Universal Roofing did what they said they were going to do as per the estimate. During the estimate process they suggested exactly what was needed to properly repair the roof and did not try to unnecessarily upsell. They came to do the work exactly when they said and did exactly what was agreed up and needed. They were professional and courteous. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

My home owners insurance wanted some shingles that were popping up around the chimney removed and replaced. The gentleman from universal roofing explained that the insurance inspector was making something out of nothing, but that he could and would take care of it. He said to remove/replace the tiles and sealing around the chimney would be unwise since the roof is probably getting replaced within 5-10 years and when the roof gets replaced it would have to be done all over again. (He could have taken me for a ride here but he did not, he was honest and straight forward.) the service i received from this company was top notch. Its clear to me they are on top of Angie's List due to a laser focus on customer service. The estimate for replacing the whole roof (in a few years) was a little higher than another guy, but with universal i know im paying a little more for a very high quality job with a forever warranty! A few days later I got a call from the company to ask how they did -- its this followup that makes the difference between a good company and a great one!

Workers were prompt and courteous. Went right to work, and finished in a great time. Cleaned all their residue and left no trace of work. Recent rains would indicate to me, that the Job has been performed perfectly. They were the best price quote given.

The job: -The initial consultation was very professional Joe was punctual and knowledgeable regarding the roof and solutions to fix the roof. The initial meeting was about 45 minutes to discuss the work needed, inspect the roof, and scope out the job including pricing and material preferences. I also gave a timeline of when I wanted the job completed. - I contacted Universal a week later to get the definitive timeline for the job as well as to followup to see when work was to begin. I believe they may have had a cancelation as the contracts that came the day of the job informed me that they had just been called to come to my house. I was not upset by this as it did not require any input on my end, but I was fortunate to be home at they arrived. Overall: My overall experience with Universal was positive. They completed the work as required with minimal followup or discussion required. The workers were friendly and professional. The reason i chose Universal is their transparent and consultative way of dealing with customers. The only reason I was able to write so much in the description of the work was because it was written for me. I was able to ask questions and follow each phase of the project using the "Scope of Work" section of the contract as a guide. After the job on my own home, I used Universal on a rental home that I own in the area. As expected I received the same service and the job was completed without issue. Universal is a great roofing company with a dedicated staff.

From the initial contact through completion of the work, Universal Roofing has been a pleasure to work with. Communication throughout the job was excellent and phone calls were returned promptly. All employees who worked on the job were courteous & professional. The work areas and surrounding vicinity was kept clean and clear of debris at all times. Universal performed a significant amount of work in a short period of time and at a very fair price. Highly recommend this contractor.

Another great job performed by Universal Roofing! Starting from the first phone call on. Girls in the office are pleasant and knowledgable regarding services that I need done. The scheduled an appointment for an estimator to come out and look at the job. Joe the estimator was also very nice and professional. He arrived on time and reviewed the job situation. Joe explained step by step what needed to be done and what I should expect. I was given a competitive price for the job and because I am an Angie's List member I received an additional $75.00 off. The job is now completed and on time as promised. Looks great!!! Once again a great job done by Universal.I would definitely recommend them and will continue my business with them. Thank You!

Universal roofing were very professional, prompt and polite. Arrived at my home on time when they said they would be here. Did a fantastic job, cleaned up great and no mess left behind.. No more leak in our roof just in time for the fall and winter weather ahead. I will use them again in the future.

Recently I had an issue with my roof and contacted several companies for estimates. Universal Roofing deserves a GOLD STAR! I was contacted the very same day by Helen, the office manager. She was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to which is a first for the many companies I have dealt with in the past. The company?s turnaround time was remarkable! They came out the next day to inspect my roof. The gentleman?s name was Joe. He was punctual, introduced himself providing a firm hand shake and looked me straight in the eye while explaining the damage/cost?. another first! I received a great price for a brand new roof along with a 10yr warranty! The work was completed in a timely manner and Helen followed up the next week to ensure I was happy with the service. Thanks Universal Roofing for making my life easier! I even went as far as emailing all my friends your contact info if they are ever in need of a roofer.

The Job was finished earlier than expected there were a few unexpected thing that came up that were just taken care of. Very happy with the outcome and would highly recommend Universal to anyone who needs a flat roof worked on.

Original white roof went up in July since the previous roof was damaged due to ice-damning from the winter vortex. The new white roof is expected to be good for the next 10 years with maintenance every 3 years to re-do the black tar sealant. After the roof first went up Universal had troubles communicating with me (the home owner living in Los Angeles) was difficult, but once we got back in touch I was able to understand exactly the state of my roof before the new roof went up, what was exactly installed and done with the new roof along with pictures of the new roof. I was working closely with Joe from Universal who is an upstanding guy who stands by his product and was able to come out and clearly communicate with me and explain that my roof was installed properly and actually installed in a way above and beyond what most roof installers do with extra coating around pipes, chimney and sidings. I am satisfied with the job that is done and there has not been any additional roofing leaks or interior damage to the house once the new roof was installed and I'm happy that Universal roofing came out to do the job and make additional trips out to calm my nerves that the roof was 100% sealed. After many very unsatisfactory jobs performed by local roofers I still had a persistent leak in the 2nd and 3rd floor roofs on my small townhouse in Manayunk. Before contacting Universal, I paid a very high fee for a home inspector to diagnose the leakage problem and, based on the inspector's written report, was prepared to get a new roof plus tear out and redo my existing pole gutters, a very expensive and complex job. However, I decided to try Universal Roofing for a 2nd opinion. Unlike earlier roofers I had used, Universal was extremely responsive and sent out their representative, Joe, immediately to survey my roof situation. Joe inspected my roof, chimney and gutters and explained that it was not necessary to perform all the work recommended by the home inspection company. Joe assured me that my leaking was caused by damage on the edges of my top floor roof, leakage around the flashing and chimney, and leaks thru the site of a former satellite dish. I saved a great deal of money going with Joe's recommendations: a new top main roof with a Firestone modified rubber roof system, repair of seals around the chimney, repair of the satellite mounting damage, and installation of new copper drain leaders and aluminum drip-capping. Joe explained the job thoroughly and professionally and showed me cell phone pictures of the damage that he took while he was inspecting the roofs so that I could better understand the diagnosis. The job was completed in about 4 hours and the men cleaned up the debris very well. We had a severe rain all last night but I did not note any water leakage into former problem areas so I am optimistic that the work fixed the damage. Joe said that Universal will contact me automatically when it is time for a recoat, which is necessary every 3 years under the terms of their 12-year warranty. I appreciate this proactive step, as most roofers do not even call you back, let alone call you to remind you when recoating is due. I would highly recommend this company! PS - the women who answer the phone at Universal and relay messages to Joe and the crew are extremely responsive and on top of customers' needs too!

Everything went great. Joe and his entire team were undoubtedly a pleasure to do business with. For starters, on day 1 ( Sat. July 20th) when Joe was scheduled to provide me with an estimate--he arrived almost 20 minutes early. He was very knowledgeable and informative of precisely what they would be doing and the best way to tackle the issues. After spending over one hour with me, he offered to return the next day Sun. July 21st) to speak with my husband about any questions/concerns he might have due to the fact that he could not make himself available for our initial meeting. After meeting with my husband for almost 2 hours--we felt confident that it was Joe and Universal Roofing that we wanted to perform this job. Since then--we have not had a single regret nor complaint. Our roof looks great, there are no leaks and we have a warranty in place in the event something arises down the road--we feel confident that Joe and his team are committed to taking care of it. Then, after, our first really big rain storm, Joe called to make sure that everything was okay--how refreshing. What can I say, we were amazed, but, highly impressed. Thank you Universal Roofing. Provider came out very soon after the initial call, surveyed the potential work and provided an estimate on the spot. The representative was extremely profession and knowledgeable. Specifically, his experience with doing flat roofs in Philadelphia turned out to be very valuable when all was said and done. On the day of the job, the workers arrived promptly, executed the job within the time stated even though some additional work was found to be necessary after removing the old roof. Every bit of work that was stated in the original estimate was done and the leaks which were a result of previous improper roof work were fixed. After the work was complete, the workers offered to take me up to the roof to inspect the work. I did so and was satisfied that all objectives stated in the estimate were completed as promised. They also fixed some portions of the roof that they found were damaged after removing the old shingles. I was not billed for the additional labor. Just the materials(which wasn't very much). Overall, I was extremely happy with this provider and would absolutely recommend them to friends and family.

That's the one I'm considering to have the work done, he was very thorough in explanations, he was timely, took his time, they were on time.

They started the job just a week after the estimate and gave very realistic and competitive estimates for both cost and time ( it took about a day and a half, but considering I have a larger than normal roof, and it was two hot days, I was impressed they were able to finish it so fast)! The roof looks fantastic! They also kept me well informed through the whole process including taking pictures of the few rotted pieces of plywood that they had to replace.

These guys came and did a great job replacing my flat roof after a storm they replaced the rain gutter system that was put in by someone who should never have called themselves contractors. Great guys great work new roof flashed properly recapped the edges and replaced the rain gutters. Much better then it ever was

Although Mr. Fisher seemed knoweldgeable as a roofing contractor, a handwritten quote is insufficient for my standards. I prefer all details spelled out in a written, printed out estimate. Price was slightly higher than other estimates. His driver/cousin was a distraction with personal questions/problems while Mr. Fisher addressed calls on his cell. Universal Roofing may provide satisfactory work but these three stated concerns were the deciding factors on choosing someone else.

Our roof sprung a leak after an ice buildup during this nasty winter. Universal assessed the roof and determined that it needed to be replaced. The Universal rep explained in detail what the roofers would do. He also discussed with us the type of materials that Universal would use. The roof looks great, we have no leaks and we are confident in the quality of materials and workmanship.

Mr. Fisher from Universal was a great help to me in explaining the different types of roofing and the fact that there are advantages and disadvantages of each type. He was straightforward and seemed honest. Also, he did not apply any pressure, and when I told him I had decided to use another roofer because the price was lower, he was very gracious about it. I would certainly call him again, and I hope I made the right decision, based on pricing!

During a heavy rain we began to see a leak come through our bathroom vent fan. We contacted Universal Roofing because of their reviews on Angie?s Lists. We read online that the issue could either be condensation on the vents or leaking through the pipes on the roof. Joe came by and took a look and pointed out that the issue was mainly that the roof needed maintenance and the flashing around the pipes coming out the top needed re-flashing. I took about a month to write this review because I wanted to wait for a rain to make sure everything was ok. Thus far the leak seems to be taken care of. Some pros and cons are below. Pros. 1. Joe showed up on time and was very professional. 2. Even though they did not install a new roof, I was still given a one year guarantee that the leak will not recur in the same spot. 3. I did not have to be home for them to do any of the work and even for payment, I was able to just leave the check taped to the mailbox while I was at work. 4. Needed to have Universal come back out and joe made sure everything got taken care of to what we were expecting. Cons 1. The only real con is that whatever material they used to coat the roof seemed to splatter on our skylights. To be fair, we never told Universal about the issue since we saw it long after the work was done and had already called to confirm everything was too our liking.

Don't bother talking to this company if you have only minor repairs you want done. They are just into the big bucks. I called hoping to have someone come out and give an estimate for some minor repairs on my roof. I have a visible shingle missing and heard dripping during the last heavy rainstorm we had. I'm imagining something needs to be sealed up there and wanted to get ahead of any potential larger issues. I was basically told to not even bother because they will charge a $500 nominal fee regardless if it's 1 or 50 shingles that need to be repaired. I was bluntly told to call someone else.

I got a rapid quote for the work, which I was very happy about given the extent of the leak I had and how busy they were given the bad weather (the leak occurred during one of the large snow storms). Because of the extent of the leak caused by a cracked drainbox, they prioritized my work since there was almost 6 inches of ice on my flat roof due to the drainbox/downspout not working and the foot of snow that fell. Water melting from the snow and ice was actively draining into my attic space and wall! The work was finished in a day and we've had absolutely no problems with any more leaking since then even though there were several more significant snow, ice and rain storms afterwards. The only reason I gave 'B' rating for responsiveness was due to slight delay in returning texts and phone messages after the repairs were made regarding some documentation that I needed. But, it was related to a family health issue of the employee that I was primarily dealing with so was entirely excusable to me. Once I got in touch with a different employee they fulfilled my request in a timely manner.

I moved into this house in 2012 and called them because of an issue raised in the inspection report. My sister in NJ had recommend them to me. They told me they could patch the roof or put on a new roof and gave me prices for each. I had the new roof put on and everything is good. I did have an issue later with rain spout freezing and they came out right away and took care of it - and didn't charge me. They said they'll contact me every 3 years for a re-coating. I am relieved that I don't have to worry about the roof. I normally don't refer people because you never know what I can happen. I was so happy with Universal though that I gave my neighbor their number when she asked if I knew a good roofer.

On January 22, 2014 we discovered a leak in a bedroom. Little did we know it was from a large amount of ice on the roof. We called a couple of places that night. The next day Universal called back and came out to check the roof. They proceeded to remove eight inches of ice off of the roof where the leak had been. They took pictures and showed them us, the whole block was the same way. They also told us the ice had blocked up the downspout and split it. We knew a new roof was needed. There was no hesitation on getting the roof. Due to the weather in the area (and the amount of work they had lined up), the roof was done on January 31, 2014. They also replaced the entire downspout. We are completely satisfied with the work they have done (and glad it was done before yet another storm hit). If asked, I will highly recommend this roofing company.
