Marcy, the receptionist, was very pleasant. I enjoyed talking with her. They sent an estimate through the mail, and the price was reasonable. They were pleasant and prompt.

The Castelli roofing company did a great job! The workers assessed the old roof; shortly afterward, I spoke with Marcy about a detailed estimate of the work that needed to be done. A written estimate was then sent via email. A roof replacement was scheduled to begin within a few weeks and was completed with no problems. I would definitely hire Castelli again! The company was professional and dependable!

Even though my roof ended up costing almost twice what the original estimate was, I know Castelli gave me a fair deal and did quality work. The thing about my roof was, all the plywood had rotted out, to the point where even a couple of beams needed to be replaced. I had no idea the roof was in such bad shape (I just bought the house and the inspector said the roof needed replacement, but he did not indicate the truly emergent situation), and the roofers didn't either. I guess it's one of those things you can't know until you "open the hood." Once they did, it was apparent that there were more than just a few mushy spots. I saw the rotten plywood in the dumpster, it was legit rotten and there was a lot of it. Marcy called me to let me know about the extent of the damage when the workers discovered it, and while I wasn't overjoyed to spend so much more than I had budgeted, crap happens and I'm glad Castelli took care of it for me before there was water pouring into my living room or worse. Marcy, Alex, Mike and the rest of the crew were very easy to work with. They were responsive, courteous, punctual, and hardworking. They did a ton of work in a short period of time (even working on a holiday), and were always polite. I'm a little overprotective of my young child and mother-in-law, but I felt comfortable leaving them in the home during the day while the men worked on the roof. And Marcy kept me well-informed from the first contact all the way through to the end of the job. Actually even past the end. Some strong winds pulled my chimney cap loose a couple days after the roof was completed. I assumed this was something related to the work they did up there, so I called and Marcy sent someone to check it out that same day. He said the cap was kaput but affixed it to the chimney as a courtesy. Castelli didn't have to do that, but they did, without hesitation. That says something about their integrity, and their superior customer service. I'd recommend them to a friend, definitely.

Thank you [Member Name Removed] for those kind words. Your trust and feedback is worth more to me than anything else. You are correct in that you don't know what you'll find until the roof is completely ripped up and in your case, that is what happened. But, you are good for a lifetime now! The roof and shingles should last that long!

Response from Castelli Roofing & General Construction Inc
I am so very sad at this rating and the customer who posted it. First and foremost; this person, [Member Name Removed] (we call him Junior) has been somewhat of a friend to Robert and I for almost 10 years. I must provide some background information so that my Angie's List Customers understand the circumstances and confusion as to why he rated me an "F". Mr. [Member Name Removed] had a 3rd story addition built on his property and the workmanship and quality of work completed was under par and caused him great stress with the amount of re-work that was required after that. We came into the picture back around 2008 to assist after Mr. [Member Name Removed] did some personal HVAC work for us at our home. With the addition built, the roofing, skylight, sliding doors, etc. all became significant problems for Mr. [Member Name Removed]. We have made countless efforts to help correct these problems (most of which were "Free of Charge" since we "friends". Mr. [Member Name Removed] had been to our home with his family and there were many times Robert understood the frustration with the poor work that was done on the addition. We did new skylight installation in 2008 to correct the original contractors' work; We did some roofing service work to the 3rd floor addition in December 2008 at a minimal charge; We did emergency repair work for him in 2009 due to the roof material blowing up from roof from the original install (we did this emergency repair at no charge - which normally costs $500.00) In 2009 we did new roofing work to help correct the 3rd floor. We have not heard from him again regarding the new roof installed in February 2009 and would assume it corrected his problem. We even provided Mr. [Member Name Removed] a letter describing the work done to assist him with a neighboring roof issue. In 2013 Mr. [Member Name Removed] said he had a problem with the 2nd floor roof - which we went out and repaired it at NO CHARGE. In June 2013 Mr. [Member Name Removed] called with a problem around his TWO (2) Air Conditioning Units on the roof. We went out again in June 2013 and serviced the rear section at the 2 AC Units at NO CHARGE again. On 9/23/13 Mr. [Member Name Removed] called to say his 3rd floor roof was leaking -- This roof is under our warranty; so Robert went and found the roof had some ponding and the slag stop/edge capping had to be replaced. So, on 10/13/2013 and to remain in good standing and good faith for this customer/friend, Robert installed 3 full sheets of new rubber at the rear to assist with ponding and install new edge capping/slag stop at NO CHARGE. Warrant work is done at no charge to make any repairs that may be needed or as a result of something we did incorrectly. This was not as a result of our work but 3rd floor settling which created ponding. We still do this additional work (which equates to time, material and labor) - done at NO CHARGE. This year - November 10, 2015 Mr. [Member Name Removed] called to advise his sliding glass doors to his deck were leaking. Robert advised him to remove the deck and install new doors which were done incorrectly from the beginning contractors. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did have the new doors installed and that problem was resolved. When Mr. [Member Name Removed] called me again, he said there was a new issue where flashing was pulled up on the 3rd floor roof that was under warranty. Mr. [Member Name Removed] called me in late November with this problem. I advised him Robert would be out to fix for him. That same week, it rained for two days therefore, we were unable to make the repair since roofing materials do not work effectively in the rain or if wet. The very following Monday, 11/25/2015, Robert spoke to Mr. [Member Name Removed]. Robert personally went to resolve the problem on Wednesday and installed new flashing (which was not an issue with original roof) and did this again..at no charge. I do not understand why Junior (Mr. [Member Name Removed]) would rate us an "F" when Robert has gone over and above to help him with the poor work that was completed by his original contractors. We have made many attempts to resolve his problems and have NOT CHARGED HIM. I bet most customers are saying right now, "I wish I wasn't charged every time a contractor walks onto my property!" Unfortunately, I believe it is the frustration that this person feels from the years of problems that resulted from the original 3rd floor addition work and the poor quality and workmanship that was done with that addition. I have asked Mr. [Member Name Removed] to help me understand his poor rating of our company but he never replied to myself or Robert. We wish him only the best in his future endeavors. We have made countless efforts to help him and without charging him on most occasions even though most of the calls made to us were NOT as a result of any work that we completed. I hope my Angie's List Customers have read this and understand our position of confusion to the "F" rating. Do not judge Castelli Roofing by the 1 or 2 people who I don't think anyone would ever be able to please.

I needed my cornice repaired. I received an estimate from a roofer and a contractor, prior to meeting with Robert Castelli and two of his employees, that I knew was much too high. I was pleasantly surprised when Robert's estimate was much lower than the two other estimates I had received. They performed the work the next day. Great results. Great/fair price! Professionals. He even took the time to have his employee check my roof for any possible damage and made preventative spot repairs free of charge. I recommend this company.

I had a leak in the house I recently purchased despite the roof being relatively new. The first contractor wanted to reseal & put new flashing on for a price higher than my brother recently paid for an entirely new roof. That's when I got on Angie's list, called Castelli and was very pleased from the beginning. They were much better at communication, telling me when a roofer would look at the roof and when the repair work would be done. I got an estimate soon after the inspection (the last contractor had me wait days after the inspection). Castelli agreed with my original contractor on what needed to be done, but at a 1/3 of the price. Yet, (based on their reputation) I expect they did a good job. Time will tell, but I would definitely call again because of how prompt they are about getting back to you.

Punctual, thorough and price was on target. Robert showed me the before and after photos on his phone and it looked like it made a big difference. Even better, he said the roof was in pretty good shape and with the new aluminum coating should handle mother nature for the foreseeable future. Only small thing, I did ask a couple of times for the photos and never received them, but no big deal. Otherwise great service and definitely recommended.

This is a very trustworthy and honest company. Our roofer is 7 yr old roofer. It starts to leak a week ago. We contacted three A rated roofer from Angies list in Philadelphia area. Two others are recommending to replace the whole roof, claiming it was not done correctly from the very beginning. One guy told me, "did you see the small bump in the roof, that means some water get there and the wood underneath needs to be replace as well". I was so upset for the whole night and about to hire a lawyer to sue my builder. Only Castelli Roofing told me the roof is in good condition, just a regular maintenance, it took them 20 minutes to finish. they told me the bump is because of the joint with the neighbor. I strongly recommend you to contact Castelli Roofing if other roofer told you your roof needs to be completely replaced.

June: I bought the inspection package and then sold me on some extras, a new cap and caulking, and a new flat roof where a deck had once been. Leading up to the day of work (May 8) , It seemed to go fine but at the end of the job when I came home, the new flat roof had major wrinkles, and has major puddling. I cannot put a deck back on which is what we specified. Even if the roof had no pitch, it was a mess of a job. I contacted the owner and sent photos and heard nothing. My husband texted the foreman and he finally came to look, agreed it was pending, offered to make the wrinkles right and then left saying they would put us on the schedule. That was weeks ago and I have not heard a thing. The roof has to be redone and I am out nearly 1200, The other spot the supposedly caulked is leaking again. This was a disaster. July 10, 2015: Follow up: Marcy from Castelli contacted me after I contacted them and posted my Poor Angieslist rating and said they would stand by their warranty and she had thought the problems had been fixed which was why she did not contact me a month before when I had emailed with photos. She then sent the owner to look at the job. He reviewed the work and offered to fix it, to my satisfaction. I declined and asked for a refund saying I wished to use another contractor. I appreciate that once they recognized the problem, they followed up and did try to make things right. As Marcy states in her reply to my rating (And, I note, had been that detailed about all the issues they "saw" up front, in the beginning, then we all probably would have had a better ending) ...Robert (the owner) agreed to grant the refund and at the end of the day, I do feel they did the best they could under the circumstances to ensure customer satisfaction and make things right. I just wish they had taken time up front to look at the roof and drain box and make the correct recommendations so we didn't have this disconnect and problems we had..Money was not the issue for me, the problem, the sloppy workmanship and the response time was. I appreciate the refund and I am more than happy to pay for someone else to do the job.

Response from Castelli Roofing & General Construction Inc
[Member Name Removed] To address each of your issues; let me state the following as my response. Of course, it is always our objective to keep our customers 100% satisfied. The first thing was a failure or miscommunication between myself and Jimmy. I thought Jimmy had taken care of your issues and that was why I did not respond to your earlier message. I am sure you've read my Angie's List Reviews and found that we are extremely accommodating and work with each customer individually. We absolutely pride ourselves on our positive ratings. I am sure that was why you selected us to begin with. This is not how I operate, not to respond to you. There are no wrinkles to the new rubber roof. The roof is tight and wrapped up onto the wall over an old existing raglet which is what looks like a wrinkle, but in fact is simply rubber over the raglet that is a little protruding from the wall of the roof. Robert met with you last week. You and he discussed various things. 1) It is Robert's professional opinion and his advise to you -- that the leak you are experiencing, down the rear wall, is due to an overload at the 3" drain box. The main roof drains directly into the lower rear roof drain box. The upper roof downspout drains directly into the lower 3" drain box, therefore, overloading the box and causing the leak down the wall. This is incorrectly installed and was in place prior to my coming out to do any work there. 2) Rear Lower Roof - Upon our original estimate; there was a deck on the roof. We recommended removing the deck, and you, as the homeowner, removed the deck, exposing the existing roof membrane. The existing roof was in poor condition and we installed a new white granulated roof membrane. We installed the new roof over the existing membrane as described in the estimate. The roof is ponding water. That has always been. Since you had a deck, you never noticed the ponding. "We did not create the ponding. The ponding has always been there due to poor rehab construction. It is obvious the roof ponding is a result of the poor construction during the rehab of this building. Castelli Roofing is being blamed for work that we never had a part of. We tired to provide a solution and customer declined. 3) We did offer to install a new Tapered Insulation System to eliminate the ponding and installing a NEW Roof to correct his problem AT NO CHARGE TO YOU. We also recommended upgrading your drainage system and install that system properly to eliminate water down the rear wall (at cost). I am sorry you declined this offer. It is always our intention to have a satisfied customer and even when faced with added difficulty; we try our best to provide a solution. The amount for the small rear lower roof was $675.00 - to which you will receive a refund. Good Luck with your future endeavor. Subsequent to this response to the customer, Karin assured me that after she receives the refund; she will change her rating and review on Angie's List. She is proceeding via another avenue and another contractor. Let me assure you; a new contractor is not going to offer to correct this problem free of charge. Marcy - Castelli Roofing Inc.

It went really well. They arrived as scheduled. No issues at all and all work completed within less than 3 hours. This was not just a repair but a re-design correcting the original building roofing error resulting in pooling and leaking. Jimmy is a charm and the two laborers were 2 nice guys who were focused on the work at hand. Marcy, the business administrator took our initial call and subsequent calls and she KNOWS roofing better than your average person. She also did some necessary hand-holding as we we needed re-assurance that the work would go just fine........and it did; she was right.
Description of Work: Jimmy designed a plan to divert water where it was pooling on our 5 year old flat roof. He fixed all seams and applied a special roofing top-coat. Jimmy did the assessment of why the roof was leaking; did the estimate and came back with 2 workers to complete the repair 10 days later as scheduled.

I initially called Castelli to fix a detached gutter in the front of the 3 story rowhouse. They responded the next day, called me at work, and offered to reconnect the gutter on the spot for $45. Quick, easy, and I liked the price, so I said yes. I also asked the guy how the roof looked, although I was pretty sure I knew the answer as it is about 15 years old. He said that he could offer to patch it for a few hundred dollars, but that it would be a waste as the roof really needed to be replaced. I asked for an estimate to be sent, and Marcy sent one within 48 hours. The $2,160 estimate to replace the 4 square main roof with new rubber bitumen, flashings around the stacks, skylights, and chimney, recoat two small 1.5 square roofs, replace the front gutter and downspout, and address some roof drainage issues on a small flat section sounded very fair to me. Castelli was also able to be flexible with the installation date as I had a small window during which the work could be done. On the install date, the Castelli team was on time, worked quickly and efficiently, was very friendly and courteous, and had the whole thing done in under 4 hours. They also guarantee their new roof for 15 years (provided service is done on a schedule) and the warranty is transferable should I sell. Overall I would strongly recommend Castelli for any roofing or gutter needs.
Description of Work: Replaced the main roof on our Center City rowhouse, serviced 2 smaller roofs, and replaced the gutter and downspout in front of the house.

They are awesome. They are extremely thorough. But, they are pricey. They sometimes have a long backlog.
Description of Work: They redid our roof deck and did some water proofing at the back of our house.

It went well. I wanted them to check my roof and make sure that there were no leaks. There were no leaks and that was all they did for me. There were no additional charges. I contacted them right away but they weren’t able to get to me until a month later. They never contacted me by phone and they did everything by email. I would have liked a phone call.

Response from Castelli Roofing & General Construction Inc
We take customer satisfaction very seriously at Castelli Roofing. While I did not call you directly, all your communications to me were via Angie's List Message Service. When a customer uses Angie's List Message Service, I get the impression that is the method of communication they prefer. Even as we both sent messages back and forth to each other, you never asked me to call you to discuss further. Upon our inspection (and inspections must be done when the weather permits); we advised no work was needed at this time and provided the Roof Certification you requested and paid for. The winter months are tricky for roofing since our business is truly based on weather. Based on OSHA requirements, we can only do proper roof work and inspections, etc. when it is not wet or windy or snow or rain in order to keep my team safe and my customers' home safe. It did take us longer than usual to complete the task, however, it has been an extremely bad winter. I am glad we were able to provide the services you needed and wish you luck with any future endeavors.
