Very well. They were very responsive to follow up questions of instruction, and made a followup visit by request to re-demonstrate how to operate the starter.

It didn't go at all. We called them twice and they didn't even bother to call us back. They have a fancy website, but poor customer service.

Everything went exceptionally well. Mike, who was very easy to work with, showed up before Christmas to show us some options and take measurements. The estimate he provided was prompt and exact. We didn't call American Chimney and Fireplace until late January to accept the bid and were surprised when they were able to install the system in less than two weeks of our acceptance (and this included time for ordering the fireplace). Installation took less than a day, was done beautifully and professionally. We are delighted with our fireplace and with American Chimney and Fireplace. Highly recommended.

Mike came out to give us an estimate and offered some great suggestions and advice about our existing fireplace as well as the one we were hoping to install. It was a tricky installation in some ways--they had to run a new vent up a nearly demolished chimney and had to run a gas line though another cramped space. We were extremely impressed with their professionalism and work. They completed the entire installation in one day and got the fireplace in just before Christmas. We couldn't have been happier with the work they provided and will definitely use them for all of our fireplace work in the future.

I called to get a bid, a guy answered and seemed aggravated I called. I explained what I needed and here's how the conversation proceeded: Where do you live? -Irwin- We charge a fee to drive there. -What's the fee?- 150 dollars -You charge 150 dollars to give me a bid? Yes -Well I guess I'm not interested then. Then I got the dial tone.

This was actually my second experience with American Chimney. Approx 4 years ago they came and installed a gas fireplace. They did a great job! This time - I noticed a gassy odor when using my fireplace. I called and could not remember for sure if they were the company who had originally installed it. The woman looked me up while I was on the phone with her ... and Yes they remembered our house! They were on vacation and not sure when they could get to us. I said not a problem - I just was not using the fireplace until we could be sure it was ok. They called back a few days later and asked if they could come out that next weekend. They came out and checked the fireplace - cleaned it (which I had never done). They were on time, courteous and fixed it quick! We were only charged for a fireplace "check-up" and the fireplace works great! I would highly recommend.

They came in the morning and covered the floor and all my belongings before they started the work. I didn't hover over them while the work was being done. They called me downstairs a couple of times while they were working. Once to let me know they were going to lunch. Another time to inform me that my gas meter had a leak. (The gas company came to replace the meter.) The last time to tell me that they were done with the work and give me a tutorial on how to operate the remote control. The insert looks beautiful and adds so much to my room. The room was cleaned up, any debris was disposed of and any thing that they had to move was put back into place. I got a follow up call that evening and was told to call if there were any issues. It was overall a good experience.

We have a duel chimney system. One is for the fireplace and one is for the furnace. They had to correct the whole flu system. They did excellent work. It is clean and neat. You can barely even tell anything was done. They came out and went through what they had to step by step. When they left everything was neat and clean. The work was well done.

Very happy with their work. Very professional. Mike was a pleasure to work with.

The techs were on time. They were the most courteous techs that have ever worked in my house. They answered my questions and cleaned up completely when they were done.

A job was not performed yet. The estimate process was excellent.

I emailed from Angie's list in mid December requesting an appointment. a week later I received an email saying they were "way too busy" before the holiday and could not get to us until after the 1st of the year. I said no problem and they offered to get in touch with me after the 1st of the year. Because I did not hear from them I sent an email follow up on January 11th and received an auto response email stating the office was closed until January 5th but to "get back in touch with us after the 5th".

Very poorly. Called and spoke with someone in their office on Tuesday morning and explained that we wanted an estimate for repairs to a wood-burning fireplace in a home we are buying. Explained we were on a tight timeframe. They didn't call us back until Thursday afternoon and then they said there was no way they could fit us into their schedule any time soon, even for an estimate. They were very unresponsive and not at all professional on the phone. I honestly have no idea how they've received "A's" in the past. I would never consider even consider letting them submit a bid ever again.

I contacted this company for chimney repair work, and Mike scheduled to come to my home on Saturday, August 7. About an hour before the appointment, I received a call stating that Mike would not be able to make the appointment, and that my appointment would be rescheduled. It is now a month later, and I have even called them asking to reschedule, but they have not yet contacted me to reschedule my appointment. I do not expect a call, unless they read and respond to this report - I notice they are very active in explaining themselves here on Angie's List when people complain about their services. If they spent half as much time calling back people who are willing to be paying customers as they do responding to complains on this site, there probably would be no issues. Please note that there are other customer reports recently complaining about not getting calls back, so this must not be an isolated occurrence. I know this company used to be highly rated, but it seems things have changed there recently.

I set up an appointment for Mike to come to my house on a Saturday morning to look at my chimneys to determine what repairs were needed. I received a call from his wife at 6:45 am that day, canceling the appt because Mike "had a sinus infection", and stating that they would be back in touch with me to reschedule. It's been two weeks now and I have not heard back from them. If this is a reflection of their service when they are on the job, this is not someone I want to hire.

Mike came out and gave me an estimate 2 days after i called. The estimate came in the mail 2 days later. I called Mike to set up an appointment and we had to wait for my special order log set to come in. Once they arrived Mike scheduled me the next day. He arrived at 8:00am like he said and him and two other workers took the utmost care of my house and property while working. Drop cloths were used and special care was given to make sure nothing got dusty or damaged (flat screen tv, new couches, carpet.) The crew got right to work and completed the installation problem free at 2:00PM. Mike is very knowledgeable and took extra to make sure I knew how to use the fireplace and every setting. He made sure I knew all the safety information and we can’t believe how nice the gas log system has warmed our game room

I had gotten an estimate from Mike in February 2009. At that time, he discovered a gas leak in the existing gas line to the fireplace, which he capped. He also cleaned out the fireplace. He gave me an estimate for the cost of a vent-free gas log system with logs that the prior owners of our house purchased as well as an estimate for a set of new vent-free gas logs in case the ones that were already here did not work. In addition, Mike explained that we would need a deflector hood across the fireplace opening to compensate for there being less than 6 inches of facing. I called Mike in late November to say we were ready to move forward with the installation, and he was able to schedule me within 2.5 weeks. Mike was extremely responsive each time I called. The morning of the job, he even called to say he was running 10 minutes late. He came with two other workers, and it took them about three hours to install a new gas line, set up the old logs, and install the deflector hood. In addition, Mike spent extra time working to get the remote control that went with the existing logs to work, which was proved to be challenging. He was persistent and eventually got it to work. We are extremely pleased with the final product and the professionalism of the company.

Got a call back from the owner Mike. Told me what to check, stayed on the phone while i did the check myself. However does NOT work on the type of gas fireplace that i have, parts are very hard to find. Seems like he knows his stuff. If we ever replace our present fireplace with a new one, we will give him a call.

responded promptly to my request for estimate and responded with written estimate detailing the work. arrived on date we had set and work was completed in 2 days . did a few extra things like replacing brick where a stone was missing and sealed fireplace damper without extra charge. when they were done both days everything was cleaned so well you would have never known they were here. mike was great to deal with and his staff was extremely professional and friendly-even helped me catch my puppy when she got out.

Mike arrived very quickly to give estimate etc and installation took place as agreed and in most professional manner. Installers were good, curteous and conscious of cleanup. worked quickly.

Mike was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and punctual. He cleaned out our fireplace and explained how the gas, ceramic log system works. He let us know there was some improper installation and detailed what we'd need to do to rectify it (install a hood). In trying to get the system to work, we discovered that the remote control was non-operable and that the gas pipe feeing the system was leaking. Mike returned later that day amid a very busy schedule to cut off and cap the pipe to stop the leak. Unfortunately, due to the remote control not working and no longer having a gas line to feed the logs, we were not able to get the fireplace working. We received an estimate from Mike about a week after his visit detailing the costs entailed to get the fireplace working again. We will likely call Mike to complete this work next Fall.

I left messages with 3 fireplace contractors found on AngiesList. 2 of the 3 called back. Mike Kravas was the only one who actually showed up. He was prompt and knowledgable. He went through the fireplace options and explained them all very thoroughly including what we could do to keep the original fireplaces. At the time Mike visited, we were planning a major renovation. We then hired a General Contractor for the renovation and requested that American Chimney and Fireplace provide our new fireplace. American Chimney removed the old fireplace. Installation of the new fireplace included running a completely new larger flue up from the second floor living room through the third and fourth floors to the roof and installation of new gas valve. Mike's crew accomplished all of the work in amazingly quick time of 2 days. It was a flurry of activity to say the least!

Mike came to my house earlier in the summer and not only did he give me an estimate, he actually understood the problem behind the peeling bricks and cracking mortar. Where two other contractors were simply going to re-brick the top 7 rows, Mike investigated and discovered that I had a bigger moisture problem because I had an improper liner in the chimney for venting my furnace. Mike's estimate was a little above the two other bids but I understood what he was going to do and it made total sense. And he was doing a bit more work than the other two proposed. I was very confident in his work and his crew and feel his estimate was justified. The only issue someone may have is the wait time. Because he is good, American Chimney had a lot of jobs lined up last summer. Mike was up front about the time line. He gave me an estimate in June and told me flat out he was booked for the next month or so. I was willing to wait and glad I did. His crew was on time and very professional. If I have masonry issues in the future I will not hesitate to hire him again. Others on here said that he was over priced but I feel that his understanding of the problems and solutions truly saved me money down the road. p.s. - his crew did a nice job on color-matching the mortar
