Angie?s list doesn?t have any companies like this listed and I thought I should add this one. Right now, in Maryland, the power utility has been deregulated and there are many door to door sales men trying to get people to sign up with one power supplier or another. I looked up this company (after being pressured into signing up at my doorstep) and the bad reviews are numerous; there is even currently a class action law suit out against them. The sales pitch was great 7.8 cents per kilo watt hour (while pepco is going to 9c per kwh at the moment) you also get cash back (or airline miles) after 12 months. I ask the door sales man ?what?s the catch?? and he assured me that there is no contract, no cancellation fee, and I can leave at any time. I was skeptical and called the company to confirm all of this and grill them about the bad reviews. From what I can gather it seems like a good deal but I was surprised to find out that my 7.8 cents/kwh is only good for 3 months after that it is a month to month variable rate (which could be higher than the rate at pepco). Most of the reviews I read seemed to confirm my surprise as many of them only had an introductory rate of one month; after which their rate skyrocketed. The door pitch made it seem that I would have one year of this rate but after some digging I found the ?catch? that comes along with any door to door sale. For now I will go along with their introductory rate but I think I will cancel because I don?t want to have to call this company every month to find out what the next month rate will be. So beware of this because they can set any rate without informing you and when the bill comes you won?t be able to dispute it. I gave them a D in professionalism for the door to door sale and making this fact, not hidden, but hard to find. However, the person at the company I talked to was very helpful and even called me as soon as my information came up in the system at the exact time I said I would be available; which impressed me. Overall this seems like a good company so they get a B; It would be A if I could get this rate for 12 months. If anything crazy happens I will be sure to update my review.
