I found a large puddle of water in my basement the evening before and called Dan. I thought it was a leaky water heater. He told me to turn off the water-inlet valve and the gas to the water heater and that he would be over in the morning. Later that night I discovered that the leak was not coming from the water heater. The next morning he came over and to start with, Dan re-lit the water heater. Then he diagnosed a faulty pump for our HVAC drain system and replaced it. A couple of days later, he called me to tell me that he tested the faulty pump in his shop and found that it was, in fact, not faulty and that he was refunding the money that we spent for him to replace the pump. Ultimately, Dan charged us only for the labor to clear the drain that the pump led to. He did not charge for the time he spent on the water heater. I was impressed with his professionalism and his honesty. I would hire him again in an instant.
Description of Work: replaced the pump that takes condensation water out of the central air conditioning and sends it to the drain.

Dan did a great job...he was persistant and completely cleared our sewer line, and with his sewer line camera, showed us exactly what line looked like before and after his efforts. He provided insights on how to prevent future clogs and we will be scheduling annual reviews with him to ensure that we don't run into problems again.
Description of Work: Dan cleared our clogged sewage drain of roots and debris, and installed a new vent pipe for the system.

I can't say enough about this service provider. They came out on the spur of the moment.....I called Saturday morning @ 9:30 a.m. and my problem was resolved by 12:30! They explained the process and quoted me a cost up front before starting any work. Extremely professional, very courteous and neat. I highly recommend their services and definitely plan to have them back for other projects in the future.

We had a sewer back-up over a holiday weekend that was complicated by heavy rain and a difficult to find trap. American went above and beyond for us ....arriving when promisedand steering us away from a quicker and more expensive option that wouldn't have resolved our situation. Everything was explained to us and the team was careful and did a good job on clean-up.

The owner promptly returned my phone call the same day and spoke to me for over 30 minutes regarding my problem. He listened without interrupting and spoke to me with respect and a genuine tone of helpfulness. I was VERY pleased with our conversation. We are still in the midst of trying to solve our issue with our septic company, but I would use this contractor in a heart beat for any plumbing work. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. He was also honest about his availability and followed up with me in case I needed to move forward with scheduling some time on his calendar. HIGHLY recommend him based on that alone.

Dan kept us up to date throughout the entire process. This was a big job. The township requires the installation of a masher pump system to hook up to the sewer main. This required him to do a lot of research and phone calls to the proper officials to handle the details of the hookup. He returns phone calls right away. He'll hook you up with the right people to handle other projects as well, such as when we wanted our septic mound removed and our yard flattened out after the plumbing work was done.

We had a clogged sewer line which flooded our basement. Dan was able to come to our house on a Saturday and clean it for us. He gave us the low down on what could be occurring and what treatments would be best. He didn't try to sell us on anything we didn't need but did inform us that it would probably be best to have it cleaned yearly because of the roots in our lines.

American came and did the cleanout and in-line camera inspection for $400 and later sent the $8000 sewer line replacement proposal warning us that the clogging problem could reoccur. The $400 was apparently reasonable since the line clogged again in a week or 2 and we called another plumber to do a cleanout and inspection and they also charged $400. We were concerned about the seemingly high price from American; that is why we called a different plumber for the 2nd cleanout so we could get an independent second opinion since we apparently did have a recurring problem. The difference was the 2nd plumber, Carney Plumbing of Line Lexington, PA, saw that the problem was a crack in the line that was letting dirt and ground water in causing the clogs, not just a dip in the line, and they gave an estimate of ~$3900 for the exact same sewer line replacement! We had Carney do the sewer line replacement work and there is no way American could have done a better job that would be worth more than 2 times the price. American did a reasonable job on the cleanout, but their pricing for the sewer line was excessive.

Response from American Drain Cleaning & Plumbing
We came out to the customer's home and cabled the sewer line after we cleared the line we then proceeded to camera the line. During the camera inspection we documented for the customer a broken line at the foundation wall and a belly in the line 3/4 of the way towards the end. Both problems were pointed out and shown to the customer. Customer explained that the clogging was a recurring problem. Customer stated that there was another plumbing company out some time before and they had never pointed any problems. Our pricing is fair and competitive in the market of today. We do Quality work and will not under any circumstance sacrifice quality for a cheaper price. The true test of a job well done is longevity, and in this case that remains to be seen.

Dan came within the time frame he had given me and fixed the leak which was on the verge of causing my toilet to overflow, and cleaned up when he had finished. I had no idea how bad the leak could have gotten so I am so relieved that I called this company when I did. I would definitely call Dan again for any plumbing problem

Every time we have been very satisfied. Dan was quick to respond to our urgent need for repair and flexible to fit our schedule with the not as urgent calls. This last time he fixed a water pipe outside the house that had cracked during the winter. He showed up on time, explained the problem, did the work quickly and charged about what we expected. He was even kind enough to lend an extra pair of hands moving an extremely large and extremely heavy piece of furniture that we were moving into the basement while he was around.

We came out to customer's home, her problem was a blocked drain line from the toilet. I attempted to clear it using a drain machine after removing the toilet. I was unsuccessful due to a hard blockage in the line which the machine could not penatrate. Then I placed a camera in the line and saw a piece of broken china. I explained to the customer that a section of the line would have to be cut out and replaced. I gave her the price and she agreed and signed forms before any work was initiated. We proceeded to cut the line out and removed broken piece of china from the drain line. The repair took about 6 to 7 hours to complete. After the repair the problem was totally resolved. The customer signed the completion form saying that she was 100% satified with the work completed.

Overall; while the work was completed quickly and professionally, in less than 2 hours total; I feel that the $600 plus charge was excessive for the work done and the amount of time required to do so. This was the cost even after the reduction of the $75.00 charge imposed for the estimate. I was advised prior to engaging them; that there was a $75 charge; which would not be charged, if they were hired to do the job.. They also replaced my brass handles with plastic handles. They correctly adviseed that the mfgr of the toilet no longer made brass handles. I subsequently was able to purchase replacement brass handles at Lowes for $10.00. On a more minor note, they left smudged footprints on the bathroom floor, when they left. Not a big deal, but ;but did not reflect well on them. Overall, I learned never to pay for someone to come out and provide an estimate; since; if the quote is high and you don't engage them, you're stuck with a charge for which no work was done. However, while they know their businees , I feel that their rates are much too high, for the work performed. I would not use them again.

I arrived at the customer's home reviewed the work that needed to be completed. I quoted a price of $600 to rebuild 3 toilets, parts included. Customer agreed to price and signed for work before job was started. during the job I had to make a trip to the supply house to special order handles, which were goldtone, at the customer's request. When toilet handles came in I informed the customer that the handles were goldtone plastic which is all they are available in from the manufacturer. Customer said to put them on, so I did. Customer was satisfied. Several weeks went by and customer called and said his wife did not like the handles. I told customer I would gladly come out again and put any handle he wanted on free of charge.

Had to reschedule the first estimate appointment as Dan was held up at another job. Was 45+ minutes late for the rescheduled appointment; showed up with his girlfriend. Spent time reviewing the project and was friendly. Called me about a week later with a hugly inflated verbal phone estimate of $16,000. Unprofessional, disrespectful.

Customer contacted me with a request for an estimate. Customer said the only time she was available was during evening hours. I informed the customer that regular business hours are between 8 and 4:30pm. But to accomidate the customer I went out during off hours. Unfortunately evening traffic was particularly heavy that night and while waiting in traffic I began to have vehicle problems, which I informed the customer of. I arrived and looked over the job that needed to be completed. Customer wanted a price on rerunning her sewerline from the back of the house to the curb line at the front of the house before street, including a new water service. Customer's sewer line was less then a foot away from her neighbor's sewer line, posing a risk of damage to neighbor's property and sewer line. Job would be extensive. Price given included dump truck, back hoe, crushed stone and repiping under a very large porch area. Customer was never charged for after hours trip or consultation.

Doesn't it always happen on a holiday weekend or big event. Our toilet got stuffed up and it looked about ready to overflow. I would have waited til Monday, but who knows - Murphy's Law might have kicked in. If it's going to happen, it will happen with a houseful of people. I wasn't going to take any chances. Since my husband felt he knew what was wrong, we needed a plumber that would deal with the sewer line. I let my fingers do the walking in Angie's list and called Dan of American Drain Cleaning and Plumbing.

On Thanksgiving weekend we had guests over and perhaps that is what caused the plumbing problem. Everything was going fine until we found the water on the lowest bathroom floor. OH BOY! My husband does all our household repairs and he plunged like the dickens, but it didn?t help. He finally stopped when my screams were scaring the neighbors. We called two other plumbers and after describing what was wrong they informed us that it sounded like it was a problem with our sewer line and that they didn?t do this kind of work. We needed to find a plumber who could specifically handle this. I found American Drain and Plumbing through Angie?s list. They got great reviews all across the board. In service and cost. Because of the holiday weekend I knew I was going to pay a premium for the visit/fix. I called American and Dan answered the phone. He told me it would be $150 for the service call and estimate---regardless if he did the work or not. Well I needed it fixed. He was on time, polite and professional. He listened to what was wrong and said he would have to remove the toilet and snake the line. The cost????..on top of the service call charge?????was $450.00. He said that was the rate to do this procedure. Well, it had to be done. He brought a drop cloth in, used his shop vac to suck up all the water in the toilet. Removed the toilet and brought in a big motorized snake. He put it down the drain and let it go. The snake went down a good ways and swoosh, all the water went down. While he was doing the work back and forth, he had a conversation running with my husband. He mentioned that during a normal visit he charges $80.00 for the visit, and if the work he recommends is accepted he puts that $80.00 towards the total cost. Well I could understand that. My circumstance is it was a holiday weekend. (in the my mind I was thinking ????well maybe he should take the normal $80.00 service call off and only charge me the extra $70 for the holiday weekend) . When Dan was done with the snake, he replaced the toilet, tested it, cleaned up and gave me the bill. I paid the bill and thanked him. On his way out he handed us a magnet with his business info on it, and right there was an advertisement saying $30 off your first service. We pointed this out to Dan and it somehow got lost in a joke. We let it go as we had guests in the house and were glad to have the problem fixed. From Start to finish Dan had been here about an hour and a half. I have to tell you, this bill hit us hard. And I kept thinking about it. And thinking about it. I finally brought the subject up with my husband and he said he had also been thinking about it wondering about the cost of the work. I didn?t know if the cost was fair- high or low. So since I knew what work was actually done, I called two other plumbing companies for a quote. I explained what work was needed - and I got two separate quotes. I was comparing apples to apples. The prices quoted over the phone were considerably less than what I paid. Since I had used Angie?s list to find American Drain I felt I should write a review. I gave Dan good marks in professionalism, being on time and completing the work in a timely manner. The only area of exception was in the cost. I kept on going back and forth, back and forth about putting this review on Angie?s list. Then I thought I would give Dan the benefit of a doubt, and sent him my review . He responded immediately and offered to refund $30 for the first time visit. He said he charged us his normal fee for doing this kind of sewer work. We received the $30 and I didn?t post my review on Angie?s list. I felt Dan?s peace offering was a good gesture. But come January 30th the drain clogged up again and this time I had a floor and basement flooded with water. So I called Dan up and told him that he had just been here in November and what would it cost to fix this same problem. And he quoted me that this service would cost $450.00. I thanked him, hung up the phone and called another plumber- who brought his drop cloth in, used his shop vac to suck up all the water in the toilet, pulled the toilet and brought in his motorized snake and proceeded to put it down the drain. He snaked the drain twice and pulled out a rag?(probably left in the drain by our contractor during a bathroom renovation the year before). This plumber then cleaned up, wrote up a bill and I paid him the $270 total. He was here for just over 2 hours. I can understand that snagging that rag was probably just good luck. But the cost difference was just too much. The fact that American Drain would not come out a second time at a discounted price was just too much. Again-----------------Dan gets good marks in everything,,,,,,,,,,,,but price.

Customer called and I explained the emergency charge. Customer agreed to the price in writing before any work was initiated. the nature of the problem was a branch blockage which I cleared and everything was working perfectly before I left. At the time I left I presented the customer with a coupon which I said I would honor on any future work, since the customer did not have any coupons at that time. The customer was completely satisfied since the problem was fully resolved. Several months past and the customer called back and said she had water in her basement . I explained to her that the problem was a main drain line blockage and not a branch blockage like before. The customer wanted a substantial discount off the work. Basically the customer wanted to set the price on the work that needed to be completed. American Drain Cleaning and Plumbing strives to perform quality work with integrity.

While visiting my sister's house in Royersford, PA we discovered my son had been dropping rocks down the vent pipe in the front yard which caused the sewer drain to back up into the basement. My brother-in-law who is a contractor, rented a professional snake on several different days trying to clear the drain to no avail. We called American Drain Cleaning as a last resort thinking that we may have to dig up the front yard to get at the massive blockage. We chose American since they said they could provide full sewer line replacement if necessary, but the lead plumber, Dan, said he would first try to remove the rocks from the vent pipe since he has seen this problem before. We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best! Dan first removed about 15 pounds of rocks using a high powered industrial shopvac with extra long hose. He then carefully removed the remaining larger rocks and pieces of brick with some 10 ft. long tongs. Amazing! After all was said and done the sewer drain was clear and we didn't need to dig up the yard! THANK YOU DAN!
Description of Work: American Drain Cleaning cleared rocks and pieces of brick from our sewer line and vent pipe in the front yard. An excavation estimate was provided in case digging and sewer pipe replacement was necessary, but luckily not needed!

I called this company based on the positive reviews it received here on Angie's List. Here is my story. I noticed that water was rising in the shower stall located in our basement on the evening of December 29, 2012. I called American the following Sunday morning. The owner answered the call right away, and said that he could come the next morning. He arrived on time, and correctly diagnosed that something was clogging our sewer line. He snaked the line, and removed quite a few roots. He also put a camera down the line to see if there was any further damage. The service was great, and I was very glad that he was able to arrive on such short notice, especially since it was a holiday. I would recommend this company to others.

First sign of the issue was wet carpet on the bottom floor of our house. Called American Drain Cleaning and Plumbing mostly based on the majority of good reviews on Angie's List and was not able to get a solid recommendation from someone we personally knew. Dan came out the next day and examined this damage and diagnosed the issue as being a leaky waste water pipe deep in a closet behind the water heater. He was very straight forward with me about the possible complexities of accessing the pipe and some of the potential issues that could be uncovered once he was able to access the pipe. One example was the potential that it may be necessary to dig around the pipe to get the needed space to place the new pipe once cutting off the old pipe. He rearranged his schedule to come to my house on the next business day due to the urgency of my problem. We even talked over the weekend about some of the details. He was on-time in the morning and began working quickly. He gave me updates during the process and they were able to cut a hole in the wall to access the pipe, cut the faulty pipe off with enough room for the new hardware and repair the drywall by mid-day. Dan wrote up the bill and was accommodating with itemizing the work done for proper insurance claim submittal. Bottom line is the leak was professionally fixed in a short period of time. I would use American Drain Cleaning and Plumbing again for my plumbing needs.
