 + -1 moreI called M.J. Flaherty on Saturday explaining that my furnace was working intermittently, and that it currently wasn't working, and the temperature was 57 in my house. They said they would send someone out on Tuesday and would call me Monday evening to let me know when they would be coming. I called them Tuesday morning to find out when they would arrive, only to be told that "he's not in the office, I don't know what his schedule is today." Crickets all day. Called again Wednesday morning, this time, "He's at a school that doesn't have heat, I'm not sure if he'll be able to make it." Again, no word. Called again on Thursday morning, "he's not in the office, I'll have to call him, and I'll call you back." Never heard back from anyone. It's Friday, and I still haven't heard back from anyone. Not a good way to run your business. If you're swamped, say so. Don't leave someone with no heat for almost a week! There's apparently a reason that they're not rated with the BBB or Angi's.

 + -1 moreTim provided expert professional advice and workmanship. In addition to his superior work, we followed his advice to deter water from going into the basement. After all the work was done, no more water! We even carpeted the basement. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Installed better fittings on the downspouts to better control rainwater flow from gutters. Also raised the air conditioner unit to keep water from pooling and going in the basement.

 + 0 moreI called Flaherty for someone to put a video camera down the drainage pipes where my downspouts empty. They only have one person who does the video work, so I had to wait a couple of weeks until he was available. Since it wasn't an emergency, I didn't mind waiting. Tim came out and put the video camera down both drainage pipes. One was blocked completely with mud and sloped toward the foundation instead of away from it. The other pipe had a separation where it should have connected to the main drainage pipe. Tim gave me my options and we decided to replace the section of pipe that was completely blocked. The other problem was remedied by bypassing the separated pipe with a length of corrugated pipe and a length of plastic pipe. The digging began on a Wednesday, and the plumber dug down about 2 feet in both areas. He dug most of the day and made the connection on the front drainage pipe. He came back on Friday and did the connection on the back drainage pipe. Then he filled in both areas with the soil that had been removed. He solved both drainage issues and did not have to remove my mature Azalea shrub or my Spirea shrub. Overall, I was very pleased with the work done by Flaherty Plumbing.
Description of Work: Diagnose downspout drainage problem that was causing mold on interior basement walls.

 + -1 moreFound the leak to be coming from cold water line in second floor bath from pipes buried in concrete. Had to open ceiling in kitchen and then install new pipes to second floor bath by rerouting them. Installed new hot and cold water pipes from basement to second floor bath for sink, commode and tub/shower installing new valves at each location. Panels were then put over the kitchen ceiling and wall to cover the repairs. Work was done in timely manner and work location was cleaned up when they finished working for the day. Left the premises just as they found them when the started the work.
Description of Work: Found and repaired leak from second floor bathroom pipes.

 + 0 moreThe work went fine. The tech was in and out in 2 hours. $287 is a much higher price than is justified in 2 hours. Additionally, the tech handed me an "emergency work authorization form" which I was required to sign, even though the work performed was not an emergency. This is poor professionalism on the part of Flaherty plumbing and, combined with the pricing ($150/hour), will cause me to find another plumber the next time. This work was not an emergency. As noted, it was scheduled.
Description of Work: Contacted on 10/13 to clean out difficult bathroom clogs. Service performed on 10/15. Service was solid, tech was professional.

 + 1 moreWe had an emergency on a Friday afternoon. The existing expansion tank on our water heater separated at a solder joint which sprayed water all over our laundry room. Our water heater was replaced about 5 years ago by a different plumbing company. When we called that plumbing company, they were not flexible with scheduling a repairman and suggested we call someone else.. wow! We called MJ Flaherty for an appointment and received a courteous and professional response. Gary came promptly at 9AM Saturday morning. He explained what he was going to do before he started the job. He explained that the existing expansion tank was over-sized and not properly installed. He recommended a properly sized expansion tank for a 50 gallon capacity water heater. He replaced the copper lines where the expansion tank was installed - very well done. Within an hour, Gary had everything completed. He left the area clean.

 + -1 moreMr. Flaherty came out at first to look at the area and give me an estimate. I have used him for other plumbing needs in the past as have my parents and sisters. He was very kind, knowledgeable, and professional as he always is. The estimate was at the higher end but not the highest of the estimates I got but I chose to go with it because I trust Mr. Flaherty and the people who work for him to do the job right. The estimate was given in the winter but because it was such a cold winter and there were a lot of people with plumbing emergencies the work wasn't done until the beginning of April. This delay was not a problem for me because I had told Mr. Flaherty that I wasn't in a hurry and had been told that with the winter being so bad they may not get to it until later. Once started, the work was done quickly and beautifully and the men always cleaned up when they were finished. I will continue to use MJ Flaherty plumbing for any needs that I have.
Description of Work: Took out old cast iron bathtub, ceramic tile and wall board, put in a new bathtub, tub and shower faucet, and a new waste and overflow trap, and prepared the area for new tile (tile was done by Dan Imling who was recommended to me by Mr. Flaherty).

 + -1 moreThe office called and said one of the servicemen will call me and let me know when to expect him. He called and said that he would be there after lunch. He was on time, assessed the problem and proceeded to make the repair. He was neat ant thorough and did a nice job. I told him to get me an estimate and making repairs to the drains so that I would not have the problem in the future. Am waiting on the estimate and will probably have the work done in the near future.

The only problem was the delay of completion of the project due to the flooding we had in our area at the time. Everything is functioning without problems. I am happy with the results.

 + -1 moreThe plumber (Jayson) was super nice and very informative. The work that he performed went well and there were no surprises. While I realize that Jayson doesn't make the prices, I definitely got had. He looked at our toilet and recommended a wax ring to be replaced (while I completely agreed w/him). I then asked him how much that would be and when he said over $200, it almost took 10 yrs off of my life. One of the more expensive wax rings that I could find online, was $11 (and I'm sure the one that would've been used would've been one of the $4 ones). While I don't think this would take 4+ hrs. However, let's say it did take 4 hrs, that would be about $50 an hr for labor. I am definitely feeling like I have been robbed. The only positive that I got out of this was: valuable information out of the plumber and a shower handle that doesn't leak. Oh yeah, Jayson had this wrapped up in about 1 hr. So, I am sure that this hr rate was in the ballpark of: $200.00. The packing, washers and seats couldn't have been more than $13 - $15. I was half tempted for Jayson to call the owner and have him take care of the wax ring as well to be included on that price of $213.
Description of Work: Rebuilt General 2 handle, both sides (no stems). Replaced: seats, washers, and packing on hot/cold sides of the master shower.

 + -1 moreI used to use Flaherty Plumbing, they were excellent plumbing. I definitely trust them with all my plumbing and I've had tons of plumbing thousands of times. He put in a new bathroom shower and all the mechanics in it. We just call him all the time because we bought a house and which is one plumbing junk and I think he has really cleaned everything up, we had several other plumbers and they really blow up on the price. The last time was major work and he was here all day. Any major plumbing and I trust him a hundred percent. Anything that's done hasn't had to be redone.
Description of Work: I use M J Flaherty Plumbing & Heating, Inc. for a new bathroom shower and all the mechanics in it as well as for all my plumbing.

 + -1 moreTough post. We didn't think highly of the first person that came. The experience was not good. However, after contacting the owner, he showed a significant interest in making things right. He came out personally, adjusted the prices in line with what we both agreed was fair, and fixed the things the first man was unable to fix. If you can get the owner, I recommend. If you can't ... well I would only put them on par with anyone else out there. Hard to replace passion and wisdom.

 + 1 moreThe above example is just one of many good experiences I have had with Flaherty Plumbing. They are professional, responsive and they do the job right. I wouldn't consider using anyone else.
Description of Work: I did not find Flaherty Plumbing through Angie's list. I have used them for years. But since they are an Angie's list professional, I would like to review them. I use Flaherty for all of my plumbing and heating services. I won't even consider an Angie's Deal on someone else because I couldn't improve on them. They are competent, efficient, reasonably priced and responsive. The service performed on 8/23/12 is an example of their responsiveness. I was preparing to leave for vacation on the morning of 8/24/12. When I went into my basement early in the evening of 8/23/12, I discovered that 6-8 ceiling tiles in my newly remodeled game room (see Don Kahler review) had collapsed into a mushy mess on my newly installed carpet and water was dripping from the exposed ceiling. The problem was a refrigerator ice maker in the kitchen above that was to have been fixed with the installation of a new ice maker valve which obviously didn't fix the problem. I called Flaherty Plumbing and Mr. Flaherty himself was at my house by 8:30 PM. He created a shutoff on the water line to my refrigerator and said he would be back first thing in the morning of the day we returned from vacation...and he was. This time it was one of his plumbers who installed a permanent shut off valve so the water couldn't leak. (I am still waiting for the refrigerator to be repaired.)
