First, Ed provided a detailed estimate and took us to see several similar projects he had completed. Our old dilapidated porch (screened and with a roof) on the backside of our home needed to be torn down and hauled away. A dumpster was provided, all material had to be hauled uphill. For the new deck (with roof) new foundations for the support beams were cast, the 10' x 20' base was installed and covered with treated wooden boards. The existing steps to the outside were incorporated in the construction. A railing was added on three sides with an exit via the stairs on the side. The roof is closed on the underside (ceiling) and a fan was installed as well as a light on the wall. Since the new roof had a lower angle than the old one, the siding on the entire side of the upper story of the house needed to be replaced. This included insulation and repairs for insect damage. All exposed wood was treated with water seal. Further, in our entrance hallway cracks were filled and repaired and the door was planed to make it close more easily. Also, an old rail fence was removed and taken away. Ed and his team worked diligently and were helpful in any way they could. They freely gave advice and suggestions. They were easy to work with.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose of old porch and replace with a new deck. Replace siding.

Gradually over the last eight years, I have discovered through other contractors that nothing was completed correctly as written in the contract. My first discovery was from a handyman. The gable vents were intended for a frame house and mine is brick. They were nailed into a masonry surface and fell off. The second discovery was from a contractor completing an estimate for new gutters. He cleaned out about two buckets-full of nails and old shingles. Just prior to this discovery, I had water leaking in through a bay window and in the garage. Last and certainly not least, I hired a contractor to fix parts of the roof which were sagging. The old wood was never replaced and instead, roofers from Allstate added extra shingles to build up the sagging parts of the roof. They used an adhesive to keep the wood and top shingles from separating which is why it took five years to discover. I hired a roofer to replace the old wood and re-shingle the roof in spots. He then had to support the entire roof from the attic crawl space. Otherwise, I would have to replace a seven year old roof.
Description of Work: The services listed on the contract included removal of the old roof, replacing any bad wood, flashing chimneys, installing new sleeves over vent pipes, install ice and weather shield in front of gutters, replace gable vents and install new Owens Corning 30 year seal down architectural roof shingles over the entire roof area as well as clean up.

I was very displeased with the work he did because he only painted half of what he was supposed to. After he left, I called him and he never came back. He also left everything a big mess.
Description of Work: He replaced some shingles and siding that were damaged. He also painted the siding.
