Basement Walls Repair
Description of Work: Our home is located in Port Richmond. Our basement walls were in need of repair. Especially, a partial wall in the crawl space and wall next to the newly installed furnace. The before and after pictures remarkable! These gentlemen came prepare to work on time. They protected by covering my brand new furnace. And, because they had to come through my home with buckets of cement, they also ensure the floors were protected as well. The craftsmanship technic of the job is totally professional and the price fair & reasonable. I could not be happier. I would most definitely recommend Paul Cement Work.

Called for an estimate, came within two days, provide a written estimate, and my husband & I agreed on it. He was able to fit us in his schedule in the next week. We have a three story colonial home, which most of the fist floor outside needed pointing, he did that, my steps and my brick gate/wall in the front.
Description of Work: Really needed house painted prior to getting it painted. Paul was very quick to respond to my call, provide estimate and provide a service date. His estimate was the most cost effective out of all the estimates received. I also referred him to a family member.

All went well. Came to do estimate rapidly, able to start work the next day. Contacted church next door to get permission to approach one of my walls via their property. Cleaned up well afterward.

He was very responsive and punctual. He provided an estimate of pointing that included a glaze covering to prevent stone from eroding. We decided not to pursue because of a separate house project.

Done promptly and cleanly and as promised.
Description of Work: Our cornice had bricks on either side that were about to fall off our house. Paul came to do the quote himself and was very professional and kind. He was also very prompt with getting the work finished and ended up resetting our steps for free (an added bonus). I appreciated how quick he was but had hoped he would've done a cleaner job making both ends of the cornice look the same. He covered both ends in concrete but not identically. In the end, I'd consider this patch repair to be more crisis management than super clean work.

After calling, Paul came to my house to provide an estimate that very same day! He provided me with three options to repair the cracks in my stucco and provided me with a lot of detail on each option. He then left to work up the estimates for each option and contacted me within 2 hours. Paul and his crew (all family members) were able to squeeze us in the following day and they finished the job in one day. The work was performed very well. Even though they had to walk through the house frequently, they were very neat and cleaned up all the mess after completing the job. I would highly recommend Paul!

Called Paul and he gave me an estimate within two days. The work was started promptly at 8 AM and completed by 1 PM. The reinforced boards where removed the next day. There was some concrete that seeped under the boards that was removed in a timely manner. Paul s sons did an excellent job. I m very happy with their work.
Description of Work: Had two blocks of concrete poured in my driveway that got damaged by tree roots and two blocks that settled on my sidewalk. A tree root was removed and fiber reinforced concrete poured.

I made at least 4 calls to him to get the estimate so that I can move forward, but no estimate never came. He never even had the courtesy to call and say he didn't want to do my job.
Description of Work: He came out quickly to give an estimate for concrete work that included a 13 x 13 concrete pad and 70 feet of walkway. He seemed knowledgeable and concerned that the previous contractor (See Building Doctors review!) had done a horrible job.

He was pleasant on the phone and came out quickly for an estimate. He was not the least expensive but left the best impression. Paul left a written contract stating the details and price of the job. We phoned him to arrange a date. He came as expected on the arranged day and completed the job the same day. Unfortunately, overnight there was some minor damage to the finish from an animal. Paul came the following morning to remove the wooden forms. After inspecting the damage, Paul suggested we wait until the concrete completely dried before deciding if a patch was necessary. I spoke with Paul on the phone while he was at my house with my wife. I explained that I would pay 80% now and the rest after the concrete fully dried and was patched if needed. Paul became irate on the phone and made my wife extremely uncomfortable. I understood his argument and paid in full. I am overall happy with the work but did not appreciate his demeanor when it came to payment.
Description of Work: Paul demolished and removed the sidewalk in front of our Philadelphia row house. He then ground out the remaining stump from a previously removed tree. He laid and tamped 3/4" of substrate and poured a 4" concrete slab. The slab was neatly divided into blocks and broom finished. Paul framed an area to replace the old tree.

Paul came out on a Friday to give an estimate. He was prompt and personable. He explained how he thought the job should be done. Very informative. By this I mean, he explained a number of ways the job COULD be done, including the "oversold" methods his competitors recommended which would have cost a lot more were unnecessary. I hired him to do the job and he fit me in that Monday, 3 days later. I met him and his excellent 6 man crew at exactly 7:45 a.m. as promised. The jobs were expertly completed by 3 pm. I can't say enough good things about Paul and his crew and the quality of the work they did.
Description of Work: Job was to demo old concrete pad in backyard of small south Philadelphia row home and replace by pouring new cement pad and to stucco back and second floor side walls over existing cinder block.

Met Paul's team on a neighbor's project; I liked the work I saw and asked for an estimate. He came by the next day and was willing to quote a complete job including the cornice painting which I believe was outside of his usual scope. The team was finished in 4 days and was very neat, throughout, and did not disrupt my home office work. I am pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Power washed front of a 2-story brick row home, pointed bricks, repaired, sealed and/or painted window lintels and cornice; repaired and painted front stairs, capped and stuccoed chimney, repaired rear stairs and secured one loose, rear window lintel. Restored a very soot stained brick home (90+ years old) to it's original appearance.

Response to my call for an estimate was very quick. Work was done very quickly and efficiently. Scheduling of the work was the only weak point: I received a call just an hour or two before the work was to begin (as the concrete was being mixed). Luckily I was at home to receive the call. Professionalism rated at B rather than A solely due to this.

Paul returned our call quickly and came out promptly for an estimate. He started the job within a week and was finished in 3 days. He and his crew cleaned up as they went along and were very neat. We were very happy with Paul and his work.
Description of Work: Paul re-pointed the front of our 3 story brick home. He sealed with waterproof on the entire front. He repaired the sidewalk brickwork of an area that was sinking, along with repairing the ground waterbox and bringing it back to height.

It went really quickly and really well. I was very happy with the work they performed and will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew removed a really old and shabby outdoor patio and step, which measured around 4' by 7'. They also removed a sizable pile of stone and dirt from the backyard. They then setup forms and poured a new larger 7' by 10' (I'm not exactly sure of the measurements here) patio and step.

It could not have gone any better. Paul was over $1000 less than any contractor I had spoken to before. He was out the same week he gave the estimate and completed all the work in 4 hours. He came back the next morning and removed the wood framing and cleaned up everything very nicely. I am very happy and would use him again.

It was hard to get Paul to come for an estimate, and he was sort of rude on the phone. But when we finally scheduled one, he seemed to know what he was talking about. We had several projects, and one was a little tricky. He did not seemed to be deterred by this, in fact, he made it sound like it would be a routine job for him. He said he would send us the official written estimate in a week or two. No one ever came. We called several times and left messages with his wife. We never heard back. We even told her that if he was too busy to take the job or had realized he wasn't interested or able to do the job, that was fine, but he needed to let us know. She reassured us that he was busy, but he would get back to us. He never did despite repeated attempts to get a clear answer from them. In a word, they were UNPROFESSIONAL.

I can't recommend these guys too highly! Paul came out promptly to give an estimate, explained the difference between concrete and cement and then gave me a price in writing. (And he has excellent handwriting!) He said that he could do the job within two weeks. When I decided to use Paul's--after getting another estimate and having other contractors unable to even get here to see the job--he said he thought he could do the job the next day but would confirm. He left me a message later that he could and I called him back at 9:30 pm to agree. The crew was here at 8 AM and everyone was polite and pleasant despite it being one of the hottest days of the year. The work was over by 1:30 and the crew cleaned up the street by the entrance to my alley where they had been mixing. Paul also gave me advice about preventing stains and laying pavers over the concrete. The job looks great!
Description of Work: Moved contents of yard. Removed old concrete from a yard 10' x 15' and put down new concrete. Repaired the bottom of a cinderblock wall about 20' long with waterproof cement. Coated a party wall with cement.

Paul was very nice, gave us his cell phone for any questions and explained to us the reasons for his approach to our basement and why not to intall sub-pump, plastic sheeting, etc. which ended up saving us thousands of dollars. He was well-under the other quotes we recieved and stuck to it. He and his crew also moved all of the stuff in our basement at no additional charge so they could do the floor! They did a great job. Clean-up was not so great and they re-installed our window incorrectly which cost us money, but overall we are pleased.

DID A VERY GOOD JOB. WORKED WITH US TO MAKE SURE OUR WORK WAS DONE BEFORE THEY STARTED A BIG JOB THAT WOULD HAVE DELAYED THE WORK FOR 3-4 WEEKS. CAME ON TIME, DID THE WORK AND TOOK ALL OLD MATERIAL AWAY. WERE WILLING TO WORK WITH THE PLUMBER TO MAKE SURE THAT THE ROUGHED IN PIPING WAS DONE BEFORE POURING THE PAD.

DID not hire the man ... would not ever want to deal with the attitude
Description of Work: The man was emphatic about the legal requirements for the job: a "variance" However, an extremely nasty personality made him someone I would not ever want to deal with. My previous report was a mix up. This was NOT the nice contractor I thought I'd met. Yet, it's better to have made a mistake that was positive than to have, wrongly, downgraded the man. This report is on the button.
