The company has an efficient office staff and Mr Gallagher the owner was very professional. The workers arrived when they said they would and were professional. They moved my furniture away from the walls and pulled back the carpet. They attempted to block the stairwell with plastic to keep the cement dust in the basement. They completed the job in two days. They cleaned up fairly well. When done the foreman said there was something missing from the back-up battery and it would be delivered but we have not seen it or heard from the company yet.
Description of Work: They removed the cement over the exsisting french drain and installed a new Miradrain wall system and replaced the sump pump with a new pump system with a battery back up.

He was very honest. He told me to look into a cement guy because that was the source of my problem was the old cement that was cracked. He told me i didn't need any interior work done. He was very punctual and responsive. I would recommend him to anyone. He will tell you the facts.

Tom was the owner of the company. He sub contracted people to come out here and do the work. He drew pictures of what he wanted them to do. I gave him the cheque at the end of the day. I didn’t go back and scrutinize that against what the contract had. That was not what the contract said. I called them and told them what was there in the contract. I told them to come and have a look at it. They said that there would be someone out there next week. They never showed up. They charged me a whole lot of money. It took six hours to do. There were four guys and two trucks. They weren’t working just talking. It was always two guys working and two guys standing around for six hours. I was not happy with the little bit they did and did it incorrectly. I got what was typical and not what was A+ on Angie’s list. He did his job. Across my lawn I had pebbles covering the pipe. They did not put up any proper plan. They didn’t even come back to see what was wrong. The office worker and the secretary were very responsive and personable. She is a very sweet person. I was amazed; at their every single thing it was worst of the trade. They sit and smoke the cigarettes the whole day. They would do inappropriate joke. They were worst in the trade which I can say about the crew. They were here when they said they were going to be there. Tom told me that it would be a two or three day’s job. When they got here it was six hours job. I wouldn’t use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used AquaGuard Systems Inc for basement waterproofing. They worked for me in July. They put in a sewage drainage system.

Their estimate was $40 a foot. They were very knowledgeable about all aspects of construction and water control. They were a number of issues about the house I was not aware of and he explained it well.
Description of Work: Aquaguard Systems Inc. gave me an estimate 2 weeks ago for some basement waterproofing. They had also done work for me 7 to 8 years ago.
They were very professional and explained everything in detail. They were the only ones to suggest about the outside drains. They had a very different approach and that impressed me a lot. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

The estimate was about $2000. I didn’t have the same good feeling as I had with another company. The guy gave me a very reasonable explanation which was very similar to what I had before. The only problem was that they were not going to take care of the demolition aspect. The first step was to take down the walls and then install the parts and everything. I had to hire someone else to do the job which was inconvenient for me. I wanted someone one who could just come in, demolish the whole thing and install the drainage system which is why I didn’t end up choosing them. I would consider them for another quote.

The person who came out was nice, professional, and engaging. I don’t know how to judge the price but they seemed knowledgeable and like they knew what they were doing. He was punctual, he was thorough both inside and outside, he showed us the problem areas, and he was very clear about how they would address the problems. I thought the guarantee on the work was good. It seems like a very professional company.

Tom arrived promptly to do the estimate and was very thorough reviewing the area needing the drain. His estimate was in the same ballpark to other estimates we received. He gave us a discount for paying cash. That sealed the deal as well as other reports on Angie's List. Crew arrived early on the assigned day and completed the job in two days as Tom indicated in his estimate. They were very professional and even removed a drain pipe for us and cemented it after removal. My only complaint would be clean-up in some ares could have been better. They needed to do cement work after installing the drain and there was a fair amount of dirt/cement tracks left in the laundry room and garage. Overall, the work was excellent and, with all the rain we have been having, the basement is dry!!

AquaGuard originally gave me an estimate on installing an internal french drain and sump pump system in my basement in December 2010. They were the middle range price between Advanced Basement (lowest price) & Champion (highest price). I actually signed a contract with AquaGuard in December and scheduled the work to be done. But while the inspector was here to look at and quote my job he suggested that I get my downspouts and drainage lines checked for proper drainage since I have a downspout on the corner of the house where I always would get water entering my basement. He gave me the business card of a leak detection company that does that work with the inspection cameras but I chose to use my own plumber to do the work instead. So, I got my plumber out right away to inspect the downspouts and drainage lines. And, as it turned out, the downspout on that corner of the house where I would always get the water leakage was improperly installed and was disconnected below the surface of the ground and so it must have been draining water down the side of the foundation, which then entered the basement in heavy storms and when the ground got saturated. I had the downspout fixed. Thinking that was my whole problem, I cancelled my contract with AquaGuard within the 3 day recission period. AquaGuard was professional about me cancelling the contract. No heavy handedness or pressure. Just a polite return e-mail acknowledging my cancellation notice. Well, as it turned out, with all of the heavy rain and storms we had this spring the downspout was not my entire problem. I flooded again with the very first heavy rainstorm at the end of February. So, I scheduled the AquaGuard installation right away. AquaGuard honored the original quoted price from December. They installed the system (about 55 lineal feet) in about 8 hours with a three man crew. The crew worked very fast and did a good job (P.S. to AquaGuard owner - splurge and buy your crew a tow-behind cement mixer for them to mix the mortar for the floor repair! Having them mix the mortar with a hoe and mortar pan is a ridiculous waste of time! I am sure the mixer would pay for itself.). They tried to minimize the damage to my finished walls by going under the sill plate that was fastened to the basement floor and upon which the vertical 2x4 studs were fastened. But the plate was too far out from the wall/cove. So, they had no choice but to take a reciprocating saw to the finished walls about a foot from the floor all the way around and remove the drywall, 2x4's, and sill plate. I expected they would have to do that but I appreciated them trying to avoid it. Fortunately, they also hauled all of the debris away, which I really appreciated. Overall, the crew worked hard and did a really good job. Also, Jim, the inspector who wrote the estimate came out in the morning at the start of the job to review the proposal/work with the crew to make sure they understood what they were doing as I had some unique issues with some built in cabinets along the one wall that the crew had to work around to minimize the destruction. What a messy job though! They used a big portable HEPA filter dust unit, which fortunately they could aim toward the basement door to blow some of the dust outside. But the dirt and dust is unavoidable. They key thing is my basement has been dry since March 18th! With all of the rain we have had I have had NO more flooding. Only minor problem I had was the discharge line from the sump pump to the outside had a minor leak, which AquaGuard came out and promptly fixed. I only wish I had done this years ago and saved myself all of the flooding headaches but this is one of those things where you have to prepare yourself for things to get worse (e.g. the destruction of your basement in the process!) before things get better (my now restored and dry basement!). If you can, this is definitely something you want to get done BEFORE you finish your basement! I would recommend AquaGuard for basement waterproofing.

I called for an appointment and they responded quickly and professionally and gave me a detailed and accurate estimate. This was one of three companies I asked for estimates. Their estimate, although expensive because of he amount of work that needed to be done, was the best possible fix for the problem and would guarantee against leaks for 30 years. The workers were friendly, courteous and worked very hard. They offered advice about other problems and saved whatever shrubs and plants they could. They made sure the area was safe every night while excavating down 8 feet in front of the house. Supervisors visited work site to help with any questions. The work was completed on time and exactly as described. I will (and did) recommend this company to anyone. Outstanding job and workers.
Description of Work: Repaired bowing, leaking, shifting wall in basement, installed new french drain, waterproofed exterior of wall, stabilized concrete block wall to prevent further movement, checked and repaired downspouts and gutter drain lines, replaced concrete porch, re-pointed all block wall cracks and pushed block wall back into position as much as possible.

Jim explained the whole process and system to me before starting to work on it. The crew came to do the job but the foundation was too strong at first. They had to come back with a jack hammer a few days later. We were forced to pay an extra $100 for the jackhammer rental, which they think we should own.

The owner of Aqua Guard returned my call promptly and kept me posted on the things they would do and gave me a quote on what was to be done to dry the basement. The men were on time, courteous and dedicated workers. There were no added charges, just what was quoted me. The owner stopped by to make sure everything was going as planned and the job was done in the time estimated for this job.
Description of Work: Basement waterproofing. The cement around the inside perimeter of the basement was broken up and the dirt was removed. Then pipe was laid in that area and filled in with gravel. They moved the existing sump pump to another corner of the basement, because of some previous pipe work that had been poorly done, pryor to them coming, and it was causing problems with the sewage drainage. They made sure this problem was totally taken care of before sealing the area with concrete. They also removed a very heavy old metal sink and discarded it for us. A machine was used to remove the dust from the air before it had a chance to go into the rest of the house. The concrete was replaced and a job well done. It was well explained to me about what they were going to do and everything was done in a timely manner as it was told to me.

AquaGuard told us they would start on Monday and finish Wed or Thurs. They finished around noon on Thursday. The crew was personable and obviously knew what they were doing. They cleaned up after themselves. When my husband and I called about some follow-up questions we got our answers, and they called us several weeks later to make sure we had no additional questions or concerns. Also, when they were estimating the work, they pointed out areas where we would have wasted our money having waterproofing done - rather than just charge us for unnecessary work. We would definitely do business with this company again, and we would recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: My house is approximately 100 years old. It is made of ceramic tile with sand mortar. Since we purchased this house 20 years ago, we had a need to run a dehumidifier in the basement during most of the year to prevent the house from being overwhelmed with that old basement smell. In addition, during bad rain storms or snow thaws, our basement would take on water. AquaGuard put in an internal french drain and 2 sump pumps. They also waterproofed our walls. The work that they did prevented the water from coming in during several storms this summer. Better yet, the house no longer smells bad - even when we don't run the dehumidifier, and that wetness that permeated the basement is entirely gone. And with paint the walls just look like rough plaster - which fits in nicely with the rest of the house. As a result I now have an additional floor of living space--without having to move I have doubled the useable space in my house!

Of the four people who came out to do an estimate, the rep for Aquaguard (Jim Haller) was the only one to search for the source of the problem - getting his hands dirty in the process. (Turns out our roof outlet was completely blocked. We had searched for it in the past to no avail, but he found it underground within seconds.) He gave us a long list of things we can do to improve the drainage around our house, thinking that with these improvements, we can avoid having a basement drainage system installed. He left without giving us a hard sell on his services and products, but told us to call if our improvements didn't solve the problem. I am SO incredibly impressed with Aquaguard's integrity!!!

Aquaguard was very responnsive and helpful in setting up the initial appointment. Mr. Gallagher (owner) arrived promptly at the prearranged time to provide a consultation on some dampness in the basement. Based on Mr. Gallagher's professional and candid opinion, I was able to determine that no work was required to fix the problem. Eventhough his visit to our house was not going to result in any business for his company, Mr. Gallagher was extremely generous with his expertise and his time. Based on this experience, I would recommend AquaGuard in the strongest terms.

Response from AquaGuard Systems Inc
AquaGuard Systems Inc. is responding to a recent posting from June Zhang and the inaccuracies within. She contacted our office so that we could provide an estimate on a foreclosed property she was looking to purchase. SHE DID NOT OWN THIS PROPERTY NOR DID WE DO WORK FOR HER. SHE RATED AQUAGUARD ON THE QUALITY OF WORK PERFORMED, LISTED A WORK COMPLETED ON DATE AND HIRE AGAIN STATUS. AQUAGUARD DID NOT PERFORM WORK FOR HER. The property she had AquaGuard evaluate was dilapidated and needed extensive work to bring it up to code. AquaGuard was extremely prompt in scheduling an appointment for her as well as a follow up appointment that was needed with our foreman because of the condition of the property. AquaGuard prides itself on the punctuality for appointments. We do not give window of time appointments. AquaGuard schedules appointments on the hour and arrives at scheduled appointment times. This particular property happened to be 2 miles away from the home of AquaGuard’s owner Tom Gallagher. As for the estimate AquaGuard provided, we believe it was fair based on industry standard and the type of work that needed to be performed. As for professionalism, AquaGuard has won Angie’s Lists 2009 Super Service Award for providing superior service to our customers. This means paying attention to the smallest of details and treating every customer like we want to be treated. AquaGuard also won the 2008 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics, an award that is given to the company who excels at customer service as well as providing quality work at a fair price. These awards did not happen by accident, they are based on providing this level of service for the last 20 years in the Pittsburgh area.

25 bricks in the front of my home had been removed to put this system in. I was horrified. I was never told that they would be removing any bricks. He was very rude with me when I asked what he had done. The Humidex system is supposed to be 5 ft from your furnace. He just slapped concrete on my house that did not match the rest of the house. I called the owner and told him I needed him to come and make it right. He assured me that Rick, who had done the work on my house, would never work for him again though he does. They sent a guy out and I could smell alcohol on his breath. The front of my house, about 25 bricks looks a mess. I wouldn't use this company again even with a life long guarantee.
Description of Work: The system in the basement was working alright. They kept advertising a humidifier. They said instead of getting a de humidifier get a Humidex system.

Response from AquaGuard Systems Inc
AquaGuard is responding to a posting made by her 2 1/2 years after services were performed. AquaGuard installed 127 feet of interior waterproofing system, 2 automatic sump pumps, one rain leader and one Humidex on November 12, 2007. A Humidex was installed as part of the waterproofing project and she was completely satisfied with this waterproofing system. What she did not like was the location of the exhaust opening. It had to be installed through the foundation of her home. The system was installed and worked well. Her home had very unusual brick that was extremely difficult to match, but, after locating brick to match, it was done as closely as possible and to the customers' satisfaction. The office staff at AquaGuard did however go above and beyond customer satisfaction taking numerous, lengthy phone calls from her about issues not related to her project such as animals in need, the Humane Society and her Mother's ailing health. For the last 2 1/2 years though, and since all work was completed, as far as AquaGuard knew, she was happy with the system and the work performed since we have not had any phone calls to the contrary. AquaGuard strives to provide and takes pride in our quality workmanship at a fair, reasonable price. We feel we were able to do that for her.

Aquaguard arrived on the day they said they would. They had to trench along one entire side of my house. The excavation was 37 feet long by 4 feet wide by 6 feet deep. It went below the foundation footer. The gentleman working the excavator was an artist. He was working in extremely tight quarters and on a 45 degree slope and was quiet and as neat as one could be considering what he was doing. The excavation took a day and a half. About 20 % of the excavation had to be done with pick and shovel and muscle. On the third day, a waterproof coating was applied to the foundation by a subcontractor. The job was finished on the fourth day when the French Drain pipe was installed and the trench was backfilled with stone. The surface of the trench was finished off with top soil and swaled. All of the excess earth was removed from the property and a thorough clean up was performed. My basement hasn't leaked since! I used to hate it when it rained because I knew my basement would be awash. I enjoy the rain now. It is like having a new house. Thank you, Aquaguard!
Description of Work: My house has had multiple foundation leaks along one side of my basement for 30 years, bad ones. On June 17, 2009 my basement flooded because of the multiple leaks. I have had a hard time finding a company that would waterproof my basement because of the outside terrain. Aquaguard stated that they would put a French Drain along the entire exterior problem side of my house and the leaking would stop.
