That worked out very well. As far as I know, they did a pretty good job; they responded quickly, they basically did what they said they are going to do. They seem very polite on the phone and what not. When I met the people for the estimate they seem very polite. They are pretty much in the ball part with most of the other estimates that I received. They are good, so far I didn't have any leaks even for a short time.

It turned out well. He said that I need a new roof. They patched it up, that was the deal. He did that work and then told me I need a new roof. I was surprised that he didn't come and look at the damage inside the house on the ceiling. I have a leak in the bedroom. I asked him twice if he wanted to come in and see it, but he didn't. That was odd. I thought it was a fair price.

They went ahead and re-did the roof completely, but he ceiling continued to leak. When we contacted them, they said it was probably the drain pipe backing up, that we needed to put heating coil on it, but that they didn't do it - the plumber would do it. The plumber had no idea what they were talking about, so no one is doing anything. We called Phillips, but they are dragging their feet, and our ceiling is collapsing slowly but surely. We would have another roofer come in, but this would invalidate the 15-year warranty. I understand wanting the snow to disperse, but in the meantime, our ceiling is collapsing. We're really stuck at this point.
Description of Work: We recently had Phillips Home Improvement do our roof to fix a water-leak in our ceiling, and they gave us a 15-year warranty on it.

Dear Member, Thank you for taking the time to review our company, we appreciate your time and business. As per your review, we completed your new roof on August 10th, 2013. We were contacted in December 2013, due to the eaves box and spout being frozen. We responded via phone immediately and scheduled an inspection the following day, even though the weather was not safe for our guys to be on the roof. After inspecting the roof, there were 4"of ice build up around the rear roof line, drain and spouts. At that time, it was impossible to make any kind of repairs due to the unsafe conditions for our employees. Since December, we have been experiencing snow every other day. We are standing by our work, hence the 15 year warranty. As soon as the conditions are safe for us to return, we will make necessary repairs within the warranty scope. Thanks again for your time and patience.

It all went really well. John came out quickly to give me an estimate, and was able to schedule me quickly, too, for the week after I called to say I wanted to move forward with him. The roof was up in about 4 hours (I have a pretty small roof), and there were no traces of debris left on the sidewalk. Overall, they did a great job and I'm pleased. We haven't had a major rain yet, and so I won't know if my leaks are gone until then - will come back and add to my review at that time.

I called because I had an emergency problem with my roof. He looked at my roof and said it would be $600.00 to fix it. I said ok. They didn't even work for 40 minutes. He told me they could take a portion of the money and use that toward fixing my entire roof. I believe that I was gouged. I had to call them back the next day because it wasn't actually fixed. They came back and worked for 15 more minutes. So, it was an hour worth of work for $600.00. Because of the emergency I was forced to say yes to the price. I appreciate him coming out, but I don't appreciate him taking advantage of the situation.

Dear Member, We appreciate you taking the time to comment on our services. The appointment we set with you was actually an emergency. We arrived at your property around 330pm, we were not able to provide you with our services due to numerous other appointments. We provided you with a price for the work, before we started the work. Im sure you were able to gather other estimates from out competitors. We returned the next day, first thing in the morning to make repairs. The conditions on the roof were ice and snow. Most people would dare to walk on the streets at times like this, but we actually go on the roofs, risk our lives to try to help people out. Yes, you may have had a leak the following day, but we returned to make necessary repairs. We always will, because we care about our clients and want to make sure your getting your moneys worth. Thanks again, we appreciate you taking the time to comment on our services

A previous roofing contractor had done a very poor job putting a new flat pitched rubber roof on our row home. We called John out due to a leak that we couldn't track down. John clearly explained all the problems he encountered on the initial inspection of our roof. He took pictures and showed us what all was wrong with the previous job. He patched the problems, but the leak persisted after next hard rain that came. I called John again and he was out again very quickly. They found gaps in the existing barge-board around the room perimeter and installed metal flashing around that. We thought that would fix the leak, but after the next rain, it was back again. John came out one more time and found a couple of more holes in the roof that he had missed before. He patched those and didn't charge us extra for the work. It has rained quite a bit since then and the leak has not returned. I think that finally fixed it. Throughout the whole process, John is very easy to get a hold of and is always on the job very quickly. If you call and leave a message, someone always calls back very quickly. Even though it took him a few tries to solve the problem, I always had the feeling he was dedicated to actually fixing it and not just trying to milk me for more money. I would hire him again.
Description of Work: Inspected, identified, and repaired problems with past roofing job done by other contractor. Installed metal flashing to cover existing barge-board around roof perimeter that was in disrepair. Fixed chronic roof leak that was ruining interior drywall.

Dear member Thank you so much. For taking the time to write a review for our Company We appricate your time and business!! Phillips Home Improvement
We initially contact Phillips in April or May and ultimately the project was completed in November. So it took a little longer than we had hoped, but we got everything we wanted out of it and we were fairly particular so we are very happy. The craftsmanship is solid and the look of it is beautiful. The outlets work and the gas works (no issues, although the gas piping used was not the current standard yellow gas service and we did additional grounding because PVC decking it turns out instigates a lot of static charge). Some things that went really well: John redid our entire roof in a day. We didn't have to know ANYTHING about roofs. He went up, took measurements (never even asked to use our restroom) and we have had no leaks. Later during the construction of the deck we noticed pooling in certain parts of the roof, and John added materials to the roof to reslope it to ensure it drained. John doesn't personally build the decks, but his team does. They know how to build decks. The secured the bottom deck to the frame of the house and staggered support bracing. He advised us on board lengths, and assembled the Timbertech materials properly. It looks great and walking on it, it feels solid. The door installation went well, and we have had no leaks around the frame (we've had a lot of rain). The material clean up went well--they took all the construction debris with them. They used a ladder to access the roof everyday and we didn't get complaints from neighbors about noise or trash. They never used our restrooms or anything (very self contained). Masonry is not easy to work with and Nelson (John guy who did the electrical, gas, decking, and door work) did a great job (reinforced the entry way, took out whole brick rows, sealed the frame with concrete). Some things that were ok: Drywalling is not really Phillip's business. After installing the door, the drywall patch job was not great. He warned us that his team doesn't do a great job at that, but hey, I don't want to have to hire a separate contractor to finish the job. The concrete work and door work produced a lot of concrete dust, brick dust, and general mess, and the work was completed without drop clothes, so some of the boards were pretty messed up. John had the deck pressure washed, and replaced two of the boards (very professional of him). Completing the project: We did a final walk through with John, and we asked him to come back and fix certain things and he did. He is a very easy going guy and very accommodating. We were more involved than we had wanted to be, and (I think an element of roof projects--weather determines the project schedule quite a bit) the schedule was longer than we wanted. There were certain materials that John purchased and we either called Home Depot with our credit card or reimbursed him, and other materials that we purchased directly, and it wasn't clear all the time which it was going to be--this caused some confusion and delays. If I were to do it all over again, and I would have worked out at the beginning what materials would be needed and who was going to buy them. Several people have seen our deck and been asking for who did the work, and I will gladly give them John's number. The end result is absolutely fantastic (look at the pictures). John is very honest, and that is one thing you don't have to worry about at all. He gets pretty booked up legitimately so you have to be flexible--my husband worked from home during the whole project. And sometimes details of what you want get lost in the mix, so you have to check up on things. But I would totally do it again!
Description of Work: John replaced our roof (flat roof, three levels--first second and third floor), built a two level deck with pressure treated wood framing and railings, and Timbertech PVC wrapped composite boards, ran electrical outlets (2 per level), and hardwired lights (1 per level) from our breaker and natural gas line from our main line in the basement to the top deck, and cut a window out of masonry back wall to install a glass door. He obtained permits from the City of Philadelphia and inspection (the deck was approved) from the city after the completion of the deck. We provided the drawings of the deck for the permits (worked with John on the design) using Microsoft Viseo (the city requires dimensions and materials but not an architectural stamp for projects <30,000). We stained the railings after the project was complete.

Dear Member, Thank you for your review. We would like to add our statement. Our team inspected your roof and found that there were numerous deteriorated areas. We recommended a new roof because the repairs would only last 2 years at the most. We would not recommend a home owner to spend thousands of dollars for repair work and have to spend thousands of dollars less than 2 years later for a new roof or more repairs. An inspection is based on the overall condition of the roof, not just an active leak. If we repaired a leak at a drain and you leaked a few weeks later from a chimney or pipe, im sure the client would be upset. Bottom line is, this particular roof needed to be replaced; that’s our professional opinion. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I had originally purchased a Big Deal for a roofing inspection, because I had noticed some leak damage on a interior wall. They discovered the problem was in the flashing and completed all the work that day. While I had to pay above the Big Deal price, they discounted services based on the Big Deal. It was also recommended that I replace my roof. After several rain storms and not noticing any new damage from old leak... I had them come back and do anew rubber roof. Both times, they came exactly when they said they would and did everything in a timely professional manner.

I made the contract to have my roof inspected because pieces of the shingles on the front area of my roof were falling off. John Garrison arrived on time for our appointment with two gentlemen. The three men went up on my roof and took photos of the patched areas of the flat roof, and the areas of the chimney where the pointing was missing. I decided that having a new rubber roof installed now would avoid problems with leaking in the near future. I also wanted to have the shingles on the front area replaced. Mr. Garrison said that it would be cheaper ~ fewer man-hours of work ~ to put the new shingles over the old ones, and that doing it that way would not be detrimental. He also agreed to apply cement to some areas around my windows where pointing had been knocked-out, as well as around the chimney. I received a call from Marie to schedule the installation promptly, and it was scheduled within the week. Mr. Garrison and two workers arrived promptly on the scheduled day and began the work. Mr. Garrison went to another site while the two gentlemen worked for approximately 5 hours, covering the old roof and attaching the shingles. Marie called me on the phone to inform me when the gentlemen left my home, since I had left the premises. Marie also sent me digital photos of the work completed on the roof. Mr. Garrison returned to my home late in the afternoon to examine the work and check about my satisfaction. Marie phoned me to inquire as to whether I was satisfied with the work that had been done. Marie e-mailed me the warranty, 15 years for the flat rubber roof and 30 years for the shingles that had been installed. She called again after the first heavy rainfall to be certain that there had not been any problems with the roof, and reminded me to call if I had any problems in the future. I was completely satisfied with the work that was done by Phillips Home Improvements. I would call them again if I had the need. It was helpful to have someone who was willing to do more than one job.
Description of Work: I contracted through Angie's List to have my 15 year old roof inspected and repaired. Shingles on the front area of my roof were deteriorating. John Garrison responded the next work day and set up an appointment to inspect my roof. After inspection and review of the photos of my patched roof, I contracted to have a new roof installed.
