I would highly encourage those in the market for baby orchildren's furniture to AVOID KARL?S. The primary salesperson, Adam, misleads customers about delivery dates and is largely unresponsive when asked to return calls. While the Romina baby furniture we purchased is beautiful and high quality (also expensive), our issues with Karl's and Adam in particular involve the following: When we purchased our furniture on 4/25/2015, our promised delivery date was between 8-12 weeks. This should have had our furniture delivered on July 17 at the latest. We were comfortable with this, as our baby's due date was August 13. When the calendar turned to July, I phoned Adam to inquire as to the status of the order/delivery. He informed us that it had been pushed back to no later than July 29. While we were not particularly happy with this (and a bit worried about getting close to the baby's due date), we certainly understood the logistics of delivery and the potential for a delay. As July 29 approached, I phoned Adam on multiple occasions. He failed to return any of my calls. My wife also phoned Adam at least twice during the same time period. Adam failed to return any of her calls. When I finally got a hold of Adam (he just so happened to pick up the phone in the store when I called), he stated to me that he had spoken with my wife recently about an August 3 delivery date. This was entirely untrue, as my wife had never spoken with Adam (as he never returned her calls). Adam then informed me that the furniture would be delivered on August 14, nearly 1 month past the latest originally quoted due date. At this point, I was honestly expecting that Adam would do something to placate our frustrations. Without trying to be greedy, my thinking was that he could give us a decent discount (Karl's offers something like $500 off of furniture orders if your baby is born on certain, "magic", due dates, so they can certainly afford to do this). Adam offered nothing. As August 14 approached, I phoned Adam again, as, unfortunately, I did not trust him at this point and wanted to be sure he would actually stick to the August 14 date. Incidentally, our son was born on August 4, so the furniture delivery easily missed his birth. During this conversation, I suggested that the least Adam could do would be to refund the $70 delivery fee, which was slightly more than 1% of the sale price, so not much of a discount. We were also, and I think rightfully so, appalled that we had to be the ones to make the suggestion. While Adam did agree to waive the small delivery fee, the damage to his reputation as an honorable businessperson had already been done. Fortunately, our furniture was finally delivered on August 13 (yes, it actually came a day early, if it's even fair to use the word "early"). I would sum up our experience with Karl's this way: The furniture, although expensive, is beautiful and well made (you get what you pay for); Adam and Karl's: - Misleads customers about delivery dates over and over and over; - Fails to respond to requests for call backs over and over and over; - Are untruthful regarding communication between spouses; - Do little to nothing to offer any meaningful compensation for their inept performance. If you want a high-end brand like Romina, certainly buy it if you can afford it. JUST DON?T BUY IT FROM KARL?S.
Description of Work: We purchased baby furniture (crib, dresser, bookcase, nightstand) from Karl's, who also arranged delivery of the items to our home.

We had ordered furniture from Karl's in the past and had had a great experience, so we thought nothing of ordering a bed from Karl's for our 2-year-old, who was ready to move out of his crib. We wanted a bed that was made by Vermont Tubbs. We ordered the bed in July 2010 and were told it would take 12-16 weeks for delivery, which was expected. About a week later Karl's called to say that it would take a little longer. By January we hadn't heard anything so I called and started the longest, most ridiculous drama imaginable. First of all, the majority of the time when I call the store no one answers the phone. Sometimes I get an answering machine and sometimes the phone rings indefinitely. If I leave a message it never gets returned. So to reach someone I have to repeatedly call the store until someone actually answers. The people who answer the phone are unable to help with furniture orders, only Brad and Adam deal with that. But Brad and Adam almost never return the messages I leave with the store employees. So I have to keep calling back until either Brad or Adam are actually in. After a lot of this phone nonsense and a trip to the store I was told the bed would be delivered in March. March came and went. Then I was told it would be done by April 15. Then April 25. Then we had a delivery date scheduled in May. I called a couple days before and was assured the bed would be there as scheduled. It was not. I got this promise 4 times before a bed actually came. But it was the wrong bed. We were promised the correct bed would be made and delivered in 1-3 weeks. It came 6 weeks later--a year after our initial order. In fairness to Karl's, I confirmed with another furniture store that Vermont Tubbs was having delivery problems and was taking as long as 6 months to deliver orders. However, Karl's was not honest with us about why it took a year to get our bed. By calling Vermont Tubbs I learned that even though we placed our order with Karl's in July 2010, Karl's did not place our order with Vermont Tubbs until October 2010, 3 months later. Once the bed was finished, Vermont Tubbs held the bed for payment (i.e. Karl's hadn't yet paid the manufacturer for the bed even though we had given Karl's a deposit.) I also spoke to a representative from the trucking company who was delivering the bed from Vermont Tubbs to Karl's who more or less implied that they had held the bed for a while because Karl's hadn't yet paid them. I learned all this by calling Vermont Tubbs--Karl's just made excuses and said they were doing things that they weren't doing. I realize that Karl's can't help if the furniture manufacturer is taking a long time, but I would have been a lot happier with the whole experience if someone from the store was easily reachable and if the store was honest with us about what was going on. I could quickly and easily get information from Vermont Tubbs, but trying to get something out of Karl's was like pulling teeth. The discount they gave on our order for our trouble was appreciated, but it was too little too late to make us a repeat customer.
Description of Work: We ordered a Vermont Tubbs brand twin bed in July 2010.
