Called for an estimate on replacing our central air system after having an addition to our home completed. I made an appointment with Mike who arrived as scheduled. He took a look at the furnace and cooling system in the basement and explained that our furnace unit is too big for our house. I explained that the furnace is only two years old and that I was not looking to replace it at this time. Mike pointed out a few other items to me and then took a look at the unit outside. All told he spent about 20-30 minutes at the house. I asked him about timing on getting his estimate and he said that he could mail it or drop it off but it would be quicker if he mailed it. I asked if he could e-mail it to me and gave him both my work and home e-mail addresses. It is nearly two weeks after the appointment and I still have not received an estimate as promised. Consequently, we are having the work done by another company.

We make every effort to be as thorough as possible with every estimate. I put together a detailed estimate for this customer and mailed it the next day. I left a message to let the homeowner know the estimate had been mailed and followed up 3 days later, but my call was not returned. We regret that we were unable to make a connection in a timely manner and were unable to satisfy the homeowner's needs.

Philadelphia Gas & Electric Heating & A/C were excellent. They here the next morning and everything was put in real fast. They were in and out in about half an hour. Everything has been working fine ever since. I'm getting ready to call them back again.

Mike has always been available for me when I call or if not he calls as soon as he can. I have a nothing but a pleasurable experience from Mike as he has excellent customer service.
Description of Work: I had already had a new heating and cooling system installed in 2010. So I knew they were excellent! I called Mike (the owner) to tell him that my heater wasn't powering up. He told me to go to my thermostat and he proceeded to instruct me how to troubleshoot my system. After a few different screens, Mike seemed to already know my problem. He told me to go outside and look at my venting pipes and make sure there wasn't anything blocking them! To my surprise i went to look and a small white plastic shopping bag had been blown over the top and was partially sucked in the pipe. As soon as I removed the bag my system went right back on!!!! Did I mention this was a Sunday morning!!!! He talked me through and in no time my house was toaty warm again!!!

They did the maintenance at the Big Deal price of $99, but charged us $89.00 for labor, $42.00 for a wheel, $18.00 for a fan, and $239.00 for the motor. All of these items, excluding the fan and labor, were marked up from their original costs, especially the motor. We found the price for the items on a valid website that stated the motor was only $87.00. I called and asked him why the mark-up on the motor was so high. He stated that he could charge what ever he wanted and their was nothing we could do about it. I feel that he has taken advantage of a senior citizen.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $99 for Annual Maintenance Contract With Seasonal Heating OR A/C Tune-Up from them to do maintenance on a heating unit for my father, whom I take care of. We called and scheduled the maintenance. Between the time we called to schedule and when they came out to do the work, the motor on the unit quit working. They came out, did regular maintenance and replaced the motor.

We installed the HVAC system in this customer's home in 2002. The Annual Maintenance Contract they purchased was the first repair and/or maintenance this system received. Since the system has never been serviced and looked neglected, we spent a bit more time performing the prepaid maintenance they had ordered. The maintenance consisted of cleaning the burner & flame sensor, checking the blower motor & circuit board, checking the draft and smoke pipe, checking the system for any abnormalities & getting the system into operating condition. We did find that the electronic air cleaner was not working properly and temporarily installed a mechanical air cleaner media filter at no charge. When the homeowner brought the problem with the motor to our attention, we diagnosed the system & provided them with the cost of the repair, including a 20% discount. We ordered the part, picked it up and installed it the same day. We pride ourselves on being able to properly diagnose & solve HVAC issues with trained & certified technicians and treat every customer with courtesy and respect. We are disappointed that the customer didn't see it that way. In fact, many of the parts that are listed and offered on the Internet are not factory authorized parts and can void the warranty on the heater.

It was about 25 degrees out and the furnace, which had been clanking loudly as well as switching off at odd times for several weeks, finally decided to cut out altogether. I searched Angie's List for a Heating/Cooling contractor who could come and evaluate and fix the problem ASAP. I received a call back from several companies, including Philadelphia Gas & Electric Heating & A.C. In fact, I had already made an appointment with another contractor, but the PG & EH A/C technician, Mike, said if he had a break in his schedule, he'd come out immediately. I said OK, as the first company to get here was the one that was going to do the work. It was freezing in my home. Mike asked what kind of furnace we had so that he could make sure he brought any relevant parts or components with him. He called back just about an hour later and said he was on his way. I phoned to cancel the other contractor. Mike arrived promptly and was dressed appropriately in a company parka, etc., which as a safety precaution, I appreciated. He came in with his tools, didn't try to chit-chat (which I also appreciated) and got right to work. Within five minutes he'd done a partial diagnosis. Within twenty minutes or so, he was fully into the repair. He advised me all along the way what he was doing, what needed to be done next, etc. Turns out our ignition component had failed and Mike replaced it. He ran the furnace through a cycle, wrote up my bill, took the payment and we were all done. Then, I had questions about how to maintain the furnace so that future emergencies could be avoided. I have to say, Mike's encyclopedic knowledge of heating systems, the types, how they work, what they need, how to get the most bang for your buck in systems, etc., was incredible. By the time he left, about ten minutes later, I had a full working understanding of my system, how to keep it going and what I might replace it with, should I choose to go that route. Then, Mike offered to send some brochures on new systems, which I gladly agreed to receive.

In light of the experience with PHILADELPHIA GAS & ELECTRIC HEATING & A/C, I would use and highly recommend them time and again. They are a clear example of how contractor service should be conducted and a key model to repeat customer usage, recommendation, and over all company profitability.
Description of Work: The serviceman was highly knowledgable, informative, and most importantly, honest in conducting a simple cleaning to a furnace sensor. This was a case where a lot of other heating contractors would and/or could have taken advantage of an unknowing costumer but, "PHILADELPHIA GAS & ELECTRIC HEATING & A/C", did not!

My heater broke on a Tuesday night. I called in the morning on Wednesday and I had someone out by the early afternoon. The guy who came got right to work, diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part for next day delivery. He gave me a temporary fix so the heat would run enough to keep my apt and dog from getting really cold which was a really nice. He gave me a follow up call that evening to check in and told me he would call the next day when the part came in. The part came in the very next day and another guy came and put it in. Really good service and I'm very happy with it. This is the second time I've used this company and the results are consistently good. Will use in the future for all my HVAC needs!!

When I would cut my heater on, water would leak all over in the basement. I call this company to come and check it out. At first he said the water pressure was to high, so he fixed it. When he left the heater started to leak again. I called back and he came out again. He said that the pipe need to be drained. He drained the pipes, and I had no problems since then. Was very pleased with the service. They was very professional and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone.

I don't have a good recall of the situation. I believe the AC stopped working or was blowing only warm air. I think it needed cleaning and freon. The person who came was very knowledgable and courteous. I did not have the money to pay for the service at the time, so the technician (I don't remember his name) spoke to my brother who lives in Wisconsin and he paid for it with a credit card. I remember my brother being impressed with the technician and felt he was being very honest. The tech advised my brother that the AC unit was very old and may not have too many more good years of life. Yet, he did not seem anxious to talk my brother into spending a lot of money at that time to replace the system. I think I may have even had a yearly contract but never called for a tune-up like I was supposed to in the spring. The truth is I couldn't remember the name of the company but once I saw your e-mail it rang a bell!
Description of Work: I don't really recall the exact amount or date but what was done was service for my air conditioner which required going on the roof of complex, cleaning and servicing the AC.

I called several times on 1/17/2012, to set up an appointment ( the phones were busy). I finally spoke to someone and left my information and I did receive a phone call from Mike in a timely manner. He couldn't make it that same day but we agreed to the next day during my lunch time. He looked at the furnace on 1/18/12 and measured the house ( the only person to do that) and said what size furnace I needed. He said that I would need a chimney liner and that he has a person to do it for an additional $800 dollars. He said that I would need it with the new furnace to protect the brick over time (another first from the other estimates I received). Everyone mentioned a flue that would go to the chimney and Mike said it was the same thing. He told me that if I didn't get the liner he would have to write it on the contract that i refused the liner in order to protect the company in case something were to occur with the furnace in a few years. MIke was very informative, took his time and answered all of my questions. He asked me if I wanted him to write up a proposal and I said yes. He told me that he would email the proposal that afternoon plus put one in the mail. I didn't have any heat and asked him how long would it take to get the furnace installed once I decided to go with him. He said right away, he would treat it as an emergency. I have yet to receive a proposal or a call from Mike regarding the furnace and it is 1/24/12. I'm glad that i had another estimate that was great and they came out right away to put the furnace in right before we got snow on 1/21/12. I don't know what happened!!! 2/1/2012- I never received an emailed or a phone call after our meeting but I did received the verbal price. I wanted to use your compamy because of all the great reviews I read.

Mike Toran took the time to explain all of his work to me as he was completing things on a step-by-step basis. He also took the time to literally draw me a picture so that I was able to comprehend the heating process that much better. He was also a good conversationalist, so the time he was at my house passed quickly. I feel that while I spent a sum of money on the repair, I learned a lot and have a basic knowledge with which to proceed in the future.
Description of Work: Mike Toran installed a new circulator pump to my heater, bled my radiators, and discussed how to keep my heater working with nominally priced yearly maintenance. He also discussed with me that I should consider also having my chimney serviced, as a way to keep the heating flow strong in my home. He also provided the name of a chimney guy (which he believed is also on Angie's List) that his company is associated with. Because Mike's service, patience, and quality of work was stellar, I plan to call this chimney company in the fall for Winter 2012.

They were very helpful, polite and professional. By the time they left the unit was cooling again and they were done. He asked if I had any coupons from Angies list (I told them that's how I got their name) and I explained I didn't have a printer. He gave me the value of the coupon without it. Good service with a cherry on top. Well done.
Description of Work: My central air wasn't working. Called on tuesday and wednesday, they had someone out on thursday morning. On time. They looked at my main unit, changed the filter, put some foam tape on the copper piping, and added some new refrigerant to the unit.

I tried to get a sevice call on a Fri as my heat pump A/C wasn't working. Went to bed at 76 degrees woke up to 85 and it's supposed to be 102 degress today! Mike called back and said they were swamped and as I didn't have a service contract they would not be able to come out until next week. Mike then spent 10 minutes with me explaining what the problem may be (fuses) where to find them on the unit etc. He also suggested I hose off the coils, spray with a cleaner and hose off again. While not as good as a service call Mike restored my faith that there are good, honest, decent people in the in the service trade. I may consider a service agreement going forward and wanted to share this positive experience.

He was a great guy and great to talk to. He came out and looked at what I needed and told me that he would email me an estimate. I never got the estimate. I had to call twice for him to come out. He was very informative and very easy to talk to. I actually wanted to use him, but he did not get back, and I will probably use someone else now. I did not like the guy because he did not get back to me.

We had to replace a 2 year old furnace can you believe. It was too big for the house and never worked correctly. Mike explained why it wasn't working properly and that a new furnace wasn't really necessary but we would be calling someone for repairs all winter (as had already happened). We decided it was better to replace the furnace now rather than later. He's a really nice guy. Very specific and detailed in his explanations. The installers ran into an unforeseen problem (so what else is new with this house) and he responded quickly to come out and help them. We are super pleased with the new furnace and the fine tuning they did on the CAC. We now have a yearly maintenance contract with them and they call us before we get a chance to call them. Excellent work; excellent service. I don't think you can do better.
Description of Work: Install new gas furnace; connect to existing supply & return; improve return by adding 6" line & grille; install new mechanical air cleaner; hook-up new thermostat. Also spiffed up the CAC set-up.
