The staff at Family & Friends from the office to the carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, painters, and tile installers all have a passion for this business. Our company has been fortunate through the years to build honest and lasting relationships in this business. Our prices are very competitive and fair. In this economy we try and give the homeowner the most for their dollar buy extending our vendor discounts to them as well as informing them of building trade auctions they can attend. Our office is available Monday through Friday to answer any and all concerns customers have during the renovation project, in additional to the owner Bill being available for the same. So let Family and Friends make your dream renovation become a reality and you will be glad you did.
It went fantastic. We were pleased that we chose them, our house looks great and we can definitely tell why everyone in our neighborhood uses them. Their work was excellent, followed through on everything and were very clean. When they left the job was 100% complete and we were 100% satisified. 6 months later we had an issue with the dishwasher, they promptly came and fixed both that issue and another issue we didn't realized we had and even the owner came out himself to do the work.
Description of Work: Totally remodeled our kitchen and retiled our bathroom floors.

Hired Family and Friends Builders to gut and renovate the bathroom. Overall they did a fantastic job, however there were some small problems along the way. We schedule the start date over 5 weeks in advance then they had to push back another week only a couple days before it was supposed to start. However, once work began it was efficient and fast. We paid for the tile, vanity and finishes and they provided the bathtub and toilet. Billy had some great ideas for design including installing a heated floor which we love! There was some trouble finding parts to fix the skylight, but in the end everything worked out great and we would definitely hire them again.

Joe the mason came out to do the estimate and was also one of the guys doing the job, which i appreciate. They actually started a day earlier than planned, after calling to see if that was ok. So they put up the scaffolding on a Friday and started the job on Saturday. Weather prevented them from working on Sunday, but they didn't actual come back to finish the job until the following saturday. Overall they did a good job, and left my house and sidewalk clean when they left.

We were very impressed with Family & Friends right from the start. The owner Billy came out to our property to provide an estimate right away. He was very knowledgable and had some great ideas for the remodel of our kitchen. We found the pricing to be very reasonable and the quality of work that was completed was well worth the money we spent! We love our new kitchen and would definitely recommend Family & Friends to any one looking for a quality contractor.

They showed up on time and were responsive but when I looked at it I realized that the paint on the pointing is different than the color of the house. They didn’t do what I had asked and you want any repair to be uniform with the house.

I was very nervous about getting my kitchen remodeled. This company put all my worries and concerns to rest. I was well informed as to the whole process of my renovation for start to completion. They were very helpful in all phases. They over exceeded my expections. I am in love with my new kitchen and looking forward to showing it off to family this Thanksgiving. I would highly recommend this company to all my family and friends. I have also hired them for a future project in the spring to have a new deck put on my house. All of the carpenters were kind, courteous and extremely professional. I am so happy I hired with Family & Friends and look forward to my new deck.
Description of Work: Removed existing kitchen - gutted entire kitchen. Sheetrocked, painted walls. Ran new electric lines and added recess lighting. Installed new kitchen cabinets and all new appliances. Ceramic tiled floor and backsplash.

Our experience with Family and Friends Builders was the best we've ever had with a construction company. We needed to replace a roof deck on our house in Center City, Philadelphia, because the pressure the original deck placed on the roof caused leaks into our bedroom. To fix the leaks, the original deck had been removed, and a different company previously put down a new roof (which solved the leak). I wanted to find a way to replace the deck without simply recreating the leak problem. I interviewed several companies, but was most impressed (by far) with Billy from F&FB. He really LISTENED to my concerns, and after explaining that he could minimize the risk, but not eliminate it, he suggested I talk to an architect with whom he works, Marc Pinard. I did, and Marc came up with a brilliant and novel design, whereby the new deck would be suspended ABOVE the roof, and anchored to the cement caps running along the top of the walls of our house. Suspending the deck removes any fear of new leaks that could arise from the deck resting directly on the roof. Marc drew up the plans, got approval form the City (no small feat), and then F&FB built it. Everyone I talked to at F&FB was helpful, polite, professional, and friendly. They also dealt with getting approval from the City, and the crew showed up exactly on time, worked their butts off, and left our house spotless each day. It was especially gratifying to see how much pride they take in their work, and I think they were as excited about building this novel design as we were about having a new deck. The final product is gorgeous, and their workmanship is absolutely first-rate. Given the complexity of the job, and the quality of both the materials and the workmanship, I feel the price was absolutely reasonable. They were also excellent about returning phone calls, or contacting me with questions or updates. The whole experience was a real pleasure. If we ever need any construction work done again, I will make precisely one phone call - to F&FB, and I will recommend them to any friends who need work done. They are the best.

They replaced a main beam and worked on the trim. They had good price and were very knowledgeable. They were easy to work with.
Description of Work: They did repair work on my front porch.
I used family and Friends to do a total gut job on a house that I planned to sell. From start to finish my experience with them was way beyond satisfactory. Billy, the GC and owner not only personally oversaw the entire job with incredible attention to detail, he also has a great sense of vision and knew just what finishes would work to make the property outstanding. The jobsite was always kept clean and the crew was polite. The office staff was great at keeping me posted on progress. Their level of professionalism is something I hadn't experienced before in this business. The work was competed within the time frame that was originally discussed.Everyone who's seen the property has been impressed with the quality of the work but nothing tells the story better than a signed agreement of sale for asking price within a 2 weeks of listing!I really can't recommend Family and Friends highly enough!

We were very impressed with the work that Family and Friends did and we felt that the price was very fair. Billy helped us figure out a plan that worked for the space and modified the contract when needed. Once work began, the team was very professional and took the time to do the job right. We felt comfortable having them in our home, even at times when we weren't around. For the few things that weren't’t done exactly the way we had hoped, they took the time to fix them as soon as we pointed them out. When it was time for the final payment, all the receipts and costs were emailed to us in an organized fashion. All the work was completed in a very timely fashion as well. They even have a year-long warranty on the work. Overall, we would recommend Friends and Family and will use them again if we have plans for another renovation.
Description of Work: We needed a general renovation of a back room in our home, which involved switching a very small bathroom and oversized (and in need of repair) laundry room. This required full plumbing and electric work, including relocating pipes for a radiator upstairs. They did all the finish work as well, including trim, paint, and hanging bathroom fixtures.

It took them a long time to do the job, and they never came back for clean up. He never put the steps that he removed back. They also didn't remove all the dirt that they were supposed to. The color of the cement doesn't match my steps.
Description of Work: I used them a couple months ago.
The "service date"/contact date is estimated. After the attitude I got, I wrote them off before I hung up.
Description of Work: I was searching for someone to replace flooring & baseboards, etc in 2 rooms in my home. One of those rooms also required insulation & drywall for not even half of one of the walls. That room also needed to be painted because of the drywall repair. I read the information and reviews about this company - they supposedly serve Gloucester County, New Jersey. When I called, I was asked a few questions and then was conveniently told that I lived too far away - what I needed done wasn't worth it for them to come to my home! The woman said she'd double-check and call me back within 24 hours. I never heard from them!

I am sorry that I could not accomodate this customers needs for an estimate but we are fortunate that our company has been able to concentrate on the Philadelphia area for 90 % of our work. We rarely travel to New Jersey. Clearly this customer was very upset that I would not travel the distance to her home and was not happy with the outcome of the conversation . We are not rude or unprofessional when we indicate this to perspective clients.. The location of the work is established before I even ask about the work needed to be done , in this case I did not inquire about the work because it is out of our servicing area. Our apologies.

Well I contacted them originally in the begining of October for a complete repair job of my home, including roofing, sheet rock, new door, painting, even some plumbing work. I wanted one company to do all the work listed, and they informed me that they do not do roofing work anymore. I understood and looked for another company. I called again to get the other work done after I got my roof repaired by a different company, gave them a list of the things I needed to get done and that I needed an estimate, which they said they provided for free, in order to get the grant money from FEMA to finish the job. I was informed by the woman that called me back, that the owner does not like dealing with FEMA or any other government organizations because of the "red Tape" that came with dealing with them. I explained that they would not have to do any paperwork other than the written free estimate so that I could fax that in. I was then informed that "the estimate would cost me $100. And that once I employed them, I would get a $100 off of the price of the work done." That is not free. I politely said "thank you very much", and hung up the phone. I will NOT be working with these people again.

In response to the member's comments is is true that we do not wish to do work where payment comes from goverment agencies, such as , FEMA. We apologise that he is disatisfied with our company policies, however we do have a right to decide if we want to work with agencies that take weeks, even months to collect payment. We have tried and sadly it becomes extremely frustrating to deal with these agencies, their payment centers, their staff etc. The member had expressed to me that he had already contacted another contractor that did gave him a bid to do his work but would not put specific verbage on the written estimate. I found this to sound odd and I felt uneasy because I have many times accomodated my customers with my professional opinion in writing as to causes of damage for particular work. In response to the comment about our estimates , what I told the member is that a verbal estimate is of no cost to the customer, however if a customer needs a estimate in writing there is a fee of $ 100.00. As any business person knows time is money. This fee covers our time to meet with you , go over extensively the work you want done, accurately reasearch the cost of products and materials for your work, and quote a fair and honest price. We then will provide to you a professional copy on our letterhead and mail, fax, e-mail or accomodate you however we can in getting the written estimate where it needs to be. If you then hire us for the work we wrote the estimate for $ 100.00 will be deducted from the quote once it is turned into a contract. We are sorry that this customer does not agree with our company policies but wish him the best of luck with his project.

I will only use this company for my home repair needs and have already referred them to friends. Their estimate was better priced and included more service than others we received. They did a large punch list for us including building a custom gate, int & ext painting, drywall repair, basement wall repair/waterproofing and concrete tear out & pour of pad/sidewalk. They were prompt and all the guys were friendly, professional and respectful of our home. The office kept us updated on when their team was to arrive daily. As an example of their service, we had the concrete pad on our steps and entire sidewalk replaced. The pad was done first and we noticed it looked rough but did not make a fuss. When the owner of the concrete co. came to inspect and pour the sidewalk he decided he also did not like the quality of the work done on the pad. He tore it out and repoured it himself same day. The concrete looks perfect and fresh. All the work was done on time and with care. This is a company you can trust to get the job done...and done right!

Overall, ffb took the fear out of tearing out a room and making another. I had complete confidence that if something didn't seem to work out as planned it would be fixed calmly and professionally. This was a much better and easier process than I had anticipated and I whole heartedly recommend them.
Description of Work: Too bad the previous writer didn't meet the contractor over his lunch time- I think he would have had a great deck by now. Everyone I've met or talked with at this company has been pleasant, helpful and able to answer questions and get me onfo almost immediately. When things didn't go exactly as planned they went the extra step to resolve difficulties. They were extremely patient and with one who zilch re making a new bathroom and explained what needed to be done and how any why clearly and with good humor. They accomodated my choices and when I overestimated what I myself could, they stepped in and finished up. It seems that since they are concerned about their own family and friends , they are also considerate if those with whom they work. It was a pleasure to have the workers in my home and they took great care not to track in dirt and they were fastidious in cleaning up every day. I was informed as to when workers would be here and they arrived as planned and there was always some one in the office to answer any questions or concerns.

Dos: call someone else Don't: waste your time calling this company
Description of Work: Wow… big letdown. My wife and I are planning to add a pretty large deck to our house. I called around to a bunch of different places and I explained that I work all day so if they could meet me any time after 6 or so, that would be the greatest. When I spoke to the woman from this company, she asked if anyone was available during the day. I told her that my wife and I both work. She said that they only schedule visits for estimates during normal business hours. So let me get this straight… I’m about to possibly spend anywhere from $13,000 - $20,000 on a new deck with your company and you can’t work with me to set up a time to do an estimate because it’s after “work hours”? What more if I had a problem with the deck once it was installed? Would you not entertain my questions/concerns if it were after business hours? Every other company that I called had no problems working with me on our schedule. They were even shocked when I mentioned that this company(I didn’t give them the name) wouldn’t meet with us after 6. They agreed and said most of their estimates are done during this time. If I can’t get them to work with me on something this simple, imagine how hard it would be when it came time to do work or any follow up. I’ll pass….

Response from Family & Friends Builders
I am the office manager and the woman who this gentleman spoke to concerning getting an estimate with our company. In response to his comments he failed to mention that I did apologize and explain in great detail why our company policies are what they are. We are a small family owned and operated business who give all of our customers very professional, and personable service. The owner of the company is the only one who looks at new work, we do not have have salesman deal with our customers. My son, the owner , is the father of six children, family is very important to us and to him and he insists on being able to spend time with his wife and children in the evenings. We realize that our hours of operation do , at times become difficult for some customers however we feel that it is a small price to pay for the excellent , professional , honest experience you will have with our company. Communication has never been an issue either, in this age of technology we converse with our customers on cell phones, e-mails, faxes and text messages. We are also happy to speak to our customers in the evenings if need be. If you look at my 30 plus reports in my Angie List profile they speak volumes about our company. In any business it is that business' decision to set their own policies , we once again do apologize that in this particular case we could not accommodate this gentleman's schedule and he could not accommodate ours. . We do wish him best of luck with his project and with any future endeavors.

Family and Friends Builders did a great job on our kitchen this past May. We updated the kitchen of our Northeast Philly row home from its 1970?s look to a lovely modern design, and with Billy Marnoch and team?s help, we couldn?t be happier. It took F&FB about a month. Someone was working at our house every business day, and at the end of each day we came home to find it pretty clean and orderly. I was impressed with the respect they showed us in this way. In fact, when they knew we were having house guests for Memorial Day weekend, they went out of their way to get the sink and dishwasher ready in time ? greatly appreciated. Biggest challenge: as a project manager myself, I hoped that someone at F&FB would be more assertive in telling us what to do when ? when to buy appliances, make decision on a countertop ? in order to move at the most efficient speed toward completion. Basically, to shepherd us through. It was interesting to work out two different project management styles: theirs and mine. But we managed and got done quickly enough, and satisfactorily. I would recommend Family and Friends Builders to my own family and friends. Oh, and don?t forget the coupon they offer on Angie?s List!

Mother's kitchen had pink stove and other 70's looking features when she purchased it. The laundry was a stack unit in the kitchen that we moved to an area outside the bathroom. The electrical was upgraded, all new cabinets, flooring, etc. installed. Created pass through to open up kitchen to main living area. This was in a large studio condominium in a building with a lot of fussy older people. We did not get one complaint from management or other residents. Everything went smoothly. I had previously had FFB do my bathroom and open up the top of the stairwell in my townhome and they since did my mother's bathroom and also corrected a serious structural issue for my neighbors that was created by the developer that renovated their home prior to moving in. I am hoping to have FFB do my kitchen in the next 12 months. They are very good contractors. Probably not your cheapest bid but they do things properly and you will not have problems going forward with their work.
Description of Work: Kitchen & Laundry Remodel, same footprint, all new high-end appliances purchased through FFB for additional $6,400.
