MGC Landscaping

We've used them for over ten years now. They do our treatments. They cut the lawn all summer and they do the yard clean in the fall. They do a cleanup twice in the fall and then they're done for the winter. We've been using them for 11 or 12 years now.

The wood was a mix of species and was fairly dirty. Was delivered in a full size pickup with a dump-insert. If you are familiar with firewood, you know that a cord is tightly stacked and measures 4'X4'x8'. a full size pickup has a 4' by 8' bed, and the dump insert raises the height to 4 feet, but the lower half is less due to fitting inside the bed and the wheel wells (IE no way a loosely piled pickup delivery can fit a full cord). When the delivery arrive i was leery, but accepted anyway. When i stacked i found that i only had 2/3 of a cord, and there was a wide variety of sizes from 12" to 24"... This inst ideal! So after having to stack the wood twice, once to realize it was too little, and another time by size to get an accurate measure of the wood i did receive, Matt was great in allowing me to come and load up my station wagon with another 1/3 cord of wood. yeah this meant a trip and having to load up the car and clean out the mess, but he did make it right, which i will give him credit for. I just worry for those who aren't checking on the amount of wood they receive- and how they are getting ripped off!

Great communication. Arrived at scheduled time. Helped me stack. Nice guy! Second time I've used them.

1/5/14: Contacted MGC Landscaping through email to ask if they would be able to deliver firewood that Friday. Matt replied right away and stated that it wouldn't be a problem. 1/6/14: Matt emailed a quote of $140 for 1/2 cord of firewood. The email did not indicate a preferred method of payment. 1/10/14: Around noon, an employee of MGC Landscaping arrived at our house and knocked on the door, because we had to clear the driveway. We had people installing a new wood burning stove, and they needed to move their truck. (MGC was supposed to deliver it early in the morning). The MGC employee dumped the wood in our driveway, came to our door, and told us that we owed them $150 for the firewood. We told him that we were quoted $140. He advised us that the price was $140 if we paid with cash, or $150 if we paid with a check. When we questioned this, he told us that the extra $10 was to cover taxes. We gave him $150 check, because his truck was blocking the company that was there to install our wood stove. We didn't want to waste their time by arguing with MGC that: 1. They had lied to us about the cost. There was no mention of a cost difference for cash vs. check until after the wood was dumped. 2. Tax on $140 does not equal $10. We called them about this the same day. Matt told us that the price was $150 and he couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it. We requested that he email a receipt to us, because we didn't get one from the person who delivered the wood. A couple of days later, we emailed him, because we hadn't received the receipt. Matt responded via email, stating that he would put a receipt in the mail. It's two weeks later, and we still have not received a receipt. Upon checking our bank statement online, we found that they had cashed the check at a check cashing agency. This only solidifies our impression of MGC Landscaping as unprofessional and not above board. Besides for these complaints, we were not thrilled with the quality of wood they provided.

Since they delivered too much, we split the difference on the price. The problem was that the quality was relatively poor. Many very short pieces, many pieces did not appear to be seasoned as they were wet and heavy. Seasoned uncovered out in the rain doesn't cut it for me. I will look elsewhere for firewood next time.

I ordered 2 cords, and WISH I HAND NOT!!! Never again! I responded to a posting on Craig's list, but only after checking the rating on Angie's list, which was "A". The Ad: "Quality Wood Preseason Firewood Sale $175/Cord Fully Seasoned - Ready to Burn - Great Wood - No Junk" I told them my stove would fit 18 inch maximum and that 16 was better. They assured me that most was approximately 16" and the wood would not be longer than 18 inches. In fact a considerable amount is well over 18" The add says "well seasoned - Ready to Burn" it does not look or feel like well seasoned wood to me. The AD says "Great Wood - No Junk" Much is less than 10 inches, partially split, or odd shape crotch pieces. This wood is so full of odd pieces it is hard find enough straight pieces to make towers for the ends of stacks. Some is Pine Some wood has fungus Some shows termite or wood boring beetle signs. In conclusion... I am very disappointed! I hired a couple of teenagers to stack it, but they were stymied by the difficulty of stacking odd shaped wood. I am now working hard to stack the odd shaped wood little by little. It is slow work when you must assess each piece for length and carrying an arm-load does not work due to the odd shapes. A pile of the oddest shaped pieces will be on the back of our deck and another pile of the long pieces, over 18 inches, which I guess to be 1/8 cord, I will haul over to a friend's campfire circle somewhere. I tried to contact MGC afterwards, but calls and emails were not returned. I finally reached them by persistently calling and was told "no one has ever complained before"

In October we ordered a 1/2 cord of wood to be delivered and stacked. Since we use our fireplace for heat, we ended up going through the 1/2 cord and ordered another 1/2 in January. Total, it cost about $400 to be delivered and stacked. The wood was of great quality - nice and dry, even the delivery we received midway through the winter. We will use them again next year.

Great service. Very polite. Conscientious. Returned phone call within a couple of hours. He was punctual to the minute (8 am) and accommodating to get wood delivered before his work day. Went out of his way to stack a little extra at the back door before the snow. Cleaned everything up afterward.
