I was absolutely impressed with how professional yet compassionate this company was in fulfilling my roofing needs. From the moment I called for a consultation, the entire process was very easy. I am a single woman, therefore, when it comes to home repairs, I'm a bit out of my comfort zone. They were punctual as well as very educated on what roofing type would best suit my needs. Price was very competitive, as I had another company come prior to Phillip and give me an estimate. Obviously I ended up choosing Phillips, and I am very satisfied with my choice. They treated this project as if it were their own home! I absolutely will be calling them for all my home improvement needs.

I began experiencing a few issues with my roof so I called around and got a few estimates. I chose Phillips for a few reasons. First, their response time was quite impressive. Secondly, they were very professional from start to finish. The quote I received was competitive with the other companies that came out. I hired Phillips to install a new rubber roof at my home about a year ago. Not one problem since the work has been completed! Overall, I couldn't be happier with my experience & highly recommend Phillips Home Improvement!

I have a fiberglass roof and I contacted 3 roofers to get an estimate. Two of them gave me an estimate to redo my roof with black top roofing. WHICH WAS INSANE TO DO, but I didnt know any better. The 3rd roofer, Phillips, came and told me that I could not put a black top roof on top of my fiberglass. He was losing a job but being honest was more important. Phillips saved me thousands by being completely straight about my problem and not just trying to take my money.

The project threw a few curves at us but he handled them timely and professionally. He was on time, on task, on schedule, on budget, what more could you want? He clearly lives and breathes this stuff and takes a personal responsibility for his work. I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: John and his team did external framing and roofed a 1000sf, 2nd floor addition to my home in Fishtown. I shopped this project around but most guys didn't return my calls/emails, the ones that did were largely uncomfortable with the unique nature of the project. It was not a cookie cutter new build or simple roof replacement. From day one John was enthusiastic and confident he could deliver.

Provider was very very helpful as the project was deemed unsafe and required very special demolition and heavy duty masonry repair. I called Phillips Home Improvement based on the recommendations from Angie's List. Our son (who has a disability) lives with two friends who also have disabilities. About two years ago, we added a sunroom / porch to the back of the house. We noticed that the adjoining wall showed evidence of water leaks -- and suddenly there was mold! We needed someone to evaluate why the roof was leaking and fix it! Rob came shortly after we called and was very pleasant. We explained why we called -- and he went onto the roof and told our home coordinator that the chimney needed repair work. He took pictures -- but we didn't see them. Based on the conversation between Rob and the home coordinator, we families agreed to have the work completed. I paid them within a few days. UNFORTUNATELY we had a heavy rain that week. Water poured into the house (along the chimney and in the dining room that's connected to the sunroom / porch.) We called Phillips Home Improvement and left a message asking them to come back to see the leaks and to fix them! It took two weeks to connect -- and then Rob returned. We also had a second contractor (at the same time) take a look at the roof. It turns out that Rob -- on behalf of Phillips Home Improvement -- only made a visual inspection! He didn't lift any of the shingles! Our second contractor lifted up four shingles and saw the problem!! Rob never told us that the only evaluation is a visual inspection. (Later, he said they didn't want to get sued!) We had no idea! How could Rob, or anyone, have figured out the problem without doing some investigative work?! As a result of the "new look" -- with the lifting of the shingles -- Rob gave us an estimate of $850 to fix the area where the sunroom / porch joins the the back of the house. The second contractor gave us an estimate of $650 and he said he could begin the work right away. He covered the problem area with a tarp -- and then allowed the area to dry out before fixing the area. He did a terrific job. 9066Just this week I called Phillips Home Improvement to ask for the pictures (of the chimney) that they had promised. I was also hoping for a refund of $650 -- the amount it took to fix the area where the sunroom / porch connected with the house. Well, Rob was defensive and then I talked with someone who works in the office. She sent pictures to my phone -- and there was no willingness to give us any of our money back. Would never recommend this company.
Description of Work: Rob did a visual evaluation of our roof (which was leaking near the sunroom that was added to the back of the house). Rob made repairs to the chimney (base) and sealed the stone around the base of the chimney. He also sealed the stucco and stone with weather shield coating.

Dear Member, Thank you for taking your time to write a review. On the 23rd of September we met with the families friend to inspect the inside of the home, as well as the roof. We had no contact or communication with the homeowner or the homeowners mother. The family friend showed Rob the exact location of the leak. Rob went on the roof to visually inspect what could be causing the leak. He found that the pipe flange and the chimney were wide open for water penetration. With this particular home being a shingled ("A" framed) roof. The 2 areas (chimney and the pipe flange) were aligned with the active leak. We provided the family friend with an estimate (still not hearing from the home owner or the mother). The family friend emailed and asked us to do the work. We completed the job, exactly what was stated in the proposal. We received a phone call stating that the roof was still leaking (This was on Nov. 5th). We set up an appointment to meet with another family friend (a contractor). He showed Rob the active leak and took Rob on the roof. The family friend (contactor), lifted the shingles, breaking the seal of the existing roof. This is something that we do not do when we estimate a roof, due to liabilities with compromising the integrity of a good roof. We found out that the original company (the company who installed the rear addition) failed to properly flash the metal along the roof line. After viewing this on Nov 9th, we sent the proposal to do the additional work. We didn't receive a response until January 4th, stating that her contractor (family friend) completed the work for $200.00 cheaper. The mother at this point (whom we never spoke with or had contact with demanded that we pay for the family friend to do the work). Now from the beginning we did our work in full and went back after a leak to was discovered. It will never be our responsibility to open a roof to inspect (due to liabilities and warranties) and it will certainly never be our responsibility to pay for a clients roof to be fixed when it was not our fault from day one. Keep in mind, we did not do a new roof on this particular home, it was only a repair. We did our work that was sent over in writing from the very beginning. We stand by our work, always did and always will!

***Update : 04/06/2016 The dusts have settled. It is time for the final update. It is important to set the facts straight. 1. The pictures posted in the review are NOT from the original estimate date. They were taken AFTER the roof was installed and later leaked. After PHI failed to repair the leak after numerous attempts, we had another contractor open the ceiling and document the leak and hoped to communicate with PHI to help their repairs. Not only PHI failed to repair it, they made FALSE statements about these pictures, which they KNEW we took after the roof leak. We have digital files to prove their dates. 2. PHI claims we made "threatening emails". The first "threatening" we did was to post the review on AL after they repeatedly failed to repair the leak. The day after the review was posted, PHI emailed us to accuse us of "being nasty" and "making threats". Below is the actual email from Philips (we saved all our communications, everyone should do so): ""We understand you are frustrated with the ongoing leak. We do however respond to every email and every phone. We also show up to your home we say we are going to. You do not need to get nasty or make threats, because we certainly do not like this kind of action. We are people and we demand respect, just like you! So we will continue to honor our work and make necessary repairs that we see fit. We will be out tomorrow to make repairs to the location of the leak. "" Our response: "" If your definition of being "nasty" and "making threats" is a customer demanding responsible action from a contractor for defect/dysfunctional products provided by the contractor, then I am very sorry to say that apparently we have very different definitions. I did not use any profanities and made any wrong accusations. If speaking truth is being "nasty", then I guess truth is nasty. If writing a review in order to demand attention is "making threats" then judged by your response, it is working just fine........I really want the issue to be resolved in a positive way. But please don't make yourself the victim, when we paid a significant amount of money and have every right to demand you to honor your promise/warranty.......A $13,000 roof that leaks for half a year and you can't fix it for >6 trips. If you don't think there is anything wrong with the sentence then I am glad that I finally took action to demand your full attention "" Judge on your own if we were being unfair to the company. 3. After these communications, they did come out 2-3 more times to "fix" the issue, and we appreciated the efforts. The owner emailed us to say he would personally make sure it gets repaired. Then we found out through AL that PHI had responded to the review and claimed the case "closed" on their end since they have completed the repair(11/25/15). All without confirming with us if the leak is actually fixed. Sure enough, It leaked from 11/30-12/1 when there was a day-long rain(even worse than previously). At the time, we decided to hire extra help. I don't know what were we supposed to do when they were unable to troubleshoot and repair leaky roof (less than 1-year old) after so many times. Every time they came, they either stayed for 10-20 min(when we were home), or left their card on the door to prove their presence. For us, it was impossible to tell what they did or didn't do. But the bottom line is that the leak was never fixed. ***Funny that they mentioned the fascia causing the leak. When we mentioned this, PHI's response was "Fascia can't possibly be the cause, if anyone said that it caused the leak they don't deserve to call themselves good roofers". Said that's why they didn't install the fascia with the new roof, and it would cost extra. Now they are blaming us to NOT have the fascia so the roof leaked. So they charged us $13,000 for a new roof w/o fascia that is so critical if the new roof leaks or not??? ***The new contractor inspected the roof/ceiling when it rained(and leaked); spent 3 days repairing the problematic areas. Then Voila! Dry as bone the next time it rained. We requested, through AL(We would like to thank Jessica from AL to moderate our communications), PHI to pay for the roof repair(~$1800), and they declined (expected). So we spent $13,000 to get a new, leaky roof, and the warranty was useless since they were incapable of fixing a long-lasting leak, and we spent more money ourselves to fix everything in 3 days that PHI made minimum effort to do and failed for months, then they made false statements on a public review platform(I believe they are called "lies"). ***What is more infuriating is that the new contractor discovered that PHI did a poor job to install the new roof to begin with. We were told that PHI's subpar quality of works likely contributes to the leak. Most are just shoddy works, but there were also blatant violations of roofing standards. Ex. A promised 3-feet wide water shielding barrier above the front gutter was found to be only 18-inches wide...etc. We know that roofing is the easiest job to cut corners, but seeing it ourselves that how we were told bold-faced lies by dishonest contractors, it was really disappointing. We documented in pictures(some are shared here) and have statements from independent contractors if we are willing to go to court. ***We expect PHI to do nothing but denying all these accusations/facts. Obviously we won't recommend anyone to this company, and just want to tell our side of the story. The company raised a good question: "Why would a home owner deliberately do these things to a good contractor? " Maybe we simply had too much time, so we paid PHI to install a leaky roof then went out of our way to defame PHI that has nothing to do with the leak of the roof they installed; Or maybe we are telling the truth and want to warn others of PHI's behaviors. Unfortunately, you are left with your own judgement to decide whose "temperament" to trust, at your own risk. We sincerely hope that this serves as a lesson for PHI to do a better job to serve their customers. ****** It started well. We found them on Angie's list, and they have overall good grades. They responded to inquiry quickly and sent people to provide estimate promptly. The original estimate was ~$11,000 to replace the entire old roof (including gutters), but later they found that many sheaths under the roof were rotten and needed to be replaced so the price tag ended up around $13,000. The communication was good and the workers were nice and efficient when the roof was installed. The finished product looked good and we were satisfied. Although soon we discovered some sloppiness, such as scattered debris from old roof around the house, and that multiple gutter downspouts were not properly fastened, the rood held up through the winter and we didn't pay much attention to these seemingly unimportant details. *Then the first leak happened after a late spring storm. Water came down above the front door, through the door frame and all the way to the hardwood floor. Naturally we freaked out and contacted PHI. A crew was sent out for a inspection and repair. The leak seemed to have stopped, but we had they come back to secure the downspouts (which should have been done in the beginning anyway) since they had been blown sideways after windy weathers. Then a summer storm came, the same leak happened again. By this time, the wallpaper above the front door had peeled off due to all the water traffic, and the doorframe had also deteriorated. More calls were made, PHI came out at least 4 more times but the issue had not been resolved. We had different contractors remove the drywall above the front door, and terrifyingly we can see water going right through the roof and dripping right into our house. By now it leaks everytime it rains, regardless of how heavy the rain is. *We had contemplated hiring other contractors to fix it. But we feared that PHI would void the warranty. Obviously, the warranty has been useless so far. We also had independent contractors inspecting the roof and providing suggestions to how to fix the issue. We relayed these suggestions to PHI, but was told insistently that those were wrong suggestions. We also met in person to discuss the issue, when they assured us that they know how to fix it, and home owners sometimes "have their own ideas" that are ill-advised. They promised multiple approaches to fix the issue, including removing roof from suspicious spot to inspect underneath, and extending roofing materials over dripping edge to avoid water entry (the later should have been done in the begining anyway). One more leaky night later, they came out to "fix" it, according to a phone call from the office and a card left at our door. Then next day, the exact same leak happened again in a modest rain. And there was no sign of anything they suggested during our conversation was done at all. I have contacted PHI again, but it has been silence for 4 days now. The bottomline is that we paid >$13,000 for a leaky roof and it has been leaking for more than half a year now. *PHI so far: (1) failed to fix it after >6 trips, (2) resisted to acknowledge suggestions from other contractors (they rejected one suggestion because it was not in the contract and they would be "happy" to do it with extra charge...Guess I missed the "leaky roof" they promised in the contract, too) (3) offered only lip service and failed to do things they promised to us face-to-face. It has been a stressful process so far. We believe that we have given (more than)enough benefit of the doubt toward PHI than their actions warrant. It is hard for us to understand why it is so difficult to do a thorough inspection and fix the leak. It is either: (a) They have scammed us. (b) They don't take customer service/warranty seriously after you've paid. (c) They are simply incompetent contractors.

Response from Phillips Home Improvement LLC
Thanks for your feedback, we greatly appreciate it! We, Phillips Home Improvement LLC, installed a new shingle roof for [Member’s name removed] on November 20, 2014. The job was complete in satisfactory with [Member’s name removed] and the job was paid in full. A few months after the roof was installed, the homeowner contacted us regarding a gutter issue. We responded the same day and went out the following day to install a new end cap on the gutter (no extra charge). On October 14, 2015 the homeowner contracted us regarding a leak above his door. We responded the same day and scheduled our team to repair the roof the following day. Our team made repairs to the area above the door. The home owner called the following rain storm to let us know that the leak was still active. We dispatched our team again to trouble shoot the roof. After the next rain storm the problem persisted. The home owner started forwarding threatening emails about posting a negative review on Angies List and also stated that if we don’t respond he will hire someone else to fix the issue and bill us. With that said, we have been in contact with the homeowner from day one. We always showed up to work on the active leak and always responded or left business cards when we were on his property. The last time we went to [Member’s name removed]s home, we made more repairs to the roof (November 23, 2015). This time we removed the shingles, gutter and flashings to figure out where the sheathing would be wet. We reflashed the bottom of the valley (this area lines up with the door at the active leak). We installed new shingles to the exposed area, flashings and reinstalled the gutter. After our last visit and several rain storms, the home owner did not contact us. We reached out to him several times to make sure the issue was resolved. We took it upon ourselves to visit the home to make sure all was good. We found that he finally got the fascia work complete, which in turn was causing his leak from the very beginning. We never provided him with an estimate for the fascia because of his temperament near the end of our original contract. The pictures posted on the home owners review, were from the original estimate date (November 14, 2014). After we completed the roof, the home owner did not get the ceiling finished. The ceiling is still like that till this day! We are not sure how a home owner could deliberately do these things to a good contractor. We always did and always will stand by our work!

Rob stopped by, 1 hour and 15 minutes late, and proceeded to say "what am I late or something?" He was very rude the entire time. He did not bring a ladder to get to the main roof!! This was a roofing estimate, he took no pictures, no measurements and never made it to the next roof. When I commented about all of those things he sort of shrugged and said he'd have to come back to make it to the main roof. Completely shocked at being treated this way (as a potential customer) I called Marie at their office to tell her about it and her explanation was that he may have had a bad day. No excuse for how I was treated; I would never use them no matter how cheap that estimate was.

I had an appointment with Rob last week to work on my roof but they cancelled. They rescheduled for today and I have been sitting in my living room all day waiting for them. I called them at 3pm and again at 3:15pm but they did not answer. I just checked my front door and there was a note from them saying that I was not at home. I have been sitting in the next room all day. They didn't even knock or ring the door bell and I have a great loud doorbell. I'll be using another roofing company.

I had given them a great review the first time, because they would answer or return phone calls. They would make an appointment and come on time. I thought they had solved my leaking shed problem. As I mentioned they came out on about 3 different occasions and the leak would stop for awhile. This last time they informed me that there is nothing anybody can do about the leak. They stated that my gutter is the problem, that it fills up and causes the leak. Then they said that they would have to caulk the whole thing. When I call to find out how much that would cost, now nobody wants to answer or return my calls. I waited before I decided to change my review to see how long it would take be Maureen gets back with me after checking with the guy that informed me of my now new situation. I think they want me go away just like I wish my leak would go away. Unfortunately the leak is back.
Description of Work: Caulked different places on my shed about 3 different times.

We were really happy with the work. The only real issue is that they are hard to get back to the property for little odds and ends jobs. But are great for large jobs. But the results are what I love. I hated this house before they came and redid it for us, now it's home.
Description of Work: Demoed and built an open floor plan on the first floor. Completed an upstairs bathroom Put. New roof on the back kitchen.

It went well. I called them in the morning. I explained to them that my former roofer was stalling, giving me the run around and held me up from work they promised to get done. For over two weeks I was desperately trying to get work finished because my house was going on the market. Phillips came out the same day, I called them and took care everything for me. I was so impressed with their work. There are no leaks or anything, even when it rains very hard. I am so proud of the work they did and the professionalism in which they handled themselves. I highly recommend this company. They are on my list for any future work I may need done.
Description of Work: Roof maintenance - Installed new 3 course roof cement and membrane application to all potential water penetrations (drain and the chimney).

When I contacted Phillips I made sure to ask if Pottstown was place they would want to service as it's not close to Philadelphia. I setup the first appoitment end of April and that one was canceled the day before. Then I setup anther appointment the 2nd week of May and for this one they did not even attempt to call and cancel this appointment was a no show. I called them back and left a voicemail asking if they were coming out or if they wanted to rescheduled no response so I figure I should probably not pursue this company.
Description of Work: I attempted to obtain an estimate for a new roof in Pottstown, PA.

Overall, the work itself is excellent. No doubt. The only negative I had was communication and pricing. It was extremely difficult trying to get a hold of anyone from the company throughout the process. I purchased the deal via Angie's list and contacted company later on to see about setting up a date for the work. Initially, the company was interested in obtaining the funds from Angie's list before committing to any work date. The purchased deal was for $6499. The total, with additional work ended up being over $11,000 (which is practically the cost for a new roof, so you're not saving any money). Once that was settled an estimate was given for any additional costs (in our case, I knew we had more than 1 layer of shingles, the deal was only food for the removal of 1). They suggested other items be installed that would help with drainage and help to prevent molding/decay etc. which seemed reasonable. A date was scheduled. Crew showed up on Saturday morning and proceeded to work until 3pm which was the end of the work schedule (their labor). They returned the following day (Sunday) but presented me with an updated quote for additional which was twice the amount that was originally estimated. I found this a bit unprofessional because these were things that should have been covered during the initial inspection. This additional cost should have been covered by the roofing company because it was a mistake on their end, but I didn't feel like hassling over it (yes, it was a good amount and the overall work was done very well). It just seemed like a cheap mistake and something that should not have been given to me initially. I would recommend the company because they do great work, but I would not recommend the Angie's list deal because it does not cover enough items for a new roof to make it worth purchasing. If anything, I'd suggest buying coupons for smaller projects from Angie's list so that you're not surprised by large additional amounts for projects already under way. If you do purchase this deal, make sure the company is thorough in their initial check up so that they don't try to surprise you with any 'additional' work.. (which was not brought to my attention until AFTER it was completed.).
Description of Work: Removed old roof shingles. Installed new roof shingles, drain paper, and other misc. drainage items. Provided clean up which I would say was 98% done well (there was a good amount of debris/nails still remaining around the property after completion) but the majority of the trash was well handled and removed with minimal scratching to siding. (from falling shingles, ladders, etc.)
