ys,
Description of Work: The pilot light on my 45-year old+ Vulcan gas range, acquired in my catering days, would not stay lighted. When it did, the burners ignited but eventually went out because the pilot light died. This happened 2 weeks ago and with a loud boom, my oven door blew open with sparks trailing. Talk about frightening experiences! I contacted Vulcan who recommended 3 repair services in the Pittsburgh area. Two did not respond; the third—MTS Sales & Service in Bethel Park said they only dealt with commercial vendors and would not come to my residence. They told me to call Don's Appliance who in turn said they didn't repair Vulcan ranges. Pilot light? Thermo couple? How difficult is it to deal with this problem. I was not dealing with rocket science. I finally joined Angie's list and found Andrew's Range Service. I was scheduled for Friday, my day off from work. He came and within minutes said the pilot light needed to be adjusted; adjusted it, then checked the burners on the stovetop. He cleaned the holes on several of the burners and deemed my range as good as new and that it looked like new. Overall , the service was excellent. I highly recommend Mr. Andrews and would call him again. This man is a jewel. Helen Worsing

It was an all around good experience. They were great from the time they answered the phone until the time they left. Reputable company.
Description of Work: They repaired a dishwasher the first time and repaired a refrigerator the second time.

Went great. They asked me to provide photos and serial number before they visited to save them a trip and save me some money. We couldn't find the serial number, so they had to make two trips, but they would have anyway to remove some parts to recondition them. They were always punctual and interactions were friendly. They were able to fix everything that needed to be fixed. Absolutely satisfied with the service.
Description of Work: We have an old (1920s?) gas stove and range that needed some attention. The broiler was not working, the handles to both the stove and the broiler had broken, as had several knobs for the burners, and one burner was not lighting. Otherwise it was a beautiful old stove and we wanted to keep it. So we asked Andrew's to give it an overhaul and fix everything.

This is the kind of repair person you want coming into your home.
Description of Work: Gas stove/oven starter not working. Needed a part repaired. They were able to get out to me within a day or so. Took less than an hour to repair, and he made sure I knew what was replaced and where it was located on the stove.

One by one, the coils on top of my old range stopped working. Since the oven and the general condition of the stove were good, I decided to repair it rather then buy a new one if the cost was acceptable...and if I could find someone willing to work on a stove that age. I found that person in Walter who specializes in old stoves (over 20 years old). During the first visit, he diagnosed the problems and repaired the first two coils. About a week later, after the replacements came in, we scheduled a second visit, and he finished the job to my great satisfaction. I now have a stove that will probably outlast me.
Description of Work: Walter replaced two coils on my 1958 Frigidaire electric range and repaired the other two.

Walt did an excellent job. The repair required 3 visits. On the first visit, he diagnosed the problem and then came back on the second visit with the tools he needed. After the second visit, he had 2 of the of the 3 burners working, but had to build a part to get the third burner working. He came back one last time to install the part.
Description of Work: Cleaned out the gas lines in an old commercial six-burner gas stove in my home. Got three burners which wouldn't come on working again. This required blowing out the gas lines with compressed air and making a new part.

Since the oven is from the 1960's, I'd looked for a company with many years of experience. The first company I called recommended Andrew's since they specialize in older ovens & ranges. I called late in the day and left a message. My call was returned promptly the next morning. The woman took the oven make and model number and called the next day saying Walt could be there by 10 AM. He was on time and had the door fixed within 30 minutes. He also gave me instructions on how fix it again if I needed to remove the door for some reason and the problem resurfaced. He was a very nice person and I would not hesitate to call him again!
Description of Work: I had "sprung" the door on my electric oven by leaning on it while trying to replace the light bulb. The door no longer closed completely and was bumping against one side of the oven. Walt removed the oven door and repaired it quickly.

He was very good. He was also prompt and explained what he was doing. He put in a new thermostat & gold coil and he checked to make sure they were working properly. I would use him again.
