Hearth & Stove

This company posts on its storefront, ads, and internet site that it's open on Saturdays. In the last month, I have been there three times, all well before the Saturday closing time, to come upon a closed store. Parking in that part of Philly is nearly non-existent on the street. I had to park 5 blocks away and walk (thank goodness I was prepared w/comfy shoes, a warm coat, hat and gloves). While I hope the company is still in business, it appears as though it is not. What a time-waster.

We'd been trying to figure out the problem with our Home Depot purchased gas log unit for almost a year. These guys came out and recognized the issue right away. They were extremely professional, knowledgable, and honest. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. I also know where I will be buying my next quality gas log unit.

Highest price quote, but the guys did the work in one day as promised. I found a mess left in the basement, though, and the cap leaked. Follow up service left damage that hasn't been fixed, and repeated requests for information have gone unanswered. Disappointed.

They're actualy pretty good. They did it all in one day. They did a pretty decent job. I was satisfied with that.

I initially called Hearth & Stove about replacing or fixing a gas fireplace in my home which is broken. The person on the phone was very helpful in telling me how to obtain the information on the existing unit (the brand, the model number, etc). I took pictures of the label in the old unit and went directly to the store. I went to the store sometime in September and spoke with Robert, who talked to me about a few different options to replace the unit. It's an old unit, which probably needed updating anyway, so I was happy to go with a replacement rather than fixing it. He presented me with two options that would fit the current space and the general pricing. He tried to upsell the higher priced one, but was fine when I said I would think about it and call back with my decision. Everything was fine up until that point. Two days later, I called and spoke to Robert again. He remembered me, but couldn't remember what prices he had quoted me for the unit I wanted to get. I told him what he had quoted me (I had taken notes at the store and wrote it down). He said he would have to call me back to confirm the price. I gave him my cell phone number. Around a week later, he called and left a message. When I called him back a few days later, I again spoke to Robert. He claimed that he had tried to call me several times (he only called once) and at that point couldn't remember the question he had for me. He asked me if he had asked a question in his voicemail. I told him that he did not, he just left a message to call him. He asked if I could come into the store at that moment. I said I was unable to go to the store. So he again told me he would have to call me back. I spoke to him on Wednesday October 15. He asked when he could call again, and we arranged that he would call me on Friday morning, the 17th of October. He assured me he would call. I was a little hesitant at that point to even go forward with Hearth & Stove, given the lack of professionalism. But if he had called me when he said he would, I would have gone forward with the work. But of course he did not call and I have not heard anything since. I would have given the entire experience an F, but they were initially helpful, so I gave them a D instead.

I had a Vermont Castings Montpelier wood burning fireplace insert installed in my rowhome. The owner, Dan, came out to my home and gave me a quote. I ended up needing a new chimney flue installed to accommodate the stove. Dan gave me a decent prince, and his employees did an excellent job with the installation. When I had questions about the stove's operation, I called H&S and spoke with Dan. I now burn two cords each winter, and the stove now heats up the whole house. Very satisfied.

They were able to give me a next day appointment, came on time and cleaned the unit adequately. I was happy with their service and will use them again.

Dan responded to my email query very promptly, scheduling the appointment was easy, and the service work was fantastic. Dan showed up on time as scheduled, was very friendly, professional, and happy to answer all of my questions. He actually charged lower than the initially quoted cost for the work done, which really speaks to H&S' honesty and professionalism. Overall, I couldn't have been happier with the service!

The staff, from the office manager Rob to the owner Dan and his 2 colleagues effected a prompt inspection, resolution plan and reasonable estimate for their work. They executed the project promptly and efficiently. They even added color pigment to the concrete to match the existing color of my deck at no additional cost and cleaned up like they were never there! Their professionalism and knowledge of my job and toward me was commensurate. Most of all.... NO LEAKING! I would recommend them in a heart beat!

I received an email from the provider for a "Fall Chimney Cleaning & Repair Special!" so I called to schedule my fall chimney cleaning. I was surprised when I was told they do not service my area, when they serviced my previous house in the same neighborhood last fall. Anyway after some discussion about my exact location the rep told me they can service my area and we proceeded with scheduling the chimney sweep. Finally after all the scheduling details were taken care of I was told price would be $175! I reminded the rep I received an email about the, "$99 Fall Chimney Cleaning & Repair Special!" his reply was, "I can't come that far for $99". I then replied there was no service area limitations listed on the email I received and immediately cancelled my appointment.

They came, spent 30 minutes checking out our chimney and cleaning it, and left. Nothing more, nothing less.

Guy that came out was also very clean considering how much was cleaned out of our chimney.

Service was great. They went above and beyond to make sure that the stove would be installed before Christmas. The stove looks and works great. We are very happy.

I was very pleased with Hearth and Stove. The men who came to my house were very nice, helpful and professional. They walked me through the dos and don'ts of using the fireplace, and they even taught me how to light a fire. They found one potential problem with the fireplace and were very patient explaining why it was an issue and the timeframe in which we should get it handled. I would definitely use them again for any chimney needs.

The owner (!) of the company made the service call as promised. Extremely helpful with other suggestions regarding the log. Charged less than a regular service call.

The gas service to the house had been shut off and "Red Tagged" and could not be restored until the work was completed. Hearth & Stove did the required work with a sence of urgency so that the gas service could be restored. The technicians were friendly, informative and professional. Our gas utility company was satisfied with the work Hearth & Stove performed and the gas service was restored. I would highly recommend this company.

After the service call, the chimney still leaked, so I attempted to reach Hearth & Stove a number of times, but they wouldn't return my call or respond to my e-mails.

Based on the reviews here, I called up Hearth & Stove to ask about a chimney cap and installing a gas insert. I called two weeks ago. No response. So I followed up last week -- again, no response. I understand folks get busy or emergencies come up, but we're now into the third week and I never received a return call.

I emailed Hearth and Stove over the weekend and received a return call on the next business day. Represntative I spoke with was professional and very helpful. I received an appt the same day. They arrived on time and was very friendly, step by step details of what he was doing and why. I would definately use this company again.

I waited a week for a quote by email, which was not too bad. However, the quote was pretty high. I replied and asked for a better price. I received no reply and emailed again two weeks later. Its now over a month and they still have not gotten back to me. Grrr.

Everything went well with with the chimney's installation, but the plasterer still needs to return and make some finishing touches. We have been unable to get him to return to make them.

We called and made an appointment for him to service our gas fireplace. Over the phone, he seemed knowledgeable and willing to provide us with the service we needed. He gave us a two-hour window in which he would arrive. On the day of the appointment, we waited between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM for him to come, but by 3:05 PM, he did not come or call to tell us that he would be delayed. We called him at 3:15 PM and left a message, asking him to call us back to re-schedule. We never received a return phone call. On the basis of his no-show and failure to return our phone call to explain what happened, we would not recommend him.

Excellent. Technician was professional, service provided was perfect.

They were excellent, helpful, on time, very tidy, answered all my questions, were very professional and friendly. I highly recommend this company.

Came on time, did the job, then gave us a few tips on how to build & maintain better fires in our wood stove.
