We had them complete our pre closing inspection. They missed that the chimney was severely damaged and needs replaced entirely. This is a huge expense and instead of living up to their $10,000 garauntee (which still wouldn't cover the cost but would certainly help) they simply fell off with communication. I've had two chimney companies agree. The guy never even got up on the roof.

Alltech inspected our house on the recommendation of our realtor. He gave the roof a good condition rating, without actually climbing on the roof at all. If he were to have climbed on the roof, he would have noticed the missing shingles around the bathroom skylight. I found out that the shingles were missing only after the bathroom roof had become completely saturated during the winter. We ultimately had to hire a roofer who replaced about 6 foot of the roof rafter due to rot and the insulation and drywall due to mold. The roofer informed me that this took a while to rot this bad, so I am sure that the shingles came loose before the inspection.

I hired Tom from Alltech Inspection Services as he was recommended by the Caldwell Concierge program. I had a newly renovated 100-yr home (complete gut work) which was being sold by the developer (E-Properties) in Lawrenceville. Tom arrived promptly and was very helpful in walking me through all of the areas and making sure I understood them. I could tell that he's an experienced home inspector and pointed out many, many things that were wrong with the property and areas where the developer has done things incorrectly, cut-corners, and areas I needed to keep an eye on as they finished up the work. Tom took his time and was very thorough with the home inspection process. Only drawback was that Tom only does inspections on areas he can see and easily access and will not go on the roof or into crawl spaces. Because there were over 4 pages of issues, I ended up bringing him back 2 additional times to re-inspect the remediation efforts and to ensure that the developer had completed them.Only negative that I have is that because Tom is quite busy, it appeared that the level of detail for follow up visits and the subsequent write-ups were rather poor and lacked the detail in some areas. As this property has almost 4 pages of issues in the initial report, I would have appreciated a detailed follow up write up to bring closure to areas remediated and highlighting additional items as well. However, I understand this was not a usual home inspection and the difficulty of inspecting this property and I will say that I was very pleased with the overall experience.

We had a great experience with Tom and Alltech. We contacted Alltech from the BBB and web reviews. Tom was very detailed in his inspection and pointed out a lot of items in the home inspection. Tom gave us some great ideas for plans thaat we had. He arrived early and was inspecting the roof, on the roof, when we arrived. We followed Tom around and asked tons of questions. He always answered the questions fully and knew what he was talking about. The inspection took about 2 1/2 hours. We got our report the next day. We have a web site with all the pictures from the inspection to back up his findings. It was a great great experience. I would recommend tom to my friends and family!!

Tom was very sweet and explained everything to us. The only two complaints I would have is that we confirmed our appt twice (once through the realtor and once through me directly) for a specific day and time and rearranged our work schedules. We got a call a day earlier that the inspection was done and he wondered where we were. Not sure where the miscommunication happened but it was pretty significant. In addition, it was $50.00 to do a visual pest inspection, which to me seems like that could have been done during the walk through. Seemed like an unnecessary additional charge. However, he met us the next day and spent 2 hours going over everything with us and explained things in detail and encouraged us to ask questions. I would definitely recommend him. He's down to earth and seems genuinely interested and does it full time as opposed to on the side, plus we didn't know and found out that he is a partner in the firm so we felt even better. Tom's been in the business 20 years plus and comes from a solid background. He doesn't make you feel rushed and overall I would definitely recommend him to family and friends.

This house inspector is not trustworthy. He performed an inspection and we were promised a detailed report. Well, over a month went by and no report. I then contacted him and he said he would look into it and get back to me and he never did. I then contacted him again and spoke to his assistant who got him to call me back. They lost my report information. So he had to then come back again and do another inspection and when he sent the report, he sent me the incorrect information. He claimed our deck was not attached to the house correctly, but when he was in the basement, he could have looked to see the bolts. Shouldn’t an inspector know this information?. He then apologized for messing up so much with my account and promised me a refund. But of course, he has never sent it to me. Keep in mind my check was cashed immediately. I contacted him by email to inquire about my refund and he has not answered it. This inspector's information concerns me because if this is how he runs a business, then he obviously does not know what he is doing. I can understand a mistake, but to constantly make them with the same account, proves he is incompetent. He wasted my time twice and gave me information, which of course is of no value, because you don’t know if he has kept up with his education and knowledge and just talks his way through inspections.

We hired Tom at the recommendation of our realtor. Although Tom did find some things wrong, he either was not qualified to inspect roofing, or did not take the time to properly inspect ours. There were gaps in the trim, improperly cut drip edges, uncaulked windows, exposed nail heads, and a rotting window sill on the upper level. All of these were clearly in view, and easily noticed. To be fair, I contacted Tom and told him what three roofing specialists had found. Each specialist identified the same exact issues, independent of each other, within minutes of being on the roof. I asked Tom to come out to review what they had found and allow him to explain why he had missed these issues, which were causing water to enter the house. My hope was that he would be decent enough to admit he missed the issues, and refund at least some of our money. Tom ensured me each time we spoke that he would be out, but made absolutely no effort to schedule an appointment with me. With a rainy spring, and two months of calling him, I could not wait to have him return, and the repairs totaled $1,785.00.

We depend on Tom Schiedler regularly for accurate and detailed inspections. He does not let us down!
Description of Work: I am a Realtor who has utilized Tom Scheidler at Alltech literally Dozens of times for Home Inspections, Pest Inspections, Radon Tests and Structural Inspections. So many of our clients have been very happy with the service that I have lost count! One of the main reasons that we recommend Tom is that he is a structural engineer while very few inspectors have any level of certification to compare. Tom does not rush through inspections. He takes as much time as is necessary to answer any / all questions for the home buyers. He is also very good about making himself available for questions anytime after the inspection. The bottom line is this: I am not talking about one individual experience.... I'm talking about many very satisfied customers (both home buyers and sellers). He goes above and beyond normal expectations on a regular basis.

After I purchased the house a friend's brother (HVAC guy) came over to look my furnace over. He immediately saw 2 cracks to the heat exchanger. This was verified by a different HVAC guy that I called in to look. The cracks are clearly visible. I am requesting my money back along with all additional costs needed to fix the problem.
Description of Work: I payed to have a home inspection, radon test, and pest inspection. Tom did not see the 2 cracks in my heat exchanger.

Tom Shidler inspected the home. He missed many problems in the home, including a serious moisture problem in the roof & exterior wall that required a new roof shortly after purchase. He failed to go up on the roof & overemphasized an unimportant point about bathtub caulking. On my first walk-through, I popped the attic hatch but didn't have a tall enough ladder to see how much insulation was up there, so I asked him to make it a point to look. His final report stated that "no attic inspection was performed because there was no access". I was very, very unhappy with the inspection &, because of the clear professional breach regarding the roof, came close to initiating legal action.

TOO EARLY TO TELL. I USUALLY FIND PROBLEMS AFTER 12 MONTHS IN THE HOUSE THEY INSPECT. COMPARED TO OTHER INSPECTORS WITH THE SAME SERVICES (INSPECTION, PEST, & RADON), THESE ARE THE CHEAPEST. THEY OFFERED REPORTS BOTH ON PAPER AND ELECTRONICALLY - WE LIKED THE ELECTRONIC COPIES (EASY TO COPY, TRANSFER, AND STORE).
Description of Work: INSPECTOR WAS VERY PUNCTUAL AND AFFABLE. OFFERED MANY, BALANCED EXPLANATIONS. I RECEIVED A REPORT FROM INSPECTION WITHIN 2 DAYS. RADON REPORT WAS DELAYED DUE TO DELAYS FROM SELLERS - MONITOR WAS RETREIVED ON FRIDAY, REPORT OFFERED BY MONDAY. TERMITE INSPECTION WAS SENT TO OUR REALTOR - WE NEVER RECEIVED A COPY (I RECEIVED MY COPY FROM OUR REAL ESTATE AGENT).

THE INSPECTOR ARRIVED 30 MINUTES LATE AFTER WE CALLED THE COMPANY TO FIND OUT WHERE HE WAS. ALSO, WE WERE QUOTED A TWO-DAY TURN AROUND TIME FOR THE REPORT. WE CALLED AFTER THE 4TH DAY AND WERE THEN TOLD IT WAS A 2 BUSINESS DAY TURN-AROUND. THE INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED SATISFACTORILY, HOWEVER, DURING THE INSPECTION, THE INSPECTOR STATED THAT REAL ESTATE AGENTS LIKED HIM BECAUSE HE WASN'T A "DEAL-BREAKER". THAT DIDN'T SIT WELL WITH US SINCE IT IS HIS JOB TO FIND THINGS THAT LAY PEOPLE CANNOT FIND, WHETHER IT BREAKS THE DEAL OR NOT. HIS APPEARANCE, DEMEANOR, AND WORK (IN GENERAL) WERE GOOD.
