 + 0 moreThe contractor vanished after receiving several payments. Dan (the powner) left me with a shell of a project. He put up 3 walls, plywood roof and started incorrectly applied siding before disappearing with my money
Description of Work: Hired Dan to gut my deck and box the deck into a year round room back in October of 2011. As of May 2012, the project is still not completed and disappearing Dan is a no show. He made many promises to complete the project but never lived up to them. I am now in the process of doing the job myself. Only recall two days where Dan put full days in on the job. Always seemed to vanish when it came time for the bigger parts of the project were due to be started. One day he dropped off two workers who spent the whole day at the worksite and I couldn't figure out what they accomplished. I promptly called Dan and asked about it and after the 6 ring or so, he seemed puzzled also after reviewing their work. Biug mistake on my part to hire this guy. Beware.

 + -1 moreAs I stated above his work was good. It was his unresponsiveness, his inconsideration of others' time that p***** me off. He never came when he stated he would be at the property. He told me on the first couple of days into the work that he was going to be at my home at 7AM the next morning. He did not arrive until almost 11:30, and this was not the first nor the last time he left me waiting. He never calls to let you know he is running late. If you reach him he tells he is around the corner and takes another hour or so to arrive. One day I wasted the whole day waiting. He finally arrived around 12:30, stayed an hour, made some excuse and off he went. How can a contractor, who supposedly wants to work, continuously have a full voicemail? I let him know if he tried that again, it was bye-bye. Well, that is what I did today, fired him. If you are a person whose time is not valuable and want some one to do good work, Dan is your man; but if you are like the rest of us who want some one who does an excellent job AND there on time, look for someone else. PLEEEEEEEZE.
Description of Work: Unbelievable. I just fired him this morning via text, because I was not able to reach the contractor by telephone (his voice mail was full...again) It took him almost 2 weeks to complete a privacy wall in the patio. There was an existing wall there already. It was half concrete and half wood. He build it with 2x4s first, then covered it with some plywood; layered it with some black tarp (?) and added a wire mesh. Then began the covering with concrete. I give him credit, the work was good. He had one helper the first day and the rest of the time he did it on his own. He was to strip the paint from the bricks on the porch. He "treated" it with some chemical peel; but the peel away sheets are still there. He stated what he used was not suitable (ya think?). He was going to rebuild the ledge of the porch...untouched. In the basement, he got as far as putting mesh and a coat of masonry cement to a water damaged wall. That was the first phase of the contract. I contracted him to do some interior work as well; but that will never happen.
