Services we offer
Residential concrete work including driveways, patios, sidewalks & basements.
They did an excellent job on both projects, and completed the job in a prompt and professional manner. The stucco project took a total of two days and the basement project was done in just a few hours. They had to go in to the basement through the house and left the house clean (put tarps down, etc). They even took away some debris that was in the basement (which was left in the house when we moved in), so that felt like a bonus part of the project. Paul is just a great guy and he knows what he's doing, as do his sons. He gave very knowledgable and fair estimates on both jobs and then completed them exactly as promised. We couldn't be happier with their work and would definitely call them again.
Description of Work: Paul and his sons and team completed two jobs for us. The first was stuccoing the back of our home and the second was concreting the unfinished portion of our basement walls.

Great. Everything was done on time and professionally done. We are happy with the work and would hire Paul's again.
Description of Work: Removed 5 broken 4 ft by 4 ft by 4 inch deep sidewalk blocks and poured 5 new blocks. Leveled area before pouring new blocks. Removed tree stump that was from tree that had fallen and damaged and pulled blocks up and out of ground before they did leveling of area and pouring of new blocks. Cut raised corner off of a sixth block and patched it level to adjacent blocks.Work looks nice and was finished on time and area was labeled and marked and blocked with barriers as hazardous so pedestrians would avoid walking through it while it set up for 24 hr. They covered with plastic to avoid rain from getting in if weather turned bad. Removed plastic and barriers after concrete had set by the next day. Very professional, courteous and did work on time. Thanks Paul's Cement!

Paul was called in (based on Angie's list recommendations) to do some work required after a home inspection. Paul was very quick to respond, professional, and was able to help us within a very short deadline. We got a break on weather, and he was able to get the work done in a day. He had some other suggestions about additional work, which on further inspection was needed, so we agreed to it. The scaffolding went up in a flash and his guys did a great job. There was one problem on the job which Paul responded to quickly and with a sincere desire to address. In spite of that issue, which I don't think will happen again, the work was excellent. I would use Paul's Cement again, and recommend them for their quick work and quality.
Description of Work: Repair cracks and recoat all stucco surfaces with "elastomeric" stucco paint. This is a four story home with a front and rear deck on the top floor. Scaffolding was required to coat the stucco on the front wall. Color matching was required.

From start to finish Paul and his workers did an excellent job. This was an insurance claim. The cause of loss: Windstorm. The actual date of the cause of loss was March 2011. I had many contractors give me estimates and they all were trying to get me to file a fraudulent claim with the insurance company to get more money. It took me over a year to find the right contractor for the job and that was Paul. He is the best contractor and does a great job for a very reasonable price. Upon meeting him I immediately was impressed with how personable he was. He knew exactly what to do and that comes from years of experience. This is a family owned business and he has been working in the business since the age of eleven. His sons are also in the business with him. They have been working with their dad since they were very small children. His sons were as professional as their dad. And I noticed that no one took a lunch break. They worked until the job was completed. His sons were extremely knowledgeable and respectful. In a day and age where most kids are lazy and live off their parents it was so refreshing to watch this family work together from start to finish. I must say that Paul instilled in his sons an excellent work ethic. The job he did was amazing. Everyone in the neighborhood was as impressed as I was. People would come up and ask me who did such a great job and of course I told them about Paul. The amazing thing was that they never complained about anything. All of the workers worked together to complete the job and they all got along. I have three young adult sons and if they had a quarter of the work ethic that Paul's sons displayed I would be so proud. His skill level for what he does is amazing. I don't think there is a contractor out there that can come close to the workmanship he and his sons displayed. He also had other workers and they did an equally amazing job. The cement guy was awesome. When I say Paul worked with me that is exactly what I mean. Due to the fact that I had forced placed insurance with my mortgage company they did not send me the monies prior to getting the job started. They wanted to do this ridiculous drawn out process. They wanted to send out the first draw and then do it in thirds. Insurance companies are scam artists. Paul worked with me though. He began the job with no start up money from either myself or the insurance company and the most incredible thing was that he completed the job. That is an anomaly. You will never find any contractor that will begin any job without at least half down. It just does not happen. Paul not only bought all the materials out of his own monies he did all the labor without getting as much as a dollar. And his workers were willing to do all of the job from start to finish and as I write this the insurance company has still not sent out an inspector to inspect the job and give Paul the monies they owe him. They are going to do an inspection very soon and release his monies but the insurance companies will try to hold out as long as possible. I have had to call them daily just to get them to get out to my property and do the inspection so Paul can get paid. I have to send them a self addressed envelope so they can release the check immediately after the inspection is done. My son and I have been fighting with this insurance company to do their part. If the insurance company had half the work ethic that Paul has they would have already released the funds so that Paul and his workers could get paid. For future reference it pays to have your own insurance so that in a situation like this the check is immediately released to the homeowner so the work can get done. The work he did is awesome. It has added a lot of value to my home. Most peoples greatest asset is their home and everything you get done to your home increases the value of your house. A home is the most important investment that anyone will ever make and when something needs to be repaired you must be willing to get the best person for the job. And that would be Paul. He is trustworthy, dependable, and does a great job from start to finish. There are many contractors who will begin a job and get the monies and leave the job half finished. This is why I turned to Angies list. I needed a trustworthy contractor and Paul was the person for the job. I got so discouraged that i would not find a good contractor. All of the contractors I met prior to meeting Paul fell short of what I wanted. My prayers were answered when I met Paul. As a single woman it is extremely difficult to find a reputable contractor. Most people know that contractors take advantage of women. Paul is just the opposite. I can't talk enough about him. If anyone is looking for a contractor to do the type of work that Paul does look no further and give him a call. You will not be disappointed. And remember to get your own insurance all contractors need at least half down to get started. This was a very unique situation so Paul worked with me. In most situations he like other contractors cannot work without a deposit. He is very reasonable and will work with you as to how much he needs to get your work done. I will be forever grateful for the excellent job that Paul has done. It is amazing. I live at 48th and Chestnut in the Walnut Hill section of University City in West Philadelphia. Feel free to pass by and take a look at the amazing job that Paul has done. My house is the second house from the corner of 48th and Chestnut. I am now in the process of looking for a roofer and to have an enclosed porch done. I just pray whoever answers that call is as good as Paul is.

I requested an estimate on a Tuesday. On Friday night the same week, Paul called me to say that his prior appointment had cancelled, and he wanted to start breaking up the old concrete in my driveway the next day, which they did. Cement was poured on Monday and everything completed the same day, in the rain! Paul and his crew did an excellent job and I am very happy with the results. It looks great. There was an issue with my garage door not locking after the cement dried. Unfortunately (and understandably), Hurricane Sandy caused a delay in this getting taken care of. However, Paul eventually addressed the problem, and the garage door is fine now. I would highly recommend this company for cement jobs and I will definitely use them again in the future.

When Paul , Brian and Andrew (owners or Paul's Cement) showed up with their crew , on Tuesday they did immediately put down tarps, so that my house is not getting dirty for the project in the basement, moved items to the middle of the room, tarped everything and then started with the Basement cementing. They were here all day, and you did not even know they were here, fantastic team work, and awesome crew all together, they are clean and nice and very polite and the best team of contractors , I had ever work done, and I dealt with a lot of contractors. The Basement walls look beautiful, you think it is a brand new room, the professionalism and work of this company was impeccable...because of this excellent work, we asked him to give us an estimate to cement my back yard, for a patio space... Paul and his sons, gave me a call the same night, advised me of the cost and gave us a written estimate the next day , they gave us the best prices for cement work and we gave Paul, Brian and Andrew another job..which was to cement the backyard, just like a Patio.. We made arrangements for the project the next day, he showed up with his sons and crew and the project was started....my backyard is not big, but the teamwork was impeccable, they did not get in each others way, fantastic and outstanding job, these men did. Paul's Cement Company, will be my new and only cement work company for me...outstanding and impeccable work ethic, outstanding team, and what Professionalism, you do not find much more around... I just cannot say enough about this company, we are so happy and enjoying our new Basement, and backyard... Thank you again for everything... John and Ursula
Description of Work: I am a new member of Angies list as of October 2012, we were looking for a cement company which can provide an estimate for cementing the 4 walls in my 1948 house Basement. I called Pauls Cement company, got the same day a response from Paul, and we set up an appt....his son could not make it that day called back and set up a new appt. which was the next day. Paul was right on time, a very nice gentleman, and also gave me a price on the project, which we will making sure to set up an appt for him, once I receive the written estimate, and the availability for him... This company was responding to me in a very nice way and timely fashion, and held their promise to get back to me, and the best part is they are right close to my residence.... Thank you again for Angies List Ursula

Paul Sr. and his crew arrived exactly on time. This is a family business with several sons involved. It was a pleasure to see the comradery and sense of humor among them and their workers, aside from the professionalism they exhibited. The job went very well! They cleaned out the old cement area, used an axe to cut tree branches that were obstructing the sides at the fence, laid a 1"x4" board around the perimeter of the new cement pad, and poored the cement they had brought in by truck. Along the side of the house they used water proofing cement to prevent water from seeping into the house at any future date. The final result is perfect! Really! It looks oustanding! I am thrilled with their work and would hire them again in a flash!
Description of Work: An old cemented path along the side of the house and around and under the back porch required replacing. In addition, I chose to have the area past the porch extended out, so that it could be used as a sitting area. The entire area was about 215 sqft. Paul Jr. came by the property 2 weeks earlier for an estimate and evaluation of what needed to be done. The interaction with Paul was easy and to the point. I could see that he had a great deal of knowledge in this business.

The new wall really looks great! They removed all of the loose particles, then filled the holes, and then applied a new coat of cement over the entire area. With their expertise, the job didn't take very long. They explained that it would be about 4 weeks to fully dry. I can see the changes almost daily from the initial yellowish tint to the final white color. I'm very happy with the final product. It's sturdy and looks nice.
Description of Work: A basement wall was crumbling more and more. It was high time to have it re-cemented. I wasn't sure what needed to be done, so I asked Paul Jr. to look at it. He explained that they could easily fix the wall with a particular mix of cement.

We live in a row home in the Fairmount area, and the first job Paul did for us was back in 2004; he put down a sidewalk around the back and side of my house. In short, he did a beautiful job, so we went back to him when it was time to replace the sidewalk in front of our home. Again, Paul did a magnificent job. We didn't want the blinding white concrete you see everywhere these days and opted for adding a reddish-brown dye. As in 2004, it turned out perfectly. How many of you get compliments on your sidewalk? Well, we do. In addition, Paul is very nice guy, honest, and does what he says he will do when he says he will do it. He is the "the" guy we go to for concrete work.
Description of Work: 1) Removed old, raised sidewalk in front of our house.2) Cut back tree roots causing the problem.3) Poured new concrete.

I scheduled an assessment with Paul very quickly, and he provided his estimate within a few days. I was on a tight time schedule and he was able to fit me in quickly. He brought a team of 6-7 guys so he was able to bring up all the old concrete and pour the new patio in the same day. The job looks incredible. I met with him the next day to review the work - he offered to fix some other areas in case my other contractor did not do it. Overall, I thought Paul was very nice, professional, and he did a really nice job.

Went very well. Paul came to my house the same day to give me an estimate, which was a few hundred dollars cheaper than other estimates I had received. He also recommended the colored cement since I was removing brick and didn't want a stark white cement. He said it would get done within the next 2 weeks, due to rain it took a little longer, but he and his team came when promised and finished within 8 hours. They also blocked my curb from being run up on since that tends to happen quite frequently in philly on small streets.
Description of Work: Paul and his team removed my old brick sidewalk that was coming up and replaced it with a colored cement. They removed the brick and poured the cement all in one day (before I got home from work!). It looks beautiful, they did a great job. They even dealt with the unhappy neighbors that didn't appreciate the street being blocked for a few hours. Fast, prompt, and great final product.

.Paul was very friendly and very professional. I live in Chicago but still have my family home in Philadelphia. It is sometimes hard to find good craftsmanship and dependable contractors. He came out when he said he would to give me an estimate and gave me an idea of when he could start the job. The job was actually started earlier for me. Since I was in Chicago Paul kept me updated with the process and status of the work. The finished job that he did was absolutely great. My son was very pleased with the work they did and indicated that for sure he will be using Paul for cement work needed on his home. I am so very very pleased with the job he completed for me.

Paul came out the day after I called, gave an extremely fair price for the work (I don't remember exactly the cost- split it with our neighbor as we're in a twin). He and his crew were prompt, efficient, cleaned up really well, and nice to deal with. I have no idea, really, of the quality of the work, as our house is very tall and I was not going up to check it carefully. The chimney looks good from down below!
Description of Work: Needed chimney repaired before having our roof replacement. Bricks were loose and the overall condition was poor. Paul proposed covering it with cement (which is how it was in the first place) and repairing the chimney cap area.

Paul's team arrived as scheduled to do the job on Monday morning. I went off to work and stopped home at lunchtime to find a crew of about 6 guys including his sons that supervise the work. They had already finished the front patching, set the bollards and poured half the yard. The next day they showed up around the same time to finish the yard and the front sidewalk block. They also set the fence posts. Paul then had a fence installer come a few days later (after the concrete had set) to install the fence and gate. The back yard looks fantastic and the installation is very professional. The front of the house was patchwork, so you can't ask for too much with regards to appearance. The patching was more for the preserving the integrity of the brick. Unfortunately Paul's guy's were a little messing when they were patching the 2nd story window and dropped cement on the porch roof. I didn't notice this until a couple week's after the job was completed. I called Paul to tell him and he said he would come by the next time he was down my way. After a couple week's, and to my surprise, he finally came with a laborer who cleaned my entire porch roof and left it as it was before they did the job. I've never experienced anything like this from a contractor especially after paying them. Very reputable. Overall the experience was great and I would hire Paul again. In fact, he gave me an estimate to concrete my front yard while his guy was cleaning the roof. I would recommend Paul to other people.
Description of Work: Replaced concrete backyard (approx. 15'x15'). Set posts for new chain link fence and gate. Installed (3) steel bollards (posts) to protect fence from cars in alley. Repointed/patched several cracked areas of the brick and stone in front of house. Replaced (1) sidewalk block.

Called Paul on a Friday morning and he came out that same afternoon to look things over and gave me a quote. The work was completed that Monday morning! He had extra cement so a crumbling step was repaired without my even asking. The final bill was exactly what was quoted. I wouldn't hesitate to use Paul on any cement work I need in the future.

They did come out to look at the job with the intent of giving a quote. They did give a rough verbal estimate that day and the understanding was that a formal quote would be coming within a week or two, but nothing ever came and no one ever contacted me again. The date listed above is a guess, as I can no longer remember the date other than it was in the fall sometime.

Paul did work on our house last year and we decided to wait to see how the repairs held up before writing a review. Overall, we were very disappointed with Paul's work. We feel like we were overcharged for an inadequate job and we feel that the urgency of the problem was exaggerated to make a quick sale. At the initial inspection, Paul noticed many hairline cracks and also found hollow areas at eye level and at the chimney area by tapping. Though there was no cement falling off the wall, he warned us that any water that gets in will cause a lot of damage, so he advised us that the work should be done immediately. Paul mentioned that he could apply Thorocoat over the cement, however, when pressed for a quote for Thorocoat, Paul told us that it was merely cosmetic and that his cement would be sufficient. We hired him to start the job the next week. He was very responsive in terms of answering calls and providing written estimates for cement. We were surprised at how quickly the work got done. A year later, we can see similar cracks and hear the hollow areas when the wall is tapped. We feel that this should not be happening so soon after the fix, especially since the weather has not been too harsh. We asked Paul to come by and take a look. He did, and said that there was no problem at all, even though he was looking at the same problem that we hired him to fix. When we asked questions, Paul defended his work in a confrontational manner. We think the reason why we are disappointed with Paul's work is that we disagree on quality. My husband and I believe that a problem should be solved in a comprehensive manner and that covering up symptoms do not eliminate problems. Paul seems to believe that if his work isn't chipping and falling off, then everything is ok.
Description of Work: We were experiencing bulging and hairline cracks on the side of our house and this resulted in interior water damage. We hired Paul to remove the loose and deteriorating cement from our outside wall and to seal the area with waterproof cement.

I noticed that my interior wall on the third floor was indicating water damage, so I called Paul to look at my side wall. He replaced the stucco and did the rear wall also. I then had him do my stucco wainscot at my front door to simulate brownstone. It turned out great and I have not had any leaks since.
Description of Work: Paul's Cement has done several projects for me including a new front sidewalk and most recently new stucco on two walls and a new brownstone-like wainscot at the street front around the entrance door. He is always prompt and courteous and his workers are professional and hard working. I had one callback to correct a little spot and he performed the correction immediately.
