Funchal's Painting

Nilton Funchal and his crew were very professional, punctual, and easy to reach. They kept every appointment that was made and work was performed in a timely manner. Along the way they did a great job making sure that we were happy with the quality work. Him and his crew were always very courteous and friendly to deal with. The price was well worth it for the amount of work they did. We will definitely use them again and would recommend them highly.

I ended up not using the service because they were not in my area, but they were professional when I dealt with them.

Painted living room and kitchen. plus the ceilings. The living room had built in book cases which they also did.

It was great. It was just the wall, he didn't do the woodwork but he did quite a bit. He did a very nice job. He was very neat and thorough. He was very pleasant to deal with. I hardly even knew he was here. I didn't think he would be able to do three rooms in one day but he did and he did a very nice job because he was by himself. It was a very reasonable price. He had mats and everything and he cleaned up thoroughly. It was a very good experience. It was a good deal. We had been emailing back and forth and I just hadn't checked my emails for a couple of days and he didn't have my phone number so he drove by to make sure everything was still on so I thought that was nice. He went the extra mile.

They told me I am outside of there service area, to please contact Angie's list regarding a refund.

They did an excellent job, they were very professional, and they were the best I have ever used. They were on time and worked straight through until they got the job done.

We had a little mix up on the days that the work would be done, but the work was done very well and the door looks great! Thank you!

This project did not flow from the very beginning. First contacted Funchal for use of $99.00 coupon to strip off bathroom wall paper. There were conflict problems scheduling this service. On day of wallpaper stripping made a deal with Funchal to paint approximately four rooms in the house with some wall repair work. Funchal gave me an estimate and later sent a contract for $1,100 to do the labor work and I would pay for all the Benjamin Moore paint myself (about $200.) I thought this was very reasonable. There were more scheduling problems to begin the project. Funchal said he was busy in NYC during the week and could do the work on the weekend. He showed up promptly on a Saturday morning with two workers. One of the workers was good, the other seemed to be picked up as a "day worker" to help out. They worked for two full days and still were not finished. During this time I asked that two hallways that flowed from the main room also be painted. One hallway was very small the other average size. For this add-on work, I agreed to pay another $300. The owner/painter came back on Tuesday to finish the job and clean-up the mistakes of the "day worker" in the bathroom. I was then presented with a bill for $1,700. This was $600 more than the original contract and $300 more than the adjusted contract for the add-ons. This was the first time this amount was mentioned and I never agreed to it. I like to think I am a fair person and we settled on a payment of $1,500. This was $100 more than I agreed on in the past. After Funchal was paid, my wife and I discovered that the baseboard panels were not painted, one of the three wall sconces we have was not working, a switch plate outlet was not replaced, and the glass globes for the wall sconces were not replaced. In addition, some of the walls were nicely painted with the walls sanded and two coats applied. Other walls were not sanded and any blemishes on the walls were just painted over. This left a bumpy look. It was more like an apartment being painted by a building superintendent. The owner/painter agreed to come back and clean-up the job but wanted another $100 to do it. He did come back and fixed the bumpy walls and painted the baseboards, but the sconce is still out and I had to put the sconce globes back up myself. So, I wound up paying $1600 plus the cost of the paint total with a lot of aggrevation. The owner admitted to me he underpriced the job and tried to do it fast on a weekend with cheap labor. I would not use this provider again.

He did a good job! He gave me an estimate for the exterior of my house, and that was very good, too! I am waiting for him to come back and do that job.

We did not hire this contractor. This post is a heads up. We have four other quotes on this job - all for both interior AND exterior including all materials $18,000-$24,500. Despite being asked for a flat rate quote, Funchal's estimate was $25/hr. for 6 men plus materials. That sounds like a very good hourly rate and could be tempting. However, when we asked for a flat rate, the quote was Interior between 45 and 60 days, Monday Thru Saturday, $57.600,00 PLUS Exterior between 15 and 20 days, Monday thru Saturday, $24,000.00 PLUS materials. Something is very wrong here. When we responded with the range of quotes already received (noting that they fell within the range predicted by our architect $20,000) the response was "Thank you for the opportunity."

Arrived promptly and worked very professional for 2 days.

It went great. There were no problems or issues and I was very happy with the work.

The quality was very good, he was on time, and he worked very quickly.

When we had not yet contacted Funchal's after we purchased the deals, Neiva took the initiative to contact us to arrange the appointment. We had to reschedule a few times but the communication was good via phone and email. Nilton arrived on time and got right to work. He was patient with my 5 year-old daughter who stood out of the way but wanted to watch him work. Once he got the wallpaper off, he showed us an otherwise unknown hole in one wall and he patched it up at no additional charge. When entering/exiting the house, he was careful to not let our dog scoot out the door. He finished all of the work on one Saturday.

Nilton and Neiva were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They both were very communicative and prompt in replying to phone calls, scheduling the estimate and the workday. Nilton came one evening to look at the work and promptly sent it to me an estimate the next day. He was accommodating of our schedule, scheduled a day quickly, and completed the work in the time he set. He and his assistant were prompt, did a very professional job, and cleaned up completely after themselves. We literally did not have to do ANY cleanup, it was very remarkable. I also have to say the price was more than reasonable. He even used some of his own paint when I didn't have enough of the right kind for the doors. Both Nilton and Neiva are just lovely and easy to work with, I recommend them highly.

From the very first contact, all was professional. Calls were returned, texts sent back and forth to confirm dates and times, and all work was done meticulously and in a professional manner. Care was shown to my home and clean up was done as well.

Nilton is professional and pleasant to work with. He answers emails nearly immediately and was very flexible with my changes to the schedule. The painting was done well without drips, nice straight lines on the edges, no paint drops on the floors. I'm happy with the quality of the work and plan to use his services in the future.

We first purchased and Angie's List Big Deal for wallpaper removal from Funchal's Painting and they were great at getting in touch with me (and staying in touch with me when I kept postponing the work date). They always answered emails promptly, and I appreciated being able to communicate that way. When Nilton first came out, he did a thorough job of removing the wallpaper from a bathroom. We then hired him to come back another day and prep and paint the bathroom walls and all trim. He did an excellent job. Very reasonably priced, and a professional job - we will use Funchal's again!

I think it went well. He removed the wallpaper in very little time. He did another small job of painting and replacing some spindles in the hallway to complete the four hours of work promised. We talked about doing some bigger jobs in the future. It was a very positive experience.

NILTON AND NEIVA WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO SERVICE US. DUE TO MEDICAL REASONS I HAD TO POSTPONE TWICE, AND THEY WERE MORE THAN ACCOMMODATING ABOUT IT. NILTON FINISHED HIS TASKS (MOVING ITEMS, SOME SPACKLE WORK, AND COMPLETE AND TOTAL CLEAN UP,) IN A DECENT TIME, AND I AM SERIOUS WHEN I TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE FANTASTIC, AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO EACH AND EVERY ONE WHO ASKS ME ABOUT THEM.

I contacted Funchal?s painting and they said they were working on a large job and could not do my job for a month. They later contacted me and told me to pick any Saturday in February for my work to be done, which I did. They got back to me a week later saying they do not service my area and to get my refund from Angie?s List. Overall I had a very bad experience, they had my address from the first contact but did not tell me till a few weeks later that they do not service area. I would recommend Angie's List do not recommend them any longer .

EVERYTHING WENT WELL. MR. FUNCHAL ARRIVED ON TIMES, COMPLETED THE PROJECT ON THE SAME DAY AND ON TIME. AND, WHEN HE FINISHED, HE DID SUCH A GOOD CLEAN UP JOB THAT NO SHRED OF PAPER OR ANY DEBRIS REMAINED. GREAT, GREAT WORK.
