woman to whom I had spoken every time said yes, that they had gotten very backed up because an employee had been out sick for several days. However, an employee being out sick for a few days should not put them so far behind! I feel that it was irresponsible and unethical for them to take my lawnmower and my business and say 1 to 2 weeks when they knew or should have known that there was no chance that was possible. Especially after I had told them it was important to me to get the lawnmower back quickly--I would never have gone there if they had told me in the first place it would take a month or more to get my lawnmower back.I will never patronize this business again. On the upside, they did give me back my deposit and apologize for the delay. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that it's summer, I've now need to mow my lawn for over 3 weeks with no progress on fixing my lawnmower, and I now have to start all over trying to find somewhere to get it fixed.
Description of Work: Was supposed to repair my lawnmower, which I believe just needs its spark plugs to be cleaned, but after over 3 weeks (ie, over 2 weeks after they had hoped it would be done, over 1 week after they had promised it would be ready), they had not even taken a look at it. I had requested it be done ASAP because it is summer and I needed to mow my lawn, and they said they would do their best to beast the times they had told me. Ha! If it needed a new part, I have no idea; they just took my deposit money and proceeded to do nothing.

I called Burt's Auto to see how much it would be to inspect my car. I explained on the phone that I had just moved to PA and needed a full inspection. They told me it would be $30 and scheduled a time for me to take my car in. I knew my brake lights were out and that I would have to get those fixed but otherwise the car was in good condition. I brought it over and the guy there was very nice. He drove me home and told me he would call. A lady from the place called me about three hours later to tell me the prognosis. She told me that I needed a decent amount of work and everything would total $295.27. The inspection would be $30 but the emissions test would be $45 (they didn't tell me over the phone that this was a separate charge and not included in the inspection. I naively thought it was included because in PA you need both). Then the brake light were out and for four bulbs they wanted $28. There is a crack on my bumper that they said need to be duct taped for $30 or it would not pass inspection because of sharp parts (btw, this crack has been there for years and passed many inspections in two different states with no problems). Then she said I needed a new air filter for $12.95, fix the a part of the suspension on one side for $95, and plug my tires (apparently there was a nail in two of my tires) for $35. While I don't think they charged a fortune for any specific thing (aside from the duct tape), I don't really know what auto parts price at and I'm on a tight budget. I decided I would do some of the work by myself (like duct tape and change the light bulbs) and then bring it back to get inspected and finish the work. I told this to the lady who immediately became cold. "That will be $32.10," she told me. "I'll have to get my mechanic to take out the lightbulbs and put in the old ones then," she told me. "Okay, you can do that," I answered. Then she continued, "I should really charge you for that but I'm not going to." WHAT!? Does she think she's doing me a favor? I don't think so and I told her, "Actually, you shouldn't charge me for that because you did that before confirming with me." "Well we had to change it to check why the brake lights weren't working," she answered. "Well that's what I'm paying you $32.10 for," I answered in a calm voice. "Lady, come pick up your car," she ended, hanging up on me. There are crummy mechanics out there but I have never been to a place that is so rude and stingy. I agreed immediately to pay for checking out the car but don't then pretend to do me any favors. I will pick up my car this afternoon, fix what I can myself, and then take it to a profession place where I am treated like a valued customer. I will never go to Burt's Auto again and I strongly recommend that you don't either, unless you want to be enraged.

They took quite a long time to repair the window. They have always honestly quoted me and fairly priced. I liked their services and will use the same in future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Burt's Auto Parts for car inspection and window repair, in January, 2011.
