This contractor does not fundamentally understand the purpose of stucco as a part of a building envelope, e.g. to seal the outer walls and provide a weep plane for moisture. The hard to reach parts were to be painted with a sealant. This contractor seems to view stucco as purely a finish job. I also believe the stucco thickness is too thin and will crack significantly in short time. I did manage to get a 10 year warranty for the workmanship, but don't believe its worth much from this contractor, e.g. I doubt they would add another coat to cure the thickness issue at no cost. Both the stucco and painting were complete to the eye, from a distance, but a closer look after all was done revealed many parts incomplete. Its poor enough quality that I would most likely not want to have them back to cure the problems, I will likely hire another contractor. A top quality contractor would never leave such poor workmanship behind. I did read review of the inconsistent quality and can confirm the truth. If you use this contractor for basic work you might be fine. I do not recommend using this contractor for stucco unless its straightforward, i.e. over top masonry and much less than the price I paid. I spoke to Paul about this review and we agreed to address the incomplete work, the cracking that I noticed and thin finish coat spots in the spring when the weather warms-up. At some point Paul's cement apparently also came back to the site and dumped clean-up debris (comprised of clippings from trees that were cut down) back to the site. This debris was not present when they first left the site. I've since downgraded the professionalism and overall grade. Hopefully they make up for it in the spring. (I'll update the review)

Paul and his team was very thorough in the job. My basement walls were falling apart....it was necessary I had to have them repaired in order to refin my house. While working in and out of my house they made sure they laid down drop cloths so my hardwood floors wouldn't get damaged. Once finished I couldn't believe my eyes that I was looking at the same walls. They did a great job...I am looking forward to working with them on a stucco job in the spring.
Description of Work: Paul and his team came out and took a look at the job I had for them. I only had to wait a few hours to receive my estimate.

I was very fortunate that they had a cancellation of a job the night before and they came the very next day (Friday 9/13/13), after we agreed to the pricing. There were 5 men who showed up at 8:27 AM and everybody had their job to do. They were done and left at 2:05 PM. On Tuesday 9/17/13, Paul Sr. came and removed the forms for the concrete pad. Only snag was that while I went over the pricing twice with Paul Sr. before hand and what was included in the pricing, when he showed up on Friday 9/13, he said he neglected to include the small three tiered garden wall I wanted made of the extra WP Henry stones that I had left over from another job years ago and that he would have to charge me another $750. I was upset as I already had the stones in place (and they aren't lightweight either), but the area had to be leveled out a bit and the stones set correctly. I declined to pay the extra cost and ended up doing the job myself...not an easy task, but it didn't cost me $750 either. The only other thing I did for myself regarding this project was to buy special concrete stucco all weather paint (it expands/contracts with the weather temperature) and repaint the stucco on the house. Took me 4 days to do. I painted on 2 coats which should last 15-20 years and it cost me approximately $85 for 4 gallons of paint (in 1 gallon containers). Paul told me he was going to call with an estimate to do this job, but he never got back to me, so I did it myself. He did tell me that the paint he would use would cost $200 alone (5 gallon containers) and should last 15-20 years. I have no idea how much he would have charged me for doing the job in total. I'm still happy with what they did...and with what I was able to do myself.
Description of Work: Poured a concrete pad approximately 10 feet x 5 feet (to match existing one I already had) - $750. I partially fenced in this pad and stored my cut and split firewood on it, then tarped it to keep the wood dry and let it cure. They (and this is what it says on the bill): Beads of cement and repair cemented walls and steps as needed. Includes Octoweld Beading agent and natural color waterproof cement - $875. What this means is that all along the base of the brick house, they poured in concrete with a slight little lip on it to seal the house from water running in from rain, storms, melting snow and ice. They repaired the back porch where concrete was eroding around main porch railing posts, they "beaded" the steps where needed in the same way as the base of the house. They also repaired the stucco on the back and side of the house, the side steps of the house and did some extra work at no charge that they thought needed fixing.

He knows his job, he was very accommodating. He did not bother me about payment at all, I paid the full amount after it was done. He did it timely, was able to do it in two days. The job itself is very impressive, I am very satisfied. I am comfortable that I will not have a problem in many years to come.

Paul and his crew were fast, efficient, clean and thorough. They did a phenomenal job and I am so thankful we found them on Angie's List and had them do the job. He gave us more than we expected and we were amazed when he told us the concrete has properties in it that would melt snow which would cut down on shoveling. They were all pleasant and cleaned up when done. I will definitely be keeping his card in a safe place if my front sidewalk ever needs to be done.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew broke up the old cement flooring that was part of the garage that my husband tore down years ago and was buckled. He then applied a new concrete surface in the back half of our yard so we could park our car and our daughter's there.

Paul came to my home and gave an estimate for the work we needed done to our patio area. We did receive a written estimate for the work the following day delivered personally by Paul. He did leave several voice mail messages inquiring about the service he provided. Thanks for your time.
Description of Work: Paul did give an estimate for the cement work. We decided to go with another contractor recommended to us by a friend. The price was lower than the quote from Paul.

Description of Work: I called Paul and he came out that day to give me an estimate to have the stucco on my house repaired and painted. Paul was very polite punctual and enthusiastic when providing a quote for the replacement of 2.5 cement blocks and curb repair. However the quality of the work was terrible and efforts to resolve the problem took over 30 days and I am still not happy with the final product. The guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on. Do not be fooled by his rating.

To say that this company and all of the people that work for them, are super professional is an understatement. Jim worked with us to give us the best price possible. He gave pointers on how to reduce the cost. Irwin came out and repaired out ceiling and WOW what an amazing job. He is more of a perfectionist than I am! They are on time, clean up and do a fantastic job.
It went great. All the work was done in a timely manner with no inconvenience to myself. When I came home from work everything was clean just as I left in the morning.
Description of Work: I had my basement cemented, a block on my pavement and my 2 walls in my yard.
Paul seems like a really nice guy who would be fun to hang out with, but he left a lot to be desired as a contractor. When I first called Paul, he was very friendly and personable on the phone. We chatted about all sorts of things, including how his business volume has dropped off to a tenth of what it used to be. I thought he would be excited to look at all the work I needed. I described to him what I needed done and he said he was actually working in the area, so he could drop by my place and have a look that afternoon or the next morning. I didn't hear back from him for days. He finally called back on a Saturday, but I missed his call. I returned the call within a half hour, but got his voice mail and left a message. He never called back. The following week, I was supervising some landscaping and decided to give Paul another call. He answered and said he was in the area and could stop by in an hour. He actually showed up early and was polite, but seemed annoyed. Upon inspecting the work that needed to be done, he seemed very apathetic about the job. He said it would be a lot of work and expense and probably would not be worthwhile to fix up my house. He didn't take any measurements, but said he would get back to me. So far, it has been a week and I have not heard back.
Description of Work: Wanted to get an estimate on excavating and debris removal, a concrete driveway, walkway, patio, steps, and maybe some brick pointing and chimney work if the other jobs went well.
I contacted Paul's Cement on Monday morning and Paul the owner of the company came out that same afternoon at the time that he stated. My neighbor and I had been looking for someone to replace our sidewalks for the last 3 years and just didn't get a good feel for other companies that we had contacted. He gave a good price for the work that was needed and made us feel very comfortable with his knowledge and skills of his craft. He was very down to earth and never made us feel that he putting any pressure on us to have him get the job. He told us what was really needed as opposed to what we thought was need even if that was cutting him out of some addition money. When we asked him about how much he required as a down payment, he said that we would pay after the job was completed. I have never worked with a company that did not asked for at least half down before they would touch a job. This to me was a sign of a very trusting and honest person. We decided to have the work done and based his honesty and professionalism I decided to also have him replace a part of my backyard area. His crew was here at 8:15 that Wednesday morning as promised and started the work, they was very professional, they worked from the time that they arrived until the time the job was completed. There was no playing around they were very organized and each knew exactly what needed to be done and what their particular task were. They were very concerned about any questions or concerns that we had and addressed them immediately. They had to carry out debris and carry in cement throught a very narrow alley into my backyard and never at anytime did I hear anyone complain. His sons and the other crew members was very skilled in their work and took great pride in doing it. Paul came out at the end of the day and made sure we were satisified. When we noticed a few days later after everything had dried some minor issues he came right out and corrected it. I highly recommend this company and would use them again. I got an outstanding job done by a very highly skilled company and I'm very happy and satisified with the workmanship. Hats off to Paul's Cement.

i am updating this review because its been a year since service and now my concrete has cracks going along the whole backyard. I highly do not recconmend anyone to hire these guys for any work. It was a nightmare from day one when they started the project. I pacifically ask to concrete the whole backyard. they left out two feet of concrete saying i didn't ask to concrete those areas! Now why would i not want my whole backyard concreted especially when I am paying for the whole project ? Don't make sense! Also when I made them aware of the situation, they told me to ask Paul because they was told not to concede the two areas. Once I spoke to paul, he said it was to late to put the new concrete down for those two areas because the concrete would be different colors once dry which i would have not mine at all. So he came up with another option which was to use concrete paint for the two feet which they dropped the ball on. Now i didn't want to go with that option but i really had no other choose. I took to Angie's list to submit my review about my nightmare. After placing a review for us as customers with the truth and no bias, Paul called my the next day with a lot of animosity. He was angry about the review saying his customers would be scared away from a bad review. It's unprofessional to call someone with anger in your voice. So i took down the review because i wanted to give him another chance as long he kept his word and got the concrete paint done on those two feet he missed. Now it is one year after the job is done, the concrete paint he put down is cracking and peeling. And the concrete job itself is already cracking. I would rather tried to do the job myself than to hire them. And beware of these guys because they like to make phone calls harassing you about your reviews on Angie's List. But they don't put no fear in me at all. These review is solely for the Angie's list community who like myself pay yearly membership fees and have the right to post our reviews without being harassed.
I would recommend this company and will definitely call on them again for future work needed in the back of the house.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew dug up and repaved my driveway apron, the curb, and put new concrete over grass portion of the front sidewalk. They also installed new holes and drainage pipes in the retaining wall and repaired cracks in the wall, replaced and pointed missing brick, and repaired concrete cracks in the front steps and front porch. I am clueless about concrete repair, and was very impressed with Paul's knowledge of the problems and his professional assessment of the work that needed done. I felt confident that this was someone who knew what he was doing and wasn't inflating the problems or the price.

I contacted Paul's cement work for some cement repair. My front entranceway needed two fairly large concrete blocks repaired/replaced and also I needed 2 sidewalk blocks to be repaired/replaced. Paul's cement responded back to my email quote on their website fairly quickly. They got back to me within the week to schedule a time to stop by and give me an estimate. But, their estimate for the work I wanted done was by far more expensive than the 2 other cement companies I received quotes from. I'm not sure if their quality of work would have justified the price quote they gave me but for what its worth the person who came by to perform the estimate seemed very nice. If you are looking for some work to be done by this company I would suggest you check around first before going with Paul's.

Contractor came out to caulk windows, but decided to use a sealer, which he guaranteed would not run if it rained. It rained that night and the product he applied ran down the stucco on my house. Phoned the contractor who came out the next day to try to power wash the sealer from the house, product could not be removed. Contractor stated that he could acid wash this product off of the huse, I requested that he supply in insurance information before he touched my house further. As of today 1/30/2013, I have not received his insurance information althought we have spoken a few times regarding this issue. It will cost me additional money to have this discoloration removed from my fairly new stucco job.
Description of Work: Contractor came out to caulk windows, but decided to use a sealer. The total job was $2,500.00 gave the contractor the $1,500.00 to start the job.
