We will not be using Chestnut Hill Windows. It appears their volume is such that they cannot take new business and/or simply do not care to follow up for customers who are ready to write a check...oh well, after reading these other review, it seems to be a trend.
Description of Work: I contacted David to give us an estimate on six windows that need to be restored in a home we were in the process of buying. He spent nearly 4 hours at our home going over every detail of windows and discussing the unique historical architecture of our soon to me home. David would not give us a written quote until we were officially the owners of the property...understandable. Two weeks after closing on the home I contacted him again and requested a formal quote. after a number of back and forth communications in which he promised to provide the quote by the next day....I have still not received the quote. I have given up on using the provider. I have no doubt of david's tremendous passion for historical restoration and quality work. This said, his company falls FAR short of being a professionally run organization. I am now back to square one and looking for new window restoration companies.

During the estimate process the owner was extremely professional and knowledgeable - it was very clear that he knows windows and window restoration. The team came and extracted the windows within a week of the original timeframe stated in the contract. Unfortunately the date that the windows were supposed to be reinstalled came and went and I gave the company an extra week to contact me with a new timeline for reinstallation given that I know timelines can shift slightly. We made an appointment for the date I was told the company would be ready to reinstall the windows and I took the day off from work. The crew never showed. I explained to the owner that I was not pleased given that I had recently started a new job and couldn't continue to take time off from work for them to reinstall the windows. We made another appointment for a Saturday so I rearranged my schedule to be home for the installation. On Saturday morning the time of the appoint came and went and no crew showed. I phoned the owner who informed me that his crew was running late and gave me a later time that morning. That was followed by a text that said an hour later, and that cycle continued until at 1:00 pm when I was told they wouldn't be able to make it. it took me another three-plus weeks and much aggrivation to finally get the windows installed. In the end they owner and his crew tried to make things right by working evenings and long days but unfortunately they had already damaged their reputation with me. Ultimately the windows looked really good and I'm glad I had the work done, but to this day - 3 months later - I'm still trying to get Chestnut Hill Windows back to weather strip the windows to close 1/8 -1/4 inch gaps that remained on the sides of about 30% of the windows and to repair one of the windows that won't stay open. Knowledge-wise Chestnut Hill is a good company, but operationally they need improvement. I would consider using them again but I would require a far more detailed contract with written performance measures that the company would need to meet in order to receive full payment.
Description of Work: I hired Chestnut Hill windows to extract, restore and reinstall 100 year old windows in two rooms of my home - totalling 12 windows (24 sashes).

I had to have the glass replaced in 9 of my windows. The job was sloppy and lacked quality. Owner insisted that I needed new window jams. I did not want him to replace them, but he kept insisting so I finally gave in and he replaced the window jams. The top of the double hung windows have not stayed up since. He has tried to fix them but the jams are junk and he refused to put to the old ones back in. Fall of 2009 he took the old jams and was going to recondition them and reinstall them. In April 2010 the owner/inventor of Bi-Glass came and "tuned-up" the sashes and jams, the old jams were not referbished and reinstalled . Two months later when I checked the windows, almost all of them had slid down from the top again about 2". Mr Mansfield indicated he would check with the owner/inventor in June when I contacted him. I have not heard back in spite of monthly contacts. I now have double hung windows that the top sash does not stay all the way up. I have now been dealing with this for 2 years and I am tired of it. 4/7/2011 - please let me know what those solutions are. The last time we spoke, ~ 12/7/10, CHW was investigating a few other options. I have not heard back since and I did try to contact CHW via email on 3/15 and email and phone on 4/4. Still no response.

Response from Chestnut Hill Windows
The member is one of our few unhappy clients; we did not convert her windows to Bi-Glass (R); and the manufacturer of the jambliner system has been completely unresponsive to her needs. We have offered alternative solutions, but they do not suit her wishes.
