Description of Work: Electrical Wizardry, Inc. rewired the dining room in our 18th century historical house in Mt. Airy. They installed the new chandelier, dimmable lighting, base-board heating, AC outlets and a new breaker-box.

+ 0 moreEverything went very smoothly. The quoted estimate was pretty spot on as well as the projected time it would take to get the job done. I never felt I needed to be on-site everyday. John was very professional along with his staff. John answered all of my questions in a very timely manner. He was very concerned about the electrical safety and integrity of his workmanship. I did not require clean up at the end of each day, but once all the work was completed they did an excellent job cleaning up. I highly recommend this provider for any electric needs. Especially if you have an older home. John has experience when it comes to older homes with knob/tube wiring and dealing with plaster/lathe walls. He made minimal cuts into the walls and floors and only did so out of necessity. Very little wall patching needed.
Description of Work: The house we just bought had knob/tube wiring so the whole house needed to be re-wired. The provider re-wired the entire house (approx 1300-1400 sq ft) hung new ceiling fans and light fixtures

They showed up on time. They knew it was a difficult job and got right to it. They were very conscientious and represented their company well. Their price wasn't too high or too low, it was good.

I know they have done good work for my friends. They have a thoughtful and educational approach and they are good at problem solving. After we walked through the house he took a look and he gave me an estimate. I felt like it was based on our conversation and that he had taken in what I was hoping to accomplish. He provided me information that I could use to make good decisions. He also was prompt in replying to communication.

The person who came to do the initial estimate communicated with the technicians in advance, so the technicians showed up prepared and with a thorough understanding of the work that needed to be done. They put drop cloths down on the work site and cleaned up after themselves when the job was finished. Excellent customer service. I will definitely hire again!!!

+ -1 moreIt went very well. It was a very big job with many complexities and challenges in replacing ancient wiring and the crew of 4 had their hands full for 5 days straight. I have used EW before and while not cheap, I was looking more for peace of mind, quality, trust and attention to detail over getting a deal. The issue was the safety of my home and family and I am fully confident EW did the best possible work. We have also used them for smaller jobs, perhaps 4 times over all, and each time they did great work.
Description of Work: Major rewire and other work such as installing lights, switches, fans, timers and 200 amp.

+ 0 moreWe have used John and his crew on many projects for many years and wouldn't think of using anyone else. He is a wizard, knows what is safest and best, also provides options. Checks and double checks the work. If something doesn't come out right, he comes back to check it promptly. His prices may be a little higher than some others, but he is a perfectionist and that's what we want in our electrical. He also gave us very valuable advice on how to deal with the FIOS installation and he helped us avoid some potential problems because the FIOS installers want to do what is quickest and easiest, not necessarily what is best.
Description of Work: Jobs done for us on many projects over 15 years: upgraded overall electric for house; put in outdoor outlets; put electrical in a room, bathroom and closet we built including pocket lights, dimmers, closet fluorescents, bathroom fixtures, ceiling fans; put in new electrical in our home office renovation.

+ -1 moreThe upgrade to 200 amp service went fine; there was a problem with an outlet in the garage that did not go well and I'm not sure why.
Description of Work: We were upgrading our electrical panel to 200 amp service and doing some other work like making an outlet in the garage hot. Two folks came to do the work but John, the owner, was not there. The panel install went fine but there was a problem in the garage; when John came to give us an estimate he told us that the outlet in the garage was just disconnected, or something like that, but that if was connected it would work ok. But when the other electrician arrived he wanted to pull new wiring. My husband told him what John had said but it didn't go over too well, I think, it seemed to me the implication was that my husband didn't want to pull wires because he was being cheap but we were just going on what we had been told previously. Sure enough when the helper went to work in the garage the outlet did not work as expected; it turns off and on with the light switch that is in the room and does not supply power continuously. Not sure who made the mistake, the misunderstanding, or whatever it was but it doesn't work the way we wanted or expected it to. I didn't complain because I'm not really sure what happened or who made a mistake if anyone did.

+ -1 moreThe work was completed on January 25, 2007. He did not do what I asked, as far as, pulling the wires instead he put holes in the walls. Now I have to have the whole ceiling and room repainted. The current remodelers that I have remodeling my kitchen have found that the wiring was done incorrectly. The problem was the box was overloaded and contained extra wires not connected to anything, making the work not up to code. The ground was not connected and it could have possibly shocked someone. Also, the price was above what it should have been.
Description of Work: He was to install a fan and rewire the dining room fan to the wall switch.
