Description of Work: Barry and his team painted our family room, up the back stairs, the back hall, kitchen, and dining room. They did a wonderful job! There was a problem with the paint color I chose for the family room (my fault). They stopped painting (thank goodness they weren't too far into it), helped me chose other options, then Barry went back to paint store to purchase the new color. They Also assisted me in choosing color for dining room. We had many nail pops in kitchen ceiling....you'd never know it now! Barry, his team (Tatania and Sedikal) not only did a great job for us, they were a pleasure to have in our home for the 5 days they spent here. Of course we will have Barry back again. In fact, I'm thinking of adopting them....all three!

Picking a color based on a little swatch of paper from the store is very hard to do. These were lovely people and we were happy to help them with the color choices. We also worked very hard while they were home most of the day. We got to know each other well over the week and made their house look fantastic, too.

Wow! We did the work 4 years ago and she still remembered me. A good review is a good review no matter how late it is. Thank you. I can't respond about the B for Responsiveness. As you can see in my reviews below, there are no issues with that these days.

Description of Work: Answered my call immediately, and gave a very honest response to my request for faux crown molding installation. I appreciate that! Barry was unable to help me with this request but I will call him again for any further appropriate work needed. It is not always easy to find honest and professional contractors. Thanks again Barry

The overall experience was excellent. From our initial phone conversation through the last day of the project, Barry was responsive and always professional. He also came up with an aesthetically pleasing as well as cost-effective solution to a problem we were having with a drafty attic door that we wanted fixed. He emailed us a detailed estimate of the work to be completed with the associated fees. He also included fees for future projects that we were considering having done. He listened to our requests and concerns and completed projects based on these specifications. He also took extra care to respect our home by cleaning up at the end of the day. We highly recommend Barry for home improvement projects and will definitely be using him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Install new " drywall in areas behind mirrors in 1st and 2nd floor bathrooms. Apply joint compound and sanded. Closet/Attic remove trim currently in place, install new drywall on top of wood above closet ceiling, install insulated plywood hatch on a hinge. Finish all drywall and have it "paint-ready." Install thin plywood for access panel in 3rd floor bathroom. Prime for painting. Install latches similar to what is currently there.

The service was top notch, quality of work very good, workers were punctual everyday that they arrived on the job. The work itself didn't take as long as anticipated, so that was another plus. I would certainly recommend them to anyone and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future.

The work was completed on schedule and for a competitive price. We had a tight schedule - Barry proved to be accommodating and worked with us on this, so there was as little disruption in our house as possible. Barry was very responsive to a follow-up call regarding some small paint splatters and cleaned everything up wonderfully. As an added bonus, Barry picked up the paint for us for no additional charge (we paid for the paint, but he didn't charge us for the pickup) and was even able to get us a discount! We are very happy with the services Barry provided and would definitely use him again when we get around to having the remainder of our home painted.
Description of Work: Barry and his crew were responsible for painting the walls, ceilings, trim, window frames and doors of the first floor of our home.

Having stripped paint by myself in other rooms in my house, I can tell you that their attention to detail was top notch. The key here is they took the time to get it done right. Never rushed it and just stayed the course. It was absolutely tough in the beginning and I felt for them as they used the Peel Away paint remover almost burning themselves in the process. But they were always careful to cover the floors and any and all areas other than the molding and trim. One of the amazing things that Barry and his crew did is to create a distinct line to differentiate our ceiling from our walls. Because of the character of these houses, the walls in our 1st floor do not have 90 degree corners, all the corners are rounded out. With a straight edge and good eyes they created a beautiful line all around the ceiling to differentiate the side walls from the ceiling. Very hard stuff to do and they did it and did it well. I almost forgot to mention about the amazing paint job they did as well. Really crisp clean lines and no spotting in the color of the walls. I've learned to paint from art school and I can tell you he had some art school people on his crew because the color was bold, no splotching, or drips. One of the best painters in our neighborhood in my opinion. I'm definitely going to have Barry Bush and his crew back hopefully after we save up from what we already spent on this job. He'll be the first person I call for out next painting job. Overall, I would highly recommend Barry Bush and his crew for restoration projects here in Philadelphia. They really excelled beyond my expectations. The paint stripping above all was the real highlight and to see that level of detail after the stain was applied was really worth the cost.
Description of Work: I hired Barry Bush for a very large paint stripping and painting job that encompassed the first floor and hallway of our Victorian Twin here in West Philly. He and his crew did a phenomenal job. It was a tremendously difficult job to begin with because it required paint stripping years of paint on beautiful molding and trim. In one room the paint was completely removed and restored to its original form. His crew was absolutely meticulous in stripping the paint and in the process restored the original Chestnut to its full glory. They restored and stained the entire baseboard and molding of our front room parlor. I couldn't believe my eyes. They did a fantastic job.

Our outdoor/basement steps were rotted and the hatch door leaked until they finally collapsed, forcing us to deal with a job we'd been delaying because it wasn't obvious how to rebuild this. Barry (and his associate Dan) figured out how to attach new steps to the masonry sides and how to build a hatch door that would be tightly sealed against water. When they started the job they found that the masonry was crumbling, so they rebuilt sections of it, carefully sloping it so that water would run away from the hatch. They attached the steps firmly to the sides, built a plywood hatch door, and built new steps from the deck. They sealed the whole thing with foam and waterproofed the gaps. This wasn't the kind of job that needed to be pretty (the whole thing is hidden under the deck) but it needed to be tight and strong, and they did a great job, and I am certain, from my neighbors' experience, that they can do "pretty" jobs as well.
Description of Work: Barry replaced old stairs leading to our basement, designed and built a new hinged hatch door, and built new steps from a deck. This all involved some complications to keep the basement dry and well-sealed, and the steps well attached to the masonry.

We're extremely happy with our new, larger back deck. Barry's estimate was within about $10 off the final price, based on an estimate of two days of labor for two workers if they didn't run into anything unexpected (three days max if they ran into something unexpected), plus actual cost of materials (wood and paint). We had a small L-shaped back deck with railings that were rotting, and we wanted to replace the railings and enlarge the whole deck by squaring it off. Barry had two people as part of his team who were experienced in deck work who did a great job. Barry supervised and also did some of the finish painting. If you look at our new deck you'd never know that part of it is old and part new. They made one suggestion that we really loved. This resulted in their changing the style of the railing just slightly (rotating the 2x4s that top the railings 90 degrees) so that we can now place our coffee cups or wine glasses on the top of the new railings (the old ones were too narrow). They even managed to match the paint color perfectly. Now we use our deck so much more that we wish we'd done this sooner! We will definitely use Barry again for other house projects in the future.
Description of Work: Expanded small back deck, replaced rotted railings, power washed, and repainted deck and railings.

Mr. Bush arrived on time, with extra help to get the job done in a short amount of time, which was done as a special favor for myself as I was traveling between cities at the time. Mr. Bush was extremely accommodating, asked me exactly what I wanted and delivered promptly and exceedingly well. I e-mailed Barry and he got back to me right away. He came to my house and provided me an estimate a few days later. I told him I would like the work done within the next month and he e-mailed me back a few weeks later to confirm a date. He performed the work in two days and I had no complaints. The ceiling looks great and so do the lights.

They gave us a very reasonable estimate to install new drywall in our spare bedroom, and to paint it if we wanted. We decided to paint it on our own, but had them go ahead with the drywall work. They were able to work our project into their work schedule very quickly, which worked out very well for us. They had the drywall up and taped in one day, came back another day to sand down the first layer and add a finishing layer of spackling, then finished on a third day with final sanding. They even prime-coated the areas where they spackled. They kept the work area very neat and tidy between work visits. We were very happy with the finished work and the manner in which they were able to keep the mess from a drywalling project under control and out of the rest of our house. They didn't leave a mess behind when they were finished.
Description of Work: Installed drywall on the ceiling, including taping, spackling, filling holes, and finishing off corners; ready for primer and painting.

Barry's work, service and professionalism was of a very high standard. He was able to visit our home within two days of us contacting him (we received a flyer and also read other reviews on line) and made sure he was clear on what we wanted. Originally we wanted to buy a new front door and have Barry install it. When he heard our plans, he, very politely, questioned why we wanted a new door and we actually decided to keep the original door after all. Barry saved us around $1000 and ended up with a much harder job for himself, which he joked about a few days later. He did a fabulous job on the door and we are thrilled we stuck with the original. During the job, Barry had another workman come in to stain the deck. This ensured that the job was completed within the week he promised. The painting was completed in two days and done to a high standard. We were also able to save money on paint thanks to the discount Barry receives.
Description of Work: Our home's front door is original to the house so had 90 years worth of paint, putty, and rust that needed to be removed. Barry stripped the entire door, replaced glass panes, replaced framing and stripped all the hardware. Barry also painted our living room and bedroom. Also, he washed and stripped our deck.

Barry did a great job! He was so considerate that the concierge in my building asked for his name to recommend to other people. Everything was clean and tidy with no sloppy drip marks! When I got home, there was no paint smell, nor any other indication that he was in my condo other than my perfectly painted walls! I was definitely use him again.

Everything went very well. Barry was referred to me by a friend, whom he had done some painting and other work for. Barry was punctual, responsive polite, friendly, and professional from setting up the consultation, through completion of the job. I picked up the paint in advance (with brand recommendations from Barry) and Barry brought everything else he needed. He estimated 2-3 days for the entire job, and it took him less than 2, but not the the detriment of the quality of work. The paint job looked great. He taped in the dining room around some tricky molding, and it came out very clean. He did not tape the bedroom or bathroom (but likely would have if I had asked, understanding the additional time it would take). There were only a couple edges that weren't perfect, but which go relatively unnoticed. He cleaned up after himself when he left and the place looks absolutely great. I've already lined Barry up to do more work at my house, and have recommended him to friends.

Barry rescued us from a faux finish gone horribly wrong. As reasonably experienced do-it-yourselfers, we attempted to repaint our newly remodeled bathroom using some crazy Valspar Granite paint. Barry was able to save this project by experimenting a bit with the technique. His attitude and attention to detail were exactly what we needed.
Description of Work: Barry repainted our newly remodeled bathroom in order to correct a poorly applied Faux finish. His work included Drywall taping and prep, priming and final finishing.
