Family & Friends Builders is a family owned and operated business located in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. We have been in business since 1998 providing all aspects of home remodeling. Our goal is customer satisfaction. We take pride in our work and it shows. The staff at Family & Friends from the office to the carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, painters,and tile installers all have a passion for this business. Our company has been fortunate through the years to build honest and lasting relationships in this business. Our prices are very competitive and fair. In this economy we try and give the homeowner the most for their dollar buy extending our vendor discounts to them as well as informing them of building trade auctions they can attend. Our office is available Monday through Friday to answer any and all concerns customers have during the renovation project, in additional to the owner Bill being available for the same. Description of Work: I was given ample notice to provide materials that I was responsible for (i.e. kitchen faucet, ceiling fan, new microwave, etc.) I highly recommend Family and Friends Builders, and I will most definitely use them for other projects that I want to accomplish in my home in the future.

Description of Work: Called for an estimate to remodel my bathroom on September 21. Since the my call was never returned, I called today and was told they are backed up and are not looking for new business, however, they would put me on a waiting list. I declined.

I would like to respond to this negative report by first saying that there is a possibility that a phone call may not have been retunted to this prospective customer. However, our office is opened with staff available 45 hours per week. due to the high volume of calls we recieve a call may have slipped by us, but this customer was able to call back and speak to our office within days of the first call. We do excellent work as you can see by our 48 + reports, so we are ocasionally booked up with work that prevents us from taking on new work. My 15 years of experience in this industry has taught me that when customers call for estimates , 90 % of these people want to start their projects soon after the estimate. When our work is booked up 10 to 12 weeks in advance most people do not want to wait this lenght of time to move forward. In light of this I advise the customer to go on my call back list . This way I do not hold up people from getting started with their projects, but also they have the option to either wait for my return call or check back with me at their convenience. This is a policy that Family & Friends adheres to and we do apologise if we cannot meet the needs of everyone when they call. We do our best to accomodate all that request our services. We wish this customer good luck with his project.

. I wanted to respond to some of the comments made in regard to the time-line that is referred to in her response. We do excellent work and it is absolutly true that in some cases our customers do wait 2 weeks for an appointment for the estimate. We met with Ms.Franks on 10/6/2011. We called the member back on 10-18-2011 with the quote for the work she wanted done. This work was very extensive, including a kitchen compete, bathroom complete all rooms thoughout the house complete.. In light of the amount of work to be quoted we insist on being accurate in our quote. This takes time to get the accurate pricing completed. We apologise that we could not get back as quickly as the customer would have have wanted , but we did notify her of the reason we took the time we did so we could give fair and accurate pricing for the large amount of work she wanted done. We wish the member good luck with her project.

Response from Family & Friends Builders
I am the office manager at Family & Friends. I was very surprised to see this report in our profile. I would like to state that for the record the Friedman's did not spend $ 10,000 for their work and we did not renovate a kitchen for them. The truth is that $ 7600.00 was spent and the renovation was a full bathroom , and only a ceiling repair in the kitchen. The ceiling repair was caused by us while working with the pipes in the bathroom. At our expense we repaired the ceiling and the plumbing leak. We also repaired several minor gas leaks they had in their basement , free of charge because of the inconvience. This work is stated on their Invoice # 1484. I do regret that the communication process was strained due to the fact that both Mr. & Mrs. Freidman are both school teachers and never allowed us a way to contact them throughout the work day ,normal hours of operation being 8:00 AM to 3:30 pm.. However , we did make every attempt to contact them in the evening and address any concerns they had in the evening hours. I also have on file a completion certificate that our customers are required to sign saying that they are COMPLETLY SATISFIED WITH THE WORK. This form was indeed signed by Michael Friedman. I am quite puzzled as to why this is the first time I have heard any complaint ., not to mention that we completed this job on 9-25-2008. I am not sure why it takes one year to become dissatified with someones work. I notice also that we were given bad grades in the report but no reasons for them. Family & Friends stands behind their work . I am in the office 50 hours a week to address any issues our customers are having at any time. i wish I would have know that this customer was not happy a year ago when the job was done. Family & Friends treated these customers as we treat all customers , with respect, honestly and professionalism. Contracting is not an exact science, it is a process. We feel that we guided the Friedmans through the process in a very honest and professional manner. We take pride in our work and it shows in all of our other reports. If we did offend the Friedman's we do apologise. This is absolutely something we were never made aware of. I would be happly to send a copy of both the contract and the completion certificate to Angie's List to collaborate the facts in this matter.

Company never returned my e-mail.
Description of Work: This company never returned my e-mail. I requested that someone contact me concerning an estimate to remodel our kitchen. I was surprised that no one contacted me. I requested a return call or e-mail on 4/30/08 and it is now 5/19/08, more than enough time to respond.

We have a small kitchen, however every wall was a mess with plaster gone due to age, so the guys had to start from scratch. Either there was ten layers of wall paper, awful paneling, or no plaster at all. They cleaned it up by reframing, insulating with fiber glass and drywalling it all so the rehab could start with a clean slate. Those walls didn't look that good new 90 years ago! They took my ideas of what I wanted (open shelves rather than upper cabinets) and made it happen. I had a great feeling of circuity about it turning out great and it did. Thank you!!

This is one of the most detailed oriented and professional companies I have ever dealt with. They are very punctual and don t mind returning over and over again until the customer is one hundred percent satisfied that the work they did was perfectly acceptable.
Description of Work: They completely gutted our living room turning and turned it into a very large kitchen. They also gutted the kitchen and turned into a 2 closet pantry. We purchased most of the materials ourselves, so they only charged us for the labor and the basic items like drywall, paint, etc. It took them just under two months to complete the job. Included in the installation was a laminate floor, all the plumbing work for a kitchen sink, and many cabinets and drawers. They also shortened and re set 2 windows and two doors. The cabinets although purchased by us had to be customized to fit. They also completely installed all the outlets and electricity for the kitchen and the pantry, and completed all the plumbing. The price we show is the total amount they charged plus the cost of all the materials that we purchased separately.
