Selling two junk cars was a bit complicated, but I'm very satisfied with how it turned out. Calling one number seems to lead to other companies; I think salvage companies and tow truck drivers work together in some kind of arrangement that may not be totally transparent to the consumer. I called several numbers of "junk car cash" from the Internet and got quotes ranging from $300 to $700 that they would pay me to haul away my two cars when I was ready. The $700 from Neal sounded so good that I was suspicious; indeed, when John called me back later he said it would be lower, but then he checked and said $700 was still okay. Tow truck driver Nick was at the house within an hour of my calling to say I was ready. The original idea was to put one car on the flatbed and tow the other behind. However, some tires turned out to be airless, so towing was not an option. Nick loaded the first car onto the flatbed; we did the paperwork; he gave me my cash and took the first car away. He was back shortly and we did the same for the second car. He never even suggested adjusting the price due to the unexpected second trip. Nick was pleasant and professional, even as he worked in the pouring down rain. He said he likes his job and we had a nice chat about the auto salvage/recycling business.
