We can not come (do to insurance restrictions) to a customers home to work on a Central Vacuum System. As long as any Central Vac item [including the main motor unit] can be brought into one of our locations Modern can service or replace said item for a greatly reduced price.

Not satisfied with the service at all.
Description of Work: Dropped off my DYSON BALL vac for a tune up. Was p/u 3 weeks later and as I was walking out with it, another customer coming in whispered to me "hold on to your receipt". When I got home I found nothing was done, It was still not cleaned and the beater still did not work. When I returned it the same day, they said it worked when I left with it and it was cleaned. Picked it up 3 days later and it was fixed but not cleaned.Will find another dealer the next time.

It was very nice talking to you and you seemed to be a very reasonable person. This leads me to wonder why you would write such a damaging and inaccurate account of your "indirect" dealings with our company. First, because the repair was brought into us by Linda McDonald we could not find any record with your name, thus my phone call to you. You stated that there were no vacuum shops that would service your Dyson vacuum anywhere near you so it was transported, via a relative, 99 miles to us! With consumers posting reviews like yours you may have to travel 200 miles next time. The vacuum was brought into our store Nov. 24, 2012. Since we always provide a customer with the repair price, and require their agreement prior to doing any work, it was not approved until Nov. 27th. The roller motor was replaced and we performed a general overhaul, tune-up & cleaning. Your machine was repaired on Dec. 1st (we called the phone number on record) but was it was not picked up until Dec. 5th. Unfortunately, your son in law, had to return it the next day because the roller was not turning and was extremely antagonist and yelling that the lights were not working. There are no lights on your Dyson???? ALL OUR SERVICES COMES WITH A WRITTEN UNCONDITIONAL WARRANTY even though we obviously do not manufacture the parts used. Anyway, the mechanic found the roller motor we installed somehow froze and replaced it again. We do test every repair before a customer is called and told their repair is done but "to give you the benefit of the doubt" our staff are human, mistakes are possible and we have no control of the quality of any given manufacturer's parts. The very next day, Dec. 7th, your vacuum was picked up apparently to everyone's satisfaction, exactly 13 DAYS after it was 1st in {not 3 weeks as you state}. Since it took awhile until you got the vacuum back maybe your relatives tried it and [as bagless units are noted for] it got dirty. Modern Vac & Sew Centers has been serving the community since 1950, repair at least 50 machines per week and a Factory Trained & Authorized Service provider for over 10 brands. Our reputation is everything to us and our staff takes pride in trying to provide 100% satisfaction to every customer because their jobs depend on this. Obviously, we encounter some mishaps but with some patience we will always resolve any issue.

Our 2 year old Hoover bagless vac was becoming increasingly difficult to push so I did what most people would do; I pulled out the manual and started going down the checklist ofssible problems to see if I could solve yhe problem. I cleaned all the filters, checked the wheels and brushes, removed the bottom plate and inspected the belts. All seemed to be in working order. I put it back together, correctly, and the problem was still there. It appeared there was a trip to a repair shop in my future. I've used a repair shop in Feasterville in the past, with success. For some idiotic reason, I thought I'd try a shop that was closer. On Wednesday 10/3/12, I took the vac to "Modrern Vac" on Grant Avenue and was greeted by a friendly gentleman, named "G". He said they could check it out and let me know what the problem was the next day. He also told me that the owner, whose name I didn't get, would be doing any necessary repairs and that i would need to pay $29.95 upfront, as a service charge for the initial inspection. He told me this fee would be applied to any repair. I should have left right there because the shop I've used before doesn't charge any upfront fees. It's like getting a contractor in for work and they ask for $$$ before they start...everyone says that's a big red flag and run awayt. But I was a dope. I paid and left the vac. The next day I called and spoke with the owner. That's where the problems began. He started off telling me the tension belt needed to be replaced (no problem, I may have missed a crack) and that it needed a general overhaul including new filters. he told me the filters "were black and obviously hadn't been cleaned in awhile" and that the total cost would be just shy of $100.00. I balked, told him the maintnance i performed and told him to just do the belt. He continued, for a bit, with his hard upsell but finall relented and told me it would be $69.95 (minus what I already paid) for that service. Stupidly, I told him to go ahead. He said it would take a couple of days and he'd call when ready. On the following Wednesday, 10/10, 7 days later, I hadn't heard from him. Calls to the shop resulted in constant busy signals so I decided to take a ride up. Once again when I entered, I was greeted by "G" and told him what was going on. He found my vacuum and it was obvious that it hadn;t been touched since our last conversation. The little shop appears busy but after I gave the OK I don't understand how a simple 10 minute job couldn't have been done in 7 days. It seemed to me the owner was miffed that he wasn't getting more $$$ from me. A brief chat revealed that G couln't touch it and thatI'd have to wait to speak with the owner. I noticed a sign over the checkout counter that said belt replacement $9.95 plus cost of belt. I asked G about the difference in cost and what his boss quoted me and he couldn't explain it. I decided to take my vac, chalk the $29.95 up as a big lesson learned, find the belts elswhere and do the repair myself. There are 2 belts on this vac so I decided to replace them both. I fould a place online where I got both belts for under $10.00, with no other charges or fees. I hope to have them delivered and installed by this Saturday. Never pay upfront for service/repairs like this, if you have a place that's been good to you, stick with them and don't be pressured into buying more than you need. Take my costly lesson and learn from it. I sure did.
Description of Work: Our 2 year old Hoover vacuum was very difficult to push so I took it to these knuckleheads to find out why. I was charged $29.95 upfront as a service fee for them to determine the cause of the problem. This fee would be applied to the cost of any repairs. This exam is all the work performed.

MODERN VAC WAS VERY UNHELPFUL TO ME ON THE PHONE WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THE PROGRESS OF MY VACUUM CLEANER AFTER THREE WEEKS. IT TOOK THEM ALMOST SIX WEEKS TO COMPLETE THE JOB.

Unfortunately, this event happened in June 2004 and our records do not go back that far. It appears that this customer's repair required a unique part that had to be ordered from a manufacturer. Modern Vac orders parts from manufactures, and even distributors {where we pay a higher cost}, daily to obtain items needed for the many repairs we perform. Most of the familiar brands are now owned and manufactured by companies in the orient who stock a much more limited amount of parts here in the US. If we need an item not in their inventory our ability to determine it's manufacture and delivery date is extremely limited. We understand the frustration when this rarely occurs and generally offer said customer a free "loaner" machine. Most people are very understanding of our limitations when this happens but some unjustly, just get irate.
