When he came out the first time, he spent most of the time in identifying the problem. He charged $165 for that visit. He also fixed the twin handle at that time. He was a very nice gentleman. He was very sweet. The work was minor, but I would certainly recommend him. I would definitely call him back.
Description of Work: M&D LLC did plumbing work for me, three weeks ago. He fixed a leak and did some minor work needed to connect the refrigerator. He identified the problem that occurred while installing the refrigerator. He also fixed a twin handle.

From start to finish all the work was performed in a professional manner, on time and on budget. John and his crew were fantastic, his efforts exceeded our expectations. Our home is finished and beautiful and John was a big part of it. I highly recommend M&D and will use them in future.
Description of Work: We started a massive home remodel back in January. When it all began, I called several plumbers specialists to give me estimates for relocating the master bath, kitchen, and gas lines. John Donnelly, arrived on time, was polite, knowledgeable and was fair in price. When he began the plumbing work, I discovered he could handle duct/HVAC work as well, so we enlisted him to handle this work as well. M&D LLC also does contracting work, at this point we decided we wanted to finish our basement and add a powder room, again we enlisted John and his crew.

The plumber was easy to reach. He was able to determine that we did not need an emergency visit but he did come the next day. He was on time, friendly and instructive.
Description of Work: A toilet was leaking through the seals in the tank. It was efficiently fixed and we were also instructed on how to do the repair on our own if we cared to.

I highly recommend the company. They removed rotten subfloor and replaced it before installing a Toilet in our top floor. They were absolutely professional and Mr. Donnelly was an absolute gentleman and a consummate professional. His work was outstanding as was his work ethic. He made sure the area was left as it was before he came. This was a vast difference from the National chain which I had the unfortunate experience to first call in.

I contacted them and they told me that they would have somebody call me the next day. I receive a call back the next day that someone will stop by within the next 30 minutes. One of the owners stopped by and he was able to do the work that needed to be done. He did it to my satisfaction. Unfortunately the removal of the detached downspout revealed a bigger problem but at no fault to M&D Plumbing.

They were fine and they did everything in the same day. They came out when they said they would, they worked hard on the drain so they wouldn?t have to tear up the floor, and everything has been good since. It was a little more expensive than I thought it?d be.

*We used them on the recommendation of close friends after another plumber they used botched a job* They replaced the trap on a wednesday (the day my husband works from home) and noticed a tiny leak (a drip a minute)-and that the current stopper couldnt hold water- and recommended we think about replacing the drain as well. They waited until we had a chance to discuss it, and when we decided to go for it, Jim wanted to come back as soon as friday but we could not be there so he came (promptly) on saturday morning. He quickly replaced the drain and made sure everything was in working order, including showing us what he had done. We asked him several questions about the cost to replace shower fixtures, toilet installation, and putting in a full or half bath in the basement where we have a "high throne." He made great, honest product and design recommendations. Most importantly-he was in the basement taking a look at the toilet down there and smelled a gas leak. He immediately ran upstairs to get a wrench to tighen the valve he though was loose and ended up tightening it quite a bit. We never smelled any gas (except when the oven was on-but the oven is a very old Caloric). I was extremely grateful for that catch. He also loved our one cats, which is not terribly important, but it mattered to me.
Description of Work: We used them before to look at a clogged drain we had (ended up there was a BOTTLE CAP in the drain. Our house is 90 years old, so we had them replace the trap and later replace the drain (and drain stopper).

I contacted M&D on a Friday and they were able to come out the very next day on Saturday. The man who came out cleaned my curb trap, which was completely filled with dirt, but the pipe still would not drain. He then attempted to clear the pipe from the curb trap to the house with a hand snake but was not able to clear the clog. I asked him if he could try an electric auger and he said that would be another $385 dollars and is probably not worth it since the line is likely cracked. The plumber informed me that the sidewalk would need to be dug up to get to the pipes. He charged me the $115 even though nothing was resolved and then gave me an estimate of $3800 to excavate the side walk and replace the piping. I contaced another plumber who brought an electric auger and cleared the pipe in 10 minutes. The 2nd plumber said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the pipe. The cost for the 2nd plumber was $125.
Description of Work: My stormwater drain line was clogged. Contacted this plumbing to clean the pipe and curb trap.

Again, this was the greatest contractor experience ever. From start to finish, everything was perfect. 1. M & D was happily able to schedule us for a Saturday!!! I'm surprised not more contractors are willing to do weekend work. 2.We scheduled about two weeks before. Jim called on Friday evening to confirm our appointment for the next morning and to update us to their timeframe. 3.When they arrived I showed them to the basement. Jim helped the second man set up right away and then came up to see what else needed to be done. I gave him a tour of each of our plumbing problems. He was a great listener, and was respectful of what I described to be the problem and of questions that I asked. As a young woman, I can say that this is not always the case. Much appreciated! Jim also quoted their service charge to me (only $90 and hour!!!) and said that the work aside from the water heater would cost only the service charge plus materials. 4. Jim got to work immediately on the tasks at hand, knocking each one out in about a half an hour. Their efficiency was impressive. I didn't feel that they were rushing--even after I added one more thing to the list--and neither did it seem like they were dilly-dallying to charge more. 5. There was one issue ( a leaky sink) that required replacing the whole faucet. Jim suggested that he could do it with a stock faucet from the truck, but that it would take a long time and that it wouldn't necessarily be worth it for a faucet we didn't want. So, he gave us a very complete explaination of how to do it ourselves, seeing as we'd done some work ourselves before. This was extra helpful information, and really did save us money. 6. THE PRICE! Was incredible. Even though he'd quoted us their service rate before, we still imagined we'd end up paying more. When they left, my husband and I were overjoyed both at how well everything was working, and that our money wasn't totally depleted. We'll be customers for life!!!
Description of Work: This was THE BEST experience with a contractor we've ever had. We called M & D primarily because we needed a new water heater, but also had some other smaller plumbing and heating issues that needed to be addressed. Jim was very responsive over the phone and made me feel comfortable enough to explain the smaller issues to him. In addition to installing a new water heater, they installed a toilet, fixed two showers, fixed a sink and installed a new thermo-couple for our gas radiator boiler.

I called Jim McGillian on Saturday morning to let him know that I had heard dripping in the basement when I flushed the toilet or ran my bathroom faucet/shower from the second floor. He said he would get here within the hour, which he did. He was very nice, courteous, professional, and trustworthy. He really put my mind at ease by letting me know that he sees it quite often. He was very thorough in trying to diagnose where the leak was coming from, and made sure that he didn't make a mess in the house. There was a piece of broken piping that drained the bathroom pipes to the main basement pipe. The result was a leakage of anything that came from the bathroom... He covered things with canvas cloth when he needed to and helped me sweep up. He also provided a bucket to collect water from where it was dripping in the basement. They don't work on Sundays, and so I had to endure a day and a half of minimal flushing and showers (!!), but he promised to show up Monday morning around 8:30-9am and said the work will cost about $800. For someone who is a relatively new homeowner to old homes, Jim really sympathized and made constant reassurements about his assessment and prognosis to the problem. Monday morning at 8:30am sharp, Jim shows up with another equally courteous and professional helper. They finish the work with minimal noise and mess within 2 and a half hours. They replaced the pipe, helped clean up the leaky mess in the basement, repatched my wall where they had to cut a hole to reach the pipes, and swept my floors. The total was $760 (5% angie's list discount off the $800 estimate). I don't actually know how this price compares to work like this, and since I thought this was a somewhat emergency/pertinent matter, I paid the price without any complaint. I would definitely hire them again. If I had any complaints at all, it would probably be that I had to wait until Monday morning to get the pipes fixed. But really, it wasn't that bad not flushing for a day and a half or going to the local coffee shop instead.

Cleaning out the pipes from the crawl space was a very uncomfortable position to be in. Price-wise, he was excellent. He gave us a discount for being on Angie's List. He was absolutely on time. He was very honest. He fixed my problem that I called for. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to do more than I asked. My sump pump and dehumidifier were both down there, and they weren't working. I would think that would be a job for a plumber. He didn't have the knowledge of how to fix those issues.
Description of Work: My kitchen sink wasn't draining. My garbage disposal was working, but it wouldn't drain. He had to go into the crawl space and take the pipes apart to clean out a clog.

After getting an estimate from another plumber, we called McGillian & Donnelly. They came out quickly and did a much more thorough investigation into the problem. He determined the that problem was a leak behind the wall, and explained that he wouldn't be able to find the exact location without cutting holes in the wall. He did a great job of not damaging any of the original decorative elements of our 150 year old house. He quickly found the leak and provided a detail estimate of the cost. He explained points of uncertainty along the way and explained how he planned to proceed. After doing the work, he told us that it went better than expected and actually reduced the estimated cost. He brought in drywall repair people and a tile guy to return out bathroom back to it's original state. Mr. Donnelly was very professional and knowledgeable. We will definitely use him for all future plumbing issues.

I called John and he was able to set up a time, within a few days, to come out to see the bathroom. We discussed the problem of the tiles and he suggested a solution that I felt would work great. He e-mailed me a quote a few days later with a reasonable price. He noted he wasn't sure if he would be able to drill holes in the current tiles with his drill, or if he would need to remove several of them to install the bath tub fixtures. I responded by e-mail that I would ask the contractor who installed the tile floor if he would be able to cut the holes with his special drill bits -( completely removing tiles was a last option for me). He would not need to worry about that piece of the job. I also asked him if he could come out again to mark specifically where the holes needed to be drilled for the tile contractor. I e-mailed John several times and never heard back. After several weeks, I decided to call him on the phone. He answered on the first call and said he would be able to come out that evening at 5:30. He never showed up and never called to say he was delayed or needed to reschedule. Not responding to e-mails and not showing up for a scheduled appointment without a phone call is unprofessional and unacceptable. I was very surprised (since I had read some glowing Angies List reports) and very disappointed in the lack of response. I have since found another plumber (from Angies List) who is working out beautifully.
Description of Work: Install a new bathroom sink, toilet, and bath tub fixtures. The current wall tiles above the bath tub (large glass tiles that were installed when the house was build 75 years ago) were not being replaced so a plan needed to be discussed to preserve as much as possible

Everything went very smoothly. The job took over five hours, so I think the price was more than reasonable. The only glitch was that it took several days for him to get back to me after I received his quote, leaving me a little unsure of whether he'd actually do the work. (I can't tell you how many times contractors have come to my house and put together quotes, and then, after all that trouble, disappeared.) But otherwise he was totally responsive and punctual and was a pleasure to work with. I was prepared to have the garbage disposal and the whole toilet flush mechanism replaced, too, since I wasn't sure they were fully functional, but he told me it wouldn't be necessary. Now, *that's* honest workmanship.
Description of Work: Mr. Donnelly replaced all the pipes underneath my kitchen sink, which were leaking in multiple places, as well as the sink and faucet, which had problems of their own. Then he gave me a new toilet flush valve.

Although I initially contacted him for plumbing, I soon found that he could take on just about any home-repair or remodeling task. Everything was done with quality, and at a reasonable price. I called and Mr. Donnelly came out on the same day to look at the roof. He had to come back when the roofer was there because they had placed a temporary cover on the roof and he didn't want to disturb it. I was very pleased with how quickly the repair was done and how easy it was to get in contact with Mr. Donnelly.

John did a beautiful job and I really appreciate his honest approach. Several times he said not to pay him to do something and explained how we could do it ourselves to save money. He is always available via phone and/or email and always picks up the phone! I appreciate the care he took with our newly refinished floors as he layed down drop cloths throughout the house, even in areas he wasn't working in but traveled through. When there was a slight problem with how the tiles were laid out, he and his worker stayed after hours to fix the problem. We are very happy with how the job was done and he was very pleasant to deal with.
Description of Work: John did a beautiful job renovating our bathroom from the floor up including new pipes, new subfloor, tile floors, wainscoting and new sink with new fixtures and a shower installed on our clawfoot tub. I had to turn off the water service at the meter and the valve started leaking badly. I thought I would need the entire valve replaced, which would have necessitated turning off the water supply at the street. I called the company and set an appointment for later that day. Mr. Donnelly arrived at the agreed upon time and within 10 minutes had repaired the valve (without having to shut off the water). He charged me a nominal fee for the work! (much, much less than most plumbers would charge for a house visit).
