Day one:They arrived at noon and began to scrape.The contact called for washing before painting. The young man took my garden hose (I had the nozzle off) and using his finger was spraying the water at the front door and the fragile leaded glass windows in the front entrance. Water was pouring in all over our hardwood floors. I yelled for them to stop and then had to clean up the mess myself. Then to my surprise they were repeating this at the side entrance, again with water flooding in over hardwood floors. Mr. Mattia acted like it was my fault! They finished after a few hours leaving a mess of paint chips at each entrance. When I asked about cleaning up I was told that they would clean up when the job was finished. I tried to reason with him like I would have with my own sons, but it was clear he was not listening to me. Day two: Hoping things would go better I took a deep breath. They arrived late morning but left again and returned to start work just before noon. I soon realized that Mr. Mattia was painting the outside doors. (There was a lot of other painting to be done) The doors have no storm doors and the outside temperature was close to 100 that day and the humidity was clearly high. I had told his helper that I had checked and it was 80%. We had to leave those doors open until late at night and still they are ruined, as well as the weatherstripping around the door. Again there was a mess of paint chips. There was a great deal of paint on the glass of the doors, paint on the porch floor and paint residue on the brick patio where they had washed out their brushes.Again I tried a motherly talk, again I got nowhere.. It began raining shortly after they left and rain was predicted for the next day. I told Mr. Mattia to call us before he came back. When he did not call us for two days we called and told him we did not want him to finish the job.We have had a contractor evaluate the work and he was appalled. . It will now cost us to repair the damage they caused and even more to have the work redone.They have since sent us a threatening letter saying we owe them over $1300 dollars more because they finished 75% of the work. The contractor who evaluated it considered it roughly 30% done. We were willing at first to let them walk away with the deposit, but now we are getting letters from a lawyer threatening us. . They arrived with just a half of an extension ladder and a step ladder and so they could not possibly even get to all the areas and the white paint that they did use on the little bit of painting they did looks grey.. We are over 60 and one of us is disabled. They contend that they would finish the work and make good, but after giving them a second chance once we do not want them working here again.
