I had stopped going to them for a while because I suspected that the owner had a substance abuse problem. Either I was wrong, or he got over it. He’s moved since then. At one point, he would come over to my house to pick up clocks to be fixed, which was really convenient. It was a long time ago, but when he worked on my clocks, they were fine. His prices were reasonable for the time, not too expensive, considering they were antique clocks. One of the clocks was German, from 1875. The other clock is also probably 100 years old at this point. They both wind up to run for seven or eight days. They have chimes, and all that good stuff. I’m always looking for values and bargains. I had no problem with the clocks that he serviced. But the one time I had taken him some of my elderly step-mother’s watches, he called to tell me that his store had been broken into and the watches were gone. I have no idea whether the story was true or not, but that’s the reason I stopped taking my clocks to him, even though he did a fine job on my antique clocks. Nothing he did was wrong. They came back in good working order. One of the clocks I messed up while rewinding, but that wasn’t his fault, so I would give him a very high rating. I don’t remember him ever putting me off for weeks at a time, or anything like that. One of the clocks he repaired I haven’t even put back up on the wall, and it’s been a long time now. I’ve had problems with the mantle clock since I started taking it to the other place. It needs to be worked on, and I will take it back to Tony. I will go back to him, because I don’t have many choices in Philadelphia. I recently got his card from a gentleman who had a watch battery replaced there, so I know he’s still in business.
Description of Work: I have some antique clocks, and until about 10 years ago, I used to get them repaired at Center City Clock and Watch Service. I intend going back there again, because they are still in business, and I wasn’t happy with the last place I used.
