Dunbar Painting

We were very impressed and satisfied with the workmanship, professionalism, and punctuality from beginning to end. From ceilings to walls to trimwork to mouldings, all work was expertly done. I'd highly recommend Dunbar painting to all, and have already scheduled Kris for some additional work in a few months.

Fantastic! Kris was super responsive as soon as I reached out and provided a very acceptable quote right away after seeing photos of the space and knowing measurements. He was even helpful in suggesting paints! He arrived promptly at 7:30am and worked very diligently all day. We thought 2 coats would be enough but you could faintly see the lines from when I painted test colors on one wall so Kris actually did 3 coats for no additional charge. I could not be happier with the outcome of his hard work! Our first floor looks perfect! We will absolutely hire Kris again in the future to paint our stairwell after we are finished moving things in and probably other rooms upstairs as well. I definitely recommend him!

Kris was punctual each day, arriving by 7, and finished the job ahead of schedule.

He seemed nice over the phone and I liked his perfectionist attitude of doing the work himself to insure a good job. He came over to my home and gave me an estimate the same day. I agreed to the proposal, and was flexible with his hectic schedule. Unfortunately, things got weird. He texted me on a Tuesday telling me he could do the work on Thursday and Friday. I did not see the text until the next day, but responded as quickly as possible, saying that would work for me. He had originally estimated that he would be able to do the work the following week, so I was pleased that he could do it earlier. Within my response, I mentioned I wanted to make one small change with one of the colors, which he thought wasn't a good idea. I told him I appreciated his opinion and would consider it. Two hours later he asked me if he could come on Tuesday and Wednesday instead. I asked him if something had come up and that I didn't mind, but would prefer sooner than later. He said that nothing came up and he would be there at 745am. I also had decided to stick with the idea, although he advised against it. What followed was a convoluted text exchange about undercoats and overcoats of paint, and in his opinion it didn't matter what the color of the undercoat is because all I would see is the topcoat. Here's the thing, I've been a painter (art) for over 20 years. I know how color works. I even tested the colors to see what the results would be. His attitude was disrespectful and rude, but I'm a pretty tolerant person so I didn't make a big deal about it. Two hours after that, he texted me that he was withdrawing his bid. I was in the middle of preparing for him to do the work the next day! He wouldn't even respond when I asked him if there was a reason. Not only do I find this behavior unprofessional, but also childish! I've seen his work in photos. He does good work; but my experience with him was very strange and uncomfortable.

work was organized, thorough and careful. paint application was excellent and attention of detail was very good.

Kris is a great painter. He is meticulous. In addition, he is very tidy. At the end of every day, he had all of his materials cleaned up. I would never consider using a different painter.

Kris did a wonderful job patching over the holes. He very thoughtful and precise about it. Then he expertly painted the house very quickly. You cannot tell there were ever repairs done to the walls. He was very communicative about what he was doing and finished ahead of schedule. Overall, we are extremely pleased.

Kris was neat, smart, punctual and focused on quality. He spent five days straight making sure everything was perfect and my unit now looks like a completely different space. Kris was very courteous and professional from the first call. He arranged a time to do an estimate within a few days and showed up on time and carefully evaluated the job from room to room. He provided a detailed estimate within a couple days and also gave a date for when he could start, which was a few weeks away. He started exactly when he said he would and worked continuously for the rest of the job. He showed up every day but even if he hadn't he strikes me as the type who would be careful to notify you if he wasn't going to come one day. He is very trustworthy and I was always confident he was being careful with the house, locking up, etc. He got a lot done every day, yet there was never any dust or other paint-related mess when I got home. He was also very accommodating about paint selection because I needed to avoid oil-based paint and VOCs. He sent an email most days just updating me on the status of things and asking questions and bringing up helpful considerations. As for the results, the walls and woodwork turned out gorgeous, like new again, despite being almost 100 years old. The results were especially astounding in the room that had serious plaster damage--there was no trace when he was done. Even my little vanity project (the metallic band), which required a really detailed eye, turned out amazing. I am hiring him again soon to sand down the main staircase and paint the risers and stain the treads, and possibly for some exterior painting. So, I highly recommend him!

Kris is terrific. He responded quickly to my initial request and made a date to stop by and evaluate the job. The estimate arrived soon after and was quite reasonable. My schedule was flexible and so waiting for Kris was no problem. It was well worth the wait! Kris is honest, experienced, thorough, and easy to work with. I am really pleased with the painting.

They cleaned up after work everyday and their price was within budget but the quality of their craftsmanship is really good. It's hard to find a good plasterer these days. The older gentleman really seemed to have everything together as far as setting up the job, keeping the place neat, and not trapping dirt into the house. They did an excellent job!

I CANNOT say enough about Kris. His attention to detail and his care for his work is impeccable. He even asked my neighbors if jt was okay that he covered their plants while he was painting, in order to protect them. He went the extra mile. The only (and I'm reaching here) downfall is that he IS his business, so you have to be patient. But trust me, its absolutely worth the wait. Fantastic work in both ethic, accommodation and execution.

His work is amazing. He has excellent workmanship and we thought his price was reasonable. We’ve had a lot of work done over the years having moved a lot and he surprised us by how good he was. His work was above average. We have recommended him to others.

Before providing his proposal, Kris did a thorough examination of the existing conditions, listened to our concerns, and made suggestions on methods and materials. He was much more thorough than the other painters we talked to. Kris did an excellent job preparing the surfaces which included patching and repair of some areas of rotted wood. We requested some additional prep work beyond what we had originally discussed, and his extra charge for it was more than fair. The quality of his painting work is excellent. He even included sanding/painting of the metal railing even though we never discussed it - he just thought it should be part of the job. He was forced to work around daily weather uncertainties, and always called to discuss his proposed schedule. He always made the right call regarding the weather. We are renovating the entire house, and I will say that working with Kris was easily the most positive experience we've had with any contractor so far. Kris does all of the work himself. He is professional, dependable, honest, considerate, and flexible. If we should have more painting work, we wouldn't even talk to anyone else - we would just hire Kris. (For anyone wondering who is painting the interior, the answer is: me.)
