He was supposed to show up at 9am to do the work and he called at 8:45am saying he could not come until the following Monday. He worked for only 2.5hrs on Monday and 3hrs on Tuesday. He said he would finish the job on Friday which I thought was unacceptable. He did a terrible a job and missed a lot of spots on the walls. He actually called back said I owed him an additional $100 because he used more paint than he originally thought he would use. I had called him multiple times and left voicemails about what time he was going to come back and refinish the work. He finally called back and started yelling at me and was being totally unprofessional. I can't believe a business owner would talk to a customer in the manner that he had. I reported him to our local consumer protection service and they said I would need to write him a letter explaining everything and to state what desired solution I would want. However, he never did pick up the letter. I would stay away from this individual and his work.
Description of Work: I hired him to paint my living room, dining room, hallway, and bathroom.

Response from Color The World Contracting
The member appears to have some of the facts a little confused. When she first accepted my proposal I told her that as soon as I received her deposit check I would be able to lock in the date she requested. The member’s response was that she would mail it out immediately. After waiting for three weeks I called the member to inquire about deposit. Her only response was, “I forgot”. At this timer I reminded her that the date had not been secured as a result of not receiving the check. I also told her at that time I would do the best I could to keep her desired date but I could not promise to do so. I finally received the payment 3 days later. The member asked me how long I thought the job would take. I told her two to three weeks. On the first day (when the member said I worked only 2.5 hours) please not that 2 men at that time frame equals 5 man hours. After preparing walls in hallway and bath. I compiled a shopping list of materials for the following day. Spending three hours at the stores doing this equals eleven man hours for the day. The following day my helper and I spent six hours applying paint to bathroom stairwell and hallway. This is considerably longer than the member remembers. (six man hours x 2 = 12) Also to be considered – from my location to the member’s home there is no straight route and traffic patterns are unpredictable. Also Home Depot locations (where I buy my paint) are difficult adding up to time lost and labor costs. The bathroom ceiling ( after being scraped, spackled, sanded, primed, and painted) began to bubble in areas. This became an ongoing problem with the rest of the job. This caused me to bring in a third party, (a thirty year veteran paperhanger and painter) who confirmed my suspicions that wallpaper glue residues were reaming on many of the ceilings and walls throughout. When I mentioned this to the member she had no recollection of any wallpaper ever being there. At this point I did the only thing I could do. I rescraped the bathroom ceiling, primed it with oil based sealer, respackled, sanded again, and applied 2 more coats of paint. We also applied a third coat of paint throughout the hallway and stairwell. As the job progressed this became an ongoing theme, this brought about additional paint and labor costs. Let me also point out that the particular paint we were using is rated number one in Consumer Reports – Behr Ultra Premium Plus. When I mentioned to the member that we had exceeded the cost allotment for paint, she refused to pay for any more and did not recall our original agreement that she would do just that. It is clearly stated that the costs were approximately $260.00 dollars. I have receipts for over $400.00 in paint alone. I would also like to mention that I passed along my 20 percent Hope Depot discount and never charged anything extra for my labor. As far as the member’s frustration with reaching me, calling me fourteen times and leaving nasty messages on the Fourth of July (which I have the records to prove) while I was spending time with my family and friends, is not exactly me ignoring her. When I called back after the holiday she yelled at me and she said there were a few places that needed another coat. I told her I could be there on the next day (Friday), Saturday or Monday. She refused all three and insisted on Sunday. I told her I had a previous commitment that I could not change and I would call back Monday to schedule another time convenient for both of us. She was extremely displeased with this and hung up. Over the next week I made several attempts to contact her without success. What else was I to do? In the end I would like to say that my helpers and are prepexed by this whole matter. On the day of completion the member seemed to be happy about the job and even invited a friend over who asked me for my card. I also would like to mention that this friend is the sister of two my SATISFIED customers. I did not hear anything from her for two weeks. Why did it take her so long? I honestly feel that no matter what I do she will never be satisfied and I suspect that perhaps I am not the first contractor to experience this with her…
