In contrast to many of the other people who do this work, Thompson's has someone who answers the phone and makes an appointment for an estimate. I was especially pleased with the thoroughness of the explanation of the work given by Mike, who did the estimate. I especially appreciated the how he explained in detail some of the problems that might come up, for example, that my basement stairs would have to be ripped out, and that my laundry sink would probably need to be replaced. The vendor I spoke with before tended to gloss over what the work would actually be like. Once the work started I saw that both these things had to be done, but I really appreciated knowing about it BEFORE the work started. The price was good so I signed up. I was pleased with the progress of the actual job, supervised by Danny. The crew worked long hours, were pleasant and easy to deal with, and finished the job up quickly. I was particularly impressed with the support after the job was finished. In the process of disconnecting and reconnecting the laundry sink, the plumber took one look at the 70 year old lead drain pipe and told me that it might get cracked in the process. He was correct! But I was very pleased with the response. Jeff, the general manager, sent someone out right away to bust up a big section of the cement floor to expose the cracked pipe. The plumber came in and fixed the pipe and a few days later another Thompson's crew came out to cover the area up with fresh cement. It all went very smoothly with no extra charge from Thompson's. One other nice feature, by the way, is the fact that the Thompson's warranty can be transferred when you sell your house. So the takeaway is this: getting a channel drain installed is a messy, noisy, dusty job, but Thompson's made it a better experience than it might have been.

Thompson's initially began this work early in 2013. After their first attempt at making the repair, I was impressed with their price and service. It was downhill after that. They had to return around nine times, I believe, before the repair was totally completed. Essentially, I had large hole in my drywall from February through August while they returned time and again to stop the leak. Often, one guy who came out would comment on how the previous guy had done it incorrectly. Calling them each time their repair failed was something I began to dread. They often made me feel like they thought I was an idiot. I would call to let them know I was still seeing evidence of a leak, and they'd tell me to wait a week, a month, etc. to "let the concrete dry." We did this repeatedly over six months or so. One time, during a heavy downpour, I had water running into my house. This was after many repair attempts. The only thing I can give them credit for is continuing to come out until the repair was done, and not charging me anything more. They also had to expand the type of repair (which they should have done on the first visit) which would have been more costly, but because they'd put me through months of incompetence, they did not charge me for the additional scope. Overall it was a terrible experience, and I do not recommend their services. I still worry their repair will fail and find myself checking the area often. At least if if does, there is a lifetime warranty, but that won't pay for all the collateral damage, drywall repairs, etc. that could happen if it ever leaks again. There are other basement waterproofing companies in the area, and I would highly recommend trying someone else first. Thompson's really let me down.

Dean provided my complimentary basement inspection which consisted of looking for water entry points, foundation and floor cracks, and all potential other water challenges in the basement. He spent about 20 minutes walking me through each point of the Inspection and explaining to me the purpose what he was looking for and why. At the end of the complimentary inspection, Dean confirmed no further action would be necessary. Dean was professional, knowledgeable and polite; never pushy and very honest. I would highly recommend Thompson's Basement Waterproofing's free inspection to anyone concerned about your basement. Thompson's obviously is only interested in selling their products to people who need them; not taking advantage of Homeowner's who don't have the subject matter expertise needed to properly assess this type of situation. Thanks Thompson's!

We got several quotes from waterproofing companies to correct a small moisture problem in our basement. We decided to go with Thompson's for several reasons: they didn't use scare tactics like other companies; the price was reasonable; and they had good reviews on Angie's List. We had a french drain and sump pump installed in our basement, and the job itself went well. The workers showed up as scheduled and completed the job in one day with minimal mess. We haven't had time to discover whether the equipment works as intended, but we have every reason to believe it will. Our problem with this company arose when we realized we were missing a framing hammer and caulking gun that the workers asked if they could use while they were here on the job. We assumed the workers accidentally packed them up with their own equipment when they left. When we called Thompsons and asked if they had our tools, they said yes. They told us they would leave them on our front doorstep in a couple of days. Well, Thompsons didn't return the tools like they said they would. We called repeatedly over the next month, but we were continually given the run-around. The phone operator took messages and said someone would call, but no one returned our calls. My husband finally spoke with one of the workers who was here on the job. He said he would look for the tools, but he never called back. We still don't have our tools. We are very disappointed with Thompson's at their complete lack of responsiveness about our missing tools. Although we should have been delighted at our experience with this company, we have been left with a very sour taste in our mouths.

Mac and John were awesome. Both knew what they were talking about, were confident but not pushy, and were very genuine. Initially, we looked on Angie?s List, BBB, and asked around and settled on five firms to interview. We tossed out three, one because of a high pressure sales pitch, one due to an awkwardly unprofessional encounter, and the third to a technical disagreement on how the work should be done. Thompson?s had none of these characteristics. Neither Mac nor John. Thomspons was a very close second. Two reasons for signing with others ? 1) found out that one of my best friends utilized them and had a great experience (that?s incredibly lucky and a quite valuable endorsement), and 2) the other guys normally include pressure washing and painting of block walls - Thompson's readily admits that they don't specialize in painting. I appreciate their focus on waterproofing, and I have no doubt, that I could have hired Thompson?s and have had a successful project.

Overall, a pleasant experience. The work was done quickly and professionally. It's been about four months since the work was done and there have been no problems. After moving into our home in May we quickly realized that our basement was leaking water. We did our research and came up with a shortlist of potential companies. After speaking with all the potential companies at great lengths, we decided to go with Thompson's. Woody, their sales rep walked us through the process and worked hard with us on a fair price we could agree on. When the team arrived they were professional, courteous and completed the job in a single day. I would recommend them to anyone who is experiencing water leakage in their basement.

We have had several heavy rains and our basement is still dry! This company was informative and patient, they did not try to pressure me into signing a contract. We got an estimate from Thompsons and Value Dry, but Value Dry left without even giving us an actual estimate! They (Value Dry) wanted to know what our budget was before they'd even give us a ballpark price! Jeff from Thompsons gave us a very reasonable estimate right away and was patient with questions that we had in the following week, while we were deciding whether or not to have the work done. When we did sign the contract, they were willing to work around our schedule and got the job done very quickly. They were very nice and cleaned up very well afterwards. We are so glad that we went with Thompsons and wish we had done it sooner! Its such a relief to not have to worry about coming home to a wet basement every time it rains.

Professional and punctual. They try to sell you the ultimate waterproof package which is fine but not what I needed or could afford. A bit of a sales pitch to get you to commit right away. I told them I needed to get other estimates. The followed up about a week later and sent another rep out who was committed to getting our business. He broke then the original estimate into three phases which was more affordable and met our needs better as we did not get a lot of water in our crawlspace. Crew was efficient and cleaned up well. They did play some loud rock music while they worked which could have been kept lower or eliminated but not a big deal. Done quickly and system works great. Crawl space is dry as a bone. I would use them again and recommend them

The quote was $2500. I didn’t like the techniques that they tried to use to get me to sign right then and there. They told me that if I sign that day they could give me that price, but if I wait, then it's going to be more. After speaking with another company, I just truly believe in what they said more than the other companies because I feel that no company is going to want to turn away money if they can make it. They were professional and prompt. We should be given a valid quote that is valid beyond the initial meeting. I would prefer to have a quote that is good for fifteen days or thirty days than saying that if I don’t sign today, then the price will be different. With regard to price, they were willing to make it better at a later date.

We had a localized water seepage problem in the basement. Representative came out for free and explained the problem we were having and how they would correct it. Estimate seemed reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done. Work was scheduled and completed three days later. I am very happy with the work that was done. There was immediately a difference in odor, and I shouldn't have any major issues rebuilding around the area that was worked on. There was a little bit of damage done to the removed molding, and I wasn't left with completely straight, square edges for re-doing the flooring...but it isn't anything I can't work around. Overall I am satisfied with the job done.

They sealed the foundation of house where a crack had formed. They did a nice job and the seal seems to be holding up nicely, as we have not seen any water since the work was done. My only complaint is the technique they use to get you to sign the contract on the spot. I hate being pressured and they use an old sales technique where they offer a discount for signing the contract saying they have another job in the area to do. They then call the boss in front of you to "get the deal" and make it seem like you need to say yes on the spot to secure your crew for the job to get done quickly. I find that when companies use these high pressure sales tactics it is usually a red flag for a scam. I don't think that is the case here, it is just a tried and true method that works for them They really pressure you to sign immediately. I must admit that I was prepared for it, told them I wouldn't sign right away, and they still got me! Made me very angry, but in hindsight they gave me the best deal, did the job right with a lifetime transferable guarantee, so no harm in the end. I really hate that feeling of being manipulated like you are buying a used car. I interviewed two other firms and they were worse about this and wanted to do much bigger jobs with a much higher price tag! This is definitely an area where the scammers are out in force, and you will be subjected to high pressure sales tactics to get you to sign a contract and give a deposit before the salesman leaves. Be warned!
Description of Work: They did a small excavation of the foundation and then put in sheet of waterproofing material that keeps the water out for a "lifetime" which they guarantee with a transferable document. It seems like the work is done very well and with a minimum of disruption to the house. The workman who performed the work was very nice and professional. It has been nine months since the work was done and so far not a drop of water has appeared in our basement.

The Thompson's Waterproofing salesman came to my house in the evening. He looked at the basement and explained what he wanted to do. I said I wanted to think about it overnight. The salesman pressured me to sign right away. I said that I do not make snap judgements when it comes to spending a large sum of money. I decided to go with them several weeks later. The original salesman was not available so they gave me to Tom. He was a much better salesman. Much easier to deal with. I gave the company a 50% deposit to start the job. The crew showed up bright and early as promised. I have a finished basement. They started the job cutting the bottom of the Sheetrock walls halfway around the basement to get near the foundation. I asked them to be careful when cutting the metal studs so they could be put back into position. The guy that was doing the work was not instructed properly. He started to cut the studs and then because it was easier, he began to smash them with a hammer. I stopped him before he ruined the walls completely. Then they used a jack hammer to breakup the concrete floor. They installed the french drains, put crushed stone in and then covered it with new concrete. Once the walls were opened up it was discovered that there was an above ground steam return pipe running behind the wall. I questioned the foreman on how he was going to work around a steam return pipe with out damaging it. He assured me that they would have no problem working without causing damage. They completed the one day installation in the early evening. Just as the crew was finishing the job, the job foreman started putting pressure on me for the balance of the job. He claimed they had to get going back to Pennsylvania and I had to give him a credit card to call in to the office. I paid for the job over the phone. He assured me if there were any issues they would stand behind them. The next morning I had no heat in the house. I called Pierson Oil company, who had just installed a new oil furnace the month before. They sent a plumber right over. After checking out the boiler it was determined that the furnace had no water in it. Upon inspecting the pipes it was found that the crew from Thompson's water proofing had damaged the furnace return pipe when they jack hammered the floor out and did not properly support the pipe. I was told that the pipe had to be replaced. Because of the way it had originally been installed the plumber said he would have to take it back to a further point in the wall. This required him to cut more of the Sheetrock. He gave me an estimate of $1600 for parts and labor for the pipe and I agreed to repair the Sheetrock. I said I had to call Thompson's to find out how they wanted to handle it. the manager at Thompson's could not have been more apologetic on the phone. He said go right ahead and have the pipe fixed and he would pay for it. All he asked for was an itemized bill. The plumber came back 24 hours later to start the job. He completed it by the early evening. I had heat once again. I paid for the repair. I called Thompson's office. He said to just send him the bill and he would have the boss cut a check right away. More than a week goes by and I call again. He assures me he is just waiting for the owner to sign the check. No check arrives. I call again. He says he has to have pictures of the new pipes. I emailed him pictures right away. I called to make sure he received the pictures. He claims that he did not because their Firewall prevents pictures from coming through. He gives me another email address. I email the pics again. He claims he does not get them. I felt he was using this as an excuse to not deal with the problem. I said I will go print them at CVS and mail them to him. I sent him a dozen 5X7 pictures. I called him several days later. He said yes he did receive the pictures and forwarded them to the owner. I did not hear from him for days. I called him and he tells me that the owner says it is not his problem and I am not going to get any reimbursement. I argued with him on the phone. After multiple phone calls he says the owner has agreed to give me $500 towards the repairs. I reminded him that his crew damaged the pipe and he had assured me that I would be reimbursed $1600 that I paid to repair their screwup. I expected to be made whole. He said he would send me $500 and it was not open for discussion any more. I have been waiting over a year for that $500 check and still have not received a dime. Thompson's Waterproofing lied and stiffed me for the entire $1600. Shame on them. I feel that they should have made good on their promise to pay me for the entire pipe repair. Because of this I would not recommend Thompson's for any work.

I was pleased with work and the care that was taken with my home. I was was concerned with the sales rep who was a typical high pressured sales person. The first price was twice what I expected and it quickly dropped by $5,000.00. After he was told it was still too high he said, "let me call Mr.Thompson". Another $3,000 was taken off. He said he had a crew that had nothing to do right now and could start right away. They did a good job but I would encourage anyone to do your research and single women becareful, even though he came down $8,000.00, I'm sure I was taken advantage of.

Joe from Thompsons Waterproofing came out on 10/13/12 to do an estimate for basement waterproofing. Joe was good about explaining about the wetness in the basement and how to correct it and that I would need a full perimeter waterproofing done. Joe explained about hydrostatic pressure and showed me the liner and piping to be used and that I would need 2 sump crocks. He informed me that he need to remove about 3 feet of panelling but would not replace it. They would need to remove the baseboard radiators but would not replace them. They would not do any drylock or paint till 6 months out. Also, I was given the "I can drop the price if you book now" speech. I told Joe that I needed to have other estimates done first and that didn't seem to make him too happy. I already knew I didn't want to use them because there were just too many things as a homeowner I would have to do myself or get a contractor to do. I was looking for all work to be done at one time.
